I'm a bit confused about how 8 pin PCIE to 6 pin PCIE splitters work. 8 pin PCI-E devices can provide up to 150W, but a 6 pin PCI-E device can only provide 75W. I also understand that if you use 6 of the 8 pins on a 8 pin PCI-E device, it only supplies 75W in order to be backward compatible (i.e. you need to use all 8 pins to get 150W).

If you use a splitter to go from a 8 pin to 2x 6 pin PCI-E device, does each 6 pin device get 75W or 37.5W? I suppose that it may depend on how the PCI-E splitter is wired and whether or not it uses all 8 PCI-E pins.

I am no EE, but I would guess that the power lead will only provide as much power as the device will draw.  IE 6 pin provides up to 75w, so if you plug in only 1x k16 it only provides the 32w that the device is asking for.  So, if you had a 8 pin to 6 pin adapter, each 6 pin could still provide up to 75w because your 8 pin provides 150w.  The idea for these is that you could then take the 6 pins you get from that adapter and add splitters to them in order to power up to 4 k16s (128w) off that one 8 pin.

Someone correct me if I'm being stupid, but that's what makes sense to me  Grin

EDIT- I suppose you're right in that it would matter how the 8pin to 6 pins are wired, but it only makes sense to give it all 150, who wants a 37.5w 6pin??  Smiley

There are all sorts of adapters available that don't make much sense. For example, it's easy to find 6 pin to 2x6 or 2x8 pin PCIE splitters, which can't possibly provide enough wattage to each PCIE connector.

Basically, will a 8 pin to 2x6 pin splitter provide 37.5W or 75W to each 6 pin PCIE connector?

Note that in the picture of the adapter, you can clearly see that only 6 of the 8 pins in the 8 pin PCIE connector are used to split to 2x 6 PIN connectors. 2 of the 8 pins in the 8 pin PCIE connector are not used for anything.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-Express-6-or-8-Pin-to-TWO-6-Pin-Y-Splitter-Video-Card-Power-Adapter-Cable-/271199891252?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3f24c5ef34

If your PC has an 8-pin PCI-E power cable, the power supply can be assumed to be able to provide 150W of power to that cable.  If you split it with a 6-pin to 2x6-pin splitter, you may get less than 75W supplied at each split because of the two unused grounds, but you should still certainly get a good deal more than just 37.5W per split.

The amount of power that is actually available is defined by the power supply, specifically the 12V rail you are using.
In my mind when you place a 2 x 6 in splitter on an 8 pin power plug ,,it will split that down to 75 w per 6 pin max from the initial 8 pin as it was wired to deliver 150 watts Smiley where as the 6 + 2 pins start at 75 watts,,, but connect the 2 extra pins it now supply's 150 watts....I think we're worrying to much Smiley but needs discussed for sure.

It's official. I have cancelled my Paypal dispute, as someone has agreed to invest 50% of the cost and to share the mining. I don't mind as much having 5k on the line as opposed to 10k (with shipping).  I have a leased location in which I get .05 kw/h, so I will be hosting the unit and everything in the order stays the same.

As I think has been clear since Terrahash started providing updates, I obviously changed my tone once updates were being sent out. Did I overreact to the long silence? Maybe, but silence that long was very concerning in this high risk investment.

Figured I'd come here and eat some crow to show I admit when I'm wrong about something.

As an aside, here's where it will be going:

Nice!!!! Atomic,,,,,I have been wanting to see your 60 g/hashs? maybe? lol  Smiley I'd luv to be mining litecoin with all that right about now...heh"

Hey Atomic, just coincidence, but I am in NY state near Buffalo visiting family right now...where about's are you? Not that I can take over your order.....at the moment....lol

About 2.5 hours away. Enjoy Niagara falls!

oh ya....you know we will,,, Smiley

The I2C connector is 4 pins. There are 4 connectors on each board. 2 on both sides of the USB connector and 2 on the edges right next to the edge with the USB connector. The 3 Pin connector is for the fan. TerraHash boards will each come with a I2C jumper cable to daisy chain the board with another one.

That is awesome.  So we are going to have a fan, heatsink, and I2C connectors packaged alongside our K16s?  How about standoffs for stacking K16s? Cheesy

yes and send someone to my house to set them up too!!
Throw in a free case too! lol Smiley

My Order 548 for:

TerraHash DX Large × 1
Number of Modules:
9 (162 GHash/sec)

Paypal's final day is today for a response from Terrahash. With the recent good news, if someone wanted to buy this from me, I would sell it, but it would have to be in the next 12 hours that BTC is in my account.

130 BTC - But this means it would probably have to ship to me, and then I would immediately, without unpacking it ship it to you within the US (or additional charges apply).

Unlikely, but I figured I'd offer one last time before the refund is processed. I'd give complete access to my account as well.

To those asking on PM, I'm located in NY. Would consider a small BTC downpayment to cancel the dispute, as I think the CC would still cover any issues. It would have to be today though with the dispute nearly out of time. PM for any info, I won't clutter the thread up with any more of this. This also assumes that Terrahash does not object to this.

Btw, I am making a trip down to Santa Clara on Thursday to see how everything is going and to get the chip order pics. Amir and I spoke on the phone today and he said that any time on Thursday would be good. I'll stop by there in the afternoon. He also confirmed that all of our boards will come with I2C cables.
Hey Knightlife, If you can please just shore up a list for us from Amir, of what exactly we will get with the boards that ship. I think we know, but now we are hearing ic2 cables as well, which is great but that's new to me. And thanks again KL  Smiley

Trying to find info on the I2C cables for connecting multiple K64 boards.

Is it one of these 4pin connectors? Or, does this refer to something else? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arduino-Compatible-4-Pin-I2C-Connector-Pack-of-4-Fast-Shipping-from-the-US-/110862566714?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19cfec853a

I ordered those, although the board looks to be a 3-pin connector, these should work.  Only 1 i2c connector on each board so i guess we need to splice/solder our own chain together, havent found any to order.
Thought there is going to be the header for these  i2c cables to plug into for daisy chaining?

Ok TerraHash....we're looking for another update on the hashing board! You got us all feeling pretty good last week, lets see some more and keep the enthusiasm up in here Smiley any progress on the k 64?

I had been eyeballing the same ones for mine, as far as I can tell those would work. But like you I would like a second opinion lol.
3690  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 13, 2013, 02:47:29 PM
If I understood correctly DX large need K64 not K16 ... but I may be wrong ...

That is correct. klee, these cards won't necessarily fit as they are in your case. They normally cost $250 each. 3x k16 cards total to $750. 30 BTC would be practically paying $3000 for them. $1000 per card. Your case is made for a k64 which is 4 k16s. I wouldn't pay $1000 a piece for k16s.
Wow, thanks for clearing this up!
Hey btceic, if they are ready to mine in a Mini case and I don't have to pay extra, I am in for 800$.This is my last offer man..

They are 3 hosted K16's, I paid $750.00 via paypal for them, 8 BTC sounds fair.

Get it approved by Amir or Justin at TerraHash and we can all move forward.

What a piece of work.

First 30, now 8 BTC.

If it were me I would tell you to shove those cards where the sun doesn't shine.

Are you having a comprehension problem?

The guy offered me $900 per card payable in btc, I said yes, other people pointed out that he might be overpaying and he lowered his offer to $800 total, which I accepted for 8 btc.

For the record, I just want a refund.

I paid $750.00 via paypal, I deserve to get $750.00 back, if someone wants to pay me more to shut the fuck about wanting a refund then that is their prerogative.
Put em on Ebay for a 1000.00 a board pre-order like everyone else...lol

Final video before I start debugging the hardware to see why it can't hash when clocked over 275 MHz. The board finally reached 4.0 GH/s!

Where did all the trolls go

I am very, very impressed by the recent progress, and I am fully willing to admit that I jumped the gun based on the complete silence and the lack of follow-through on previous promises. Seeing the details on the progress on the BKK board, and exactly what is being worked on is exactly what I had expected in the beginning. I didn't need reassurance, I needed to see the technical details and them working with the person (BKK) they said they were working with from the start.

I would have never cancelled had I saw this from the start. Those still in that waited and were on the fence should feel very good at this point and stick with it. I love to be proven wrong on this, as I believed in them at the start, and I certainly didn't want to think I actually fell for a scam.

Keep on keeping on!
Hey Atomic,,, yes they have really come out of their shell as of late and displayed that they have some pretty darn good programmers/engineer's working at TH.... see if you can re-order? never know?

Any update or responses to some of the posts and questions?  A lot of us are watching this very closely, this is a race, and Steamboat seems to be winning.

Updated the website with our office address. Final moving in tomorrow. Anybody who wants to come visit can call us for an appointment.

We are still deciding whether to accept Paypal/CC/Bank Transfers.

The modular boards, even if ordered without a case, will come with heatsinks.

The DX Mini supports 20 K16s, not 10.

Well I guess that applies to me,,,, but thank you just the same. Some of us aren't as forum savvy, especially us old farts Smiley But I can certainly know how to mine and hash  Grin

I know this has been ask and some have answered yes, But will the finished boards ship with a Heat Sink attached?....and then we just have to rig cooling fans etc. I wish we could get that clarification from Terrahash. Even though I know a few have said that they will...we just need to be positive on this. If I have missed something in this regard, please let me know Smiley

Hey Knightlife...stay on it for us, If I wasn't 3000 miles away I'd ride with ya...would be fun! I used to live way down the coast in Ventura, my oldest daughter was born there,,, awe shucks"....heh" just feeling a little less uptight tonight Smiley Thanks again man.
3698  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 12, 2013, 01:31:42 AM
Although "we" have a policy here to not feed the trolls, but I will try to put this discussion to rest:

1. Knightlife did call in advance that day, but that was the first time he had called and "we" had no idea what his number is, in case you think we avoided his call on purpose. I was expecting him here today (Thursday), and his visit a day earlier was a surprise. And yes, that meeting WAS very important for the timely success of this whole project.

2. Knightlife saw at least one other person (Ricky, who is on our team), who came to pick me up. He can confirm this. Ricky and another team member were already at the meeting place, and they called me while Knightlife was still here, and I asked them to send Ricky to pick me up. Maybe Knightlife remembers this call and can confirm it.

3. We will invite Knightlife again soon, once the board is hashing better, and we will show him the evidence of all the 4 orders that we have directly placed with Avalon.

4. This point is irrelevant, as long as everyone gets the evidence that we are making progress.

Hey gang (TH) don't sweat it, I see you working back and forth today with BKK and you both seem headed in the right direction! Please keep that momentum up! for now that's enough for me Smiley keep em hashing! you guys are getting closer each day.
3699  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 11, 2013, 02:07:56 PM
Hello Everyone,

I made the trip to Terrahash today...

Thank you knightlife999 for going on this trip as you promised.  I think with your efforts, some of the more alarming concerns raised in older posts have been put to rest.  We are dealing with a legitimate start up that has been off to a very rough start.  Things appear to be moving in a positive and acceptable direction.  I am seeing hardware being worked on, multiple updates, and photos from Terrahash.  My comfort level and patience have all been re established.

It's my pleasure. I'm glad we are moving forward. Smiley
Hey Knightlife good job! sorry if I gave you a little static in the beginning, just didn't know who to "try" to trust in here lately. And I know it took a little nerve on your part to actually go there and ask to see what you saw and give back to us all. Your the man! Thank you! and I really do mean that Smiley
Again, Great Job Knightlife We owe ya one!
3700  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 11, 2013, 03:28:20 AM
Well I ain't so calm or graceful... but I am pretty sure these guys are not trying to take you all on a ride... so it is best people just let them do the job of making board and shipping when the time is right. I think the CALM and GRACEFUL should be applied to BKKCoins. Obviously he sees the merit in working with Terrahash and that to me is what means something. Forward is the best direction.
For sure! and at least your honest about yourself lol,
Thx
