honestly, Puppet, I like quirky, so the build doesn't bother me. I sure as hell wouldn't consider it a selling point, and I told Jim that. But this miner works, out of the box, with almost no hassle. If it had come with proper documentation, that would be NO hassle. I got it for free and had to do a bit of digging to figure out how to set it up. That is the only problem I've so far encountered with it. You wouldn't have thought much of the car I used to race in the Sierra's either. It was ugly and beat to hell. But it won. Regularly. If the performance of this machine is typical of their product, and it keeps running like this, I wouldn't care if it looked like pure shit. It don't, it's actually a nice, unobtrusive case. I was supposed to be objective, so I made sure that the flaws were in the pictures as well as the pretty parts. Frankly, having the control boards screwed into asymetrical brackets kind of amuses me, though it was scary out of the box. I am under the impression that the Coincraft series is going to be custom hardware, that they are just sourcing chips from Bitmine. I don't know if that's the case, but I think it is. Perhaps, given the timeframe, they'll be prettier. But I'm really hoping they'll be this easy to use, and as quiet. I kind of doubt the quiet I agree with you guys that they should have used a bigger and cheaper case. But they didn't, at least for their initial run, and what they did do works.

Thanks, english is not my first language. My apologies, then. I see WAY too many native speakers letting loose of their losing That extra "o" totally changes the meaning. Pet peeve of mine, but I shouldn't unload on somebody who's mother tongue is different. You forgot a period. Then again, maybe didn't forget--just misplaced. Check the lost-and-found. Where the hell did I put that thing?

He probably sold all his coin low, thinking cryptsy would never happen.
Now he's pissed.
classic example of someone who believed his own bullshit nope testicalbits, i still have all 1.2 million. looking for the correct out. by the way, eac dev, congrats on a nice coin, it is your community members who a bunch of namecalling, bashing, hateful bunch, i never knew it was a crime to talk about profit and this coin in the same sentence. I am very glad it is on cryptsy, that is where it should be. Now I hope price goes up since my 16 year old mentality tells me , up is good, down not so much. Hope your members stay here in this forum , where they belong, most coin threads people love talking profit, just not here. Thanks. Ok family, I'm going to ask you guys to please just call a truce as of here, nobody is perfect, we all get worked up - we have a great opportunity ahead of us, we are checking things off our big list fast, we appreciate the critics and WE DO WANT TO TALK PROFITS. I don't know where or when it went so sour to talk shop but let's try again without letting opinion turn into a forum bar fight. No problem here. I'm a straight up anarchocapitalist. I actually didn't have a personal beef with the man, I just thought it was funny as hell on the timing. I shouldn't have responded. AtlantisPlatform, you do make some valid points. I know, with the wording, it's hard to believe, but it wasn't actually personal. I have an odd sense of humour, and if you step back from the fray for a second, I think you'll see it to. Just remember your Roy Rogers: Everything is funny when it happens to somebody else. I've been on fora and their predecessors for over thirty years. I've stepped on my dick too. Laugh it off. I won't poke at you no more.

It's more like a $140 case, still doesn't make sense. I use $17 cases on all my rigs. The internals are silly. Who builds a product with shit strewn about and hot glued together. Even taking a moment to throw some zip ties on the wires would be better. That looks really bad.
I know it's a shit camera, but really, there is NO hot glue! the wires are zip tied and well routed, if a bit tight. The funky angles look weird, they're not badly constructed.
|
|
|
No, no hot glue. They're screwed to brackets. Just at odd angles. Everything has at least a centimeter of air gap. I don't know if that was the intent, but it seems like it. If you're talking the white blob next to the Cat5 cable, that's a piece of styrofoam that I dropped and didn't notice until after I'd already shot the pictures It's not there now. I am a bit disappointed with the power consumption, though I don't think it's out of line for the machine. They should have not advertised that without being sure. I'd be more conservative. I probably would have advertised it at 160 just to be safe. It is tunable, but at the moment at least, I'll be tuning the other way to increase the hashrate. My power is relatively cheap, and this is still about the power draw of two incandescant light bulbs. It's not a big deal on this level of machine. On the Coincraft based ones, they'll have to do better to be competitive. However, if what I read all over these forums is the case, and my unit is representative of AMT, then they really ought to be marketing ease of use and reliability. Granted, it hasn't had long enough to prove the latter, but it worked as intended without me doing anything aside from figuring out how to access it and put the proper settings in Cgminer. The only downtime I've had is when I turned it off or was messing with it. It's well configured. I think it should be in a bigger case, and that's really my only major critique so far. I haven't yet overclocked it or messed with the advanced settings. But AT DEFAULT, this little beast kicks ass. All things considered I think it's worth the price they're charging, and likely will be for at least a month. If they are now in position to ship them on time, the machine is good. A great many other bitfury based things seem to be awfully twitchy. This one ain't.

Can I please directly ask what your beef is? Feel free to PM me if you want to rant, let my family enjoy their high. Dunno if that was aimed at me or him, so... I got no beef. I just thought it was funny as hell. I'm not invested in this coin, though I intend to be. I think you're all on the right track, as real world acceptance is what even BTC is lacking right now, and the things y'all announced in your first few days make that a very possible outcome with this coin. I think most alt coins are a joke. But, that guy was demonstrating his IQ. I've never personally seen any reason NOT to engage in a battle of wits with the unarmed. Keeps your kill ratio high and your sword sharp. Still, it was more snarky than I usually am. Didn't mean to piss anyone off. Just havin' a bit of fun on a stressful night.

Isn't it fairly inaccurate for a little while as the new diff settles in? Meaning by tomorrow sometime it should level out some more.. If you don't know the answer of this question, then you should not be called a miner. Come on guys, don't let the bar drop so low... Just think of what would happen to the difficulty if hypothetically all miners stop hashing tomorrow. As I understand it, nothing. The network adjusts at 2016 blocks, so it would never have a chance to change (evil grin). 'course that would be just about the end of bitcoin, unless all the "full" node clients started hashing again.

Saw that.... I mean the one with Bitcoinorama everyone keeps mentioning... your'e telling me it's Alex there? Looks nothing like the pics we saw months ago of him He got buff, that's all. I suspect a bit more than just lugging a Jupiter around, too.

is that board just flopping around or secured in the case in the first pic??
It's secured. Sits at a weird angle. All the boards are mounted at angles. I think for airflow in the small case. It don't get real hot, and hasn't given any hassle, so I call it "art" Almost looks like the cat5 cable goes in that black plug above it, and that there's a cover off.
The black plug is a USB cable going into the TPlink board. The Cat5 actually goes into a plug under the board on the right. Like I said, it looks odd, but it works. If you follow the link at the top of the post you'll see more images, including some through the top of the case. My lighting wasn't real good, so it's not as crisp as I would like. I'm going to re-shoot with more serious light as soon as I can find the damn serious light! (the joys of packing things where you'll remember them...) Your Kill-A-Watt is getting used here shortly. On that note, to address one of Puppet's queries, the PSU is a FSP Group model fsp300-60GHS. http://www.fspgroupusa.com/fsp30060ghs80/p/606.htmlI also have a question for the seasoned miners, or at least Eligius users. Why does my indicated hashrate jump around so much over the short term? It doesn't in Cgminer. It various maybe 1-3 GH/s overall, but on Eligius it's as much as ten both ways. It seems to average out just above 80 most of the time over three hours.. is this a connection thing?

http://kevinbiomech.imgur.com/all/Pix. There will be more. review so far https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=403223.0Unlike Khanduras, my machine was only shipped the wrong direction by UPS, not badly mishandled. It works really nicely. I've been running it for almost a week now, no hiccups that I didn't cause, and not many of those. For those following, I'm still on baby watch, so this is gonna be hit and miss. I will post a much more in depth review as I go along, with updates. So far, I'm just letting it hash at default on eligius (link in my review thread) and it's kickin' right where it should be. Usually averages just a bit above 80 GH/s. Eligius stats jump around, look at the 3 hour and it's closer to what Cgminer is showing.

This is not a tool for gambling, it is intended to make a difference and with the support already garnered will do exactly just that.
Think bigger.
those 2 things Ok, I'd like to put in a bit of my perspective on this. First off, EAC, like any currency or tradeable commodity is and must be a tool for gambling! Gamble on! I have to correct that statement.
first of all: every currency can be used for gambling.
but no currency, no stock and no commodity must be a tool for gambling.
gambling =! speculation
gambling implies chance, while speculation implies informed decision making that is subject to chance, but is not identical to or synonymous with chance.
yes, many people here treat speculation like gambling. like it is all chance with a house advantage.
but those people usually lose their money and are never successful through decision making. they only get lucky.
the first thing you have to learn once you grow up and have enough money to invest it is this very difference between pure blind chance and informed speculation.
gambling implies that no matter how much research you put into something, the outcome will always be the starting value before research had been done.
this is the opposite of speculationcare to play poker? Edit: Rough day. My wife is in the early stages of labor, and I was feeling a bit snarky. I suppose I should amend my original statement that any tradeable commodity will eventually be used to gamble, and often before it has many other uses. I completely disagree with you on speculation. There is no purer form of gambling than the stock market. I got a lot going on today, so I'm not going to elucidate at this time, but I'll revisit it. Those who try to reduce risk are smart. Those who try to eliminate it are fools.

Think bigger.
those 2 things Ok, I'd like to put in a bit of my perspective on this. First off, EAC, like any currency or tradeable commodity is and must be a tool for gambling! This does not negate the second statement. The two are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they can be mutually supportive. Here's why. Gamblers are speculators. They are the most basic of speculators. All other currency speculation "above" the level of the poker table is a nuance. All business, regardless of what you are trading, is gambling. Those who say otherwise are lying. The question is who they are lying to. If they are lying to me, they failed. If they are lying to you, you have to evaluate their success. If they are lying to themselves, which is by far the most common business "sin", then they have a real problem. And it will bite them in the ass. That particular self delusion comes from a common but wrong idea that gambling is a game of chance. In almost all cases, it is not. Lotteries, yes, but even then there is always one winner. The lottery operator. Poker is the game I most often hear described as a game of chance. Anyone who believes this has a standing invitation to play poker with me. I like winning. Gambling is a game of psychology. What do I know about you? What can I extrapolate from that knowledge about the hand you hold, the way you'll react to a potentially higher hand, to a bluff, to sheer intimidation, to a kind word? Business is no different. You are trying to entice people to part with their coins, so you work with what you know of their mindset. In currency exchange, you can profit MORE on a "panic" than on a rise, because in a panic those with a short time preference will dump their coins cheap just because they are risk averse. The long player will OFFER low and smile broadly when they fall for it. Same as winning the pot on a pair of fives, because the guy holding a full house couldn't tell and was frightened by your demeanor. Markets are based almost entirely on emotion. The ones who can control their passions win. Gambling gets a bad rep because people don't understand it. Most people, in my experience, are far too risk averse to be in any sort of business, let alone straight up gambling. Those who have the ability and the willingness to risk much, often gain much. Even more often after losing rather a lot. But If I were to gamble everything I could risk, lost half of it, then gained ten times that half, was it worth it? That's the way to look at it. Short term gains are nice. They really are. But if you are playing long, these little manipulations work in your favor, AND IN THE FAVOR OF THE COIN. In the specific case of EAC, I like the developers ideas, and their enthusiasm. If they can actually pull off their direct EAC/USD exchange, and can get some merchant processing that doesn't take the hour of six BTC confirmations, then they will dominate the alt-coin market. They might even make serious inroads on BTC itself. On the other hand, if all that matters to anyone involved is trading coins for other currencies, then it's just another flash in the pan. Gamble on!

Hah, another delay! True, but the "official release date" is the 18th... (grimace) Bitparking, no idea, do they still exist? Bitminter, three thumbs up, highly recommended. ghash.io, good pool, but please dont, they already have far too much control
Bitparking still exists, but I don't know much about their recent activity. They were the first pool I ever mined on, with a laptop GPU Didn't make shit. But I wouldn't have anywhere else either. I was just learning. Be back shortly with some pix.

Sounds like at least someone might be delivering early :p
LOL, quote of the week right thur. Seconded! Name your son/daughter 'Asic'. Well, my wife already calls her "little bitcoin".... She hasn't come yet. The labor subsided, and we are on "watch and wait" mode. I'm not a patient man, and my wife makes me look like one. This ain't easy I'm gonna shoot some pix here very shortly, plus I now possess a Kill-A-Watt (thanks Vesperwillow!). If starting a project don't bring on full labor, I don't know what will. Meanwhile, the miner continues to hum away right about it's rated hashrate. Eligius shows it all over the line, Cgminer pretty steady at just above 80. Seems to average around 81 on Eligius. I'm going to try some other pools as time goes by. Any opinions on: Bitparking Bitminter eclipse never mind, it's Inaba's. Ghash.io ? Also, beginning next month I'm gonna have a go at solo mining an alt or two.
