Thanks for the offer, mate, all of the stands at Amsterdam are going to be pretty much identical, the organisers want to provide stand displays for all the exhibitors. We will therefore need to be able to supply really good logos that can go to a fairly large print area without turning into pixelated poop, but I won't have any info about precise sizes for a week or two.
We will want some other good promo material, so feel free to get creative, for example on brochures, t-shirts, key-cords.....
I also have a slightly secret project, tho, I'll PM u some more info.


On the subject of conferences:
Got the bill for our 'contributing sponsor' registration from the Bitcoin Foundation. Do any members of our lovely new marketing committee want to take it from me and get it paid ?  (its €1500, u'll be happy to hear.)

Hmmm...the way I understand it (and I'm not saying that I've got a perfect understanding of NXT account security) is that an account is created with a 64 bit hash the first time a particular pass phrase is submitted to the NXT client and thus to the network/blockchain.
U can then transfer NXT into this account, but the full 256 bit hash is only created when u first transfer funds (even if it is only 1 NXT) out of the account, which is recommended for any account holding funds.

64 bit encryption is a lot easier to crack, obviously, which is why (supposedly) BCNext chose this mechanism to allow recovery of "lost" NXT in the future, ie NXT sent by mistake to an account with no set passphrase.

There's a reference in the thread above to a 1 megaNXT account with a 4 character password. Smells like FUD to me, but have a look for yourselves.....I'm going to carry on plowing thru this thread.

I'm tempted to be conservative and say 50:50, but that's not particularly realistic given that we are going to need to spend much more right now rather than in 6 months time.

How about 30:40:30 as follows:

30% goes out in the short term, 1-3 months.
Thereafter 40% or so over the next 9-11 months, trying to keep 30% as a rainy day fund.

On the BCNext/CfB issue: we're big boys and girls now.
The NXT community has taken the initial building block that BCNext gave us and built it up (with help from BCNext/CfB) into somethng very much larger, which has taken on a lfe of its own.
We shouldn't need much help from here on out, and remember: No gods, no kings....

Anyhow, back to conferences.

Spoke to the Bitcoinfoundation conference team and booked our 'contributing sponsor' slot (ie stand + 1 person + promotion) for a grand total of € 1500, which is around 40000 NXT right now.
They'll be sending me an invoice in the next couple of days, payment within 2-3 weeks, in fiat or (my preference) BTC.
(I should point here that I'm registered as a business here in NL, so I may be able to get the sales tax refunded on any costs we make in connection with the conference.)

Couple of points: I've stressed that we need a stand with some form of sunlight for the RaspPiSolar, the conference people (who are, so far, totally interested in NXT, btw) think it's a brilliant idea and are going to help as much as possible with stand placement.
Apparently the entire crypto world is going to be attending, this is shaping up to be the biggest BTC conference ever organised (according to the over-worked organisers):

We need some headliners from NXT and we need serious budget. The way things are going with NXT progress, this could be one of the events that will push NXT into the really big time.

We will also need some definitive, high-quality logo designs soon, to pass on to the BTC conference team to be included in their conference promo material.

TL:DR:
Booked stand, need money + speakers + logos.

They can bring their desks. We can call it a live coding event.....

Yup, they are scary numbers. We could go cheaper, but this is a serious event and we don't want to be sitting outside the venue with a guitar and a dog on a string. (Metaphorically speaking).
We need to make a professional impression, a stand is the best way to go even if it does cost a fortune. But, hey, we can finally get a RaspPiSolar running at a conference, so look on it as an investment.

Also good news, the videos this guy will produce will show the whole world (well,Youtube) how brilliant we are , again a good reason to invest the money. Whatever we put into the A'dam conference will be seen (and influence people) long after the conference is over.

More good news....I have a feeling that McJavar could be the serious technical monster we need to give our little team some depth.
Anyone actually spoke to him directly about it ?

@MikesBMW: We are gonna need all kinds of help on this, so if u want to commit, come on in!
I think me and Damelon have the basic stuff under control at the moment, but any extra ideas are welcome.
Main thing we need is willing people, so welcome on board.

It would be a good idea for all the A'dam/NL team to get together before the conference, maybe at one of the local Bitcoin meetups.
I also really want to have a promo Tesla Roadster outside the conference, with maybe a competition to win a ride in the little monster.

  Standalone registration: €370-€415 per person.

  RaspPiSolar: €250-€300

  Clothing: €250-€500

  Publicity material: €250-€500

The above is just a very rough estimate, particularly on the promo material and clothing costs.
Need to pick Salsacz brain, find out how much they spent in Berlin.

Anyhow, the rough estimate comes out to between:

€2620. For just 2 people, cheapest possible options on everything.  68,050 NXT

all the way up to:

€4045. For 4 people, most expensive options. 105,064 NXT
(NXT @ $0.053 = €0.0385)

This is not including the costs of any giveaway or special promo actions.

These are fairly big numbers, Salsacz has indicated that we have 20,000 NXT available immediately from the Marketing fund, but we are obviously going to need a lot more.

And we are going to need people most of all.

Especially tech types who would be willing to give a talk or take part in a panel. Myself and Damelon can probably put on a nice song and dance routine, but we don't have the in-depth knowledge of NXT ( and crypto) to impress serious industry players.

I'd also like to have a relatively professional video maker/reporter blogger film some NXT reports from the conference, particularly if a serious NXTer is giving a speech/panel.

The atomic cross-chain bounty is a private initiative, totally outside the committee structure. Just a whale who wants to see it implemented, and has the NXT to make it happen. So none of that 3-5 megaNXT comes out of the community funds.

Damelon is working with a design bureau on a streamlined house style for NXT, see above.

Yep, it'd be good to have more merchants on board with NXT in it's current first gen form. We need more marketing and more payment systems........might come back to this later.

On the Tesla: I dont expect Tesla to want to get paid for cars in NXT, can't see that happening right now. Maybe in a month or 3....
But maybe we could get Tesla to do some co-operative marketing with NXT.
Having a NXT branded Tesla at a conference full of Bitcoin/dollar rich venture capitalist types wouldn't be a bad thing for Tesla, at all.
If I go further with this, I'll get in touch with Tesla here in A'dam.
