I really wish we could get a clear picture of the size of board with heat sink attached and a template for the mounting holes in the board...Maybe I missed it?...but need to know depth with sinks on....if anyone knows yet?

Looks like this might do it. For 10 64's Grin

http://www.microcenter.com/product/399359/Tough_Power_1500_Watt_ATX_12V_Power_Supply

Good old Avalon. I knew they would screw up.
Nice PSU ya that ought to do it...lol
3663  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 26, 2013, 09:30:34 PM
I don't really need a 1250 PSU for a K64, right? I was thinking a 250 would work fine, as the boards are the only thing I need to power with my planned setup.
Im starting with a 550 watt dual rail 38 amps for,  2 k16, 2 k64's = 320 watts pulled....so.... even if over clocked down the rd,,,still plenty of room....ya even an old 250 will be enough for a singe k64. Some in here are going out and buying godly PSU's for a few boards.... i know a quality one is best though, so it doesn't blow and take out your boards with it...always that chance with any however....
3664  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 25, 2013, 01:49:45 AM
how much do you think a single  K-16  4.5go in the 600 order numbers range would sell for when it arrive ?

Right now pre-ordered K16s are going for $850-$1000. When you have the board in hand, it will most likely sell for $2500-$4000.

For 4k i would be more than happy to sell it instead of mining with it lolll
I dont think the prices will be that high anymore, remember a million+ chips are going out just from avalon, and so many other ASIC's will be going out, if you get yours soon I think you could sell it for 1k-1500, but in a matter of 2 months price could plummet because of how many will be out there, along with difficulty that will likely skyrocket, a lot of people will be trying to sell at some point.

Very true. In a couple of months the market will most likely be saturated. It's like the people who are trying to sell the 333 MH/s block erupter USBs. At first people were charging $500-$800 for them. Now they are only getting $150 at most. Even that is very overpriced.
In the end, it will all depend on what a BTC is worth,,,if it goes to 150 or higher ,,,,again? then all boards,,,even the little block eruptors will still be selling for a premium,,,,if it goes back to or over 200 a BTC look out! lol Smiley which some ex'spurts say it will.....

If I did mine with it myself instead of hosting, a few things come to mind.

What do you guys plan on using for a case? I have 1 64 chip board. I might just build something.

What do you plan on using for cooling?

I might use a small house fan.

9 inch should do it.

I have an old netbook (n280, 2 gigs of ram, ocz ssd)

Is a netbook appropriate for the job? I'd let the screen sleep, but never the netbook itself.

It's only wireless G, though I do have a wireless N network, with a 50 megabit down, 10 megabit up connection.

I wonder if I could hide it at work somewhere Tongue
I'm sure doing all the above will work fine,,,maybe not hiding it at work tho...lol
3666  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 23, 2013, 01:54:23 PM

sorry, this is a little late and I'm sure you've already made your choice, but the comment about "I don't care about power $ or noise" prompted me to drop my 2 cents in here...

I just recently bought one of these seasonic 1000W platinum PSU's and I absolutely love it so far (will have to wait 7 years to see if it out-lives its warranty, lol)

For me, $ was also not an issue, and this is not a cheap PSU, so I'm sure there might be a better value for the dollar. But when considering the cost and availability of a power supply vs the kind of hardware we are powering, it does not make sense to me to skimp on a PSU... Also, heat and efficiency (they kind of go hand-in-hand) are a big deal for me, and this PSU is simply excellent in that regard.

I cannot recommend any other PSU as highly as this one. If anyone has an opinion of a better 1000W (or higher) PSU, please bring it to my attention. Thanks.

On this page  I saw that this PSU has no 6-pin PCI-E connectors which are needed to power K16. Or did I miss if it's somehow possible to make a 6-pin out of 8-pin?
Buy a splitter 8> 2 x 6 pin, and BKK says best to use 24 guage wire if possible...

this is nice Smiley so what is chip count in each order? Th 1 is 10k right? then 2 = 20k and 3 = 20k? but what or where is the 20k chips they bought from someone locally" that they paid a premium for coming from,,,in otherwords,,whos batch did they buy and when was it ordered? lol..still a mystery?....again they said they had enough coming in to cover ALL pre orders in time,,,so  Shocked

I can refer you to the photos of the invoices that were posted last week for the counts of the orders.

Sorry still don't know about any mystery locally purchased chips.

Never heard such a thing sorry

Hi Joe. I've got some information for you about the 20k chip local buy. Amir told me about the additional 20k local purchase during my first visit and we talked about it for a moment during my 2nd visit. What I was told is that they bought 20k chips from an individual in the Bay Area and it's an order placed in early May. Amir said that they paid a premium for the extra chips to make sure that everyone's order would be in "Batch 1". He told me that everything was on schedule for them receive those chips at the same time as their own May orders. He also noted that they felt most of the April/May Avalon bulk orders would be shipped at the same time. I don't have any additional information beyond that.  Smiley
Thanks KL for clearifying that for us,,,,I knew that was what was put out there to us...maybe via you,, so for now I am banking on what you were told Smiley by the way,  If i didnt thank you for your 2nd trip..Thank you!

wow thats sweet,,,,,Im sure you will sleep good at nite with that powering the your  klondikes! Im still looking at the options?...go cheap and risk frying my boards...lol, or drop a few extra bucks,,,and sleep better,,, Smiley

Hi Joe,

Interesting.  How accurate would you label your chip delivery estimates?

With an August 12th delivery, and stated 2 week delivery turnaround, it would appear we would miss our original deadline of August 15th by about 2 weeks.  Wonder if we'll hear an update regarding revised delivery estimates soon.

-JC

My estimates are ONLY based on two orders placed and two orders received that both took an average of 93.5 days to ship/arrive.

I could be 100% wrong on every order after that.

I will keep refining as others get theirs.

Do NOT cancel orders based on my estimates  Grin

Whats all this batch 1 stuff? TH said they had enough chips coming in to fill all pre orders within the estimated ship time of mid august....regardless of que number....

Whoa what's all this batch stuff??

Seriously?  Have you been reading this thread? Seen the list of orders and the breakdown of devices to chip orders??

Realize that all the chips were not ordered on the same day? So they won't show up the same day?!?

If you were one of the first orders your chips will likely be in on August 12th (estimated)
If you were some of the last orders chips won't be in until around Sept 22nd (estimated)

(see estimates here:)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=260557.0

So basically there are three chip orders which will have subsequent device batches.
So if you were a late order you will likely get your device over a month later.

By the way, these are ALL my opinions and they do not reflect what reality TH wishes to instill and the chips may all arrive earlier and I may be talking out my ass.

lol I like that disclaimer at the end there Joe! ya lets hope your wrong,,,but???
3671  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 22, 2013, 11:45:00 PM
According to posts in this thread, the Chips were purchased in separate orders ( batches).  You can assume that they won't all arrive in the same day.   So some orders will not be able to be filled from the first batch ad have to be filled from the subsequent ones. Tongue  I wouldn't worry about it too much until the expected ship date passes.
Maybe I dreamnt it,,,lol, but somewhere I read that TH had purchased an additional 20k chips locally (CA) and had paid a premium for them as a means to be able to ship all pre orders as promised...help me out here I know i read that  Huh

With 4 x 64's you would be pulling at the most if clocked up, maybe 650 watts with room....I'm thinking going with a modular myself...with 2x64's 2x16's for now Smiley If I were you I would go with newegg one with more power, I wonder if those have the 24 gauge wire as described by BKK ... something to consider
3674  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 19, 2013, 03:17:44 AM
This is rather interesting. Makes ya wonder just how much the difficulty really will rise and how soon/fast? hmmm  Undecided

wow.......just wish I knew Chinese....lol cool link!

So folks who ordered chips on April 15 got them today:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=258231.0

So if Terrahash ordered theirs on May 10, does it not stand to reason they will be delivered around August 13?

Thoughts?
Interesting, so who's chips are shown in that pic? as far as TH orders, it would be hard to say if their order would follow suit time wise"  but does make ya wonder...lol
3677  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 18, 2013, 12:41:44 PM
BKK Thank you for giving us a better understanding on the molex/pci e connectors, and the significance of the gauge wire to use...very helpful!  Maybe a little guidance on the daisy chain woes if any, would be useful...even though it seems pretty straight forward. and chaining k64 and k16 together?  Smiley
3678  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 18, 2013, 03:58:49 AM
Another maybe silly question here... when using the Ic2 cables to daisy chain the k16 boards, and with that, only one usb cable with the first board in chain, will only one miner be needed to control all the boards that are daisy chained?? (I'm thinking that's correct) and if so, how would one know if a board should fail in the that daisy chain, and would it stop the boards from working beyond that failed board...ok lots here to ask or discuss

And" can k16 and k64's be daisy chained together in the same fashion?  Cheesy

Thx
3679  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 18, 2013, 03:10:59 AM
Any word on the ETA of the Avalon chips? to TH or anyone else waiting on them? I know someone had posted pics of a butt load of cases/chips shipping or arriving somewhere...not sure if they were the same chips though...ok,,,,just wondering  Undecided
3680  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 16, 2013, 09:29:05 PM
Ok, thanks all.

I think the conclusion here is that each 6+2 or 8 pin PCI-E connector (150W) coming from the power supply can easily be split into 2x 6 PIN PCIE connectors, which means that each 6+2 PCI-E connector can power 2 K16 boards. Each K16 board only uses ~32W before overclocking, so there should also be some headroom left to overclock.
With that said though, there will be 1 PCI-E, 6 pin connector on the  k-16 board. We can plug a 6 pin in to it ( just like a graphics card )....but it will only draw 32 watts of the 75 available watts supplied via the 6 pin.... in other words it won't shove more 32 watts into the board or will pull as many as needed if OC'd etc...but then not much more than the 32  maybe 40 tops??? good topic in here...

PS: I was clarifying for myself as much as anyone else! lol.... There has been a lot of questions to come up lately with i2c pins, pci-e ,,what comes with the boards etc....so this is all good... Now on to the k 64 power questions,,,lol
