Thank u. Keep us updated, plz.

From Ittay just now:

Quote
I'm afraid I won't be able to do the code review for you. I would have to learn the details of the elliptic curve algorithm you're using, and I won't have enough time for that in the near future. I'll try and send you a name of someone who'd be perfect for the job (if he's interested, I'm waiting for his response).

Nevertheless, I thank you for the offer, and I would be glad to advise on the distributed aspects of your protocol, if you are interested at some point. Looking forward to seeing a white paper with the details of your architecture. I'm very glad to see novel cryptocurrency with actual innovation over Bitcoin.

Best,
Ittay

Well, hopefully his guy will work out.  At the very least, we've most likely got the academics and professional community talking about NXT now.  will let you all know if this other guy he is referring will work out

Utopianfuture contacted someone also. Am I right?

msin contacted weis http://saweis.net/ but he also said he is busy but he also said he will introduce someone else.

You can vote to frezee or send the fund back to genesis account, but let not involve BXNext in this type of decision. I am sure BCNext won't do it and that is not how decentralization works

Hey, making skewed polls is also not the way to go.

So please add my "BCNext should spread it in large chunks to various stakeholders" option to the poll.

BCNext won't do it so I will not add that option. If you can persuade him to do so then I will add the option " BCNext decides everything". If he make all the decisions then he will do what he want not things you want him to do.
1443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Decisions on 9 million common fund on: January 16, 2014, 03:40:13 PM
Committee will be a disaster.

There should be some sort of a giveaway or more bounties distribution and then those who get large stakes will decide for themselves how to spend it best.

Isn't it the whole idea of POS? If they want to plaster buses with ad's, it's their money now.

The only person the community now trusts to spread money more or less fairly is BCNext. So he should do it.

On a side note, Ripple's idea to use global computing project as a giveaway is a very good one.
Not for this, but still something to consider.

You can vote to frezee or send the fund back to genesis account, but let not involve BXNext in this type of decision. I am sure BCNext won't do it and that is not how decentralization works

Poll on funding here. Please vote and let your opinions known. This is important decision so let the poll run for a week before we make a collective decision.

Now when I think about all the fighting that common fund will ensure, the sending all to genesis account option looks good to me  Smiley

This is a bot sending messages to stakeholders.

This is the message:
Quote
Your NXT account is not fully protected! Please visit http://goo.gl/7vvRJl to learn more.

This is my entry for the AM contest: Project Wake-Up Call :-)

The idea is, that sooner or later account holders will use software (clients, BC Explorer, etc.) that will show the plain text messages received on their account.

Thus, I sent out plain text messages to all accounts with more than 50.000 NXT in it that have no public key (204 accounts in total).

The message says:

Quote
Your NXT account is not fully protected! Please visit http://goo.gl/7vvRJl to learn more.

The link in the message goes to http://nxtsolaris.wordpress.com/nxt-no-public-key-landing-page/ which gives a short explanation on how to secure an account by doing an outgoing transaction.

 Wink

Very nice idea, marcus.

Pin the pollster is away. So I make this poll for anyone who care about the funding issue. Go there to vote and let your opinion know.

NXT has an account of 9 milllion NXT currently controlled by BCNext. They are the unclaimed NXT and belong to the community. This poll is to gauge community's opinion of what we should do to this fund at the moment.

Post you opinions below. There is already an opinion thread in nxtcrypto forum which you should consult.
1450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 02:37:57 PM
Within a month, client software will be ready, large scale marketing will require some time. If there was a marketing budget, better plans could be made as to how to allocate it. I think most all agree that NXT needs some significant increase in the number of NXT users. This requires marketing and sales. With user friendly clients, we can go to the mass market.

The first question is how much to allocate to marketing. Once we know this, we can work to allocate to the different marketing programs. I strongly believe in pay for performance marketing. A website nobody goes to has little value, even if it has a lot of good info. A confusing badly made website, still has value if it brings in NXT'ers.

We define a performance metric for marketing. We set a NXT value to that. We roll out massive pay for performance marketing plan. 100 BTC worth of pay for performance marketing is possible. That would make it the largest ever and become news worthy in and of itself.

James

Ok. Do it.

You shouldn't give encourage behaviors if they work under the assumption that they will be paid by the common pool of NXT, imho. This should be clear that CFB does not make spending decisions.
1451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 02:35:16 PM
Ripple was featured on top TV show: https://xrptalk.org/topic/949-ripple-debuts-on-%E2%80%9Ctv%E2%80%99s-no-1-new-show%E2%80%9D-%E2%80%93-nbc%E2%80%99s-the-blacklist/

2Kewl4Skewl has ripplegiveaway.com which is ripple faucet. Peercover supports NXT within ripple. Why not fund ripple NXT faucet? 50K NXT would get a lot of new exposure to people who are already in very similar demographic.

James

Why not? Create a poll.

Pin, can you create a poll for this? Also one for Marketing budget

James

salsacz has been working on marketing for sometimes without pay. She and I are working on our next promotional campaign but we are funded under a donor's bounty. I suggest you to do the same- find a donor for your marketing effort.

There shouldn't be any new spending category under the common fund until we have voting system and multi-signature acc in place, imho.

aright, or at least a funding committee is in place.

1452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 02:25:54 PM
The majority of un-claimed coins should be kept in tact for now and move to a multi-signature account later on. Unclaimed-coins belong to the community and there is no rush to spend right now. We don't want to go around begging donors when we have some real important works needed to be done in the future.

Nxt protocol doesn't have multisigs yet.

Then BCNext or you have to keep it for now until we develop multisigs. There shouldn't be any new arbitrary spending at the moment when everything is up in the air and everyone has all kind of opinions.  As I said earlier, there is no rush to new spending now. I am of the opinion to froze the fund until we have 1. voting system in place; 2. multisig acounts.

The second best option is to send everything back to the genesis. Any new spending other than previously announced are bad. We can do a whole lot of things more with 10 milllion NXT when 1 nxt=1 usd. Using that common pool of fund now is like selling NXT too cheap, imho .

So Froze the acount until we have 1. voting system in place; 2. multisig acounts.
1453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances BTC is replaced by something better soon? on: January 16, 2014, 02:10:27 PM
The blockchain approach is not ideal because you need knowledge of the entire past from the beginning of time to compute the current state(s). I would like to see something more robust. Are we going to see something better in the future? I'd say it's only a matter time.

You can prune a blockchain annually. There are techniques to do so, so no need to go back to the beginning of time.
1454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 01:50:22 PM
says who?

It's BCNext's plan. To fund development of clients and public nodes and still a lot of money r being left.

The majority of un-claimed coins should be kept in tact for now and move to a multi-signature account later on. Unclaimed-coins belong to the community and there is no rush to spend right now. We don't want to go around begging donors when we have some real important works needed to be done in the future.
1455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 01:45:06 PM
Can't we just give 50K to each entry in the list?

haha, someones feeling generous - or tired of administrative duty  Grin

3M r reserved for client/node support, but we still have to spend ~9M unclaimed coins.

There are many things ahead to spend. A global promotional campaign is not inexpensive if you want to feature Zhang Ziyi‎.  I suggest to stick to the initial plan and spend the fund wisely.
1456  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances BTC is replaced by something better soon? on: January 16, 2014, 12:52:57 PM
I see a future with a couple of prominent blockchains, each of which has its own specialty but also competing with each others. Bitcoin has chosen to be a payment specialist. They are now very conservative of changes. They don't want to apply zerocoin protocol because they are afraid of breaking the status quo. Read here

http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2014/01/13/bitcoin-anonymity-upgrade-zerocoin-to-become-its-own-cryptocurrency/

There is also a limit on how big a certain blockchain can be and that make the concept of multiple- blockchains co-existing inescapable. for example:  Zerocoin when it is out could have a special strength in anonymity and perhaps being adopted a lot by underground worlds, silk-road style vendors

NXT has a lot of potentials. All of its new features such as alias system, arbitrary message and upcoming decentralized asset exchange can make them the pioneer in certain areas such as decentralized stock exchange, pseudo internet gateway via alias system. I don't think NXT can match Bitcoin in being a payment specialist anytime soon. But they will probably be leading the way in several important new industries. The idea of a decentralized stock exchange is particularly exciting since it could unleash a lot of economic potentials hidden in communities without all the red tape from government's regulations .

Can someone send me 1 NXT ? not to beg or something but i never got the wallet to work.
I got it to work today but i dont know for sure so i want to test...

I am going to send it bback just to see how it works

Yep, go to a faucet. Don't want this thread flooded with beggars. Or go to the begging threads in NXT forums.

I can't find Ola's client. Could anyone give me a link to its screenshots?

Never seen one.  I think he is working on a poker game not a client.

Ah thank you ! I was asking for help from devs but no one is moving.
If bit777 add Nxt this will be the biggest promotion ever.
With what exactly can we help? what do you need?
Pin

Just helping him understand how the client work and how to implement it to his casino (considering the high traffic/transactions).
The Nxt client is very different from BitcoinQt.

This is a main problem we see also appear with exchange, people dont know how to implement it in they environment. Can we have somebody other than core DEVs JL and CfB to help people with this?

who is willing to do this?

Do we have someone other than core devs that could explain how NXT works and help them setup business; this is also in the interest of NXT

This should be documented somewhere, and be made the reference people are pointed to.

All the NXT APIs are in here http://www.thenxtwiki.org/wiki/For_Programmers. So the general information is there for everyone and if they have specific questions they can contact Cfb

Polls, polls, polls...

Polls on Bitcointalk are simply a reflection of the number of alt accounts you have.

So why would you want that to decide anything?

I wasn't referring to creating a poll in this cesspool called Bitcointalk, I meant on the community forums.  Yes, people will game the system... I'm suggesting simply checking the pulse, the same way we've handled other community actions in the past.

We can do open poll when people voice their support for a position openly. The final vote for the logo was done that way.

Example : https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1927.0.html

It is like the old-style town-hall meeting poll. "Raise your hands, please"
