Ok guys i thought in this forum people wasnt totally stupid but damn. You guys dont realize that it was a joke? I mean some people did but the other half didnt so just to clarify THIS WAS A JOKE. Seems like all these ponzi posts had a negative effect on your brains wich is understandable

Well, you see, you can't take everything you read here at face value; notice that the vast majority of users who posted here fall under two categories: either they have paid signatures, and so, make btc by posting, no matter the content (or lack thereof) of the post; or they have less activity than their account can currently provide (their post count equals their activity), and so, they're likely taking the opportunity to correct that, before either joining their favorite signature campaign, or selling the account.

In other words: business as usual. Tongue

EDIT: if you really want to stop it, lock the thread.

I thought only God could make a tree Shocked

God? Is that another 3d graphics software? And can it make scarier looking trees? Mine just looks kind of bored. Still, I've been using Blender so far, and I'm pretty happy with it. Wink
1903  Other / Off-topic / Re: Trees and pictures of trees on: February 18, 2015, 03:18:38 AM
Are haunted trees welcome here? Smiley

This was the result of me following the blender tutorial: https://cgcookie.com/blender/cgc-courses/creating-spooky-tree - didn't turn out as scary as I had hoped, though. Tongue

Blz Pessoal.  Cool Cool

1905  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What does the Gov't really know about UFOs and ET's? on: February 18, 2015, 02:00:48 AM

I am a huge fan of anything scifi. I'd have loved to have an E.T. as a best friend when I was a kid, having fun in his flying saucer.

The fact is those aliens have no table manners.

Steak is good. I get it. I love meat. Why the heck would you drop your cow bones the way we find them? E.T. dude! Please! Curb your space doggy if you are not the one doing the eating. Millions and millions and millions of frequent flyer space points and you could not even convert some of them into buying this?

Grin Maybe that's just the ET pulling a dine and dash on us.

Hopefully unrelated to the above, I was just reading an article on NewScientist about a couple of cloud-like blobs that appeared over Mars in 2012. It seems no one knows for sure what they were: they extended well above the surface of the planet, up to 250 km; grew to about 1000 km across; remained there for over 10 days; and there seems to be no clue left on the surface that could perhaps help explain the phenomenon.

You can see one of the unidentified objects near the top-right portion of the image - in this case, the planet's southern hemisphere.

And again in the following image:

Does anybody know why ponzi schemes are still allowed? It's extremely obvious that this guy is here to just make what he can and leave.

Actually, it's extremely obvious that this guy is just kidding: 1337%, 13.37 days and 73.31% (leet); "super inverse martingale strategy"; two possible outcomes, so 50-50 chance; and the invalid address, spelling out "I will scam you".

Further, schemes and scams are not moderated in this forum; you have to do your due diligence.
1907  Economy / Digital goods / Re: 9 & 8 Year old reddits on: February 17, 2015, 08:28:53 PM
Yeah the 9 year old go for around .2-.3BTC each.

That's more than I would have expected, though I have no idea why someone would pay that much based merely on how old the account is. I would imagine the amount of karma the account accumulated would be of more importance - perhaps that would be worth adding to the OP?

Anyway, good luck with your business.
1908  Other / New forum software / Re: Like button idea ? on: February 17, 2015, 07:49:43 PM
If we had a 'like' button how long do you think it would take before people start selling 'likes'
As redsn0w said, maybe good to avoid the +1 post but not really useful.

No, I do not support this idea. If you want to have 'LIKE' button you can use Facebook. I do not use facebook and would not want that button here on forum.

I haven't read the other thread HeroC mentioned, but it is my impression that the "like" button won't actually influence what posts you are shown in a thread; it will merely show some sort of indication that others appreciated your post. Perhaps that could lead some campaigns to try and work with this new system, leading to "like" buying, but I don't see that the overall forum experience would be negatively affected by this.

I wonder if a more specific set of buttons would be a good idea though - instead of one generic "like" button, a few buttons, like: "useful post", "made me laugh", and so on.

Hello there, my name is jerry and im a proffesional trader and gambler for 10 years. I mostly play dice and i manage to win 73.31 % of the times even if the odds are only 50% using my super inverse martingale strategy.

There is no min or max invest, you can invest whatever you want, you might say this is a scam but think about it, there are 2 possible outcomes: either you get your money back or you dont, that my friends is a 50/50% chance of winning or loosing, better than most casinos

I'm afraid that's not how probability works. Tongue

Perhaps it is pure coincidence, right?  Wink

That would be a pretty awesome address; but unfortunately, I think he just made it up - it seems to be invalid.
1910  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iceland jails former Kaupthing bank bosses on: February 17, 2015, 02:31:32 AM
Do you realize that Iceland is only populated by little over 300.000 of people? It it easier to govern 300.000 people that 300.000.000 country. Also people tend to be less corrupted in smaller communities. I bet in USA big money can buy you freedom in almost every case. Most people who should be in jail are holding the position of power... How can we change it?

The way I see it, moving to remove or reform money in politics, would be a step in the right direction - that is, by greatly lessening or entirely removing the overwhelming influence large concentrations of power have over the political system, perhaps replacing it with public financing instead, as happens in many other countries. Now, that is certainly not a magic bullet to solve all problems in society, but I think it would make further changes in the interest of the majority of the people far easier.

I have often posted this, but here it goes again: there are already several groups seeking to do something along those lines - the guys at The Young Turks with Wolf-PAC (http://www.wolf-pac.com), and Larry Lessig with Mayday PAC, to name a few.
1911  Economy / Digital goods / Re: 9 & 8 Year old reddits on: February 16, 2015, 11:22:19 PM
Selling a few 8 year old reddits and one 9 year. Offer me in BTC

This reminds me: I have one such account, with which I have made only a couple of posts, and for which I probably forgot the password by now. Cheesy

Anyway, is there any added value for older accounts in Reddit? And out of curiosity, how much are you expecting them to fetch?
1912  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What does the Gov't really know about UFOs and ET's? on: February 16, 2015, 09:37:55 PM

I hate every single extra terrestrial life form living among us right now. Yes, including you, mister E.T. bitcointalk lover... You all think about this for a few minutes, then realize it is better no ETs have ever lived among us.

 Cool

Considering we know next to nothing about any possible extraterrestrials, including what their intentions towards us might be, I'm not sure anyone could reach an unequivocal conclusion that it is better no aliens live among us. On the other hand, I certainly see the value in being able to develop independently, and being afforded the possibility of making, and learning from, our own mistakes - though, realistically, not everyone is in a position of making such a choice.

At any rate, this reminds me of one of fortune's quotes: "you single-handedly fought your way into this hopeless mess". Tongue
1913  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What does the Gov't really know about UFOs and ET's? on: February 14, 2015, 05:32:52 PM
Show me the money? That's what I want to see. Never in history has there been a discovery that shows life elsewhere in the universe. Show me non-DNA life, or a piece of the space ship made from an unknown material. Until you have something like that the evidence for UFOs is the same as for unicorns.

While I agree with the main idea you present here, I would just like to point out that UFO means Unidentified Flying Object; not alien space craft, though many jump from the former to the latter for no good reason. As such, there are indeed UFOs - that is, events associated with unidentified objects that remain unexplained to this day - very few such cases exist, but they do exist.

Around 100 billion stars/suns just in our galaxy!! Between 100 and 500 billion galaxy's in the universe closer to 500 billion!! Please open you're mind that we are not alone the proof is in the math if you had a brain cell or two you could figure that out.

Possible earth like habitable planets in the universe 50,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 so i guess the chances are we are all alone  Roll Eyes

Yeah, but please do calculate how long it would take us to reach them !?
Even if we could travel at speed of light , we probably would die before arriving to another civilisation,
the only chance we can have is to build ships that would have eco-system and where few generations would pass, enabling us to explore much further.
That's the thing. Even if there were thousands or millions of civilizations it may take billions of years to reach the closest one. If our civ is any indication of normality then we may have to time it just right. Finding a point where they have technology but before they have destroyed themselves.

While I find the argument about odds has merit, we really can't say anything about other life in the universe since we have only one example.

You're right: it is problematic to draw conclusions based on so little information, as is the case for life in the universe - but, in a sense, aren't you doing just that? I mean, you believe the argument he presents has merit, but sort of dismissed it based on an anthropocentric view: not only do we not know what the future holds for humanity, and whether or not it will destroy itself, but also, we don't know if there is good reason for such danger to be common to all advanced species - personally, I think culture has a lot more influence than most attribute to it. Also, just because humans have so far been unable to devise workable ways to move at speeds faster than light, that doesn't mean it's impossible. And finally, there could be life forms whose biology allows them to survive in conditions different to what we have on Earth, effectively increasing the number of worlds that might hold life.

"Love Letters to Richard Dawkins": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW7607YiBso (7m30s). It's amazing how hateful some people can be - and, at least for me, made more amazing still by many of them thinking they hold the moral high ground, by virtue of nothing more than their belief on a fairy tale.

"Head to Head - Dawkins on religion": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0Xn60Zw03A (47m51s). This one is definitely more interesting; well worth the time, I think. Smiley
1915  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What does the Gov’t really know about UFOs and ETs? on: February 13, 2015, 01:40:59 PM
What we know from our own history is that when a more advanced civilization meets a less advanced civilization the last one suffers immensely, I think we can extrapolate this for the cosmic scale.

Don't know how rare Goldilocks planets are, but probably pretty rare, and so desirable, if a civilization with the capability of reaching Earth finds us, we're probably fucked.

That could well be the case - if we're visited by "human-like" aliens, we're probably fucked. Tongue

That said, just a couple of comments: worlds outside the Goldilocks zone can still have the conditions for life similar to what we know - tidal heating and radioactive decay could help environments keep liquid water outside the usually considered "habitable zone" - Jupiter's moon Europa, for example, might be one such world. So, "Goldilocks planets" are probably not uncommon, though many can still be hostile and uninhabitable for other reasons.

But more importantly, one of the problems with having only the example of life on Earth to start with, is that we don't really know how dissimilar other life might be: they might not share our requirements for habitable worlds; they might not even share most of our motivations and incentives; and ultimately, they might be either so alien, or so far more advanced, that we might not even understand what we're seeing for what it is - who knows, maybe they use the Earth, and similar worlds, as a sort of RPG. Cheesy

1917  Other / Off-topic / Re: learn programming on: February 07, 2015, 11:29:44 AM
@u9y42  While I don't disagree, I've found a lot of folks who *think* they want to learn programming, then they head to one of these learning sites where they aimlessly do exercises without really internalizing anything.  Having a goal is crucial, I think, to finding the answers to your coding issues.  In my case, one of my first programs was to print whether a number was prime or composite.  Because I wanted the program to run, I had a lot of motivation to keep looking up the issues I was having when my program failed.  I think a lot of folks want to want to learn programming (if you knwo what I mean) and having a goal and trying to acheive it is what separates those who want to from those who merely want to want to.

I guess you're right. I suggested Khan Academy largely because it offers an easy, sort of, "what you see is what you get" way of interacting with code; but that's probably not enough to keep everyone going, if they don't have a way to motivate themselves already - as you say, having in mind a simple task you want to complete, or game you want to make, is likely to both keep you motivated and give you an idea of what you need to, and what you want (or don't want) to explore further.
1918  Other / Meta / Re: Avatar on: February 07, 2015, 11:03:53 AM
I thought he was talking about just fixing it so avatars could be re-enabled.

Hmm, that was my impression as well. Smiley

I just went on to say that they did supposedly fix the issue, but that, in addition to the reasons you stated, they probably weren't really too sure everything was indeed working as intended, thus chose not to take the risk of re-enabling it - did I miss something? Cheesy
1919  Other / Meta / Re: Avatar on: February 07, 2015, 10:22:14 AM
Well it could but it was just decided not to bother for whatever reasons. Avatars aren't really a priority and they'll be back with the new forum anyway.

Can't a modification be made to the code to avoid that exploit ?

According to mprep, the code was indeed modified to avoid the exploit:

Q: Why doesn't the forum let me add an avatar?
A: The forum was hacked some time ago. It is thought that the avatars were used as a means of injecting malicious code into the forum. Even though the vulnerability was patched, the avatars will be disabled until a new forum software is released.

He didn't go on to say why the feature was not re-enabled in that post but, perhaps that was not done out of concern there could be other related vulnerabilities, as well as that being a low priority feature and the work being put towards the new forum software instead, as hilariousandco mentioned.
