1561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT full feature clients - progress tracking thread on: January 12, 2014, 01:15:54 PM
I have asked all the lead developers to drop by here occasionally. So feel free to ask questions they may find time to answer them. Please post something with actual content and don't spam the thread.

openning statement from baimanga 1/9 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4418563#msg4418563 fund him to make the client possible; contact him if you can contribue.

update from nexern 1/12; can't be sure you will understand what he said but here it is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4466143#msg4466143

Update: Award announcement

There will be an award of 48380 NXT for the best Open-Source client for NXT. The client has to able to run in Window. This award came from multiple private donors with Bybitcoin as the representative. I will personally send this award to the winner.

I would tentatively set the date for the award on March 1.

UPDATE: I would move the the date for the reward to a later date, tentatively on April 1.
1562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Nxt full feature clients - progress tracking thread on: January 12, 2014, 01:14:32 PM
Full feature clients should be self-contained application which support most of NXT's network features such as alias sytem, decentralized asset exchange, voting system, arbitrary messages. Ideally, they should be run across platforms or at least support Window or Mac.

Currently NXT client is browser-based NRS (NXT reference software ?) which support basic functions such as send/ receive; block statistics etc. but it is quite awkward to carry asset exchange operation in that interface. So NRS would be phased out gradually when we have some full-feature clients running stable.

This thread will track the progress of works on building full feature clients for NXT. Some may question why we have that many clients in progress at the same time. The answer simply is that: each developers have different ideas of how a NXT client should be and we actually encourage a decentralized approach to building NXT econ-system;
So eventually there should be more than one NXT full feature clients.

Here we are. These are NXT full feature clients in the progress at the moment. You are welcome to contact with the developers to make suggestions or to donate. Let me know if you are planning to make another NXT full- feature clients and I will add it here.

@bitme the list above is severely lacking new ideas and projects from ricot, rickyjames, smartcard etc. also miss a important projects in progress such as nexern's NxtHUB client. You should make him do more for 5K NXT.

I think we need to open some threads based on functionality instead of another thread when everything stays in the same place which  is the same as this original thread.
We should have at least three more threads like this:

1. NXT full feature clients - progress tracking thread

2. NXT security and user interface improvement - progress tracking thread

3. NXT arbitrary message and mobile application - progress tracking thread

There threads will run parallel with the main thread here and the NXT source  code report here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397183.0

This will at least bring some organization to grass-root development we have here.

I already prepare materials to open the NXT full feature clients - progress tracking thread which will then be linked to nextcoin and nxtcrypto forum so all specific updates regarding full feature client can go there.

Someone should do the same for other thread and keep them updated.
1565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 11, 2014, 10:45:54 PM
Hey, what do you think about this...

NXT –  created by an unknown rebel, describeveloped by free people!

Do you like the world? Do you like the governments? The system? No? You are not alone! Nobody likes to be lied, nobody likes to be restricted, nobody likes to face a wall every time he starts a business, to be forced to break the law, to be pushed around, to be humiliated… But there’s going to be a change! BTC showed the way, it injected a virus in the system. Now NXT will do the rest. An unknown genius rebel, who watched the development of the “virus”, created his masterpiece, setting the beginning of the revolution! Nothing will stop the process, because nothing can stop it! It is irreversible! NXT creates an enviroment with countless opportunities, an environment in which we will build our empire of freedom!

I can totally see the words "genius" & "masterpiece" being used to describe satoshi but lets wait for some solid proof & evidence first before we use those words to describe BCnext.

Right now we have lots of hype n "sizzle" but I dont see any solid "steak" yet to show for the Nxt hype yet.

No hard feelings BCnext...

Right now, from an early adopter & Nxt investor perspective, all I see is another copy cat programmer attempting to copy satoshi's shroud of anonymity, idea of a public ledger,  etc.

Being "original" is genius.
Being "different" is NOT genius.

Keep in mind that satoshi created btc to take power away from the 1% on wall street  n give it back to the 99% on Main Street while BCnext created nxt for personal financial gains.

keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with doing some thing for personal financial gains but I would hesitate to compare or place an unproven coder on the genius level of satoshi.

I invested in nxt because it was the first copy cat coin to make an attempt to come up with its own source code instead of being lazy n copying satoshi's code.

Is it possible that BCnext is another genius like satoshi?  Of course its possible...

I hope BCnext is able to produce the code that he claims n provide proof of his genius. ..

Until there is proof... BCnext is just another wanna be copy cat...

once proof is clearly available. .. I will be the first to promote the genius of BCnext's.

Wow I thought you should know better since you said you are an investor from an early day. The guy doesn't care about money. You should come back and browse all the posts BCNext made in this forum and you will see that the guy want to make his idea material first. Financial gain will come but I don't think that is his primary concern. If he is materialistic, he would have done another J.R mastercoin fundraising style and pocket 1-2 thousand BTC instead of a mere 21 BTC.

It takes a historical perspective to know what kind of contributions BCNext would make so I agree that at this point over-hype is premature. But in my personal observations, he has shown some signs of a genius in the making in some levels. There are technical innovations such as POS, transparent forging, however what I see the most valuable in his works is a coherent vision of what a decentralized network could be. It's similar to the way Steve Job designs the first Iphone. There are technical improvements compared to earlier smartphones in the first Iphone, but much more important innovation is the way everything is brought together to define what a smartphone should be. NXT decentralized network could be the same. It will succeed not on a specific feature but on the way all the different features are bought together in a coherent framework; plus all that hi-techs are accompanied with strong message of decentralization and community involvement. That the whole package together imho is the novel contribution.

Satoshi has paved the way with his blockchain original idea. But without a written evidences, I doubt Satoshi has such a strong vision of how a decentralized network based on blockchain technology could be. So in a sense, BCNext extends Satoshi's original idea.

We still need to wait for the actual implementation of NXT decentralized network and there are still much uncertainty ahead. But the only reason I has devoted so much my time to this venture is because I has a conviction in my above judgement. I believe in NXT success and the validation of BCNext's ideas.

NXTarea.com went public!

My new site NXTarea.com is now open for everyone! Smiley

We have an online wallet and a big link list. I redirected CoinArea.net to the new site as well. The faucet was dry for several days already and nobody is willing to donate. That's why the faucet goes offline and won't come back. Use wesley's one. Wink

Currently I am developing a few small games and a place to promote NXT businesses. Let me know if you have nice ideas. Smiley

Love the site. Look clean and modern. Do you have a plan to monetize it ? You could have a chunk coming from affiliate links in the future.

There's a piece i'm missing in NXT. With many of the other coins, you see shops and services popping up that take some particular altcoin as a payment, but not with NXT - why not? Only one shop so far.

Two. Only tees for now, but by next week there will be the Blockchain jewelery for your ladies ears, fingers or neck!
http://flakes.bigcartel.com/
On PM basis for now on NXT but them devs are fast !

Why don't you make some NXT custom tees and sell us NXT-ers ?

FOUND MY LOST PASSWORD!!!!

I had an account with 1M NXT in it that I had thought that I had lost forever.  The password that I had saved in NOTEPAD did not seem to unlock the account after I had created it (and coins had been sent to it).  Turns out that my cut-n-paste from NOTEPAD was adding two end of line characters to the middle of the password when I setup the account!

I have NOTEPAD -> FORMAT -> Work Wrap on.  It appears that sometime when copying from Notepad, COPY-N-PASTE is adding 2 E-O-L characters in the middle of the string where the next breaks in the display, even though the characters are not there in the notepad file.

For proof of what I am saying, I will post the account, Saved off Password and NXT Password in a few hours after my transfer (out of that account) ages a bit.

Note, this is not a problem with NXT.....It is a problem with using NOTEPAD to store passwords.
My Proof....BTW, the only deposit to the account was from the genesis block.

NOTEPAD CONTAINED THESE LINES:  (The password line is one line and is wrapped to next line because of length.  If it shows as 2 lines here, it is one line in Notepad)
==============================
Account:7577840883495855927
Account Password:98yr38hD*J#)r039jr(JD(#)dju#)Ar9j34j9a)d9j)(J)Jr3)(J(r9fpoj3pojpj90j99uu(U90UUjOpj45390f99f94j4p4546sdr

But, the passphrase got no coins....(Not account 7577840883495855927)

The problem was that COPY-N-PASTE had added two line control characters from where the Word Wrap was splitting to the next line in the display.  {This is intermittent; does not always happen.}

NXT Account = Copy all three lines to passphrase....First line has an ENTER and the second line is just an ENTER.
============
98yr38hD*J#)r039jr(JD(#)dju#)Ar9j34j9a)d9j)

(J)Jr3)(J(r9fpoj3pojpj90j99uu(U90UUjOpj45390f99f94j4p4546sdr

HOW I DISCOVERED THIS: I tried to log into my different account this morning and it logged to different account.  I pasted the buffer into a new Notepad and noticed line controls had been added to middle of passphrase. I closed notepad (that contains my passphrase) and tried again.  It worked fine the second time.  That is when I reasoned that CUT-N-PASTE must have added the E-O-L characters.

HOW DID I GET BACK TO ACCOUNT NUMBER:  Basically put two ENTER before the last character in passphrase; and log into NRS.  If not passphrase, put two enters before the last 2 characters.  Then before last three.  Eventually, I recovered the passphrase.  Note, where the E-O-L characters were added depends on the dimensions of the window when you copied it from Notepad.

My motivation in bringing this to the community is that there are postings where people are positive of their passphrase, but it opens a different account now.  This could be a similar issue and the coins could be recoverable.

Again, this is a personal issue with storing passphrases.  It is not a NXT defect (except that control characters appear to be allowed in passphrases).

EDIT: Apparently others have noticed this bug as well. Do a search and you can find it.  Example, http://bavih.blogspot.com/2008/07/notepad-bug.html

Congrat man, 1 million NXt is a lot of money now. You could have sold some if you have had that much NXT earlier.

Why global adoption is not an option.
A very good read as of why inflationary currencies are far from perfect, but the smaller evil compared to deflationary.

http://www.tuicool.com/articles/2qayYjb

And like the author, I am a fan of cryptos. The limited supply type just has some fundamental flaws.

It is just very common misunderstanding and flawed logic people make regarding crypto currencies such as Bitcoin or NXT. No serious crypto supporter said Bitcoin can entirely replace fiat currencies. Here what i often tell others, Bitcoin just need to replace 1% of the total global usage of fiat currency and banking system, it is already worth at least 100K $ / per coin, and it goes up from there.
When Bitcoin is only 1% of the total fiat, the debate of deflation is very moot point. It just doesn't matter for the economic functioning of the global economy.

Saying so implies what governments say. Bitcoin is not a currency, it is a commodity.
I'm into the whole crypto thing because I see the potential of a monetary revolution. Something better than the current system.
I have NXT, not that many, but I got them pretty early, very soon after launch, so I got my nice share of profit. I see NXT mostly like an experiment though.
Offering services you can pay with a commodity that rises in price isn't really thought through to the end.
I hope the price rises nevertheless Smiley

People pay for things by  some common commodity the entire history of mankind until the invention of fiat money. In reality, nothing is exactly black and white. Everything in life is just about some shades of gray. A monetary system with crypto currencies is already better than one without and that's worth fighting for.

So, you premined 100% and still don't do a giveaway?

So, you decided you would come in, spout your opinion and ask for a giveaway?

Not asking for a giveaway. Just questioning your marketing strategies
If you'd done some research, you'd know that there have been giveaways and there still are loads of bounties for people who contribute.

You'd also know that the word "mine" doesn't apply here.

I did know that. I did my research. Still don't think that's sufficient

I have been thinking about that last sentence, and the only answer I can come up with is: "So, how do you propose to solve that? Force people to give it away?"
Or is it basically just a statement that means to say "I disapprove"?

The people who hold the big load should give more away, yes. That's the only way 'the masses' will approve of this coin. As long as a few people hold 90% of the coins, this won't work.

First of all, NXT is not a coin. Second of all, thank you for your competent opinion.
1574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 11, 2014, 06:07:54 PM

After listening to your criticism I decided to reduce the BTC withdrawal fee to 0.0001 BTC (just enough to cover the cost of the transfer)

Please reconsider using NewAltEx.com

Thank you

The business of currency exchange is not easy, and even more so as you are a late entrant. You would probably need a market maker initially. And you would have to spend money upfront on attracting users if you want a piece of market share over the long-term.

He has tried two times yesterday, his ip is: 99.109.179.40
I had received the same report on the forgot password function attempt at the middle
