2861  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $1.99/GH/s, miners from $2.97/GH/s on: February 05, 2014, 05:18:47 PM
On a not unrelated note, the complete lack of confidence in the transparency, accountability and ability to deliver has resulted in the spamming up of Ebay with Black Arrow pre-order sales. Talk about desperation as people hope to retrieve their money any way they can. Six months ago it was a mountain of Jalapenos, now it's a mountain of Prosperos.

At least there were real pictures of Jalapenos, people knew what they were supposedly going to get, the only thing consistent about the Prospero is... wait for it... the slogan, "This machine is designed to generate a steady revenue of Bitcoins for the owner."

Yeah right... hopefully they actually do appear and do generate some meaningful return for the people kind enough to take BA at their word and fund the Minion ASIC development by parting with their cash.

It's time for senior management to step up, take their foot out of their mouth and address their customers.

I just realized something!

Living on a lighted stage
Approaches the unreal
For those who think and feel
In touch with some reality
Beyond the gilded cage

Cast in this unlikely role
Ill-equipped to act
With insufficient tact
One must put up barriers
To keep oneself intact

[Chorus:]
Living in the limelight
The universal dream
For those who wish to seem
Those who wish to be
Must put aside the alienation
Get on with the fascination
The real relation
The underlying theme

Living in a fish eye lens
Caught in the camera eye
I have no heart to lie
I can't pretend a stranger
Is a long-awaited friend

All the world's indeed a stage
And we are merely players
Performers and portrayers
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage

Scene one in Act 3 served as a major turning
point in the Tempest particularly for the
coward-like character Prospero, who hides
behind his minion Ariel to...

"and the men who hold high places,
must be the ones to start,
to mold a new reality,
closer to the heart..."

I knew there was a reason I liked you! Anyone who quotes Rush can't be all bad.
2862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 05, 2014, 10:34:00 AM
I'm in full conspiracy mode now, lol.  I haven't seen anyone mention this very likely possibility yet...

20nm will never be developed by KNC.

Why?  Because if KNC never has to deliver a working Neptune to your door (c'mon aren't we all thinking we'll never see a real Neptune in person, right?)  Then what incentive do they have to build the new product when the 28nm Jupiters will do the hosted mining job perfectly fine with ultra cheap electricity.

We might see photos of datacenters filled with "our" Neptunes hashing away.  Shh, they'll just be Super-Jupiters in newly designed boxes.   But we will never have direct control of our individual boxes, just some vague, generic hashrate that we may have minimal control over.  So we'll never no for sure what KNC is hashing with.

Bookmark this post.  I want full credit when the conspiracy is exposed.  Cheesy

Why will no one see a working Neptune? I will be having mine delivered, regardless of the data centre.

I can almost guarantee that we will ultimately never be given the option of delivery for whatever bullshit reason they conjure up.

The more I think about this, the more I'm convinced it will come true.  Someone please convince me that I'm crazy and I'll book an appointment for a shrink right now!
why? what's wrong with crazy?
2863  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 04, 2014, 09:20:39 PM
Well they basically mislead Jupiter/Saturn/Mercury customers and caused them to delay making other purchases.

They have had their factory going full tilt likely making 28nm cards that they have no intention of selling to the customers that got them off the ground unless they bought into their next generation of devices (thats a big FU in my book)

Absolutely agree.

They never mentioned whether they were selling upgrades so I asked that question explicitly,

If the answer comes back NO then I am done with KNC.

They caused me to delay, spend money I didn't need to and I am not a Neptune customer and don't plan on being one.

I also want to know about the Upgrade Modules as they didn't mention anything about it. I'm with Joe, if they don't sell the modules, I'm done with KNC. I've waited for so long to purchase the modules, and nothing.

It seems they don't really give a shit about their first customers, the people that helped them get off the ground, they only care about their current "Neptune" customers.

Guess I'll be adding more Ants to my farm until something better comes along.

EDIT: Anyone think about what happens to all those miners in the newly built data center IF Plan A actually comes through? That is a shit ton of hashing dedicated just to KNC. I'm fairly certain that would be WAY above and beyond the 5% they've declared to mine for them selves.

My guess would be that they sell shares like CEX does. It's a successful model, so why not?
2864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 04, 2014, 09:10:45 PM
What is the most plausible theory for more than two months of silence re Neptune despite apparent discontent of customers?
Here is my speculation on possibilities (from the most probable #1 to almost impossible #5):
1. They are experiencing significant difficulties with Neptune design and want to overcome those problems before updating.
2. They are positioning to change their business model from selling individual units to the "fair shake" cloudhashing model, where customers will be buying slots in the icelandic super-mine managed by KnC. Everyone who ordered Neptune would be offered a slot with a modest increase in hashing power (to 3.5-4TH), but will have to pay extra for "hosting".
3. They were bought by someone or majority bought by a third party (perhaps even by a government-controlled entity).
4. They were bought/invested into by 21e6 (or merged with 21e6). Alternatively, they were supplying Jupiters to a single unknown party (cloudhashing?).
5. They are resting on their prior success and "taking it easy".

1. No
2. Perhaps
3. No
4. No
5. No

It may not be outside the realm of possibilities that they have other projects they are working on?
JOE hit nail on the head.

If we can organize a list of questions, I can try getting answers.
I'm personally not interested in the name game, that's just distraction trolling that I'd expect from someone who's been spending too much time on 4chan but lacks their style and panache. If you want to resolve the vapourware concerns you could ask BAS to get Global Foundries to issue a brief press release to confirm the works they're underway with for BAS (I'm assuming GF can't do this without BAS permission, commercial sensitivity etc, but if they come to an agreement I can't see it being a problem).

The second point would be replacing the lost GHS, I'd refer to my earlier post. Something like 100% of the hash rate for the same duration as the delay, or 50% hash rate for 2x the delay.. or so on. This would be my ideal solution.

Please have a think & chat and get back to us. Cheers

(From another Matt!)

This may be the most sensible post on this whole thread. If Global were to issue that statement, I think it would put a lot of rumour and trolling to rest real quick.

Full disclosure, I have no dog in this fight, though I was seriously considering getting a couple of x-1's at tax time. With the above suggestion implemented, I still might. They are a better deal than the Antminer, if they aren't vaporware.

How about it, BA?
2866  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: February 04, 2014, 04:25:15 AM
it would be so easy to say:
e.g. desk shipping from xx
rig shipping from xx

someone news about desk or rig Huh,  i have both ordered

i just talked with bit mine.

They say that first miner will leave production beginning of next week. my miners (rigs) will be ready for pick up end of next week till beginning of week after the next one.
they had in production some problems, but it seems to be solved now (i hope so!!!)

what i find very interesting...

Everybody in bitcointalk knows AMT??? i think at least... if not here is a link to their thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=304605.msg4870542#msg4870542

Bitmine support doesn´t know anything about them... support said clear that there is no partner with name advanced miners.
i asked it because we as direct clients of Bitmine.ch have to wait for chips and miners at least same long as AMT and now even seems that AMT will ship earlier as Bitmine.ch...
Answer was clear: they don't have partner with that name and they do not have a clue from where they should have such amount of chips...

Is AMT scam? or just this support does not know anything about them?

strange...

Sorry about that, it looks like the operator that answered your call didn't understand clearly you were meaning AMT with "Advanced miners". We do have a partnership with them indeed and they are perfectly legit as per our official post here: http://bitmine.ch/?p=2968

AMT are our only officially recognized distributors along with 50btc and Zefir user on this forum for the DIY chips distribution, take care because everything else out there that claims to be us or to work with us it not, there are a lot of scams around!

Woa ..

the next ASIC manufacturer should just state something like "optimistically to deliver in Feb 2014 with possible chance of delay, +/- 2 months"

Nah. They should just drop the preorder bullshit altogether. Bitmain isn't hurting for business. They aren't drawing all the drama, but they are quietly delivering quality equipment. To my knowledge they never did a preorder, and it has been my observation (and hopefully soon my experience) that they deliver in about a week from payment.

I'm grabbing at least one and hopefully a bit more at tax time.

I still want faster machines, and probably will get them, but I don't wanna do the preorder thing. Too many flighty operators.
2868  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: An Idea for Broadening the Bitcoin Miner Base and Preventing Over Consolidation on: February 02, 2014, 07:13:25 AM
Could the problem of consolidation and concentration in the Bitcoin miner base be solved in the following way?

Design a program that can run in the background on standard desktops, laptops, smartphones, etc., that uses their computing power to turn them into mini mining rigs.

The program automatically connects each device to all other devices running the same program, and the result is the creation of an enormous (in terms of numbers of machines) mining pool. Perhaps millions of devices might run the same program, and the total computing power of all these interconnected devices could be significant from a Bitcoin mining perspective.

The Bitcoins mined by this mining pool are divided among all devices running the program according to a predetermined formula. The Bitcoins awarded to each device are automatically deposited in a wallet that is part of the original program that was downloaded to that device, so the user who downloads the program needs to have no knowledge about receiving or sending Bitcoins. The user receives the Bitcoins directly to his/her device automatically solely as a result of running the program.

Though the amount of Bitcoin received by each device is infinitesimally small, the user receives the Bitcoins for free merely from downloading and running the program. This is one incentive for downloading and running the program.

The other incentive to use the program is to help protect and further the Bitcoin ecosystem by keeping the Bitcoin miner base as broad as possible, and to prevent over-consolidation and over-concentration in the Bitcoin miner base.

Is something like this feasible?

You just described Satoshi's client.

KK, took your advice on the thread. Regarding the voltage, don't take it past 900 in the tplink settings, you're likely to blow the board if you do. Overclocking never really helped anyone in the long run.

Thanks. Honestly, I've gotten better results LOWERING the voltage so far. Which seems weird, but what the hell if it works Smiley

Looking forward to seeing your new miners. Good luck and happy hashing!

I know I said I wouldn't reply to you anymore, but I just need to make one point.
If you go around and say that every pre-order is a scam, then you will most likely be right on a few of them. Doesn't mean you're right all the time. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Greetings Miners!

The donation options in the My Eligius control panel now officially function (beta).  I have the new patch tested and running on the server now for monitoring.

Currently the donations are just held by the pool, but I will be doing up stats and publicizing where exactly the donations are paid out, as soon as I confirm that the code is stable (it has been in the works for a while now).

So, please consider donating even a small amount to the pool!

Thanks,

-wk

Er? Didn't they already function? I've had it set up for a little while now... or was it not working?

The options have been there for some time, but the code to actually take the donation % was incomplete, until now.

Well, shit. I thought I had been paying you Smiley Well, I guess I really am now.

2876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are all the Bitcoin millionaires? on: February 01, 2014, 10:18:21 AM
There are more than 890 addresses with at least 1,200BTC in them.

More than 2500 addresses with at least 500BTC.

The millionaires are out there, they're just really quiet about it apparently.

While I myself am a po' boy, I've known a few millionaires. Most of them do NOT advertise, other than they tend to wear the finest clothes and not drive old junk. People pester the fuck out of a guy known to have money, and it costs money to prevent that.

Smart people with a moderate to large bankroll do their business quietly, unless there is a good reason not to. Lottery winners tend to be broke within a decade, cuz they "live large" instead of being careful with their money. If I were a millionaire, you would never know it. I'd have the money to purchase the peace and quiet that I like.

What I meant to say was that if you spent the equivalent of 10btc back a couple of years ago on something that makes you ONE btc today, then you made a massive profit. I think.
<snip>

If I rephrase that as: "If I gave you 10btc back a couple of years ago and you give me ONE btc today, then I made a massive profit", can you see the problem? Still doesn't work.

I'm just gonna leave it alone. I'm not sure what I was trying to say, now. I was more intoxicated than I usually get. I tried to reconstruct it from what I typed, not memory. Suffice it to say it don't even make sense to me. I fucked up, I admit it, and I'll try to avoid drunken typing from now on.
2880  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales NEW STOCK ***NOW SHIPPING*** on: January 31, 2014, 09:34:37 AM
What in the heck are you guys thinking?!? Have you ever even tried the currency exchange game?

Please explain to me how spending say 110 in the past say for a BFL single to have it mine maybe 10 or say 15 btc over it's lifetime EVER EVER going to be a profit?! Why is mining better than buying and holding on to the coins? The only way mining will ever be worth it is if you paid with fiat. Then and only then you are truly betting on the exchange rate of btc -ie you are long BTC to use trader speak. So if the exchange rate keeps on going up and up even if the hardware only mines less than what your fiat bought you in btc terms at the time you purchased the hardware then you are still IN PROFIT IN FIAT terms, but then that begs the question why did you even do that. Why not just keep btc that you bought with fiat at whatever price and go long btc. You would've had MORE overall had you not spent it on some digital gold digger that will likely mine less than what you put into it!

Let's be honest here. The main reason we do this is because:

a) we enjoy playing with the technology
b) we have some fetish about mining
c) we are fools cause we think we will actually make a profit in btc terms
d) we are too gutless to trade btc
e) we don't have enough fiat cash to buy hardware so we reinvest or invest btc instead
f) we enjoy making the ASIC mining companies rich

The reality is that you will be outgunned by people with more money than you when it comes to mining.

Why don't any of you do a little test. Buy a miner with X $ and also buy some btc with the SAME $ amount. See in the end which has made you MORE money in $ terms. Just do it.

"If you invested 10BTC at 10 bucks back a couple years ago to get back 1 BTC today, you made a massive profit"

WTF? Are you really saying this? Tell me honestly, were you drunk when you typed this Smiley?  If you spent $10 for 10 btc and during the time span of a couple years all you got was 1 btc you now have ~$1000. Had you kept that 10 BTC you bought with $10, you would now have $10,000. So in fact you _lost_ the opportunity to gain $9000.

Oh, Jumpin Jeezus. I rarely drink. Yes, I was drunk.

What I meant to say was that if you spent the equivalent of 10btc back a couple of years ago on something that makes you ONE btc today, then you made a massive profit. I think. I seriously only drink about twice a year. See why?

Sorry about that.
