This is Doge reddit ad "Envy no more. The first egalitarian coin. Join the movement. NEM registration is open." and it is still running with 70 comments and morethan 1370 click-though. The ad is still running so you can come by and drop a comment if you like.

TOTAL *   85,205   1,317   1.546%

This is Reddit front page ad "Proof of Stake and a Fair Start. The first egalitarian cryptocurrency. Join NEM to change the world". which just ended after running for 4 days.

TOTAL *   37,760   164   0.43% (well it is front page so it is more of a brand-awareness campaign)

We have an ad slated for Bitcoin subreddit as well.

Take a look at the history of the fundraising, people get in just by placing a reference link to our front page. There are now 100 or more of such links around the globe so new people can read about NEM and there is also world of mouth effect. My goal for the fundrasing is to spread NEM widely and evenly (but not perfectly even) and it has been largely successful so far.
There are still undisclosed promotional plans for NEM. This all fits with my vision of NEM's "parallel development". NEM founders/ stakeholders do not need to be core developers to help NEM's success. We are first of all a community/ movement and we should all act in a way to help NEM going forward.
825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 11, 2014, 02:25:18 PM
Without sock-pup accounts there wont be 3000 imho. Where will we find all those unique users...
And dont forget that you can fund only one total newbie. It wont be easy to get that many people.
How many unique users are there now, I would say less than 300.

How do you come up with that number? There are at least 1000 unique veteran accounts in the stakeholder list. In the first 20 pages there are already more than 200 unique veteran accounts already. NEM is also attracting a lot of new members to this broad as well and they start participating in crypto starting here. If you follow the news here, I have been advertising massively in Doge reddit, as well as Reddit front page and there are more than 1000 click-though to NEM front page from Reddit. So 1000 is my guess but probably more  unique users than that but you should count it in the registration thread as it is public information.

Now I agree people have 2-3 accounts and possibly more are quite normal. But you should take your time and follow the fundraising rule requirements (mixing the coin properly to avoid taint analysis) and create 10 new accounts/ passwords/ move the money around to see how long and how much does it take. That would be the true costs of people having multiple accounts which is significantly more than having 1 account and 1 stake.

What is the best client to test the exchange currently?
827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 11, 2014, 12:17:05 PM
Due to being very busy at work currently, I could not stay up to date on all of the discussion:
I've been onboard with NEM directly when I read about the idea because it sounded like something I was looking for since getting into crypto currencies. Now with the higher prices I think it would be fair to acquire another spot (not taking away two cheap spaces).

Are we allowed to buy a second stake of NEM if we are already on the stakeholder list once? From what I read it is ok two buy two, one for myself and one for a loved one. Would it be ok to buy in a second spot from my btct account which is already enlisted once?

You could buy a second stake but with a new account. We stick with with the original 1 account/ 1stake rule. To be fair 1 account is different from 1 person. But the idea that's we could start the first distribution/ genesis block with 3000 equal piece of NEM for 3000 stakeholders is just awesome that I am going to follow through with it.

After the first distribution, everyone could freely sell, buy, give away or consolidate their holdings as they see fit.

Post here if you have complaints, questions or appeals about your NEM stakeholder's status.

Main registration thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=440185.0
Stakeholder list is here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlidWok7hW0DdDZ0amZpM00wQXhrR2lJM3pCOGRhNFE#gid=0 ; so please read it carefully first.

the ultimate proof for your stakeholder's status is your transaction to NEM's account and the proof that you owns the sending address of that transaction. So don't worry if you did send your money to join NEM but has not yet appear in the list because we will make it right in the end. But be patient when we work things out.

Hi,

No idea how this could happen, but someone stole my tx-id BEFORE I made my post...  Huh

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=422129.msg4771489;topicseen#msg4771489

User Cliftonny used MY id: 2b437119ffcf5ed5de43d7d8fc623dece1119cdd37f21f63ed769ac0b1194311

Another one  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=422129.msg4770648;topicseen#msg4770648
User ShooterMoore used my second tx-id (Flepper): df9a45d36c9fd6be4cd7714fc2967f7a801ae8c4d596385934b8049faaf0b3f9

For my second stake of user Flepper, which is also mine (for my brother: https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,3667.msg34622.html#msg34622)

Would you like me to sent another small payment to prove those are mine?

Thread 1 issue. Please wait for a while.
831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] ---NEM stake complaint, questions etc.--- on: February 10, 2014, 10:18:07 PM
I opted as a stakeholder here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=440185.msg4858419#msg4858419

I accidentally copy/pasted the NXT address from the payment as transaction ID, i got marked in the list as possible hash fraudster.

I sent utopian future the proper transaction id and also edited the original post to contain the right transaction id.

sent friday 31 january 2014 16:31:22
transaction id: 1311926364865472858

I would like to get some feedback on this.
I sent PM's and posted the issue at hand here, yet nothing has been resolved.
My status in the list is still set to 'possible double hash fraudster'.

Solved. But remember that I have to make sure the new hash is not a copy of someone else. A lot of extra times is spent when I have to go back and check everything.
832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEM -4 billion coins- Equal Shares for ALL - Registration thread (part 2) on: February 10, 2014, 08:32:16 PM
Dont you think its about time to finish up the pre-sale. 90% of new stakes are from "newbies" with 1 post. Obv some are buying in multiple times. This goes against what you were trying to achieve in the first place i.e a fair distribution.

Go to the discussion thread if you want to discuss.
833  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 10, 2014, 08:06:14 PM
It was obviously a weak password, and 2 minutes mean, that the "rainbowtable"-man is at it again Cheesy

You can check that by yourself if you send money to an account that has a password that is in the english dictionairy, it will be gone within minutes Wink

so our man ojman28 was hard on this IPO tweak, and he sent to a weak password, and just happened to get popped, then its all his damn fault, and a reminder to pick a REAL PASSWORD

There are a lot of risks for multi-acc-ers: BTT pass hacked or forgotten, transaction hash stolen, NXT acc hacked (as in this case) .

From NEM thread lol...

That's the design. Instead of easily sending in 3000 nxt to buy 5nem stakes now you would have to make up 5 different accounts, take the waiting time to post, then move the money around and send them in. Overcoming all these hassles, but the multi accters still suffer from public shaming and risk getting the money returned if they don't mix their coins good enough to avoid taint analysis.

I do like having some of these persistent souls in the team as they do believe in nem's success.

whatever model we choose - I suggest we try to run it on top of NXT via AM; this architecture is BCNext's actual goal for NXT. CfB has stated he would consult for free for someone attempting this

Cfb should join (help) NEM since he is one of the early stakeholder (check the list). But NEM would not restrict itself to be a NXT's AM (arbitrary message).

Why not issue honorary stake in NEM to people who deserve it and/or could potentially be helpful?  I think we should give BCNext some stakes in NEM because NEM probably wouldn't exist without him.  Regardless of what he chooses to do with it, he deserves it and if he decided to be supportive of NEM that would be a very good thing.

Better for people who are able to contribute to have stake then someone who bought a stake in NEM for their Grandma who's not even really interested.   I don't know that one stake for CfB would be enough incentive.  People like to see those who work hard, take risks, and contribute to be rewarded.  Of course probably no distribution is perfect.

Did you see  NXT honarary stakes issued for Satoshi Nakamoto, not accounting for authors of multiple crypto class codes bcnext took from ? Open source community is all about borrowing ideas, codes and building upon each others works. That type of progress keeps on going for the benefit of mandkind.
Not that I think bcnext not deserving some NEM, but he could buy in too given 50 million nxt stack he is sitting on.

The goal is not for NEM to be a NXT copy and paste coin. IMO, there's no value in that. With NEM, we want to take some of the best ideas of NXT and Bitcoin and create something new and, hopefully, better.

Wow that is amazing and exiting news to me.  I'm not knocking nxt but the chance to rewrite the rules offers so much.
I have a question which might be a dumb one so I apologise in advance if so.  I like the way nxt is different than mined coins, but it is a common criticism, though I think "pre-mine" is an incorrect term.
Is there any way... that without disrupting nem's initial distribution, that it could be made more appealing to the coin miners?  Perhaps adopt a model that is based on nodes on the network, versus amount of nem held?
I'm thinking of this purely in terms of what could make nem a more sucessfull currency.  And I'll admit I know little of what I'm talking about.

Miners's main activities are mining and selling what they mine, of course they are verifying transaction and protecting the network. But in my POV, the way POW coins have been dominated by mining industry is one of its main weakness. A self-sufficient network would be more sustainable in the long-run since the all the accounts/ nodes within the network verify transactions and protect the network themselves without resorting to an external party such as the mining industry and that would reduce the the cost of operating the network noticeably.

I have some more explanations here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=426303.msg5017477#msg5017477 on why NEM has started the way it was.

Miners are of course welcome to join NEM by selling their mined coins and send in the relatively low fee. In the future, there may be a fund set aside to support the node infrastructure of NEM network.

Nakamoto is a bit long, I will admit, but it is only 1 syllable more than satoshi.
Naka could work as well. This would just be 中. This is also the short country name of China (中国). 中 could be the currency symbol. It is already in unicode...

新 means "new" and is pronounced the same in Chinese and Japanese (xin/shin). That character is also in unicode!!

I like Naka so while we pay a homeage to Satoshi Nakamoto it is somewhat different from bitcoin's naming tradition. We could have the currency symbol at the same time. One stone kills two birds.

So 1 NEM= 1 bitcoin; 1 naka= 1satoshi.
839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 10, 2014, 02:01:32 AM
Hey Nem´s!

Watching the development of NEM from the far first day and must say that Im really impressed!

Keep up the good work! Alltough there are allways stones in your way, but hey problems are here to get solved, otherwise you wouldn´t be in that forum and developing an alternative. The distribution is so far the best I´ve seen for my own, also if there are a lot of suckpuppets.

I hope the team reaches the goal to makes our world a "bit" better.(Maybe also a good model for a slogan)
Let us hope that money isn´t a thing of need, in future centuries, and dividing us like we it know today. To make real progress possible, like bringing us into the real far space, in a technically and ethically way, which is all two far away, for now and through our behaving as a civilization.

I think its quiet interesting that SHA-3 is used, like in Copperlark. Means this that the network will be secured only through GPU/CPU or will you also include in some way Asics? And if not, how Asic resistant is SHA3?

And I read somewhere that a name for the NEM satoshis is searched, why not "futures", alltough this gets a chance to getting mistaken with bourse futures, OP brought thing into rolling.

NEM isn't secured by proof-of-work, so I don't think ASICs are an issue.

For the name of the basic unit of NEM, I propose the "nakamoto." Satoshi Nakamoto created this whole world, and it would be good to recognize that. Also, Nakamoto can be written as 中元 in Japanese (among other ways of writing it). This basically means 中国元, or "Chinese currency." So I think it is a name that could appeal to a larger audience, while still keeping the cyber-/cypher-punk roots.

Does it make sense to call it na or naka ? Nakamoto is a bit long for everyday use. How much is this ? 5 naka.
840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 09, 2014, 11:29:17 PM
So 2 questions.

1) What is the tecnical term for the assets that will be issued on the asset exchange. Specifically what is the technical term for this type of financial instrument? I know they will be a type of security but they are not futures. When the us treasury issued promissory notes redeemable for gold or silver they called them certificates. Is "certificate" the most accurate term? I, with my silver bullion gateway, would be issuing "silver bullion certificates"?
Share?

2) Even if we know what the technical term is than we probably shouldn't call it that. We may solicit unwanted attention from financial regulators. So what are we going to call them?

Asset?

no a share entitles you to a portion of the equity in a thing. this is different. this is the title to a thing its self. you are the owner of the silver coin, i am the custodian, and the token is the deed that proves that you are the one that owns it.

What you do essentially is to open a shop to sell silver.
