Yes, this is one of the biggest problems. It disrupts the whole idea of equality, fairness and stuff But it can be changed I don't know how at the moment. Maybe the fee should be divided equally to everyone? That would attract more users. I agree, but the problem is that if I have a million NEM, I could open up 1,000,000 NEM wallet and put 1 NEM in each and receive 99,999,999 more share of the fee than everyone else. I don't see how we could get around that a side from rigid account control or minimum balance, but even then, people would find way around that. I think the most frustrating part of NXT for small account was to see the next block could be forged in 325 days 12h 22min. I didn't look at the NXT code yet, so I don't know if this is possible, but if we could introduce fraction, we could pay divide the fee amongst all NEM user based on the ratio of money the have. So, i we divide 1/4,000,000,000 we get 0.00000000025. This mean that for each NEM of fee, every user would receive 0.00000000025 NEM for each NEM they own. If we decide that the smallest unit is 0.00000001 NEM, we would then have to wait until 40 NEM in fee has been collected before distributing 0.00000001 NEM to everyone for every NEM that they own. Anyway, just an idea Cheers OMG your idea is even worse than mine This way you don't even have to create 1 million wallets to get the coins:) Cheers I wouldn't worry much about NEM forging problem even if we have an exact forging implementation. In NXT, most forging fees go to accounts with 10 millions and up (out of 1 billion), especially with few 50 million accounts ; NEM won't have a problem with big accounts thanks to the initial distribution design. That's being said I don't think forging design is a problem with NXT. There are problems somewhere else but still I am a NXT ambassador so ...

Now late night question. I want to run an ad about NEM to bring more people to us. Options? Let's talk bitcoin? Coindesk, bitcoin magazine? Or even forbre, business insider ?
as xtester says, the answer should be based on what kind of people you are looking for and that should certainly include people from outside the established crypto community. In any case you will need an intriguing slogan to hook their attention - one that makes people want to know more rather than tell them everything upfront. A possibility could be: Liberate your purchasing power with the New Economy Movement Or Do you want to liberate your purchasing power? Or Help liberate the purchasing power of the free world - Join the New Economy Movement today Yes it should depend on target audience. I am still tweaking the front page because I want perfection in wordings and represent exactly what NEM aspires to be. Suggestions welcome.

I want to have nemcoin.info and nemcoin.com up before the media campaign but that is not absolutely necessary.
Why do we even need 2 ? Wouldn't it be better to have one which would also enable people to focus on making that one awesome instead of creating 2 potentially not as awesome ? One up is fine. My thought is that nemcoin.com could have more commercial potential, meanwhile nemcoin.info would focus on development updates. I actually have phase 3 media campaign ; but it is secret ingredient for now.

Update: Hey I updated the stakeholder list to page 85, now we are close to 1500 stakeholders and should pass that mark pretty soon.
I also added some explanations there to make my stakeholder's list work transparent. Your post in the registration thread is the proof that you belong to the list or not. Since page 81+ I have to check the sending addresses so it takes a bit more time. The next update would be tomorrow.
There are also more explanations to the development stake sheet; Now I only put a name on a dev stake when I am absolutely sure that a dev stake would go that way. So many dev stakes would only be allocated very close to the genesis block.
At the current rate it'll take roughly a month (29 days) till there will be 4000 stakeholders. Would you say that's a sensible timeframe for the release of the genesis block? Registration pace could slow down a bit due to higher fee until the media campaign kicks off. The thing about media campaign is that I think we truly have something interesting to tell; not just because we want some crypto sites to pump us up. Additionally I want to reach out to many other people outside the core crypto fan bases. 4000 stakeholders is maximum and I think I would like to see at least 2000 stakeholders. So the final number could be somewhere between. Now on the development front, things are going very well I like this type of parallel development; we develop the tech and develop the community and user base at the same time and that could save a lot of valuable time in this competitive crypto market. There are some news in the pipeline, so stay tuned. There will be a time frame announcement in the near future but not now. Nemcoin.info and nemcoin.com are still available. Some are already asking to manage them but I am still thinking a litter bit because I want them justices. I am quite sure NEM is going to be huge but if I give someone these sites now, they are gone forever. So we need someone to do these sites justice or we can wait for a while. Sounds awesome, keep up the good work! When does this media campaign kick off? Is there anywhere I can read about it? I am preparing the campaign. The first phase would be basic ads. The second phase would include feature articles in more popular newspapers, magazines etc. The campaign should kick off when Jaguar is done preparing timeline and more detail plan so that we could have some substances. Right now, we already have reddit page and twitter presence. It would be nice if someone can prepare Youtube channels etc. I want to have nemcoin.info and nemcoin.com up before the media campaign but that is not absolutely necessary.

[[Development Update]] Hi all, For now, I'll be using this thread to share development status. If there is a lot of interest in the development discussion, I might create a new thread. There are currently two developers working on this project - Thies1965 and myself. If anyone is interested in contributing, please PM me. We're always happy to get more help , and we do have a few development shares to give out for people who help out. NXT is the inspiration of this project, but the current plan is not to use the NXT code without making significant changes. For one, I would like to rewrite / refactor much of the NXT code to make the code compliant with development best practices (including unit tests). My background is in enterprise software, so I'm confident that we can improve off of NXT and make it better. Right now, we have a simple git repo: https://github.com/NxtEM/nem. It's empty at the moment aside from two versions of NXT: the "official" 0.4.7e released by Jean-Luc and the decompiled 0.5.10 version. Both are browsable and we don't have any plans on taking them down until NEM is near completion. Depending on who wants to join the development team, I'll be keeping the language choice open until the weekend. The current preference is Java (like NXT), but I would be open to changing it depending on the interest. The first chunk of work will be around building all the classes that comprise the blockchain. - I'm planning to change the signing algorithm from NXT's non-standard curve25519 based implementation to ed25519 ( https://github.com/geir54/ed25519-java/blob/master/ed25519.java). - I will also change the account numbers to be more bitcoin-like Let me know what you think. @Jaguar and Theis. Some thoughts from a friend. ----------- There are things that I don’t like about NXT or that I think could be done differently. 1. Storing whole blockchain in memory. imo, “app” should be split into 3 parts: 1. server, storing blockchain and all related info in DB - this one would be used for all the SERIOUS stuff (so exchages, faucets, and any other apps like that would run this) 2. lightweight IN-BROWSER client - I think CfB has similar idea - that one, would have ZERO knowledge itself it, but I think it’d be possible to do whole singing in-browser. 3. ‘normal’ client - for users, that want to participate in the network, but don’t want to deal with DB setup. This one would keep blockchain in memory, BUT it would rely on “snapshots” a. snapshot would be created every X days (I was thinking about X=10) b. they would contain information about state (of accounts), but would drop all the history c. snapshots (for new clients) could be propagated in torrent-like fashion. 2. TPS rate. I’ve seen somewhere info, that Nxt could handle 100_000 TPS. I have some doubts about it. (current hardcoded limit for tx in block is 255, that would imply ~400 BLOCKS per sec). I think software, should be thought upfront to handle large amount of transactions per second. (so for sure, somewhere “in future” there should be switch to binary protocol, also it might be beneficial to use UDP to propagate information). what do you think about GHOST? Also I got interesting idea, but I’m not sure how it would work in practice... 3. Lack of Wallet. People simply got used to this. I don’t think generating Secret Key by doing SHA on a string (like Nxt is doing currently) is a good idea. 4. Curve. You’ve already written, you’d like to switch to Ed, so I guess you think the same. A. Server as a servlet - I think this is good choice for initial implementation (before adding binary protocol, also servlet, would still be needed if one would like to have IN-BROWSER client). But I’d change one simple (and quite obvious) thing: instead of embedding type of query in json, It should be in URL itself. -----------

Update: to counter spammers who take up spaces of legitimate NEM stakeholders. I made a new moderated registration thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=440185.0. Please update our reddit and twitter page accordingly. This discussion thread will not be moderated and we welcome legitimate questions and concerns. Stay tuned for our first ad and a flock of newcomers. I also added Paypal option in the new registration thread. I will personally handle these fiat transactions myself until someone else is willing to help.

This is the follow-up of our first and initial registration page here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=422129.1780. The registration page is our social contract to NEM stakholders. If you want to be a NEM stakeholder, you need to post in this thread. Similarly, your reply and proof of payment in the registration thread is also the proof that you belong to the NEM stakeholder list. This registration thread follows up from the start of page 91 in the initial registration page https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=422129.1780.; so any post beyond page 90 in the initial registration page is no longer considered NEM's social contract to the stakeholders. All the posts up to page 90 in the initial registration page is still a part of our social contract and are being reflected in our stakeholder list. on behalf of NEM development team UtopianFuture

THE FUNDRAISING IS OVER. THANK YOU ALL FOR SUPPORTING NEM.NEM is the New Economy Movement A groundbreaking crypto-currency that gives control of their economy back to the people and establishes them as sovereigns over their own destiny. There are many cryptocurrency, but do not mistake us as just another one. We are a New Economy Movement. We are looking for active participants that can help NEM in particular and the decentralized network culture in general. The fundraising is especially designed to promote fairness and egalitarianism. This is the first funding scheme of this type ever and we believe it is revolutionary in its effort to bring egalitarianism to the crypto industry. It is also designed to protect your anonymity if you wish to do so. If you do not have a Bitcointalk account yet, you need to create one to reserve a stake spot. Do not lose the account password, because you will need to access the account later to claim your share. In the first 20 pages, stake spots are reserved only by showing "interest". After page 20, a fee has been introduced for late participants. People who join after page 20 will still be distributed an equal share of NEM but they have to pay a fee to join in. Then after every 10 pages, the fee will be adjusted as a multiple of the initial fee. Another way to reserve a stake spot is to promote NEM to the outside community. Condition of promotion for a stake spot will be revised every 10 pages by the development team. We would greatly encourage you to spread NEM's idea to mainstream people outside the cryto-community even when you have already reserved a stake spot. After we reach a critical mass, we will launch the NEM genesis block, (we plan not to have more than 4000 accounts in total, see FAQ below). A total of 4 billion NEM will be distributed equally to all adopters. That means every stakeholder will have an equal and fair share of NEM when NEM blockchain officially starts. Then you can sell- buy NEM freely and let the market forces determine the price. One Bitcointalk account is entitled to only one stake spot. If you send more than the required amount at one time or multiple times, we will consider it a donation to NEM. An announcement that lasts at least 5 days will be made in this registration thread, discussion thread and NEM forum after the fundraising is over and the development team is ready for the first NEM distribution. It is your responsibility to read that announcement and follow the instruction to claim your NEM share. Again, do not lose the account password, because you will need to access your account to claim your share. The fundraising is planned to conclude at the end of page 90.
Automatic registration to new accounts is closed NOW. If you are new to Bitcointalk and want to join in you will need to make a short introduction post in our introduction thread first. The thread is here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=467027.new#new. Automatic registrations are still open to veteran account opened before 2/1/2014. Thank you all for your support.
Counter sockpuppet measure: Sending address could be checked and if there were already two payments made to NEM's addresses before, then the third payment would be considered a donation. This measure has come into effect at page 81 (registration thread 1) and does not apply retroactively (it is in effect now). So DO NOT SEND the fee to NEM from an exchange, you would need to withdraw to your account first. Thanks for your understanding. After you send the fee, include the transaction hash in your reply post in this thread, to confirm your stake reservation. The reservation should be made within 10 minutes after sending in the fee.
Donation is welcome but not necessary
2. Promote NEM to receive a stake pot without fee; now only open to accounts dated before 2/1/2014 and with > 20 activities
+ Link this thread to any public forums or social media sites such as twoplustwo and Reddit ; Facebook ; Twitter; tennis, sport, fitness, Flickr, Pininterest etc. anywhere with decent traffic so that people can hear about NEM (but please not in NXT forums); or makes a comment in any crypto related articles so the readers know about NEM. You have to show proof of your work in your reply post in this thread, then you have reserved a stake spot. Please be considerate when you promote NEM to the outside community.
+ Translate this thread to any other language and post it to one of that language's community, then you have reserved for a stake spot.
+ Make a video for NEM, then you have reserved for a stake spot.
The fee to join in will be 750 NXT or 0.075BTC after page 80. The fee will be increased by 50NXT or 0.005BTC after every 10 pages until the fundraising is over.
----------------- Integrity guaranteed. NXT, BTC sent to this project won't be touched until an official date for the genesis block is announced. The development team is committed that the project will go forward. The money collected here will be dedicated 100% to NEM developers to make the genesis block and other supporting apps. It all goes to make NEM a feasible project.
We are in the first exploratory phase. The first development plan is here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NhxTyi4Eo2D_1m1Ca8zvzQr0_RB0dgM2VuWXAIzcS-I/edit While NXT is the inspiration for NEM's development; NEM code bases would be re-written from ground-up with a focus on security, stability and innovation. ------------------- Please see our development plan for the details of NEM's features. NEM's project is inspired by NXT but NEM's code bases will be re-written completely from the start. NEM plans to combine the best features of Bitcoin and NXT system plus its own innovations.
Highlight innovations includes:
+ Unlike Bitcoin and other mining coins, all NEM would be distributed at the genesis block. NEM stakeholders are its own network nodes which verify the transactions and protect the network following a hybrid of Proof of Stake/ Proof of Importance forging mechanism. This type of distribution eliminates the need to have a mining industry which is an external force that imposes a huge cost to Bitcoin and other POW networks. The computational arm-race is avoided by using the hybrid of Proof of Stake/ Proof of Importance forging mechanism.
+ A novel method Proof of Importance forging that rewards the nodes that re most important to the network, not the nodes with the biggest number of NEM.
+ Support for colored coin implementation and the asset exchange is planned at launch with advanced features such as automatic settlement, assets listed with an expiration date. NEM focuses on the usability of the asset exchange to make them the premier platform for fundraising, asset listing, token issuing etc.
+ Secure messages for contract storage.
V1 blockchain plans to include all these above features, while more advanced features such as parallel blockchains, reputation system are in discussion and will be included in V2 blockchain in later dates.

FAQ:
1. How many shares of NEM would I get ?
There is no specific number yet. Our current formula is number of NEM per stake spot = total of NEM issued/ (total account stakes + development stakes). At the moment we are aiming for roughly 3-4000 accounts in which 5-10% is development stake, but it could be more, could be less depending on the fund raising.
2. What is the difference between regular stake and development stake ?
No difference except that development stakes are reserved for NEM developers/ helpers and they can use their regular accounts for these stakes.
3. I am an investor. Can I give you 50 BTC to get a bigger stake in NEM ?
NO - NEM's egalitarian principle means no single stakeholder should receive much more NEM than another stake holder regardless of how rich he is. NEM is conceptualized as a movement/ community, and therefore we need active participants rather than investors.
4. How could you prevent multiple buy-ins ?
In short - We can't. Multiple buy-in will be possible with multiple accounts. We also want you to have the ability to buy a NEM stake for your loved ones so they could all join the movement. However accumulating many NEM stakes goes against NEM's principles of fairness and equality, therefore the development team reserves the right to refund you the money if an effort to unfairly accumulate NEM stakes is discovered.
Detail explanations are here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=426303.msg4661493#msg4661493 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=426303.msg4671768#msg4671768
5. I contribute to NEM development so much more than some others. Why don't I have more (development) stakes than him/ her ?
Initially I would make decisions on allocation of development stakes with input from the development team and the community. So this blame falls on me. I will try my best to follow NEM's principle of fairness and equality but mistakes can sometimes happen and some people might be unhappy. On the other hand, NEM is also NO ENVY MOVEMENT. Volunteerism is greatly appreciated. 6. Can you compare NEM to NXT, Mastercoin, CounterParty Protocol and Ethereum ?
In short NEM is the first crypto-coin that no wealthy person or early adopters can obtain a significant percentage of by using money to buy-in or by using a huge mining rig. That to me symbolizes a great sense of fairness and egalitarianism. There will also no one with many NEM available for "dumping" when it starts on an exchange. That means there will be a significant financial upsides to NEM. In a few months, NEM will be the first pure Proof-Of-Stake cryptocurrency which starts out immediately with a huge and equal user base.

Thanks for managing NEM twitter. Don't worry about these dev stakes since they are still there for grab. And since you did the logo promotion you already got a regular stake (check the list). Yes, this is one of the biggest problems. It disrupts the whole idea of equality, fairness and stuff But it can be changed I don't know how at the moment. Maybe the fee should be divided equally to everyone? That would attract more users. Who is nemcoin ? are you a new user or a sockpuppet ?

yes, we need unless you prefer emunie starts to gain market share at the expense of nxt. What would happen if emunie starts to gain investor attention because they implement some features that nxt is just talking about??
don't you think it would be better to say to the world, look, nxt is here with those features done before any other crypto and make a strong marketing campaing.
Has any stakeholder talked about hiring a good SEO or marketing professional??
TBH, I prefer to use Nxt as store of value, eMunie as mean of exchange and Ethereum for public smart contracts (to fund firemen, etc.). i deduct from your answer that you like Nxt as a store of value because it is going to rise in value against any other currency. Am I correct in this assertion? How would it be achieved if nxt starts to lose value against other currencies because it does not gain investor focus?? In this case, it would be useless as a store of value. do you have any ace upon your sleeve (whatever it is) in relation to the promised nxt innovations just in case any other currency becomes mainstrem instead of Nxt?? thank you for your answers. Well, for one, NXT is not inflationary. Emunie and Eth have huge inflation. So why would NXT lose it's store of value if "it does not gain investor focus"? Will all of your coins suddenly be worth less? Also, is it just me or suddenly in the last 5 pages or so people became very, very concerned with price? People forgot already NXT went all the way up to $60mil market cap in 2 months already? Yes, it's a slow period, price-wise, but this always happens after a large rise. My advice, don't worry about the price. We have people here that constantly deliver good results, I wouldn't want them to half-ass something just so a few people can make a quick buck. I can't say much about Ether but to me Emunie is based on some very questionable assumption such as Emunie's price will always rise. As long as Emunie's price is falling, the whole thing would just collapse. It is very difficult to keep a currency stable and impossible with crypto currency due to a heavy element of speculation. I believe Emunie is doomed to fail at the first crash. So sorry Cfb, you won't have a chance to use Emuine to exchange because it won't reach that scale ever.

Hi guys, I am new member, just invested in a stake. I am from Bhutan and I just heard about the whole crypto movement a few months ago. I was intrigued by the whole idea and since then have invested in a litecoin mining rig as well as buying what BTC I could afford. 99.9 % of my countrymen are probably ignorant about Cryptocurrency, after my own conversion to crypto currency I have been fiercely proselytizing anyone who would listen. Happy to say I have been reasonably successful in converting my friends and will keep trying. How about reserving a stake each for a person from each country in the world to make NEM a truly international cryptocurrency. It will cost almost zero while truly expanding the overall spread of the currency. Imagine a Mongolian boy trying his hardest to convert his father to NEM or a Fijian girl spreading the word among her friends. I like that.
