21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suddenly I'm curious, do I need to pay taxes on Bitcoin income? on: April 30, 2024, 08:42:44 AM
Yes, you need to pay tax from your bitcoin income. If your boss is paying you in bitcoin and not fiat, you still have to pay your tax.

If you mean from the passive earning while you hold bitcoin? Crypto capital gains tax. You will need to read about crypto tax in your country to know about this. There are some countries that have the law already that you have to pay tax of certain percentage from the profit you make from your crypto holding. But that is only when you sell it. If you continue to hold it, no tax.
22  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Watch Only Wallet PSBT Error on: April 30, 2024, 08:35:05 AM
Maybe creating a standard wallet with the CSW seed would solve the problem but at the cost of exposing the seed to the internet. I didn't create a Multisig wallet so I don't know what happened, what is the best way forward?
The cold wallet is also a standard wallet but offline and not online which makes the difference. It is better the way you did it. Follow what Zaguru12 first quote and post and you will get it. Electrum will take you to the .pbst file directly in a way you can click on it to broadcast the transaction. If that is difficult for you, you can use QR code instead which is even better.

You can as well decide to update to a higher windows version like windows 10. You should also try to make sure that the electrum wallet version on both airgapped device and the online one is same
Electrum is not supporting lower version than Windows 10. Electrum version on airgapped and watch-only device do not have to be the same update version, most people do not like to update the cold wallet because they want to keep it out of external environment data aside PBST transactions, but updating the watch-only.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Samurai Wallet co-founder pleaded not guilty, released on $1m bond on: April 30, 2024, 07:17:40 AM
The government and regulators have always failed to deal with the money laundering in banks and in centralized institutions. Thieves, bandits, terrorism financing extremists will have money in banks but they are unable to deal with it. Cyber criminals are successfully able to collect fiat from their scammed victims. These so called regulators know just less than 1% of these fiat crimes but they can go against what is after crypto privacy is what they like. They are failures.
24  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Naira falls to 2 month-low of N1,419.11/$ as foreign inflows slow on: April 30, 2024, 06:52:52 AM
This is not new. It has been more than a week ago that naira depreciated to 1419 naira. It later fell below 1300 some days ago and fell to almost 1260 naira. The price of naira today is 1315 naira to a dollar.

The CBN is only trying to do what is not. Why should they increase naira value when it supposed not to. Even if they will increase it, from 1800 to 1100 naira is kind of too much. The market later correct itself to 1300 is what that happened.

Just when I think say things go soon better with the way the currency rate been dey high we now done dey experience depletion of naira this one off me.
The price of a currency does not matter. What matters is a stable economy and how the currency price is stable. The government are unable to give us these.
25  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: FX CRISIS: Opay, palmpay other fin tech barned from registering new customers on: April 29, 2024, 11:16:25 PM
CBN is just moving mad these days. While I applaud the commission for trying to remedy the situation, I feel like they are going about it the wrong way. Rather than directly try to improve the economy, CBN is devoting all resources for a temporary fix which in my opinion will go kablowey
Temporary fix or manipulation? There was inflation and the CBN increased naira value. They turned the definition of inflation upsidedown. I made a topic today to let us know that local products supposed to have been cheaper than what they are. You can see it here:

What has the FCCPC achieved?

CBN wrong moves made all these happened with side effects.

They forgot there are some things that need to be stabilized apart from the dollar, they kept doing things blindly with no one to correct them or maybe they are not just taking corrections.
You are correct.
26  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: FX CRISIS: Opay, palmpay other fin tech barned from registering new customers on: April 29, 2024, 11:05:34 PM
Or is it possible that bank owners can liaise with the government to place this kind of ban just to get people back from using these fin tech companies that has gradually taken the Nigerian financial system from banks?
What's your view on this?
Why will the government fight in favour of the other? Both are offering financial services to Nigerian citizens; they are all licensed, they all pay taxes, and they have policies that they abide by, so why will the government work with some banks and commercial bank owners to limit their competitors services?
There is nothing impossible if this is the case but I also think this is not what actually happened but it is possible. All I think is that the CBN will investigate and later tell the companies to start accepting new customers if not guilty or make amendment that will not let what they alleged to be happening anymore. But Nigeria problem is more than this. I do not think they have intention to cease these Fintech operation in Nigeria.
27  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: FX CRISIS: Opay, palmpay other fin tech barned from registering new customers on: April 29, 2024, 10:54:38 PM
Why not just add the link. Like this: Forex deals: CBN stops 4 fintechs from onboarding new customers

Isn't this an attack on anything that's decentralized and void of government regulations?
There is nothing decentralized about this. They are all centralized.

What's your view on this?
They will see something to talk about just like how they made everyone to believe that crypto exchanges was the cause of naira value depreciation. CBN said it and started increasing naira value to make people believe.

They manipulated naira price down and inflation increased but they were unable to control the inflation but increase the value of naira back. This CBN should be investigated for manipulation. The CBN are only looking for solution where there is no solution.
28  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / What has the FCCPC achieved? on: April 29, 2024, 04:18:45 PM
The price of meat increased. The price of bread did not fall. 5Alive and others prices are still not decreased in price. Should I say thanks to Dangote for crashing the price of AGO. We heard that the government refinery in Port Harcourt will be fully functional in April, but you can see fuel scarcity again instead and this is 28th of April. Fuel that we expected to be sold for 500 naira per liter is still 650 naira per liter.

Because of price control of local products, the federal government told Federal Competition & Consumer Protection (FCCPC) to try to regulate the price of goods in the country. They locked supermarket and doing as if something good as been done but nothing is coming down in price.

Two or three days ago, see what Indomie company’s Group Corporate Communications and Event Manager said in an interview:

Temitope Ashiwaju, the company’s Group Corporate Communications and Event Manager, made the clarification in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Lagos.

Ms Ashiwaju said that the clarification became imperative to correct the wrong narrative about the reason for price adjustment for the product recently. He said that the company was also affected by the economic realities, hence the reason for increase in prices of indomie noodles in the past.

“For a listening company such as ours, we felt at some point in time, against our operational cost to adjust when things started to improve. “We had a price reduction, which is not one of those characters that is usually found with some other companies.

“Nigerians are quick to adjust prices when it is going up and favour them, but when prices go down, they are slow to do that. This is not our character at Indomie,” he said

The government were able to manipulate the price of naira up and the price of AGO also continue to increase which makes those local firms and companies to increase the price of goods and services, making the retail prices to be significantly high. Now the price of naira increased, AGO price decreased but most local products prices has not reduced and some still increased in price. Just Indomie and rice price that I know decreased in price among the consumable products. Almost all other products prices are still high.
29  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Jamb 18 years benchmark for admission, what's your take? on: April 29, 2024, 08:03:27 AM
They want the 16 and 17 years brilliant students to stay at home until 18 or to seek for admission in other countries. They just like to frustrate everyone in Nigeria. I was 2 years older than my best female course mate friend while we were in university, she got admission when she was 17 but she was brilliant than me despite that I was brilliant. She was 16 when she passed UTME.

That is not all, I have someone that passed WAEC and UTME three years ago, but she was not given admission. She scored 249 last year but the school she applied to did not give her admission. They said 250 is the cut-off Mark for the course she wants to go for. This was similar to how she lost the admission the last time. Although, lucky she went for another course in another school.

To enter university is wahala. If you get to the university, they will use strikes to delay you. You may even experience 3 or 6 months strike. You will graduate and be unemployed or underemployed. I do not know people that can be stupid to make this stupid laws as if they do not have children or grandchildren.

They should continue to frustrate Nigerians with their foolish laws.
30  Other / Meta / Re: ThemePen - Merit Source Application on: April 29, 2024, 07:39:35 AM
I'm not familiar with ThemePen, his posts, or his merit-giving history other than what was shown here but I agree.
Pakistanis on this forum should still consider themselves lucky as they have shahzadafzal. I do not think theymos is thinking of increasing the merit source for now. I sent him a message few days ago but he has the habit of not replying to messages which is very annoying. I will say good luck to ThemePen, but he should not expect anything except theymos wants to add more merit sources. I do not think there is exceptional cases until then. Nigeria is the third highest local board posters. On the statistics he posted in the OP, Nigeria was the second highest poster on local board in that month, but theymos is not considering that maybe as we have merit support from posters that are not Nigerians. We have many good posts that are not given merit that I see almost all the time. Probably ThemePen may be experiencing what I am experiencing. Another thing is that it is always surprising me that 98 or 99% of my merits are still from English board posters on 95% or more of my English board posts if compared to my local board posts, that is because I am lazy to be submitting my posts on local board merit giveaway thread. But I am also lazy to submit my posts also on low merited but quality posts threads on English board either. I am not insinuating that the giveaway to quality posts is not good, it is actually good.
31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Pending BTC xfer on: April 28, 2024, 07:10:43 PM
Even without acceleraton by ViaBTC the transaction would've been confirmed latest on 2024-04-25 as mempool congestion was reduced gradually and transaction in fee range of 60sats/vB were confirmed on their own.
Try to think about this again. Is this your comment necessary? What if the mempool is still congested up till now. The transaction was submitted on ViaBTC free accelerator and it was confirmed after ViaBTC mine their next block.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Samourai Wallet - BTC Recovery on: April 28, 2024, 07:03:25 PM
Did you successfully recover your wallet?
I think he forgot to use passphrase while trying to recover the wallet before. And I also think he has been able to recover the wallet with the right seed phrase and the passphrase.

I think the 'not' was a typo for 'now'.

Anyone that has the seed phrase and the passphrase will find the recovery easy on wallets that support BIP39 seed phrase and passphrase.

Only open source wallets are recommended.
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Samourai Wallet - BTC Recovery on: April 28, 2024, 05:40:55 PM
and after every recovery the amount was 0.000000 on all Wallets).
I think the mistake most you did was that Samourai will first ask you to input your passphrase but most of you do not know what passphrase is. After the passphrase, you will set the wallet pin or password. After the wallet creation, you will be able to click at the menu/image at the top left corner where you will see 'settings' -> 'wallet' and click on it to see your seed phrase and other necessary information.

I wanted to bypass the passphrase but I was unable to and you can see what it displayed at the bottom of that image. You must use passphrase unless you want to recover a wallet that does not support passphrase which you did not generate its seed phrase on Samourai.

Which means you need a passphrase for the wallet and not just BIP39 seed phrase. Did you use the passphrase?

If you did not include the passphrase, it will generate different keys and addresses for you.
34  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bech32 addresses vs. bech32m addresses: which ones are cheaper for tx? on: April 28, 2024, 03:13:02 PM
Segwit version 0 has lower fee than segwit version 1 (pay-to-taproot).

But if you want to consolidate, pay-to-taproot has lower fee.

If you are sending to many addresses like campaign managers on this forum, or your transaction outputs are always far more than the transaction inputs, it is good to use segwit version 0. If you are sending from 1 input to 1 output or 2 outputs, segwit version 0 is lower in fee also. The only time P2TR is of lower fee is when you are no consolidating your high inputs or when the transaction inputs will be far more.
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What is the important of running a node? on: April 27, 2024, 04:16:29 PM
Nodes keep the entire blockchain and also validate new transactions and blocks.
How about prune nodes? They are also nodes but they do not keep the entire blockchain. Although, prune nodes have significant disadvantage.
36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What is the important of running a node? on: April 27, 2024, 04:00:47 PM
in other words I understand node to be the people who shear thesame information on the blockchain network, which is done by the miner in an open Ledger.
Node runners can be miners or mining pool but some node runners are not miners. Nodes helps in the decentralized network and in validation of blocks and transactions. Nodes are not involved in mining but in routing of necessary information to other nodes.

I understand also that the information on first block will generate another block after 10 minutes which the whole information will be shared among the nodes.
You mean block are mined every 10 minutes? It is on average of 10 minutes but the next block can be mined at any time. It can take less than 1, 2 or 3 minutes, I can take less than 5 minutes, it can take more than 40 minutes. But on average of 10 minutes.

But my question now is that how does this explanation works when running a node on a PC?
All that you need is to run a node. Example is to download Bitcoin Core and use it to download the blockchain which will take over 500 gigabyte to download. You will have to always or most of the time connect online to receive and pass necessary information about bitcoin transaction from and to other nodes.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Please HELP: Sent ETH through Arbitrum instead of ERC20 network - Anything I can on: April 27, 2024, 02:00:00 PM
Deribit not supporting Arbitrum layer 2?

There is nothing you can do if Deribit is not supporting Arbitrum network than to contact their customer care. Supposing you sent it to a noncustodial wallet, only what is needed is the seed phrase or private key to have access to your coin.
38  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has Anyone Used This Crypto Recovery Service? on: April 27, 2024, 07:00:24 AM
Get a lawyer and report to the police or crime investigation team in your country. If you follow such a process, there is still a chance that you may not get the lost funds back.

So an attorney would have the knowledge and skill to trace that transaction and be able to get the name and address of the scammer?
Tracing the coin is the work of chain analytic companies. You can try and trace it yourself to a centralized exchange with a tool. But if the person do not send it to a centralized exchange, consider the money gone, especially if it is a low amount of money that you will spend more much than if investigating the scammer.
39  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Problem with importing my samourai wallet on: April 27, 2024, 06:53:26 AM
I have a wallet with passphrase, I import it from Unstoppable wallet to Electrum and Samourai wallet and they all work. They have the same addresses and the imports were successful. There is something you are not just getting right.

m/44'/0'/0' for bitcoin addresses that start from 1
m/49'/0'/0' for bitcoin addresses that start from 3
m/84'/0'/0' for bitcoin addresses that start from bc1

You can go to Samourai wallet to know which character your bitcoin address starts from.

You can also try Bluewallet which can automatically search for funded addresses for you. But I have used Electrum most often and it does the work perfectly.
40  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Dangote: Forex shortage delays crude supplies on: April 26, 2024, 09:07:35 PM
Is there something they are not telling us? Could it be that he is literally importing an already refined product and claims it is been refined there in his refinery?

Ideally there shouldn’t even be a need for Dangote refinery to even import crude oil from other countries to refine in the first place.

Crude oil production in Nigeria decreased. Nigeria that was the highest producer become the second to Libya.

Libya has emerged as the highest crude oil producer in Africa following the drop of Nigeria's output by 6.8 per cent to 1.23 million barrels per day in March 2024, from 1.32 bpd in February 2024.

One of the reasons is because of crude oil production challenges in Nigeria.

Maybe these are  also part of the reasons: https://www.nairaland.com/7989514/5-reasons-aliko-dangote-sourcing
