1981  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: What is HYIP ? explain to a novice, please on: January 02, 2015, 08:06:30 PM
I highly recommend you read through our business model.

Come on, 425% after 60 days!? Grin

Quote
Unlike our competitors who offer extraordinary and impossible returns, we offer smaller time framed, daily payout plans that enable investors to have trust in where there money is going, and how it is being increased. We do not lie to our investors nor promise impossible returns that eventually turn the site to bankruptcy...We offer sustainable, transparent and realistic plans that our investors can rely on, every time.

You mean, your competitors offer returns even more impossible than what you're offering here? That, I find hard to believe. Cheesy

Anyway, who wants to bet how long this lasts? I'd say, less than 2 months by the look of it.
1982  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: What is HYIP ? explain to a novice, please on: January 01, 2015, 11:23:19 PM
I feel kind of sorry for everyone who posted in this thread. Go to moneymakergroup.com, and you'll see HYIP's are very profitable businesses for both the investors and the owners. Instead of being hard heads as calling them scams, why don't you all do research on the legitimate ones?

As others here mentioned, they are very profitable for those who start them, and those who are lucky enough to be very early investors - and quite unprofitable to everyone else. Remember, your profit has to come from somewhere, and in most, if not all cases, that is not from a legit business model, but rather taken directly from later investors; which would be less of a problem if they were at least honest about this.

Now, from what (admittedly little) I know from the moneymakergroup forum, people there try to invest in several HYIPs to mitigate losses, and then reinvest any profits on other HYIPs; so if a few go down, the profit from the others should still make up for it, and you can continue - maybe profitable for those who can do so, but the money still has to come from somewhere else, if it's not coming from the supposed business itself.
1983  Other / Off-topic / Re: ThePirateBay.se on: December 28, 2014, 09:00:13 PM
I've checked it via IE, doesn't work on Chrome for me.
It is counting up? (almost reached the number 20)

Almost; the counter's currently at 19 days, 21 hours, and 00 minutes. Smiley

Anyway, it seems that with all this, the number of Pirate Bay clones reached nearly 400, in just one week - but better still, it might spur the development of better, fully decentralized, open source alternatives.

This week, most of the Pirate Bay copies have been growing from Isohunt.to’s OpenBay project. Thus far nearly 400 Pirate Bay clones have launched and the people behind the initiative say that OpenBay is currently the most popular project on developer platform GitHub.

[...]

“Our current goal is to not only make it open source, but eventually provide a fully decentralized torrent database for the community,” they add.

I'll change my answer: I would have gone back in time and worked harder. But it's not too late now. I'll work hard now too.

Are you sure you want to work harder? Work smarter instead. Wink
1985  Other / Off-topic / Re: IS UFO or ALIENS are real ? on: December 27, 2014, 06:58:02 PM
there are aliens on the earth. There's creatures that can live in extreme environments that no other species would survive. We know that species can live in the deepest parts of the ocean that has no direct sunlight and live around holes in the ocean floor that speel out toxic gases. The deepest part of the ocean is near Japan and is 7miles deep can you believe it? thats why japan is nortrious for earth quakes and they eat weird food. Even if its Raw!!
Everything in the world can be habited by a species or organism even the most contaminated most poisons't ,filthiest, unimaginable place has them. Even if it requires a microscope to see the living thing. And you know the funniest thing? Humans often find microbes that has the keys to combating diseases in those unimaginable places.
Aliens are amongst us. But if they are found on earth there not seen as aliens....but they are

The creatures you're describing here are called extremophiles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extremophiles). These types of organisms can certainly survive, and indeed thrive, in extreme conditions most other forms of life wouldn't be able to handle; but they're not aliens - that is, you can trace their origins to "normal" organisms.

Of course, it could also be the case that we're all aliens, descended from some form of extremophile that survived the journey here from another planet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panspermia). Smiley

What do you mean by 50ms? ms means?

He means milliseconds: 1ms = 0.001s. So, 50ms would be 1/20 of a second, and 500ms would be half a second - probably not much of a problem in these types of games, if you're just playing by yourself.

Min is 5$ i could the favor to you.

I see - keeping to the same rate, I'll send 0.0152 for $5 Neteller then. Please post your btc address, I'll send that amount, and then I'll give you the email address for the Neteller transfer. Is this acceptable?

By the way, I can't help noticing your last couple of trades here haven't been very successful (according to your feedback history). I hope this one will go smoothly. Tongue
1991  Economy / Currency exchange / [WTS] small amount of BTC for Neteller [CLOSED] on: December 23, 2014, 04:12:44 PM
I need to buy something with Neteller, but I'm a little short. So, I would like to sell 0.01 btc for $3.3 Neteller, or equivalent in € (rate used is the current $330 per btc from BTC-e). Please post in this thread if you are interested.

PS: I'm not sure if there is a minimum amount for sending money with Neteller - if there is, and it is higher than the $3.3 I mentioned, do let me know and I'll send the appropriate amount in btc.
1992  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: December 23, 2014, 02:49:35 PM
When does the status of my Signature Campaign become not PYNC ? already made payouts this weekend.
You are moved from PNYC to Active after your first payment, but I need to know about it, else I cannot move you.

I will be updating this list once I'm done at work Wink

Hey mate , I was just wondering if there is any news about PrimeDice sig , I thought it started signature compaigns using about 50 BTC budget I'am pretty sure I saw that somewhere . thanks

The best place to ask this would probably be the thread used for the previous PrimeDice campaign: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=291387. However, I don't think anyone knows for sure when the new signature campaign will start - Stunna apparently noticed a bug in the system he was going to use, and that is currently being patched.

Was going to release today but realized a way people could exploit the automated payout system through deleting posts & reposting. It's a quick fix we'll have sorted ASAP.
1993  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why is European Union Fundamentally doomed... on: December 23, 2014, 02:30:42 PM
I think you should try and read my second comment again, this time with a more relaxed mind, there is more to it than what your comments suggest you've understood. All I'll say is that I don't use words randomly and that all my comments/responses are complete (by that I mean they contain all essential information and don't require follow-ups) Wink
The reason I don't wanna discuss this topic further is simple, it will not achieve anything. It is clear from your second comment that your understanding cannot realistically be challenged, it is not yet set in stone but I estimate my chances of penetrating your defenses to be less than 3%.  This means that writing pages of text, while time consuming, will have little to no effect. I believe however that you have enough material to work with (from our comments so far) in case you are genuinely curious  Smiley

Alright, hand-waving it is then - kthxbye. Roll Eyes
1994  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should dogs be citizens? It’s not as crazy as you think. on: December 23, 2014, 02:02:20 PM
Dogs would always vote like their masters told them to, so they can't be true citizens.
OTOH cats could be citizens, they have a mind of their own. Just look at my tomcat and say he doesn't deserve to be a citizen... Cheesy

[...]

Don't kid yourself - your cat wants to be part of the aristocracy, not a mere citizen. Wink

Anyway, your idea of dogs voting the same way their masters would reminds me of what was said of women in the past: "if you give women the right to vote, that will be unfair to unmarried men, because women will always vote the same way as their husbands or fathers".
1995  Other / Off-topic / Re: ThePirateBay.se on: December 22, 2014, 06:15:47 AM
Hey!

I know thepiratebay.se was taken down but I saw something interesting today.

Usually when I went to the site it never loaded, but today it loaded to a black screen.

When I took a look at the source, it had some isohunt source links, and adcash javascripts loaded.

Why is it back up?

TorrentFreak published an article about this yesterday: http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-domain-back-online-waving-a-pirate-flag-141221.

It doesn't reveal a lot more though; according to the article, the pirate flag seems to be hosted by IsoHunt's Open Bay site, but there has been no official answer as to what is going on behind the scenes. Smiley
1996  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why is European Union Fundamentally doomed... on: December 22, 2014, 05:29:06 AM
Delegating responsibility (to the 'ones at the top') has always been the primary means of mitigating guilt. It does not come as a surprise that your argument strongly supports possibility number one.

I'm under no illusion that there is no systemic component to the problem - that is to say, replace the "one at the top" with someone else, and you'll often still get the same outcome. But that doesn't invalidate anything I said so far: these policies are still not laws of nature; and they, and indeed society, have been changing as awareness increases. To give obvious examples: slavery and racism are no longer viewed as being acceptable; women can vote; popular participation in policy decisions is increasing; etc.. So, I fail to see how, in your view, my argument supports the idea that this will lead to an overcoming of individual free will through force (I imagine you mean, forming the equivalent of a totalitarian state) - that is, unless your idea of free will is doing any and everything you want, without having to deal with the consequences (like jumping out of a cliff and not having to fall). Tongue

Unfortunately it is impossible for me to further elaborate on my comment without challenging your fundamental understanding of the world. Proceeding past this point on an intellectual level will only lead to a dead end, it is unavoidable. From here you have to come to your own conclusions. Good luck! Smiley

That seems like a cop-out. Feel free to challenge my fundamental understanding of the world - I like to learn new things. But you'll have to make do with rational arguments, not hand-waving. Tongue
1997  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: December 22, 2014, 02:29:31 AM
Satoshi Bet has slightly increased the pay rate for Full, Senior and Hero Members. I changed that below, and also clarified the Miscellaneous section.

Satoshi Bet (Thread)
Payment period: Weekly
Minimum posts: 20 posts
Payments: L/H: 0.0004 BTC; S: 0.0003 BTC/post; F/M: 0.000175 BTC/post; J: 0.000085 BTC/post; N: 0.000055 BTC/post (Maximum 100 posts/week)
Escrow: No
Miscellaneous: At least 10 posts must be made in a Gambling related topic OR the Beginners & Help sub-forum. 15% bonus if you post in Local sub-forums (in the native language).

Still, not a very competitive rate, in my view. LuckyBit, for example, pays Senior Members 0.002 btc per post (up to 50 per month, 0.1 btc) - they pay less than 1/7 of that (though you can go up to 400 posts per month, 0.12 btc).

EDIT: Added and clarified a few more details.

EDIT2: Seems they increased the Hero/Legendary Member's pay again today - I've updated above to reflect this.
1998  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Elizabeth Warren and Nancy Pelosi are right on: December 22, 2014, 02:05:52 AM
There are moderate limits as to how much each person can give to individual campaigns. This prevents people from using their money to give undue influence on candidates. People can give much more money to more broader issues but these funds to not affect individual officials as much and as a result will not have influence on them.

You know there are several ways to bypass such limits - but if not, see a few examples here: http://www.usnews.com/opinion/economic-intelligence/2014/08/14/wall-streets-money-is-flooding-congress.

But out of curiosity, if you really, honestly believe candidates aren't under "undue influence" from big money interests, what's your explanation for, for example, the section dealing with the repeal of the Dodd-Frank derivatives rule (of which 70 of the 85 lines of text were, for all practical purposes, written by Citigroup). Now, I'm under the impression most people aren't happy about that section, so what happened - the people didn't pay them enough for them not to do it? Tongue

The vast majority of people can afford to give an "average" amount to a candidate they support and have their voice be heard

Such an "average" amount won't even begin to compare to how much they currently receive from wealthier donors - read the above link. Also, as the article I had linked in a previous post put it: reading that study, it's hard not to come to the conclusion that the US is pretty much an oligarchy. Again:

Quote
"The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organised groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on US government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence."

It's not like people aren't organizing and trying to make their voice heard - it's that they're simply not able to compete.
1999  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Elizabeth Warren and Nancy Pelosi are right on: December 21, 2014, 10:13:25 AM
In relation to political finance, there are several countries that have considerable amounts of public financing, in one or more of the forms it takes - Germany, Japan, Sweden, Israel possibly with the highest levels. Is there any reason why the US would not be able to function in such a model?
This puts ideas on too equal of a footing. If someone has a crazy left idea that no one is taking seriously under this model, the left would be able to present their idea to the public as of many people agreed with the idea enough so that they can advertise it's so called benefits that do not really exist

As opposed to the crazy right ideas that pass by unchallenged in the current system? Tongue

At any rate, as I said above, there are several methods of implementing public financing: some more receptive to crazy new ideas, some more conservative. And by the way, this isn't all or nothing: most countries allow some amount of private financing alongside public funding - though within limits, and all at a far less insane level than in the US.
2000  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Elizabeth Warren and Nancy Pelosi are right on: December 21, 2014, 01:27:52 AM
The entire population may not have a strong enough feeling towards a specific candidate or a specific issue in order for them to want to donate to a campaign. If both sides of an issue are putting out their own one sided story to the issue then everyone has an equal chance of hearing both sides. If you were to force people to spend money on campaigns then it would be essentially the public financing campaigns that may or may not have a chance of succeeding

The problem is that, as things stand, you're never going to get both sides of the story; politicians on the left and the right "hear" only the wealthy, and other large concentrations of power - those who "speak" the loudest - and follow policies that cater to them, not the population at large.

In relation to political finance, there are several countries that have considerable amounts of public financing, in one or more of the forms it takes - Germany, Japan, Sweden, Israel possibly with the highest levels. Is there any reason why the US would not be able to function in such a model?
