This is the third thread on the issue of making decisions regarding NXT common fund following the first poll on the decision to form a funding committee to control the NXT common fund of unclaimed coin here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=418695.0 and the second poll on the basic working principle of the funding committee here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423241.0At this point, I think it is time to start the nomination process for the funding committee working on basics of the principle lay out in the second poll. Disclaimer: I have been suggested to be in the committee before but at this point I would respectably decline that honor due to other personal commitment. I suppose that if any nomination have a reason that he/ she can't be involved in the committee would also publicly decline that honor. After all the the nominations are collected, we can move to the next step of the actual voting for members on the committee. This could be discussed in details later but I hope no one objects a simple process of writing down the nominations if you want to be in the funding committee in this thread. Voting later could be for 5-9 committee members and 2-3 alternates. I would start by the nomination process by listing here some of my favorite people and also some people who have been suggested before, not in particular order. No need to know how to create bat file since there is also one click-installer in the nextcoin forum as I recalled. I personally brought 3 of my friends (total newbies) into NEM yesterday, today morning one of those people called me and said, that he also brought in his brother, but his brother is asking If his roommate can also get in  ... so maybe situation around new accounts is not so tragic. I think we're going to reach the 3k accounts really soon especially if and when the ads on reddit go online. I hope the time between reaching account limit and actual release of NEM won't be too long. I think that could cost us some tracktion. I have a plan for that. The key concept here is parallel development. Technical development goes along side with user base development and community building. |

There is no place for small start-up companies in established exchanges. In general it is very difficult for a small start-up to get 100K$ from anywhere except from from personal funds to start the business. Google AngelList and read about it. Anonymity is a niche thing as you can see how Bitcoin moves away from it as it grows mainstream. UP I am not talking about anonymous corporation which sound very futuristic and ultimately a very dubious concept, imho. I am talking about proper public companies with owners and shareholders. I talk about U.S law because you are more familiar with it but the principle should apply globally.
If we are talking about "proper public companies" then I don't see any reason why they wouldn't just stick to stock exchanges - there is nothing for them to gain but a bad reputation if they start listing on P2P Exchanges IMO. BTW - I am not a US citizen so its laws are actually not well known to me at all. Now talk about US in specifics, fundraising law is changing as we speak now. I have a big plan regarding this area and a model that could eventually surpass AngelList. In some countries, the process would even much easier. In some countries are harder. But in general the process to revolutionize the concept of fundrasing and stock exchage is pretty much parallel to process that Bitcoin revolutionize the concept of currency and payment.
I don't agree - the advantage that a P2P Exchange has is simply allowing anonymity. Any decent public company doesn't need that and so doesn't need P2P and the "bad rep" that comes with it. A "revolution" would be a company whose rules work entirely upon "math" and therefore "don't need" laws or lawyers. We may see that down the track but I don't think that Nxt Asset Exchange has been created with this in mind (nor what is being developed in at least most other similar projects). |

It does not matter if the company shares are listed in NYSE or NXT asset exchange; it matters whether that social contract is recognized by prevalent laws of the local authority. In U.S there is nothing to prevent a written contract to be enforced in the court of law even without a presence of a proper lawyer. So in theory, a small company can have their charter clearly written, raise the funding and list their shares in a decentralized stock exchanges and have the enforcement falls into the purview of the local authority. It could work and could become very popular in the future.
That is simply not going to work - the laws about public companies are very strict and very different in every single country (btw - stop thinking that the US is all that matters, please). So thinking that some sort of anonymous corporation would be covered by *any* specific countries laws just doesn't make sense (as they are contradictory). To have a corporation *work* in a decentralised manner means that lawyers and laws *must not apply*. It can only have meaning through a digital contract that is enforced by math and I don't think that the Asset Exchange feature is actually going to do this (Ethereum may get closer although I think Open Transactions probably the closest so far to achieving this). 99% Even if Nxt does beat others to having an Asset Exchange I wouldn't really put that much expectation in said *feature*. It will most likely be used by scammers to relieve people of their investments as has been seen many times with such attempts as GLBSE and the likes. I very much doubt I would ever invest in any sort of "share" in a "digital corporation" which would presumably be anonymous and able to simply run off without a trace at any time (although I would be pretty sure that there are 100+ new "pirateat40" types just waiting for this to be ready). Personally 1000 TPS is about 1000x more interesting to me than a P2P Asset Registry (which will not be recognised by law and therefore pretty much pointless). Some updates on Reddit direct advertising. As it turns out Reddit advertising demand greatly exceeds the supply of advertising slots in the Bitcoin sub-reddit.
I managed to book 1 day slot from 2/28 to 3/1 on the Bitcoin sub-reddit; fully paid for and ready to go.
The title is "A new kind of cryptocurrency. The first egalitarian coin. Join NEM to change the world " with the link go directly to our front page.
Litecoin sub-reddit is also fully booked even further out. So I turned to the Dogecoin sub-reddit. This ad would run from 2/5 to 2/7 for two days. The title is "Envy no more. The first egalitarian coin. Join the movement. NEM registration is open" with the link go directly to our front page.
These are trial runs and funded by my personal budget so we will have to see how effective they are. I will stop the "share the word to get a stake" after page 20 until 2 day of Doge sub-reddit advertising is over. We don't even know if the fundraising is still open on 2/28 when we have the Bitcoin subreddit advertising but at that point I expect that we would have much more details about NEM development plan and a good front site for NEM.
All of these ad are subject to approval by Reddit so nothing is certain yet.
Sounds great ! Are you still going for 4k accounts max or are you going to wing it if the ads really take off ? 2K is the minimum and I have no doubt we will get it. 4K is maximum but 3K would probably be easier to manage logistically. So 3K users could probably ideal but I will see how the fundraising is running in a one or two weeks and make the decision. |

I'm glad the question of anonymity and multi accounts is raised here.
If not, I see serious problems with the egalitarian initial distribution.
I personally would like to have the requirements rather strict. Providing telefone numbers or ID scans.
However it is handeled. The stricter the better.
Whoever is not okay with having himself scrutinized. Too bad, no free money for you.
this is just crazy, so we people sending real money will be giving out ID scans to completely anonymous people promising non existing NEM. LOL ID scans have been and are often used for scams, like taking loans on other peoples names. I would never send my ID, thats why Im not on MtGox. Only precious thing about crypto is anonymity... Suspicion is raised the moment an idea like the one mentioned is attacked so ferociously instead of working it out and thinking about a way to make it work without posting the information all over the internet. There are developers. Those are the guys that will distribute the coins once time comes. Sending ID Data to them, contacting them via skype. There are a lot of options. NXTs biggest point of criticism is, that the distribution was so very bad. Handing out the coins without further inspection will just lead to the same results again. Someone will have a lot more than others. You could also go for only seeing accounts of a certain age and activity as legit. But I'm sure in that case there won't be many people in here left. Yes, cryptos are about anonymity. They are also the wild scamming west. Cryptos are not about anonymity. Most coins out there are NOT anonymous. This is a myth that seems to be immortal. However someone being able to trace my payments back to my real name and someone wanting my ID are 2 very different things. I don't think sockpupets are a very big problem and therefore any counter meassure that requires a lot of time is a waste of said time. If we put that time into promotion and such we'd do a lot better. Look at the fresh accounts with minimal activity in this thread and the last and judge for yourself. The idea of having a timed messages seems to be very appealing though, as I can't see any direct angle of attack on that. Except people not getting the message, but too bad. It is a little price to pay. It's a reasonable amount of work with somewhat okay results. Not everyone having a claim on NEM will get them and not every sockpuppet will be filtered out. The solution is thus not optimal, but should encounter the least resistance. Well if you worry about fresh accounts, you better stop looking at the registration page because the number of them will explode when our direct advertisement on Reddit comes online in 2 days. |

I have decided to have a test-run of Reddit advertising. If you don't know about it yet, you could advertise in Reddit by placing a few short sentences and a link in the front page of reddit. It would always appear like a normal link in the first line of the page. I think we should target bitcoin subreddit first which has a huge amount of traffics from veteran bitcoiners to casual users. Later we could target doge subreddit as well.
We need a good taglines and then when people click in the link they will go to our front page. I have two already.
1. A new kind of cryptocurrency. The first egalitarian coin. Registration to NEM is now open.
2. A funnier one. Envy no more. Join the new crypto movement. Registration to NEM is now open.
Any other suggestions?
It would take a few days for them to approve the advertisements. I will temporarily stop all "sharing about NEM" promotion so we can better gauge the effect of direct advertising.

You have not responded to why you removed everyone's name from the development stake list who contributed to logo, currency design, and branding. I did that, and I am also managing the NEM twitter page ( http://www.twitter.com/nemcoin), so I should be receiving both a stake for branding work and a stake for media campaigns. Best, A. how is it impossible? he put his money where his mouth is. hes got HUGE balls as far as Im concerned with that offer. I can guarantee had I been one to claim that large a stake Id for sure come up with the proof for 1M NXT. hopefully it wont come to that. You should put a time limit on that offer though - like if someone does that they have to prove they accounts they used, and the winner must have had 5% before today. otherwise you'll have 50 retreads for sure hammering away at the task for 1M NXT. Yep that is for today. In fact it should be in 1 hour because there is a speculation around here that someone already claimed 25% of NEM. Thanks for reminding me. For the proof, just use your 100 accounts and pm opticalcarrier the same massage. Then that shows you are owners of these accounts. |
