461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's behind the mysterious Bitcoin? on: May 17, 2022, 09:35:13 AM
Forget about your far-fetched theory, just focus on Bitcoin as it is. Whether Bitcoin was created by the Fed or the CIA, whether Satoshi Nakamoto was just a myth, Bitcoin could be independently appreciated for what it is. And it is what it is, a truly decentralized, trustless, immutable currency. So embracing Bitcoin should not be emanating from bizarre theories. Rather, it is through an objective scrutiny of its features.

Absolutely, and what else speaks against the theory is that Bitcoin would be finished if all players would lose confidence in it. The fate of Bitcoin is in the hands of many independent people who work together to create such an amazing network.
462  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- 2021/22 Final! on: May 17, 2022, 09:28:37 AM
Exactly
that's why I say Real Madrid are favorites
the players were more rested, both physically and mentally (due to La Liga)

Well, but Real's players are also significantly older than Liverpool's team. That could make up for this disadvantage for Liverpool. Liverpool now has two important games left this season (last league game and CL final). For these two games, the highlights of the season, they will once again put everything on the line, no matter if they are physically and mentally drained or not.

It was confirmed yesterday that Suarez will not be an Atletico player next season. He was fantastic for them last season and was probably the biggest contributor to their title win, but aged 35 he can't play in Atletico's system any longer.

I would not say that he can not longer play in this system, because the system has not changed. Rather, he would only be a supplementary player and that is certainly not the role in which he sees himself.
At 35, he has experienced everything. For him, the best solution would be to play another 1-2 years in the U.S. or Arabia and earn good money for retirement.

465  Economy / Economics / Re: Who will Replace Russian Gas Supplies to Europe? on: May 14, 2022, 01:23:20 PM
Renewable energy should just be a better alternative other than stretching the African nations that don't have enough for their own sustainability. So far in terms of oil production, availability and supplies Russians cannot be replaced the only way to avoid direct deals with Russian oil is to source for alternative sources like Renewable energy or energy from waste products since electricity will be too expensive

Well, I am a friend of renewable energy but I am also realistic. Europe, with its enormous hunger for energy, cannot supply itself alone. The only option would be nuclear energy, but it is neither renewable, nor does it produce radioactive waste, and it would continue to depend on uranium and plutonium from other countries. Only when hydrogen can be produced at an acceptable economic rate can Europe become energy independent, but I fear that will take a while.
466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! on: May 14, 2022, 01:18:52 PM
I too will say that, for anyone not to use the recent price decline of bitcoin to make wrong conclusion, bitcoin will rise again.

Yeap, remembers me to a friend with very week hands. Before Corona he bought Bitcon at about $11k. While Corona crash he sold at $4.6k even though I advised him to wait because I was convinced it will rise again. He did not hear and sold. After the crash and the fast rise of Bitcoin price he bought in again, very late at $48k. He told me yesterday that he sold again at $31k Cheesy I have never sold, not during Corona, nor do I now.
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Metaverse Cryptocurrencies on: May 14, 2022, 01:13:03 PM
I don't know anything about Metaverse Cryptocurrency because I only think the market conditions are still uncertain and difficult to predict.

Metaverse is still a very abstract term used mainly for marketing purposes. Facebook popularized Metaverse because the corporation is looking for a new growth area after Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram are slowly reaching their limits.

If that, Metaverse will only play a role in a few years and by then the coins that now focus on the Metaverse are history anyway. That is why an investment in such coins is still worthwhile in the short term in my opinion.

Especially now that the tech bubble has started to burst.
468  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- 2021/22 Final! on: May 14, 2022, 01:08:44 PM
To be honest I think both the teams deserve the Champions League trophy and I really don't often say this. Teams have played really well and they have very well proved themselves. I also hope the very best for Benzema in the finals. And that will surely take him one step closer to the Ballon d'Or. I am sure that this is going to be a very interesting final. I am ready for any surprises.
The surprise may be that Real Madrid's defense is not able to stem Liverpool's attacks throughout the match and that will make Real Madrid concede a lot of goals. Liverpool of course have big ambitions to take revenge on Real Madrid, if that is their mission then this season is the time in my opinion. I admit this is a very interesting match, so of course we won't be surprised which team will win because they both deserve it. But the number of goals is probably another thing that can be a surprise throughout the match.

Conceding a lot of goals? Do you expect a match with so many goals in regular time? Personally, I rather expect a very even game, where Liverpool tries to make the game and use its strong offense, and Real listens to counterattacks to successfully complete them through its strong midfield and Benzema. This is usually a constellation of very few goals in regular time.
469  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: May 14, 2022, 01:05:08 PM
Today all the games are at the same time and I only see 2-3 teams with important games. All the others are not important, so it's not about anything big. If you want to make a sports bet, maybe you should bet on many goals. The last matchday of the season, they will want to show they best, because of the transfer phase.
Yes, the most important thing when betting on the end of the season match is not to think of it as a normal match, because in the end of the season they might not play seriously. But for matches like Leipzig, Freiburg, Union Berlin, Koln, Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart can be good choices to bet on. Considering their position can still change if they lose and the team below wins then these teams will at least play well at least to maintain their position but I'm not sure about many goals for all matches.

Most positions in the league are fixed, nothing will change. The most interesting thing is whether Hertha Berlin or Stuttgart will have to go through relegation. In addition, it is still interesting whether Freiburg or Leipzig gets the fourth place and thus directly qualifies for the Champions Leauge and whether Cologne or Union Berlin qualifies for the EL. Everything else is in principle completely uninteresting.
470  Economy / Economics / Re: Who will Replace Russian Gas Supplies to Europe? on: May 13, 2022, 09:26:50 AM

Hungary and Slovakia say it will take several years to replace Russian oil without major damage to their economies because they are landlocked and cannot import oil by sea into ports, and are almost entirely reliant on Russian pipeline gas

a few days ago, the Hungarian and Slovak governments stated the above...

in fact, Europe has lived for years with Russian oil and gas so finding a replacement will take a lot of time and a lot of money. Russia's superiority in its oil and gas cannot be denied, the surrounding countries are already dependent on it so it is almost impossible to find a substitute for Russian oil and gas in the near future.

Yes, both countries are among the most dependent on Russian gas in Europe. But it does not have to last several years. Germany, for example, has reduced its gas dependence on Russia from 25% to 12% within a few months, with the goal of halving it again by winter.

471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you agree ETH have become seen as less risk asset over BTC? on: May 13, 2022, 09:15:20 AM
Do you agree?

No, Bitcoin has lost so much in the days because of Luna and TerraUSD. The "stablecoin" had used Bitcoin as a cover. Due to the massive collapse of Terra, Bitcoin which were bought to cover Terra had to be sold massively, which caused the price of Bitcoin to fall. If Terra had been backed by Eth, then Ether would have been hit hard and not Bitcoin. So I wouldn't say that Ether is the better investment.
472  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: May 13, 2022, 09:11:22 AM
If Erik ten Hag is to survive in Manchester United, 80 percent of the current players need to be overhauled. Manchester United need a long term to rejuvenate the team. Erik is going to need more than three years. I'm afraid the management will not want to give Erik that much time they will want instant result in a year or two.

Absolutely, that's what I am thinking, too. Ten Hag's success will depend on how quickly he can rebuild the team. With the current squad, you can't play at the top in the long term. Man United will definitely have to invest a lot of money. It's main problem in recent years has not been the coaches, but the players. But I fear that the squad can't be rebuilt fast enough for the new coach to succeed.
473  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Environmental groups urge US government to take action on crypto miners on: May 13, 2022, 09:02:42 AM
I don't really know the content of the letter or the background of the initiators and their real intentions. I am a strong Bitcoin advocate, but nevertheless there are developments in the USA regarding miners (also in other parts of the world) that I absolutely do not support, such as the fact that the Hardin coal-fired power plant in Montana was supposed to be closed, but is now still being operated because of Bitcoin mining. This is an absolutely alarming development in terms of the environment. If that's part of the content of the letter, I don't think it's a bad thing.
474  Economy / Economics / Re: Is TERRA/Luna kickstarting a new Bitcoin Standard? on: May 12, 2022, 09:17:13 PM
What we are currently seeing with Luna and TerraUSD is not the first time it has happened with algorithm-based stablecoins. Already a few weeks ago something similar happened with Waves and its stablecoin USDN. The parallels are clear. Terra was mainly backed by Luna and Bitcoin, USDN mainly by Waves. I am now convinced that algorithmically based stablecoins backed by crypto are not really stablecoins. They can be stable, but they can also deviate strongly from the original value and travel the whole crypto market into the abyss.
475  Economy / Speculation / Re: Panic People Are Selling BTC And Buying inflationary Fiat For Safety But They on: May 12, 2022, 08:56:22 PM
Many, especially the newer, investors are traders rather than ideologically driven long-term hodlers. They sell much faster, but are also ready to get back in at some point, so they see it more as a temporary exit until the panic is over. If you then hold fiat for only two to three months before moving back into bitcoin, then inflation is irrelevant, especially if bitcoin continues to fall. Currently, Bitcoin is losing a lot of value against fiat and is therefore affected by a lot of inflation, more than fiat. I say this as a long-term hodler.
476  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: May 12, 2022, 08:51:03 PM
Hm it is true that Freiburg did well in this season. I didn't expect from them that they would play such good gameplay in this season. But yeah, Leipzig is still good to play on champions league. Dortmund is not playing good what I expected from them.

The match is totally open. Team-wise, Leipzig is better. But Freiburg is playing a fantastic season and has a talented team and they have the momentum. Leipzig, on the other hand, was unfortunate to be knocked out of the EL and didn't perform well in the league after that. I would even slightly favor Freiburg.
477  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Bitcoin & die Steuer - FAQ on: May 11, 2022, 02:45:47 PM

478  Local / Altcoins (Deutsch) / Re: [Diskussion] - [WAVES]. Ultimative Crypto-Token Blockchain Plattform. on: May 10, 2022, 07:39:12 PM

479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Worth investing? on: May 10, 2022, 01:18:47 PM
Hype, momentum and marketing are much more important factors for the success of a crypto project, just look at Doge or Shiba. What I want to say is, don't worry about the technology if you want to see price increases for your investment.
How long are these factors expected to carry a project? Hype an momentum and fleeting qualities as there's always the next hype which comes up, and marketing tends to follow hype and trends.

It depends on how long such hype and momentum can be fueled. In the best case, such a thing can last for years. As already written, Doge and Shiba are very good examples. There are also others. In the case of Doge, this trend has been going on for a few years, even though Elon Musk is a strong promoter of it which helps much. With Shiba, it has been going on for a little more than a year now and it still works. From the technological side there are hundreds of better projects out there.
480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT could grow 35% by 2027 on: May 10, 2022, 01:15:14 PM
It is somewhat surprising how NFTs are increasing, we hope that in these 5 years in the future they will be able to spread more. With the news reflecting growing interest in the non-fungible token (NFT) space among current investors, new research predicts that the current $3 billion market size will reach $13.6 billion by the end of 2027.

Quote
In the next five years, the key factors linked to the global rise of NFTs will continue to be the growing involvement of influencers, gaming communities, and the growing demand for digital artwork.

-snip->

I find such articles and such predictions unserious. I remember well how in 2016 and 2017 during the ICO hype it was predicted that there will be massive growth rates until 2020 and that projects in the future will mainly also set an ICO. Already 2-3 years later, there was hardly anything left to feel. Currently, there are hardly any such ICOs. Previously, the same thing had already happened with so-called colored coins and the same will happen with NFTs.
