1001  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 03, 2014, 11:53:28 AM
Update:  Kooream will help me in an effort to weed out all the fraudsters. We will both do an audition at the beginning of thread 2 today (independent checking). After we catch up with the new registrations in thread 2 we will look back and audit registration thread 1.

So new list updates will probably be delayed but as I have stressed in the past - the registration thread is in fact the original stakeholder list. As long as you are in there with valid transaction then you are a NEM stakeholder. So there is no need to worry if the google doc list has not updated to your position.

Since the registration threads are public records ((just as every transactions in the bloackchain). I would invite anyone to scrutinize the list to find mistakes, and more importantly to throw out all the fraudsters who do not belong to the list.

all questions, comments should go to update/ discussion thread. Thanks
1003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEM -4 billion coins- Equal Shares for ALL - Registration thread (part 2) on: February 03, 2014, 03:16:12 AM
Emergency announcement: From this point on all "reserved", "interested", "post transaction later" posts will be deleted. You should send the required fee to NEM addresses, obtain the transaction hash and make a post. The registration thread will strictly be maintained as a registration place only. All other comments should go to the discussion/ update thread.

This measure is introduced to combat the fraudster's practice of using other people's transaction hashes to reserve a stake. Since if two accounts have the same hash we prioritize the first account who use that hash so it is critical that a fraudster account cannot use hash from later legitimate transactions.

Now for all accounts with duplicate hashes, the priority is given to an account whose post appears earlier. But for further appeal you would need to contact me show proof of ownership of that transaction. The appeal could be proven easily by sending very small amount from your address to NEM again. Then the other account with a duplicate hash would be labeled "fraudster". You could also consider signing your transaction with your account name to make sure your hash cannot be claimed by a fraudster.

I hope the community will also guard the registration thread to catch any attempt of fraudsters to cheat his way to the stakeholder list. I will do an audit of thread 2 tomorrow and before the first NEM distribution we will do at least one thorough audition of the entire list.

Why don't you ask people to sign their message with their BTC account, this is the way to go against fraudster.

Yes from now on you should consider signing your btc transaction with your username.
But even without a signature, we still have a way to tell a fraudster. Having a signature would be faster though.
And to all of the fraudsters, don't be happy too early if you are now in the list because we will be doing an audition of everything at least twice before the initial NEM distribution.

and not just that someone use the hash of others

if there duplicate hash has to be an audit to find out the owner,

I am no scammer. I demand to be taken off the fraudster word of my name on the list,

and request  excuse to me and the community!!!

I will audit every transactions in thread 2 tomorrow and I already have someone helping me. Your name will be clear and apology and wine will be given.

stakeholder List update to page 10 thread 2. The reason for this lateness is I found out couple of fraudsters and the main trick they used is to make reservations with other people transactions.

Since the fee changes every 10 pages, they can only use the transaction in that range because the first thing I checked is to see if there is indeed an transaction of the right amount. Now I also sorted the hash in alphabetical order and only accept unique transaction hash; if a hash was used the second time then that user is a fraudster. So it would take longer time now to update the list since the checking now requires more times and efforts.

I would also go back to earlier transactions to find every single fraudsters and throw them out of the list. The good thing is that all the records are public in the registration thread and all fraudsters will be found out easily using the method I lay out.

So go ahead and waste your times because I am going to find you and throw you out of the stakeholder list.

1010  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NXT] Community nominations to the funding comittee on: February 02, 2014, 08:30:30 PM
We choose the trustees just for holding and disbursement of the fund. How to use the fund will be made by other people or consensus of the community.

If this is so (I understood it in a different way according to the second voting results) then we'd only need guardians/executors, area of expertise is irrelevant and it boils down to a matter of trust.

I understood the committee was defined as such according to utopianfuture's definition of "funding committee + open bounty" approach, winner of the previous vote.

Yes that is the idea. because we already have a treasurer :Cfb .

In an attempt to attract users who are relatively new to crypto-currency. I have set up a point-of-sale PAYPAL to NEM that I personally oversee: The way it works is that:

1. The new user contacts me via PM asking for a PayPal option
2. The new user sends me $ via Paypal (gift)
3. I send the required NXT to NEM account from my personal address 3231774856984709013
4. I give the new user the transaction id so he/ she can make a new account, make a post with that transaction id to reserve a stake (explicitly announcing this is paypal transaction as well)

Now this option is a way to help new users coming to NEM and cryptocurrency in general so it is not open to any users who can access NXT or BTC easily. I would generally ask for personal information and the reason why they cannot send NXT or BTC in.

So the address 3231774856984709013 would be exempt from sending address check.

I would prefer to not use this option for more than a total of 1000$ in transaction so let me know if you want to help and offer this type of service.

Quote
Counter sockpuppet measure: Sending address could be checked and if there were already two payments made to NEM's addresses before, then the third payment would be considered a donation

So two reservations can be made for an account, for example to also get stake for a friend or family member?

No another new account still needs to be made for a friend/ family member, but the sending address to NEM's account could be the same.

This is the registration threat. The fee for registration is measured by the page the registration is postet on. So its not the place for posting anything else than registrations, I think.

Yes this place should be reserved for new registrations. All other comments, observations should generally go to our discussion thread. But dont worry I will delete all the irrelevant posts in a few hours before the fee changes.

You do not think they sure get a share if they tweet what if others pay $ 45. Give yourself but please more effort we benefit from well-made advertising and not by crap.please reading yourself by what you have written at bitcoin.de....

I also feel some of these tweets and posts are not enough while other people are staking 0.05btc now..its so obvious some of the "promotional" tasks people do don't have any use, or are just a copy paste on their facebook/twitter that nobody reads, and mostly when i look at them they make NEM look like spam.

The initial efforts are worth it, especially when people put their real names and connection out to spread NEM. Anyway these promotions have been temporarily suspended.

About the forging mechanism, here is my observation. NXT's forging incomes mainly go to big accounts with 5 millions or more, especially to a few of 30 million + accounts.
NEM won't have that kind of forging fee concentration thanks to the initial distribution design. I would suggest we stick with the traditional forging mechanism as in NXT as well as PPC. It would save us a lot of valuable times to invent a new forging mechanism that is not be gamed or attacked easily.

It's true about the concentration, so this may not be worth the effort.
So apart from the distribution design, are there any things we can do to make NEM more attractive than other coins ?

Stay tuned. Development plan will be published in a week or so.

Some updates on Reddit direct advertising. As it turns out Reddit advertising demand greatly exceeds the supply of advertising slots in the Bitcoin sub-reddit.

I managed to book 1 day slot from 2/28 to 3/1 on the Bitcoin sub-reddit; fully paid for and ready to go.
The title is "A new kind of cryptocurrency. The first egalitarian coin. Join NEM to change the world " with the link go directly to our front page.

Litecoin sub-reddit is also fully booked even further out. So I turned to the Dogecoin sub-reddit. This ad would run from 2/5 to 2/7 for two days. The title is "Envy no more. The first egalitarian coin. Join the movement. NEM registration is open" with the link go directly to our front page.

These are trial runs and funded by my personal budget so we will have to see how effective they are. I will stop the "share the word to get a stake" after page 20 until 2 day of Doge sub-reddit advertising is over.  We don't even know if the fundraising is still open on 2/28 when we have the Bitcoin subreddit advertising but at that point I expect that we would have much more details about NEM development plan and a good front site for NEM.

All of these ad are subject to approval by Reddit so nothing is certain yet.

All these ads have been approved by Reddit and would go online according to the schedule. So we are going to bombard Doge reddit headquarter in two day starting 2/5 Smiley
I will probably put some more ads in some other sub-reddits between 2/8 -2/15.

Regarding the forging algorithm. Are we still exploring options to improve this over NXT?

I am convinced that the design of the forging algorithm is one of the major things that may convice people to invest in NEM!

For this I believe the goal of the forging concept should be:

1. To attract as many people as possible to invest in NEM (preferrably even small amounts)
2. To make NEM more than just an investment

What do I mean by that:

Well I guess we can all agree that the forging algorithm of NXT does not attract the regular joes to the game. I believe this is  exactly what we should aim for with NEM because there are alot of regular joes  Cheesy  This would also make it a more stable currency compared to when the majority of users are investors that only aim to make money with it.
Once the currency has proved to be stable you will establish trust. I believe a lack of thrust is the major argument merchants still have against cryptocurrencies. (and obviously the legal grey area debate but this can not be countered by the design of NEM  Wink )
If we could make a concept that will attracht merchants (obviously this is long term thinking), I suppose this will benifit NEM hugely!

Please let's debate on this and share some thoughts.

As long as the transparent forging isn't affected I think we can think about doing things differently. I always thought about taking the "age" of coins into account like I think peercoin does.

Based on the post below I suppose things will be different:

Mining is called forging with NXT.
It is advertised that transparent forging is one of the key factors and differentiators of NXT.

I tried to understand the algorithm behind that forging mechanism. I did not find anything (except looking into the decompiled code).

IMHO: NXT concept of forging does not follow the approach of 'fairness'; it generates GODS and GIANTS. The more NXT you have the more NXT you will receive. This approach does not support the concept behind NEM.

A much more flexible and less chunk building algorithm has to be developed/defined.

Any suggestions / ideas?

Further, I think transparent forging can not be touched so that is out of the question.
The idea about taking the "age" of coins into account can be interesting if you mean the age since last transaction.

This would certainly reward new/active users without creating GODS and GIANTS, so if something like that can be achieved I believe this is benificial.
