201  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Dont Buy a second hand phone from people you dont know on: April 07, 2024, 03:25:44 PM
Buying second hand phone no dey advisable because you can't tell where the phone is coming from. Many people don enter problem by buying second hand phone that was a stolen one. Apart from second hand phone been a stollen one sometimes e fit be phone wey dey very faulty and buying it to use will cause lot of stress repairing the phone always. The issues that comes with a second hand phone is very complicated.
The reason some people buy second hand phone is because they do not have the money to buy a new phone. Second hand phones are cheap. But it would be better to buy a used phone from a phone seller instead. OP is right because he said buying it from an unknown person. If I know a person very well and I do not have enough money to buy a new phone, I can buy phone from the person especially if he wants to get a new one and want to sell his phone. But if the person that want to sell phone is not known, that is not a good idea. But you are also right that second hand phone can not be good as new but not everyone can afford new phone of certain specifications that they want.

Coinbase.com is not a noncustodial wallet but a custodial wallet. But there is a noncustodial wallet that Coinbase also has but which I can not also recommend anyone.

For small amount, you can use Electrum or Sparrow.

For big amount, you can use Passport or Trezor. If you have an old laptop that you are no more using, you can use it to setup airgapped device and have cold wallet on it.
203  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Now dollar is #1,400/Naira. Will the prices of food items and commodity reduce? on: April 07, 2024, 10:47:55 AM
Government for sure can't accept that amount but there is need for increment in government worker's salary as things are so costly this day that it's even very difficult to cut expenses. No matter how small be added to their salary will still be helpful.
What about those that are earning in dollars? This is not about minimum wage but about the increase in the value of naira while the cost of goods and services are still increasing. If the minimum wage increases, do you not know there will be more inflation? Although, the government are working towards increasing the minimum wage. Some people are speculating that the minimum wage will be increased on workers day but I do not know if that will be true or not.
204  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do i manage my time? on: April 07, 2024, 10:42:09 AM
Move this to off-topic.

Health is wealth. If you can not cope with the two, you have to quite one for one. Go for the one that is best for you.
205  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be cautious when copying wallet addresses on: April 06, 2024, 08:02:53 PM
The suggestion should be you should rather store your coins on a device that you have never used to browse the internet before or an hardware wallet. And it doesn’t just end there make sure to cross check your transaction details before broadcasting your transaction, you never can be too sure even on an assumed clean device
Exactly. Even dust attack and address poisoning is possible on clean devices. But the one that has been reported led to coin loss is address poisoning as the attacker make use of address similar to the victim's address.
206  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be cautious when copying wallet addresses on: April 06, 2024, 07:55:24 PM
It is better to check and recheck the address that you are sending to someone before sending the address. It is better you check and recheck the address that you are sending coins to before sending the coin.

Bitcoin transactions are irreversible after 6 confirmations, once confirmed it's gone.
After 1 confirmation, it is gone. If the transaction does not support replace-by-fee, the coin has likely gone even when it is not yet confirmed. Even if the transaction support replaced-by-fee, it is possible that it might have been too late.
207  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why storing trust wallet in a hardware more recommendable than i mobile devices on: April 06, 2024, 03:12:42 PM
Phones and laptops or other online devices are not as safe as cold wallets like wallet on an airgapped device or airgapped hardware wallets and some hardware wallets that are reputed.

Phone is riskier because you are carrying it about but laptop is not also that safe.

Just as hosseinimr93 posted already, Trustwallet is close source. Not recommendable at all. Better use open source wallets.
208  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: FG to unveil new NIN card with payment capability: on: April 06, 2024, 12:44:58 PM
I was given the temporary card in 2014, I went back for the permanent card in 2020 when I did not receive call from them since many years. All they could say is that I should come back, that only people that collected the temporary card in 2013 are the ones that are available at the time. I have no option than to go to cyber cafe to print it myself to plastic. A country that is giving its citizens the temporary card and not the permanent and yet citizens waiting for them without calling the citizens to come for their permanent card.
209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network: A failure? on: April 06, 2024, 08:12:50 AM
What do you think? Is the LN a failure? If not, why? Should we give it more time to mature? What is the main reason most exchanges, merchants and/or businesses haven't adopted it yet?
Lightning network adoption is increasing but just that is is slow. More exchanges have lightning network deposit and withdrawal already. Binance included lightning network last year, there are other exchanges like OKX that has lightning network also.

210  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [banned mixer] yomix Scam Attention, everyone, stay away immediately!! on: April 06, 2024, 07:58:30 AM
Unfortunately the said mixer has an issue, there is an ongoing discussion of them regarding their exit scam on this thread[1], also it was labeled a possible problem on the altcoinstalks thread mentioned above.

[1] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?qtopic=5477452.msg63892572#msg63892572
That link is a link to the forum home page.

Weird situation. Consider this is a fake accusation [I am not saying it is fake] the mixer representative has no way to defend their service. Anyway, an scam accusation is not a promotion but a warning. Theymos also did not give a clear explanation about scam accusations I think, did he?
We can still mention the name of the mixers but just the link is not acceptable. We can continue to discuss about the scam accusation but I noticed that YoMix is no more active after the ban. Or maybe he should send him a message.
211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do not forget your Bitcointalk account password!!! on: April 06, 2024, 07:16:21 AM
So tell me if you have had such experience of not being able to login to your Bitcointalk forum account due to password issues, and how did you feel about it. Let's discuss.
I will go for password reset which will be through a link sent me through email. I have written my password several times to the extent that I may not forget it. Although, I should not rely on memory and that makes me have the password backup somewhere. The password is strong enough against hacking and I use only the official forum link to login and not a hacker's link.
212  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [banned mixer] yomix Scam Attention, everyone, stay away immediately!! on: April 06, 2024, 06:54:46 AM
We are not supposed to posts about mixers anymore on this forum, so this will not make me give you what you can do on this forum, but it would be good if you can go to Altcoinstalks to complain about it but I have not seen Yo!Mix on Altcoinstalks before. It will be good if you also complain about the mixer there. Also you can ask about what to do on the mixers thread on the forum to know if they can give you good information about how you may be able to recover your coins back. LIST - Bitcoin mixers & Tumbler services! ✅✅. In case of next time, I can recommend Unijoin.
213  Other / Meta / Re: What is the policy regarding AI generated images on the forum? on: April 06, 2024, 06:45:07 AM
Lately I've been generating images with AI on a private level and for entertainment. It has occurred to me that at some point I might add some to a post but I would like to be clear that I am not breaking any rules. In any case it would be as an addition to what I write and making clear that it is an image generated with AI.
Even if you do not make it clear for people to know if it is AI generated or not, it is not against any rules on this forum to post any images that you want, be it AI generated or not AI generated. Just make sure you have quality posts. You even want to generate the AI images yourself which is also not against any rules on this forum.
214  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is investing in exchange tokens profitable? on: April 05, 2024, 10:33:55 PM
So because they are centralize they are not advisable to buy? Well I think some of these centralize coins are worth buying even though they are centralize especially in a pump period like this. Binance is already big exchange and they are already alot of investors buying their BNB coins which has already given it such high market cap value but the only disadvantage is that if anything happens to the exchange your coins will also be greatly affected or even lost forever.
You have answered your question yourself and I bolded it for you. If the exchange got into a problem, there is possibility that the problem may lead to a significant fall in the coin price just like what happened to FTT when FTX imploded before it started rising again. Also as the coins are getting larger marketcap, they are not performing like bitcoin or their performance is similar to bitcoin performance. The ones with small marketcap may have huge volatility which could be a total loss during bear market.
215  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is investing in exchange tokens profitable? on: April 05, 2024, 08:51:21 PM
Investing in exchange project e better pass all those airdrops memecoins and shitcoins. BNB is very slow in movement and I think OKB is more faster than BNB. But if you like to invest, I will advise you to invest in OKB instead of BNB because since BNB is not accepting peer to peer again in the country di matter go fit affect you although people dey save coins there and transfer it o another exchanges and sell or trade am there but dat one now na extra cost for the person.
You can still be able to sell BNB on Binance and few other exchanges. So what should this do with P2P on Binance that was disable for Nigerians not to access? In marketcap, BNB is the fourth largest cryptocurrencies. But I will not advise anyone to go for those centralized coins because bitcoin is more decentralized.
216  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Boring Market Right Now. What You Got? on: April 05, 2024, 08:44:24 PM
I dey feel you too bro because trading no be for everybody, e better make you stay your lane and do the way wey you sabi do. Regards to staking, you no go fit stake btc but you fit stake some others but there return too no go too dey much. I know say you fit stake dogecoin, cartesi, shiba etc, you fit check for binance.

Although, Doge developers may move from PoW to PoS but I do not think that has been done and doge is still using PoW. Or is doge now using PoS?

If doge is still PoW, just like bitcoin, it can not be staked.

There are also altcoins pegged with bitcoin price that can be staked.
217  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make we dey very careful about Bitcoin minimum deposit for some exchange on: April 05, 2024, 08:35:20 PM
See dem weti dem tok for di minimum deposit.
It is 0.0005 and this is equivalent to NGN42,082.00 as for now. Meaning anything wey e dey below that amount is for them and that is nonsense. That means Binance was still the best.

In Binance you can trade with 0.00006 and buyers are everywhere. OKX na scam. Deactivating do app soon.
I do not know why you included that you can trade 0.00006 BTC on Binance. Trading on Binance requires at least $10. But this thread is about minimum deposit. Why did you later discussing about trading? Minimum deposit for bitcoin on Binance is 1 sat.

This would make Binance a better exchange than Okx because why should okX, upon confirming the transaction take the coins without funding the account it is supposed to be deposited in, instead of automatically cancelling the transaction having not met the minimum standard?
I have already explained this above that OKX is using multisig wallet. But that should still not be the reason the exchange minimum deposit limit should be that high. I see no more reasons and it seems more like a scam.

Also, I think if we are able to navigate the settings in our exchange apps, we can toggle the notification buttons, so as to receive steady updates on upgrades and news bothering on the exchange. It has sure helped me to know the exact thing to do like when my old address expired and I had to follow the notifications instructions to get the new one.
I do not think notification is important about this. It can be important for other reasons but anytime someone wants to deposit bitcoin, it is better to just check at that time the minimum deposit limit.
218  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is this the beginning of crude oil by-products price dropping? on: April 05, 2024, 08:24:14 PM
Dangote is not only a business man, he is also a politician, you cant except someone like him who have already been suffering a lot from the downgrade on naira value to also loose more in bringing down the price of the markets on what he sells, he wouldn't do that, instead work on anything that comes on his own advantages.
Did you mean that it has a reason he started to sell AGO at low price? For naira not to fall more? Indirectly, if there is inflation in the country, it will also affect the price of naira in a way that it will depreciate in price and that will have negative effect on Dangote's wealth which will depreciate. If that is what you meant, I agree with you but it would be a win to win because Nigerians will also benefit from the fall in price of AGO.
219  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Boring Market Right Now. What You Got? on: April 05, 2024, 09:20:50 AM
You can not stake bitcoin because bitcoin is using PoW algorithm. You can see staking bitcoin on exchanges but they are centralized and I think the staking reward is from the money the exchange made in one way or the other. You have no full control on exchanges and you should not even hold your coins on exchanges. Bitcoin can be boring at time. It can even be depressing at times. But those that hold in long term still see the most profit. Patience is good.
220  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Government demanding from Binance the lists of its Nigerian users on: April 05, 2024, 08:05:12 AM
The Binance case has been adjourned to April 19.

UPDATED: Court adjourns Binance tax evasion case till April 19

At the proceedings on Thursday, Binance and Anjarwalla were absent and had no legal representation in court.

Counsel for the FIRS, Moses Ideh, told the court that the plaintiff was unable to serve the second defendant, Gambaryan, the charge in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s custody.

He noted that the bailiff was also denied access to the defendant.

Ideh said, “We have not been able to serve a copy of the charge on the second defendant. We mobilised the court bailiff to serve the second defendant but he was denied access, too. I will be making an application to serve him this morning.”

About tax evasion, I also think the government would win. Binance made money from P2P from Nigerians but not paying taxes. The exchange is not registered in Nigeria. We should also blame Binance because before you can serve the people of a nation, you suppose to register in such nation.
