Update.

Jim at AMT has just sent me a tracking number. I should be receiving the unit today, according to UPS. Being what a crazy day it's going to be, I probably won't be able to update anyone beyond that till after the weekend, but I will do so as soon as possible.

thinking of building a much larger farm also.....just wondering if there will be scrypt asics coming along soon to make them obsolete....

As I understand it, the cost isn't likely to be that much different from graphic cards when they do, as the ASIC is only part of the equation. Unlike the SHA256 coins in which the asic does just about everything needed, Scrypt's algorithms require a great deal of ram as well. I think that it is likely that Scrypt ASIC based machines will be an evolutionary change rather than revolutionary. Perhaps a bit more hashrate, but more likely just an improvement on power consumption. Remember, Scrypt was designed to be ASIC resistant Smiley

Of course I could be completely wrong. I'm not an expert by any means.
3003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN - NEW COIN JUST LAUNCHED] *EarthCoin* Is Here To Make A Splash For 2014! on: January 03, 2014, 02:31:40 AM
EAC really needs to get up on Cryptsy otherwise it will just get lower and lower in value and people lose interest in the coin.

This new "beta" exchange might take weeks/months before it even is live and working + its not even a known site so even if people would be able to trade EAC/USD it will take long before anything will happen.
I'm not 100% sure. If they get the exchange working and working well in the next week or two, and it's actually decent, it could cause HUGE jump in EAC's valuation because converting in and out of crypto is such a shitty, sketchy, difficult task.

This. I also think that advo has a lot to do with it, and I mean Real World advo, not just the "interested" parties in these fora. The devs claim they got some money behind this, and it does appear to be true. Once they get the infrastructure in place and the legal hurdles jumped, a LARGE advertising budget would be a wise choice.

I also think they ought to either do their own take on a payment processor, or approach Bitpay. Getting USD or other traditional fiat monies to vendors via a coin payment processor is a very good way to both promote the brand and cryptocurrency in general. In fact, I think the ease of payment/exchange problem is the biggest hurdle for cryto that currently exists. Plus, the fast confirmation vs. Bitcoin could position EAC ahead of BTC for small purchases very easily.

I'm running on fumes, so I'll cut this short for now, except to say that so far I am impressed with this coin.
3004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 02, 2014, 09:14:30 PM
Here's a blatant divergence from the thread.  What the author describes should be good for Bitcoin however.  He get annoyed at Happy New Years wishes and decries disasters that might befall the world and the US in the coming year.  When he gets to the US economy he postulates:

"  But even sooner than a nuclear disaster, we may be facing an even more critical economic disaster -- the catastrophic loss of the dollar’s unique position as the international reserve currency. This is imminent, according to leading economic and political analysts, and would trigger a total collapse of the U.S. banking system, generating explosive financial panic as we are subjected – not only to massive inflation – but also the immediate seizure by failing banks of all our deposits: checking accounts, savings accounts, Certificates of Deposit (CDs), money market funds, pensions, and any other liquid assets. Can failing banks really seize our money “just like that”? Yep, just like that. It is perfectly legal; the enabling “bail-in” laws have already been put on the books in the U.S. and Europe (did you sleep through that?).

And don’t think the FDIC  will protect your deposits up to the $250,000 limit promised by this agency. For when the failing banks seize your deposits, they will convert your money into stock in their failed institutions, rendering you “legally compensated” for your loss, and therefore not entitled to reimbursement  by the FDIC. Not that it will matter because, by that time, the FDIC will be bankrupt, since it has reserves of only $25 billion, whereas the seized deposits requiring compensation would likely exceed $25 trillion. And even if the FDIC could lay its hands on $25 trillion (fat chance, since this is nearly twice the entire Gross Domestic Product of the United States), another statute now  on the books, namely the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 2005, which was arm-twisted into law by Citigroup, JP Morgan, Chase,  Wells Fargo and the rest of the usual suspects (bet you slept through that, too), compels the FDIC to give preference to derivatives counter-parties over mere depositors like yourself, whose claims for reimbursement could exceed $600 trillion – or more than the GDP of the entire world economy. "

Yeah, crazy people silly nonsense...

Yep. And more than half the country voted for them.

Soy, link please?
3005  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 02, 2014, 07:48:09 AM

So we small miners might be mining bitcoins looking like toy sales in the small neighborhood candy store while a Toy-R-Us and a Walmart are under construction on the same block.

This is what myself and a handful of others have been saying for quite awhile now. Are you just now seeing the writing on the wall?

There is a limit to the amount of hardware households can sustain. Neptune in theory is currently the ceiling until another full step down in process node to sub 14nm, as it's power consumption may limit one device per household mains. Then of course you have the amount of hashing power to remain competitive to contend with. It inevitably will have to be housed in a datacentre.

that's my question in usa you have 30amp circuits 220v for stoves and clothes dryers etc

you also have 220 volt circuits which are essentially 2 20 amp circuits (wire) on a 20 amp breaker

so which kind of 220v we talking about here ...30amp wire or 20amp wire?

I have a 100amp service...(no central air or furnace or heat ...just boiler heat only ie small pump)

so I could easy put in 3 220v 20amp breaker circuits in for 2 Neptunes and 1 220v for a kick as window air unit to cool them....

if you are talking 220v 30 amp the kind of stuff you use for stove or clothes dryer that could be a streach (although who needs as stove or clean clothes?)

anyway others who have looked into this from the USA end...which of these is the more likely scenario?

Searing

If it was me, I'd upgrade the service. Your meter is almost certainly a 200 amp, as most of them are, and a 200 amp main service is cheap. Wire in the new breakers exactly the same as the old ones, and you're set.

And yes, 220/240v nominal for dryers and stoves and such is the same. Different plugs, sometimes, but that's a simple receptacle. Just get the one you need for your device. All of this is available at Lowes, Home depot and such. At a minimum, I'd go up to 150 just for the larger panel space. The wiring is simple, and there are a number of good books on the subject that take a complete newbie through the basics of house wiring. Depending on your jurisdiction, you'll need to get it inspected once the panel change is finished. For any 20 amp circuits, I'd say a minimum of 12ga wire, bigger is better for safety, but not cost. Overkill on capacity is not a bad thing when you're running a high draw device.
3006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 02, 2014, 05:45:54 AM
W.r.t. Heat I had to share a hotel room with one of the nov boxes on to check it survived the flight. Fell asleep and woke up covered in sweat. I can't imagine what Cyphers house is like right now.

I also spent a night fixing dead boxes in the DC for the hosting on an occasion. October kit only, was a month or two back. In any case aside the monotonous hum. I had to take a break and grab water every hour. Even with aircon in the building it was hot hot hot.

24Kw in summer will just compound the heat...

EDIT: just saw what Bogart wrote as I posted. Most of the US households are not 240V and 200 Amps though.

Depends. That is actually the standard for single family dwellings and duplexes, since 1973. However, a lot of apartments now run 150 amp. 240v in is standard, to make it possible to run a dryer and a stove. A lot of mobile homes have a 100 amp service, and a few older aparments. The one I'm in is ten years old and an "economy" unit. (read low income housing). It's main is 125 amps/240v. That's kind of weird, actually, but I've seen it before. 150 is much more common in apartments built in the last thirty years, 100 before that. Most houses, unless really old or in the People's Republic of Pennsylvania, are 200amp/240v.

I should also note that upgrading a single family dwelling to a 300 amp service is easy and relatively cheap. By comparison to the price of your mining machines, it's damn near free. All told, if you do the work yourself, probably less than 500 dollars including inspection fees and the upgraded meter fee. Adding circuits can be difficult if you want to keep them concealed in walls, but if you were powering a shed or something like that, just run a line in a 24" to 36" trench to the shed and leave the inside wiring exposed. There's no added danger from this, and if you have neat hands it looks cool. It's also easy to just run a second line of service to an outbuilding.

The theory behind electrical load calculations and such is complicated and scary if you aren't an electrician or a mathematician. The actual mechanics of it are simple as hell.

2nd: i had login troubles too. Was at my computer @ work. When i enter login details, i get the loginpage again... Was on IE.

Back home @ firefox, it worked like charm again. I recon it could be the browser / settings. Have you tried other browser like chrome / firefox / IE ?

yes - IE 11 here - out of principle I only use IE as browser..
tried delete all in safety - but didn't help..
only happens with that site..

Out of sheer morbid curiousity, what principle? I've used IE for one thing in the last decade: Downloading firefox on a new install. The lack of trouble by comparison has been vastly relieving. I hate Chrome, though I like a couple of chromium based browsers, particularly Comodo Dragon. IE never does what I want and constantly messes up the display unless it's specifically formatted for it, rather than generic HTML. Not as bad in later versions, but still..

I have, in the past, had severe issues logging into various fora with IE. Was one of the reasons I dumped it back in the last century. Note that I am NOT a Microsoft hater. I've used their o/s in many incarnations since the early 80's and prefer Windows to everything else I've tried. Ubuntu is a close second, but it is only second.

if someone buy Saturn from me i will give away 68,000 EAC (1000 each) for the first 68 people who will post  "NO TO GAMBLING AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL".

Life is a gamble, I'll keep at it till I'm dead or immortal. Anyone tells you that the stock market, or bitcoin, or EAC, or any form of business is not gambling is selling something, and it ain't what they're telling you.

Risk much, gain much.

Happy New Year!

how the frak do u messed up typing your address?Huh? I've never heard of that lolo

Easy to do when ya just moved Smiley I got the message the day of an early labor scare (my daughter is imminent) and I was frazzled. I forgot the apartment number.

They got the correction. Just waiting now. I'll keep y'all informed. All this went down on Christmas Eve, so I imagine my fuckup caused a shipping delay if nothing else was wrong.

PSU for Neptune:

30 % less power consumption, mean 0,7 Watt per GigaHash/s, mean 3000 * 0,7 = 2100 Watt for one Neptune ! Huh

2 x PSU or how will we power on the neptune?

who knows.

maybe a PSU will be included or, more likely, they'll give you a pointer on what upo need to buy.
Exactly... we could end up anywhere wattage wise,  but If I was to guess...   3Th/s was a minimum number, which means we could indeed be in excess of 3000 watts, if the Neptune is like 4.25Th/s or above.. which is likely...
But I was indeed thinking for that price, PSU's would indeed be included... especially after the fiasco's dealing with PSU branding & specs....
Built in wi-fi wouldn't hurt either....

Slight update.

I provided incomplete information by mistake, so the miner hadn't shipped yesterday. That was my fault. I did catch them before it was a problem.

I'll keep y'all posted.

We've done some serious thinking, and have chosen a member of this thread to send a free miner to in order to evaluate our product and write a review. That member is one who has stayed positive yet pessimistic throughout this thread's history. He has no relation to AMT and simply seems like a legitimate guy.

BIOMECH  (if he agrees) will receive a free 80ghs next week, shipped out on monday with tracking info for everyone to see.

So we'll wait to see if BIOMECH agrees and if he does we'll ship his free 80Ghs on Monday.

Well, there's my personal "Holy Shit!" moment!

By all means, I accept. Didn't really think I'd made that much of an impression, but I'm glad I did!

For the record, and I'm sure some of you will be screen capturing this, I have no association with AMT other than this thread. I actually first looked at them because they are in Pennsylvania, which is the state my wife is from and where I lived for the last 8 years previous to June. I've asked AMT to not reveal my real last name at this time, but I may reconsider that.

As soon as I have tracking data, I'll at least post a note here, and I will do an unboxing video the day I get the thing. I will do a preliminary review within a week and keep updating as I go along, with one caveat. My wife is due to give birth within the next couple of weeks. If my daughter decides to come early, I reserve the right to be delayed Smiley I'll still keep y'all informed.

Thank you very much, AMT, and I do hope this works out well for both of us.

Kevin Biomech

P.S. for those who care, I live in Mountain Home, Idaho. It's about 40 miles east of Boise, which is a major postal hub. So it should happen pretty fast. That being said, I got home pretty late, so they may not get my reply in time for their initial offer. Should that happen, it's on me, not them. I was in the hospital.

We're happy to give you a Holy Shit moment. We feel that you'll give us an honest review, good or bad and at least its a review that majority of the trolls in this thread cant argue with. Please send your details to orders@advancedminers.com and we'll make sure to get it out Monday by 1pm.

Done. Thank you very much!

All in all, we're pretty sick of this thread and people on it, thats why we dont reply. Although we do love the fact that it keeps us at the top of this category, which brings customers to our doorstep or via phone which convert into almost immediate sales after we explain what kind of people are really posting here and why they do so.

who ever is behind this attempted sabotage you might as well stop, we'll be one of the first on the US market with a TH miner and we ARE one of the few companies in the moment actually shipping and delivering miners. So really it's inevitable.  Dave from megabitfury is also selling miners, he has a better rep than us and you guys can order from him if you'd like. Hes a good guy I've worked with myself and can say only good things about megabitfury.

Our door is open, we've had some clients pick up their 80's and 128's this week, we've had a few other guys just stop by to visit to see if we're real and then they placed orders.. We're there from Monday to Friday after 10am everyday..  The address is on the site.. like all in all, just get over it because we ultimately don't care what gets posted on this thread because the people that buy from us are generally pleased with their product and even when we urge someone to post here you guys tear it up anyway.

The reason companies are scamming people from this forum is because people from this forum make it extremely difficult for companies to work correctly. That's why you all have gotten scammed in the past or are afraid to get scammed in the future. and thats why other companies take forever because the few ruin it for the many. It's like accusing your girlfriend of cheating on you because your a jealous asshole, even if she isn't cheating on you, you accuse her anyway, and eventually she cheats on you because she feels guilty even though she hadn't done anything from getko.

But we're still shipping and still delivering miners despite this retarded thread of normal guys mixed with a few obnoxious individuals.

But please be reassured about one thing. We absolutely, 100% dont give a fuck about what is said on this thread about us. Please know it and realize it. Because our clients know it's bullshit, and the few clients that came from this thread say "its really a shame what they're doing to you on bitcointalk" and we only nod and agree. We're a team from Philly that builds and sells miners. We only care about the clients who've money we've taken and the miners we need to ship them, and about the clients who will order from us in the future and the miners we'll ship to them as well. That's it. We're not out to be millionaires, were happy just building miners and making our 10%.

Thanks for your support and abuse, positive and negative.

Well, there's my personal "Holy Shit!" moment!

By all means, I accept. Didn't really think I'd made that much of an impression, but I'm glad I did!

Well, I guess there is at least one element of honesty in the shilling:  a 5% discount and an early shipment is worthless on a product that won't ever exist. So at least we can say that all the shills created through that offer at least earnestly believe that AMT is not a scam.

just wow, we have a "moderator" chiming in? I just lost a lot of respect for this site - im late to that game i admit. here i was thinking this was a reputable blog.

gmaxwell... do you have anything intelligent to bring to the conversation or just your worthless speculation?

a'right, now you crossed a line. gmaxwell has been very even handed as a mod. (he's deleted a couple of my posts, and I had it coming). He's still entitled to his opinion.

That being said, I still don't think you're a shill. Just a fanboy, which is ok. But chill out a bit, eh? There will always be a hostile element in any public forum. You got poked at, and responded. It happens. Most of us have done it. Now take a deep breath, take your hands away from the keyboard, smoke a joint, and ease down the steam a bit. Otherwise you look like the accusations are not baseless. Capice?
3017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 19, 2013, 07:21:06 PM
if KNC sold Jupiters initially for $6,995
and then dropped it to $4,995

then now with difficulty higher and BTC lower it would have to be below $3995, and that seems high especially if BTC continues the downward trend.

One thing I believe that KNC are good at choosing price to always sell quickly, and if they didn't then the whole network protection and help customers keep percentage of the network goes out the door.

Also about the low BTC price due to news from China...
personally, I think the Chinese some time to sort themselves out, and we'll see BTC come back up when they have a solution sooner or later.

I've been watching China for a long time. It's unusual for them to act quickly. I didn't see the latest panic, as I had a hell week at work, so I don't know the details. But China has a tendency to try to limit exposure to new things, but leave at least one area or industry alone and watch. And by watch I mean leave it be for quite some time, then adopt or adapt into other sectors accordingly. They have expressed quite a bit of interest in Bitcoin, so if they shut down an exchange or made a blanket ruling on it in such a short time, I would guess that it's preparatory to them doing something they can keep a better handle on, rather than anything long term.

Also, after the drop, BTC seems to be climbing up again. China has a huge influence, but there are a lot of other interested parties to this game.
3018  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: Advanced Mining technology (AMT) on: December 19, 2013, 07:09:26 PM
It may or may not be true, but a good friend of mine told me that AMT offered people (or at least them) a 5-10% discount to defend them here on the forums. It could be in this mess of a thread somewhere, but to be honest, I didn't read it entirely. That could definitely explain the army of irate cheerleaders.

Sounded far fetched to me, but actually, you are correct:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=304605.msg3893935#msg3893935

Woha. And then people question my motives. This alone would be reason enough never to buy from AMT. They must be the first company to unashamedly and publicly pay off shills. If they have no problems doing that, who knows what else they are capable off.

hell yeah your motives are questioned. you make ridiculous claims based on speculation. it is very clear you are an attention whore and a troll. you have zero credibility bro... none.

I suggest you read through the KnC thread (if you have a lot of time) and you'll find that Puppet had a lot to say that was spot on. So did Phoenix1969, who your style reminds me of. Both got at odds to one another too, and both were right as often as not. Puppet's ok in my book. So are you. AMT? I'm still neutral. They aren't playing real smart, but that isn't unusual for geeks trying to do marketing. I think they made some claims they couldn't live up to, probably unintentionally, and instead of fessing up they clammed up. Also typical geek behaviour. Let's try not to start a flame war. I too thought the discount thing was kind of classless.

FWIW I have followed both threads from the first post. KnC delivered. Late, but not horribly so, and a good but buggy product. Let's hope that like them, AMT's main problem  is poor communication and a bit more ego than justified. I don't think they are a scam. I do think they need to get some professional marketing people and LISTEN to them.

Puppet is a good source of information. He also jumps newbies.

 Shocked

I absolutely dont and i take offense that you say so.
I do "jump" stupid arguments, but I dont care one yota if they come from 5 year old veterans or 1 week old accounts. In fact Id be more likely to just ignore a newbie saying stupid things than someone who should know better by now.

For the most part that's true. I take it back. You did a couple times on the KnC thread, but you jumped vets too. I just came off of a 70 hour work week and I think I had you confused with Avenger or Edgar. I have more coffee in me today. The rest of my reply wasn't really aimed at you. You ARE a good source of information.

I do wish that people on here would make more of a distinction betwixt a fan and a shill. Clenell reminds me of Phoenix1969 on the KnC thread. Excitable but cool, ya know?

"crickets"

Puppet is a good source of information. He also jumps newbies. It's not a good dichotomy, but there it is.

I've not been specifically in his sights like some others, but I do want to comment on something I keep noticing (actually not that much from Puppet, but from quite a few others who have been on for a long time). That's the "have it both ways" mentality. I got jumped for being a newbie with opinions the day I started posting. Yet in reality I had been on the fora for over two months. I just didn't bother to register until I had something to say. Which turned out to be an annoyance due to newbie jail (my own failure, had I registered while reading I would have had all the necessary time online, and five posts ain't shit).

But there it is. Everyone starts somewhere. Being a new guy doesn't mean anything, really. People are always yelling to read, but if you take the time to do so, they yell for you being a new guy with a low post count.

How 'bout looking to content ahead of time in service, eh? Is that such an egregious paradigm?

I'd like to hear from just one of the newbie bashers on this. The one who never tripped over his dick on a forum. I've never met this guy, and despite being rather new here, I've been on BBS's since the late 70's. Everybody is a newbie at some point. And as you noted, along with others, Bitcoin is gaining traction in the media. A couple weeks back it was on the front page of the Idaho Statesman, and that paper has over a hundred year history of being late to the party.

On topic, I really hope AMT pulls it off. They are within reach of me if I can raise the money. I like the idea of walking in with cash and out with a mining machine.
