really need 267K NXT
5708493317559318384

I believe you lost some NXT someway as well?  Unfortunately 267K NXT is waaaay more than I can afford to personally send. If we can get some donors on board I would be more than happy to facilitate again.

I'm willing to donate a little more.  Hopefully, others will make the decision to join in.

We're not just building software, we're building community.  Or so I'd like to believe.

I sent 500 directly to sparta_cuss. If someone feels like sending directly to the victims you can also do that.

What is the maximum number of characters for an Nxt passphrase?

C'mon dudes, drop a number on me.  I want to max this out.

Come on. I have a 20 character pass and I feel fine. If you can do truly random 40 character pass. They will bruteforce until the end of this universe to find your pass.

whats the status CfB are we all supposed to create new accounts and send our money over there even if we had the original 0.4.8 client just because earlier clients could have been hacked too or is it for the paranoid only?

i know its up to me, but what other members have done? share your pick. its a bit costly to send them to a new acct..

Check the integrity of your client first. Compare the checksum hash256 of the zip file to the one in the first page. If it matches, then you're safe.
1724  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 11:04:09 PM
It is not a good strategy to put the success or failure of a 100 million usd project in the hands of one person... If nextern can't deliver the client for whatever reason, there is no chance for a mass adoption. And the other projects are also developing. Like the asset exchange for btc announced today.

Btw, I am currently developing a closed-source Windows client. Right now, I am working on the blockchain explorer part, since this is what I want personally, but eventually it will have all mainstream features like seen in the web client. It might not be the silver bullet, but it might suit some. I will post when I have something to show and download.

I would really like to see others starting developement of other clients and less nexern bashing.

Love it, marcus03. I imagine Bitcoin community at the beginning would also have this kind of attitude. Bitcoin have at least 3 main clients, so I don't see why NXT does not have several ones. The more diverse, the better. that is the only way we can compete squarely with Bitcoin cartel.
1725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 10:40:09 PM
I can't comment much on technical side, But wesley's implementation of Chrome and Firefox plugin are

Chrome : nxt space alias and
Firefox : nxt : alias

I personally prefer nxt space alias and also nxt : alias cannot be implemented in chrome so I left it nxt space alias as an universal approach.
1726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 09:29:51 PM
Is anyone going to use Arbitrary Messages within next 2 weeks? It seems to me that without a client that supports this feature we don't need AM.

I realy do respect your work sir, but without a client you better stop loosing your time here.

No one will bother using API strings etc... no client = no product.

and yes eMunie is a finished product that will blow all your efforts away just becaus you will always be second!

LOL at that stupid attempt to emulate stable currency. Nothing to talk about. Really .
1727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 08:17:16 PM
So for this has been a utter joke. Alpha status at start. Client hacked no trustworthy d/l available. Main dev off to make his own coin at some point in future. ah comon what is this shit?

I don't now if I should cry or laugh. But this is total comedy central. It is better than TV shows.
We pulled 21 bitcoins, because nobody else wanted, so we rule. Go buy now NXTs for 0.10 US cents now!!! Go!!! Get alsiases from us, extensions to web browsers. Cool thing, then you can spam them Russian style /viagra-cialis-casino/, We traumatized google with this for about the decade and made money. Also we have some secret projects going on...
....600 pages about how things cannot be done, because of "this and that"....

I have nxt thanks. Don't comment much but when I do I will point out some retarded shit.

You are free to sell.
1728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Thread: Main on: January 02, 2014, 07:46:08 PM
We still need to trust in individuals, otherwise nothing get done.
No, we don't. After some reading everyone can slowly of faster analyse opensourced code. After some reading everyone can check checksums and understands what cryptography brings to the table. Transparency, honesty inside big community of learning people annihilate need of personal trust with time. Everyone'll know how everything works around him, what to expect including all kinds of risks (like bogus downloads) and how to deal with it. And with centralization of any kind, Oruell's "1984" slowly comes into our lives. U'll be told with authority what to think pertty soon if nothing changes.

Agree  you can trust individuals being honest and transparent otherwise y don't need to trust anything else.
1729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 07:22:53 PM

yes! and we will do.
i am just adding the last components for the explorer (alias search), cleaning the codebase
and finalize the explorer. it was planned to add some more features (filters/pagination/charts/mining calculator)
but i think these are not so important, as long the main funktion is working properly. this can be done
later and is on my todo list. i see the explorer more than a community asset than a personal project.

tomorrow i am starting the client/asset-exchange fulltime, which means much more output from my side.
the asset exchange is the most difficult part (async api/data storage/charts/order matching/different instruments
like shared revenue, options, bonds etc.) but once fully functional all other services can be plugged in very fast.
i guess much faster than other competitioners. the first beta should be ready in ~3 weeks (which is very sporty),
ready to check heavily via testnet. if no major bugs are found the final is planned 1-2 weeks later and yes, competition
is good, have no problems with that.  Grin

btw, happy new year!

you are the man. Money, reputation and (girls) are waiting for you Smiley
1730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Thread: Main on: January 02, 2014, 07:15:47 PM
Seriously, how do you think the one party who is allowed to be the BTC/NXT gateway will price his/her services?  With no competition the NXT exchange, as a whole, could very likely suffer from monopolies on assets like BTC, USD and gold.

One party will pay 1000 NXT to issue an Asset within the NXT Asset Exchange, which will be a BTC/NXT gateway.

Another party can also pay 1000 NXT to issue a DIFFERENT Asset within the NXT Asset Exchange, which can also be a BTC/NXT gateway.

Either you and the others raising these concerns have a misconception of what an Asset is OR I need to do a lot of homework!   Smiley

Fair enough. Thanks.

smaragda is correct. Anyone can be BTC/NXT gateway if he wants. Actually I would rather have mBTC/NXT gateway. Just one more thing, it would be extremely difficult to get a market going. Ripple has been here for years with huge backing and it is going no where. Regardless how many BTC/NXT gateways are there in NXT asset, I for one would be extremely difficult to be persuaded to buy one BTC from you. If want BTC I would rather go for the real thing at coinbase or BTC-China or bitstamp.

I would definitely buy virtual high performance CDs though  Wink.

Wait until you win big and the issuer defaults Smiley

Anyway, I prefer having this thing done right to rushing to get to the market. People can have a taste of individual issuing tokens by burning their bitcoin first. Who survives at the end
depends very much on implementation.

Yeah, I agree.  Competition is good for both projects.

That, and we get to see their mistakes and thus can avoid them ourselves.

More distributed exchanges would also be good for crypto worlds in general. Easier to promote both. People have to unlearn many habits and adopt new habits. The more places for them to do so the better.
1733  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 06:13:30 PM

This depends on how fast nexern will release the client. Which in turn depends on if we can pay him for vacation.

Can't make him quit his job, especially at such a short notice. He told me he does not need the money right now.

Blocks Generated   :   3933
Fee Earned   :   60,718 NXT

this is a nicer hack  Roll Eyes

just before source release.. great!!

devs, please take a look into this ASAP, that person just generated another block.  They are obviously gaming the system somehow.  The balance on that acct has never been very high, yet they forge TONS of blocks

all,

remember....

Actually there will be 3 flaws in the source code.

How fast it is ? It is 50 million account and perhaps it is the only big account forging.
1736  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 03:02:45 PM

The fact is that the stolen NXT from all five of these guys is sitting stuck in the five thief accounts and it can't get converted to BTC without going thru Dgex.   That ain't gonna happen.

This is a major crime in the tens of thousands of dollars range and we know who did it.  People go to prison for years for this kind of crap.

(Are you reading this, EpicThomas?  I know you are.)

You know, if the NXT were somehow to be magically transferred back into the accounts where it is supposed to be, maybe just maybe I won't personally make it my mission to find your home address and phone number, post it right here on this forum, and call the police in your local town or city.

Do you feel lucky, punk?

A MESSAGE TO EPIC THOMAS:

Dude, I'm coming for you.  You had better put back the NXT where it belongs before I find out who you are and go to the police.  I will stop if you repay the NXT you have taken from others.  Once I find out a name and address and turn it over to law enforcement, things are out of my hands.  Until that time you can save yourself.  Do it.

My email to customer service at Digital River:

Can you identify the real name, email address, mailing address, and telephone number of the user renting a cloud server from you at 162.243.246.233 for the past several days?  This person is involved in illegal activities and has stolen over $23,000 that we know of so far through  unauthorized transfers of assets.  When you have obtained this information, please let me know the name and location of the representative who may be contacted by local law enforcement.

This is not a prank or joke.   My name is X.  I am a resident of X and you can contact me at my cell number of X if needed.  Thank you, and I look forward to your prompt response.

Thanks ricky. This effort is of a great benefit for the community.
1737  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 02:01:59 PM
OK, a summary of that we know so far:

The smoking gun points to EpicThomas, and kudos to LiQio for finding the smoking gun.

Go to the Google cache page LiQio found below, then hover your mouse over the link where EpicThomas says "NRS 0.4.8 is ready and can be downloaded from: http://info.nxtcrypto.org/nxt-client-0.4.8.zip".  The mouseover link that appears goes to http://162.243.246.233/nxt-client-0.4.8.zip even tho the blue text of the link says http://info,nxtcrypto.org/nxt-client-0.4.8.zip.

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:x1fHlORdUIEJ:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php%3Ftopic%3D345619.11820+&cd=1&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de

EpicThomas then later edited his post and CHANGED IT BACK to the correct client.

The 0.4.8 losses were first reported by Sparta_cuss (147K NXT), then PaulyC (8K) , then newcn (18K), then plasticAiredale (19K).  The 0.4.8 losses we do know of came in a 8 minute window:

Time   Victim   Vic Account   Thief Account   NXT

01.01.2014 12:56:54   plasticAiredale    8439060069775407509   15182566201738727933   18665
01.01.2014 12:58:03   PaulyC   16821029889165561706   16204974692852323982   7808
01.01.2014 13:01:45   newcn   16886318053889080545   9793828175536096502   18197
01.01.2014 13:05:06   sparta_cuss   11794318797680953099   12152013998194592943   147690

There may well be more 0.4.8 losses that haven't been discovered or reported yet.

There may have been losses from earlier clients before 0.4.8, as first reported by Framewood on  December 27, 2013, 06:26:16 PM.  If so, here is the first reported loss:

Time   Victim   Vic Account   Thief Account   NXT

26.12.2013 17:09:30   Framewood   697109629372813510   13643712185318669838  100088

Total reported losses so far are 292,448 NXT worth around 28 BTC or over $23,000.

There's got to be more.  Keep digging.

More evidence. The ip address where the bogus client was stored  belongs to EpicThomas, the same as epicdices.com

no, as I wrote here, we know identity of the hacker:

162.243.246.223 looks like it is "epicdices.com" (http://domain-kb.com/www/epicdices.com)

Sorry if I'm the 1 millionth person to ask but... source?

Tommorow

Ah, I see now.  I didn't realize it was pushed back a day.  Thank you.

Nah it was not pushed back. Always intend to be released on 5th Bitcoin birthday January, 3.

Let's keep the historical record straight here.  sparta_cuss reported this before PaulyC, and sparta_cuss was immediately blown off by CfB:

Hey, looks like I just got robbed, too.
Someone please check this account: 12152013998194592943
They now have 147k+ from me.
Had a 40 char random password, capital, lower, numbers, symbols.
WTF?

Don't forget Framewood, too.  Please notice the date and how little the community paid attention.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4172532#msg4172532

This bears repeating:

Please notice the date and how little the community paid attention.

Yeah unfortunately at the time it was a one time thing, made by a Jr. Member so everybody probably just figured it was user error, plus he didn't raise much of a stink after. Doesn't justify it, but probably explains it.

Currently it looks like EpicThomas only was able to get a few accounts. Hopefully now people will be more vigilante with downloading new clients. But if there is no official client, or at least one endorsed by CFB how do we even know if the posted hash is the one for the client that isn't hacked. Who else can we trust?

We have three groups of core developers: BCNext, CfB and Luc. Luc will release new clients from now on. He just posted the 0.4.9 client and I am running it right now.
1740  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 01:30:44 PM
what i mean is if i want to download bitcoin official client i simply visit bitcoin.org
and same with litecoin.org and there are many others.

is there any official website for NXT?

There is no official website for NXT. Unlike Bitcoin and Litecoin, Nxt is supposed to be decentralized.

Apologies if I get some of the words wrong (as some people seem to be sensitive to terms being misused)

I think this is more about establishing and maintaining 'trust' in a decentralised environment where everyone is a peer.
The network does this for the transaction I think.
How do you extend this to the software that people use to initiate the software on the network is trusted and valid.
Cant this be done also by consensus - perhaps trusted people can test clients and submit a transaction signing the sha256 for the client
the more people sign a client the more it is trusted, the amount of trust generated relating to the stake of the signer.

I don't know if this has any legs.

Otherwise how will other clients ever get trusted after what has happened and the ease with which java can be recompiled, modified and repackaged is a concern.

In some ways its good  this has happened now (although I feel for those affected) and is driving this debate, someones greed has undone them because if this type of attack had happened later the damage could have been far worse in terms of people affected and NXTs reputation.

NXT foundation does not claim to be a sole organization that represent NXT. As long as NXT foundation is trusted then it can be used for the source of trusted information. Currently official information come only from Luc or Cfb. If CFB do not think it is centralization, then I don't know what is.
We still need to trust in individuals, otherwise nothing get done.
