1543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 08:57:19 PM

Cut...

What the buggery....?

Elitist ?

Just because we're trying to build something with a little bit more frigging ambition than mine, pump, dump, repeat ?

It's been said before, but NXT is for everyone.
If L+F (or anyone else) wants to concentrate on NXT as a first gen crypto, then he's got all the room in the world to do so.
2nd gen features do not explicitly exclude all of the simpler first gen stuff.
Maybe L+F could set up a first gen workgroup/posse to concentrate on the promotion and use of NXT in the first gen space........?

nxt is for geeks, not for average joe.

at least with pump and dump something is happening to the price and even small stakeholders can have some profit. with nxt only early stakeholders founders can profit.

There are approximately 187 crypto-currencies on coinmarketcap.com right now, most of these can be pumped and dumped, and I'm sure that absolutely none of them have any sort of early stakeholder issue.

So why are u hanging around here whining like a little bitch, Elmo?

Fatih, marti, minnow.....+10, guys, keep up the good work.

@ everyone else:
Anyone want to build a RaspPiSolar for A'dam conference?
Please......coz there is no way i'm going to find the time to do it myself.
1545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 08:32:10 PM
Here's a reminder: Don't forget your target audience, the average crypto investor.

This is an assumption.

One that I don't share, by the way.

Umm.. OK.

Obviously this project is for the "elite" of the tech world.

Thanks for reminding why I don't even bother to come here anymore.

Disappointing to see such a great project / idea turn into such an elitist mentality.

What the buggery....?

Lots cut....

Users of Wesley's client that sign transactions client-side will have their privacy compromised without SSL, even though the transactions and their password will be secure (assuming he is verifying the bytes before signing). I do see the value of SSL in this use case, because it is much simpler for the end user than setting up tor, and we are targeting users who presumably are not sophisticated enough to be running the Java server themselves.

My opinion was that SSL is not needed, and in fact cannot be used, for communications between nodes, and also that we cannot distribute an SSL certificate with the Nxt package itself. But for communications between thin clients and a public node, SSL is easier than tor for the end user for the purpose of preserving privacy - that is, from a spying ISP or government, not from the owner of the public node itself.

Can I summarise the SSL situation as:

No SSL on nodes. Not needed.

SSL on forums/wiki may be useful, if only as security theater.

Wesleys client must have SSL in order to function securely. http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/

Correct me if i'm wrong.

@jl777
if you need cash for servers, come knock on InfComs door.....

@Opticalcarrier;
I'm quite happy for u to submit a request for funding for SSL on forum and wiki servers.

Let's just employ Adam B Levine as our spokesperson. He's as good as it gets.  Wink

I'd rather have him continue to speak from a person's building a project on top of Nxt perspective and/or from a Nxt investor's perspective.

If his project is successful and/or his investment is profitable...  you got yourself a lifetime spokesperson!!!     Wink

I'd have to let you make me your spokesman, and as mentioned in other places I'm not picking sides.  I think there is huge potential in all the metalayers and I want to help all of you succeed as much as possible.  The future is big and roomy, lots of room for multiple projects and communities to work on these ideas in parallel and since the whole thing is open source it is merely quaint competition rather than antipathy driven.

Regardless, you can buy air-time on my program (as NXT did two months ago, and I think Kris has been doing great work with it) if you want to keep NXT in mind for people tuning into LTB or the other shows on our network.

But you can't buy me Smiley  You can only demonstrate that you'll looking for ideas that solve problems instead of ideas that reinforce an arbitrary leaders ego.   I think NXT has a damn good chance of that simply because ya'll don't have leaders.

I'd highly recommend as many NXTers as possible read the book "The Spider and the Starfish: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations" - You guys have an "apache" or "na'taan" model of leadership, you just don't know it so it doesn't work too well.

NXT is like the beast with a thousand arms and no head.  Difficult to organize, but with many resources at its disposal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dzK-0wB-CA

You are absolutely right. Can you come to our own new forum http://107.170.117.237
to visit or set up your own thread? I think members will have more serious conversation over there. Thanks.

Just to repeat myself.....no gods, no kings, just NXT

Nxt will feature two pages in the book called Cryptocurrency "The Alt-ernative" the Beginner's Reference

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483187.new#new

Please donate to the below Nxt wallet address in order to help fund this project:

14081530087791934508

It will have 2 pages similar to this:

deleted.....

If you spot any spelling or grammar errors, these are easily sorted.  I do have a full time job as well as trying to get this project completed too.

Sorry, mate , I have absolutely zero faith in your book project. If it turns out that u ever get pages out, I might buy in, but asking for donations for a couple of pages in an unpublished book is simply an update of the classic business listing scam.
1550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 07:29:00 PM
is NXT a scam plan, like Labcoin?
Yes.
Pleae send me all of your BTC at the address below.
(or u could read some of the thread, and figure it out for yourself)

I think l8orre is a good example of a speaking developer, he is going to speak in Amsterdam, but he is also a develeper of one of the Nxt clients Smiley And he did excellent job in Berliner conference, when we were talking about Nxt there

Putting on my conference organiser hat:

I'm getting the feelng that the BTC Conf. guys aren't very keen about l8orre speaking there.
The NXT logo for our sponsor slot, and the request for a speaker slot for l8orre (+bio, photo and speech abstract) were all submitted at roughly the same time. The logo went up immediately, but I've seen/heard absolutely nothing about the speaker slot. I'll hassle them a bit more on Monday if nothings happened by the end of the day.

Just checked my mail, speaker slot request was 13/3, logo went in a day later.
http://bitcoin2014.com/

Chances are good they're handled by different people, and they're disorganized.  I wouldn't take it personally.

Yeah, I know what conferences are like. But I like stuff to happen smoothly, and I've seen several new speakers go up since i put l8orres request in.

I really am going to bed now...... Wink

AM, of course,.....I was busy elsewhere during the whole AM thing, how do i read it?

Go here first: http://127.0.0.1:7876/

If that doesn't work, try this: http://127.0.0.1:7876/message.html

I think you have to be on the 0.8.x NRS to do this.

Even if you're on 0.7.x try it anyways, and it may work.

Thanks, mate, turns out AM didn't work for me behind my firewall. Got it working (Finally) on a node outside the firewall though.

Does anyone know why my balance is showing 0 in my nxt wallet after updating to 8.11? thanks
Is your blockchain fully up-to-date?

Hi EvilDave, that was me. I sent you an Arbitrary Message (with an unencrypted message) not a payment.

I just got ....nothing.

Someone just took the trouble to send me absolutely no NXT.....I'm confused.

Nxt is in dared need of a 100% trust forum. Im wondering how long it will take until we get one. I believe community fund should fund a forum to get thing structure a bit. It good to be decentralized, but not desorganized.

I'm setting one up now and if opticalcarrier agrees it can be the new forums.nxtcrypto.org:

http://107.170.117.237

Can we get an SSL cert for it?  They are actually very cheap, I believe even free for a single server cert wwith startSSL.  If you order it with nxtcrypto.org domain then I will do the email part when it comes in.

But I wish I could get a domain-wide wildcard cert donated from infrastructure committee.  But they refused the request. So, JLP/CFB, please tell me your opinion on these light clients with client side signing, when they connect to VPSs, are SSL connections needed?  If so I will just disable SSL on all my VPSs and we can just forget about SSL altogether.

Except for forums  And also I wish we could get one for wiki, but the infrastructure commitee deems it unnecessary there as well.
Optical:
J-L has already pretty much removed HTTPS support from the NRS, and InfCom simply can't see the point of SSL certification, except as security theater, on NXTwork nodes.

And we haven't even debated the SSL cert for the wiki, Marcus03 said that he couldn't see the neccessity, but that wasn't exactly a debate. Convince us....

https://bitbucket.org/nxtinfrastructure/committee/issue/20/ssl-certificate-for-nxtcryptoorg
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=506757.msg5769027#msg5769027

Personally, I'd be happy to approve €68 for wiki protection, if it's actually necessary.

I do want to hear more input about SSL: yes or no, just not right now.

@sebastien: Technical committee should be Technical Development, and I would prefer if u removed the word "proposals" from all 3 forum section titles.

Changed Smiley
If you can get me a short description of the activities of the IC (and maybe even TechDev) I'll put it there, too.
Just the names is not enough, imo.

Thanks, makker.
Yep, I'll post an InfCom mission statement in a while, want to get a bounty announcement ready to go as well, so that's first.
Well, coffee is first, then I'll put the bounty ann. together, then post it and an introducton, so u can leave it in my capable paws.

Whay aren't u in bed, btw?

@EvilDave
There is an error in your post, I did not made the forum, it is wesley, the quote is not good. Damelon is an admin too. However, I have post my concern about missing a forum and wesley seem to have take very nice serious action by creating the forum shortly after. That explain why my name get on your post (I was quote by wesley). You might want to edit your previous post. I therefore cannot edit the board name on the new forum.

I am very happy with the creation of the new forum. Or course that will speed up the development of Nxt. I'll try to push people to use it when I see the opportunity.

@Damelon; all of the above, please.

@sebastien...ooops. Roll Eyes
Have to give my props to wesleyh, then. Anyhow: keep up the good work with the forum promotion.

I have about 10 projects I'm working on in the user-created-asset space - If I were you guys, I would set up a long term, outcome oriented bounty program.  Here's what I suggested Invictus do with their 10% of their 5 million US dollar warchest to build the comunity

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=3448.msg43334#msg43334

If you guys had something like that, it would be more compelling for people building projects to pick your platform and compete for the prize.  It also is in their best interest to start building as soon as possible because its a race that's already started.   There are a lot of options out there, if you create a predictable, rewarding environment for people to build on you'll be very attractive.

Hey adam. I really like that idea. We should put our commitees on that!

It makes a ton of sense to me, you guys have lots of funds right now but don't know how to spend them.  This lets you use them as medium and long term incentives, happy to answer questions if you guys need any ideas for how this should work.  adam@letstalkbitcoin.com

+1. We have 3 committees in place, for Marketing, Technical Developmant and Infrastructure. the original remit of all 3 was to simply react to plans proposed by the community, but I think that the committees could take a more active role by setting bounties for specific projects.

If I ever stop posting here, I'll be putting up a bounty announcement shortly for papers on NXT security and attack vectors, in my role as InfCom spokesbeast:
 https://bitbucket.org/nxtinfrastructure/committee/issue/36/attacks-countermeasures

@sebastien: Technical committee should be Technical Development, and I would prefer if u removed the word "proposals" from all 3 forum section titles.
