Why would they do that? They just got their ASICs.

Those ahead of the curve have made a killing, those investing right now will probably lose a lot of money and then we're back to cutthroat margins, which means the price for ASICs will go down and difficulty won't matter that much when you can afford the equipment again. The pain is now.

The point is that the Avlon chips haven't arrived, so they haven't just got their ASICs. Do you realistically see any of the people mining before late September who are waiting on their chips?  By that time, the ROI will be negative, and as I mentioned before not long until the mining is no longer covering electricity costs. If you keep mining and you are not covering electricity costs, that's kind of silly.
I have said all along in 6 months only the big time heavy hitter$ will be left standing in this game, everyone else will go broke trying to keep up Smiley

EDIT: Only saving grace will be BTC going to 200 and up.... which it could and is why Im staying in the game a little longer....

Now on the otherhand, if TH put out a reassurance email, of guaranteeing a full refund should we never receive our product, then i might would be inclined to wait and see" on the chips,,, but we have nothing to go on at this point?

Is the revised board hashing yet?
BKK, I know this is the last thought any of us want to even think about right now, but what would it take to adapt a new gen2 chip to the exisitng board? Has that been given any thought? please forgive me for even asking in these trying times...sometimes in life when we are given lemons, we should try to make lemonade Smiley assuming some resolution were to come our way, short of getting refunds from avalon, a chip credit/deal if in fact the ordered chips never happen of course. Thx, your the best!
I didn't do any board work this weekend. It was a long weekend here (Queens birthday), so was noisy with celebrations. I did prepare orders to ship and have about a dozen to go out today when I get in to the post office. It was closed yesterday.

I don't have enough info on Gen 2 chips. Supposedly they'll be somewhat compatible but I don't know what that means yet and which pins might change if any. My guess is that they could possibly be swapped in with only software changes, but who knows.

I'm a bit bummed about how things have gone, and not as focussed on getting all my boards made as I should be. I either need a holiday or some good news on chip shipments. I'm quite tired but will get back to it soon.
I think i can help .
Yesterday I got 30 chips from nowhere...
Sent from hong kong. No update on Avalon order page. Smiley
Any update on test of fully populated K16.?
We are busy here with our design and did not have the chance to populate and test the last final K16 version
Wow that is ironic? so tell us, when was your chip order date? when was the payment made, and when was that sample shipped? that may shed a little light on the mystery. I know Terrahash had posted a video of a fully populated k16 hashing.

Im sure you could use both! a holiday and some good news Smiley but its good to hear from you, Im sure that goes for everyone in here. But thanks for shedding a thought on the gen2, who knows, that could be all thats on the horizon (chip wise) possibly where the klondike design board and all the work in it, can still be utilized for some time to come.  ok, hang in there BKK, take this little break in the action and take a break Smiley
3489  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: NY regulator issue subpoenas to firms tied to Bitcoin: WSJ on: August 13, 2013, 02:36:25 AM
This could be a very good thing.  If the end result is acceptance by NY as being a legit cash exchange and way to do business, it will broaden Bitcoin's appeal because it will have a defacto "Stamp of Approval" for legal considerations.  That can go a LONG way towards making it more accepted.  Folks on the fence, knowing it's a safe bet legally may finally bite.  You could see Paypal finally latch onto it and boom... up goes the Bitcoin value.

That said, it could also be a total embarrassment if some unprofessional types show up and wear swastika arm bands and talk sh*t about the Government while declaring anarchy and throwing pies at people.  Ultimately it can go either way, but I tend to hope for the good outcome.
Yes it could be, If BTC can clear the hoops with this challange, I agree its the beggining of perhaps a new road for BTC, especially with folks like paypal who have been watching bitcoin, and are giving thought to how they could bring it in as an added service. Watch BTC value shoot up then Smiley lets hope for the best. They do have some first rate class actors being subpoenaed for the most part. Especially with coinbase and alike. Should be interesting.

Here we go! don't see bitsyncom mentioned.... Bloomberg: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-08-12/new-york-subpoenas-bitcoin-firms-in-probe-over-criminal-risk

In addition to BitInstant, Dwolla and Coinsetter, the regulator sent subpoenas to the following service providers: BitPay, Coinabul, Coinbase Inc., CoinLab, eCoin Cashier, Payward, Inc., TrustCash Holdings Inc. and ZipZap, the person said.

Butterfly Labs, a technology company, also received a subpoena, according to the person familiar with the matter.

Christina Hirsch, a spokeswoman for Winklevoss, declined to comment. Margit Wennmachers, a spokeswoman for Andreessen Horowitz, said the firm did not receive a subpoena. Bloomberg LP is an investor in Andreessen Horowitz.

In addition to Winklevoss Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, DFS sent subpoenas to the following investor groups: Bitcoin Opportunity Fund, Boost VC Bitcoin Fund, Founders Fund, Google Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Tribeca Venture Partners, Tropos Funds and Union Square Ventures, the person said.

Reeling in all the big names?

Always a chance this could be good for BTC....I hope

When you copied and pasted that, did you happen to notice the company now highlighted?
lol,,,i sure do now! thx man Smiley

Another Tidbit: nothing to do with yifu or avalon

are the walls closing in?

This has everything to do with Yifu and Avalon.

The guy who wrote the article is the same guy that was burnt in last weeks article by their unscrupulous PR exercise. He sounds pretty pissed off about Bitcoin scams and would probably love to know the truth behind why he became part of one and was slipped false info...

So YiFu is going to start us down the road of having to resort to government agencies to regulate bitcoin. Instead of being a man, honoring his promises and protecting his customers; he will hide behind the irreversibility and anonymity of bitcoin. Legal action will be required and bitcoin WILL BE regulated in some manner.
Congrats YiFu!! You have forced those who use bitcoin legitimately to show the world that those entrusted with large amounts of bitcoin cannot be trusted to use it legitimately. Great job, this will endear everyone to use bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

I don't think Yifu is the one starting legal action or calling the WSJ.

Dumbest response I've ever read.
Hey I like your new picture! where did you find it? lol,,, Smiley
3499  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: August 12, 2013, 05:09:35 PM
That means YiFu's story about the chips being stuck in customs is complete BS to start with.

YiFu seems so genuine in his interviews and most of his posts I've read.  Any speculation on what is really going on?  I read the http://www.avalon-asics.com/ post when they came out, but did not know what to make of it.

The obvious answer is that someone offered YiFu a crapload of cash to sit on these chips - someone who either didn't want to see all these new businesses springing-up around the chips succeed, or who's bottom line would be impacted when all these new devices came on line, or both.  An offer too good to refuse....
ya something like that may have went down,,,,at this point id rather he had sat on them,,,,,,,and starts shipping again this week,,,,as opposed to the chips have been hijacked or sold off completely somewhere? or theft? and they never arrive! Its really out of our controll anyways, we all are at his mercy, like it or not. So i am just waiting for something this week from him to say they are shipping again and when. After this week its on to plan b Im afraid. Sad
3500  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: August 12, 2013, 04:48:01 PM
The way I see it, Terrahash customers have a variety of options... (please excuse my awkward presentation, it was the best I could come up with for organizing my thoughts)

1.   Try to get a refund.
   a.   Not clear on if this is possible.  It has been alluded to, but did not see any details.
   b.   CC dispute if paid through PP?  Not sure how willing CC will be after 50+ days after sale.
   c.   PP says no, but I did see another thread that claimed it was possible but took a month.
   d.   BTC/money order refund not likely unless TH voluntarily refunds.  This is unclear to me as they did say they would offer a refund once we get an email with an estimated delivery date.  Did we get that email?  Is the estimate “two weeks after we get the chips”?  So does that mean that they will no longer offer refunds?  Confused.

I can't really help you with your other questions, as you indicated, much of that is personal choice, and depends on your overall goals. Reselling is probably the best option for the biggest ROI.

In terms of refunds though, if you paid via Paypal, you do indeed have one option left to you, assuming your credit card used is like most.. You can file a dispute with your CC for non-delivery (Be aware, you only have 90 days usually, but it could differ). Again, this should stir up the pro-Terrahash folks (I'm not anti-Terrahash, In fact quite the opposite, but I just have an issue with people defending them on this refund issue), but frankly, if you offer refunds, then pull the wording right before the pre-orders, then post that they will be considered, and then finally post that they won't be honored, you don't have any leg to stand on, not even looking at consumer protection laws. Besides, while this is the Crypto world and the game is different, credit card companies don't see this any different.

I don't want to hurt TH, but the switcheroo with the refund policy was lame.  Their original refund policy was one of the reasons I invested.  I understand they had to use the money, but still lame.  I will leave the CC dispute as a last resort if they really don't deliver in 90 days (9/16/2013?)... yikes, that is closer than I thought.  Well, maybe I will not be able to use the CC dispute... is it realistic that they will deliver in 34 days?  Ugh, this get more complex by the day.
ditto here Smiley
