721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Concerning Malwares on: January 08, 2024, 08:44:38 AM
•What damages can a malware cause to your wallet?
Malware may not likely damage your wallet. What malware will do is to steal your keys so that the hacker that steal it can use it to spend your coins. Malware may not steal your keys but able to make you send to a wrong address, like the clipboard malware. So malware will most likely compromised your wallet instead.

•What are the signs that your wallet being attacked by malwares?
There may be no sign until it is too late after your coins have been stolen. But there are sometimes that you may notice, like the clipboard malware in which the address you copy would not be the address your clipboard will paste. That is a sign of malware. But the most important thing is to avoid malware instead.

To clean your device from malware, format it completely and reinstall its OS.

•How can it be prevented?
Use cold wallet instead, like wallet on an airgapped device https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html

Or you can get yourself a hardware wallet.

Learn about multisig wallet
https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/multisig.html

Online wallets are not safe.

Make sure you avoid malware. Do not click on ads, avoid downloading torrent files and visit only the correct URLs.
722  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: [Guide]How you go create your customized Bitcoin-Address (vanitygen)–stepbystep on: January 08, 2024, 07:14:07 AM
Assuming I am a merit source, I would have come with the idea that who among us creates customized addresses with the use of vanitygen will be given 2 or 3 merits each.

If you generate customized address that starts with 1. It is worth knowing that the address is uncompressed. You know that legacy addresses starts from 1. I they are compressed which are the ones that wallet are generating, they still have higher fee while making transaction if compared with segwit addresses. But uncompressed legacy addresses will have higher fee than compressed legacy addresses.
723  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is school really a scam? on: January 08, 2024, 06:44:16 AM
School is not scam. But we should not depend on government to provide job for us. We should try all possible means to look for ways to earn money.

I’ve come across a master degree holder pushing wheelbarrow in the market just to survive.
I do not believe this. There are better jobs that a master degree holder will see immediately in Nigeria. Although, it will be underemployed, but far better than pushing wheelbarrow that uneducated people are the one doing.
724  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Cancel Mycelium Transaction on: January 08, 2024, 06:14:13 AM
I do not control the wallet I'm sending to. It is to a private company.
You can only do two things here:

1. Follow hosseinimr93's advice; or
2. You pay acceleration service to mining pool.

With the current discussion that talk about ETF, I don't think we will see mempool went empty very soon.
The first option is what he should do to be able not to spend too much on fee. The transaction would have dropped from most nodes mempool and this will make it easy to use wallet like Electrum to spend the coin again as it will become a local transaction. No need to use any paid accelerator as they charge high amount in fee to pay them.
725  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Cancel Mycelium Transaction on: January 07, 2024, 08:33:15 PM
Something I want go understand though, can OP really change the server on an already initiated and unconfirmed transaction?
With or without broadcasted transaction, your SPV wallet will synchronize with the blockchain with the help of the servers. If you want, with or without broadcasted transaction that is not yet confirmed, you can change the server from automatic to manual and connect from one server to another if you want.

On Electrum, at the top right corner on mobile or at the lower right corner on desktop, you will a see green or blue circle. Click on the circle and uncheck 'select server automatically'. On mobile, click on the green or blue circle -> network -> server settings. Below you will see lists of servers that you can select anyone of your choice manually. After, let your wallet synchronize with the blockchain again.

There are different servers and each have its own mempool. Some servers may still have an unconfirmed transaction in their mempool while some may not have the unconfirmed transaction anymore as they have dropped the transaction from their mempool. If you are connecting from one server to another one by one, you may be able to see if your transaction as been dropped from one of these servers so you will be able to rebroadcast the coin again in another transaction.

If the purging has not increased above the fee you used for your transaction, it may take 14 days before your unconfirmed transaction could have been dropped from most nodes/servers mempool as it is the default, but some nodes/servers runners can edit it and make the days longer and still have the unconfirmed transaction in their mempool, but most nodes would have dropped it from their mempool and you will be able to broadcast the coin again in another transaction.
726  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: send transactions status Unconfirmed after 12 hours on: January 07, 2024, 02:04:22 PM
If your transaction purpose is not urgent and you're not ready to spend more than 20 says/vbyte to get it confirmed, you can allow it to be dropped by nodes.
He supposed not be able to broadcast such transaction because nodes are not accepting a transaction below the purging. I am doubting it that it may be a local transaction.

@markrockny
Are you sure that it is not a local transaction? If not, it is better to increase the fee rate. 35 sat/vbyte is enough as fee rate. You can make use of https://mempool.space/ to know the fee rate to use. If it is a local transaction, you can also use 35 sat/vbyte to broadcast it.
727  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: cNGN, a consortium-backed stable coin on: January 07, 2024, 10:28:12 AM
Stakeholders analyze prospects of cNGN stablecoin.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/nigerias-cbdc-past-lingers-stakeholders-analyze-prospects-of-cngn-stablecoin

Quote
Cointelegraph contacted Nigerian cryptocurrency industry stakeholders to get comments on the possible adoption rate for cNGN. Speaking with Nigerian crypto analyst Rume Ophi, he opined that the nation’s crypto community will appreciate the new stablecoin.

According to Ophi, the success of the cNGN depends on how much publicity it gets and the consortium’s efforts in educating the community on its features and capabilities. He further stated that most exchange platforms will likely list the cNGN as Nigeria is Africa’s hotspot for crypto.

Let us see what would happen. I was guessing the reasons for the adoption of cNGN would be for remittance and also for those abroad to be able to have easy access to naira (I mean naira-pegged token cNGN) for holding. But as it has naira value and as naira price is declining, this will discourage some people.

Some people will prefer fiat-pegged coins like USDT which has minimal price declination. But let use see what would happen.

The date set for the launch of cNGN is 27th of February 2024.
728  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Cancel Mycelium Transaction on: January 07, 2024, 06:47:47 AM
I am looking to cancel my Mycelium transaction that has been unconfirmed for over a month. I did not have a large enough fee and Mycelium does not have RBF to increase the fee. It is "pending" on blockchaincom. Please help me hash is 72237bfb5debec1f4682b48ab1b72a31d7138840d521729bc575fa081ef1a797
The fee that you used is 8.655 sat/vbyte, but the purging is around 22.1 sat/vbyte. Most nodes have dropped your transaction. Import your seed phrase on a wallet like Electrum and you should be able to rebroadcast the coin in a new transaction again.
729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: btc sent by broker 3 weeks ago and still not received in wallet on: January 07, 2024, 12:06:10 AM
The address I requested that it be sent to is:  3Qh75NiwVWjqb2UGmnTmKUP57NLMEAvTYW and the amount was $100.
Which was the last transaction of the coin received on the address. On December 22nd, 2023. Contact CashApp customer care.
730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: btc sent by broker 3 weeks ago and still not received in wallet on: January 06, 2024, 10:39:29 PM
I'll contact the broker again.  They say they've sent it and there's nothing they can do.  CashApp has nothing to offer me whatsoever.
On your account on the broker site, you will see the txid on the withdrawal history. Click on it to get the txid and use it to track the coins on blockchain explorer. If you see the coin confirmed already on a blockchain explorer, that means the coin has been sent. Or if you are able to track it using the address you have above. You will only need to contact CashApp customer care instead.

Let me ask you a question to be certain that the coin was sent. Let us know the address you sent the coin to and also include the amount that you sent.
731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: btc sent by broker 3 weeks ago and still not received in wallet on: January 06, 2024, 10:15:56 PM
You sent the coin from your account on a broker's site to CashApp. The transaction has been confirmed on blockchain but not seen on your CashApp wallet. That means you will have to keep contacting CashApp customer care to let them know about the problem.

That is one of the reasons you need to use a noncustodial wallet which you will have the full control over your coins because you have the keys.
732  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / 15% annual profit on: January 06, 2024, 01:57:53 PM
I saw this few days ago. It was on Opay. Banks and Fintechs are using these to encourage people to hold their naira to yield daily profit. But this is when the money is fixed and not moved for a year. I saw this message but I know that bitcoin halving is getting nearer and I am expecting bitcoin all-time-high some months after.

That text in purple may be misleading, as it is about the withdrawal that you can withdraw at anytime, not the deposit but the profit.

I can not be so foolish to leave bitcoin and hold naira for 15% annual ROI. The funniest thing is that immediately I saw this on OPay, the news I read next was that naira has depreciate in value against dollar. We have no confidence in naira because of inflation and persistent rise in the price of goods and services as a result of naira price declination.

100% security of your funds? Although, it is likely. But is there anything secure like the coin that I have its private key and 100% control of the coins with the keys multisiged on secure devices?
733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Amount of BTC lost over time? on: January 06, 2024, 11:07:25 AM
I've never seen anyone put the average of lost BTC estimations over time on a chart. The closest we can get are the "supply last active N years ago" type of charts, but they lack context.

I would be highly interested on historical data of the aggregated amount of coins claimed to be lost over time. If you know a reliable source, please share!
If you see it, it will not be accurate and it would be full of misinformation. This is because you can not know the total amount of lost bitcoin. There are some coins that have not been moved since long time ago but which are not lost, but while some are lost. Know one can know the total amount of lost bitcoin because you can not know if the owner of inactive coins still has the private key or not.
734  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Safe guard your seed phrase. on: January 06, 2024, 10:59:43 AM
Paper backup is better.
The paper backup is not that safe too, because if the paper is affected by water and a word or 2 is missing, you are likely to also lose it. I think the paper written pass phrase should also be laminated and kept in a file to avoid being affected by water or moisture. Just like most documents were destroyed during the flood. Or it is also important to also have another alternative backup like a hard-disk drive and also. Back up in Gmail. By translating it to another language. Incase gmail is hacked they would not know the meaning of those words. Or you can rearrange it in your Gmail maybe turning it upsidedown where no 10 becomes no 1 and no 9 becomes no 2 continuesly. For example
1. Man.                       1. wealth
2. Success.                2. Quote
3. Behavior.                3. Whale
4. Delight.                   4. Diet
5. Grace.       VS.        5. Danger
6. Danger                    6. Grace
7. Diet.                         7. Delight
8. Whale.                     8. Behavior
9. Quote.                     9. Success
10.wealth                  10. Man

Though i know it's 12 seed pass phrase but by so doing of moderating your pass phrase some times can make it hard for Hackers to know your pass phrase this is my own mathematical rearrangement you can also do your own .

If 12 word seed phrase is not in an order, it will not take more than some minutes to some hours a bruth forcing tool can be used to rearrange it depending on your hardware computational power.

If you want alternative like the use of flash drive, you can make use of airgapped computer to encrypt the flash drives.

If you are in a place that you know is prone to environmental hazard, having a far location backup would be better. During environmental hazard like flooding, earthquake, the destruction can make it impossible for you to access your seed phrase in that location. The seed phrase might be lost forever, even if you laminate it or not.
735  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Safe guard your seed phrase. on: January 06, 2024, 09:23:08 AM
Some people dey share their phones with their friends, so it is better not to save this ur seed phrase in ur mobile phones or even ur google account because hackers fit get access to this ur seed phrases anytime them yet get small opportunity.
Not also advisable to store seed phrase iny phone and other online devices because of online attacks. An online device can be infected with malware.

Paper backup is better.

For offline security, extending the seed phrase with passphrase will generate different keys and addresses. But if the passphrase backup is lost, just like the seed phrase backup, the coin is no more accessible but lost. Advisable to backup both the seed phrase and passphrase differently in different locations.
736  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Using QR codes as Bitcoin address protection on: January 06, 2024, 08:40:34 AM
A good wallet, exchange and other bitcoin service provider will generate you an address and its QR code. You do not need a third party service for that. If a wallet, an exchange or any other bitcoin platform do not generate QR code for you, I do not think such should be used in 2024.

QR code can help against clipboard malware. If you copy on your device, there is a memory where it is stored and it is called the clipboard. There are malware that can change what you copied to the clipboard and that is what clipboard malware does. It will change the address you copied to an attackers address. That is why it is good to check and recheck the address that you are sending to before pressing on send or before you withdraw or before you send the address to someone.

Do not think this can give you full protection. There are other malware that works differently before stealing your coins. Using online wallet is prone to malware and it is good to use cold wallet or offline wallet for coins that are high in amount. If you can not go for cold storage, you can go for multisig which can offer better protection than a single signature wallet.

Also learn how to avoid malware.
737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Advice re: private keys on: January 06, 2024, 07:56:58 AM
hosseinimr93 is correct. 64 character private keys are in hexadecimal and you will first need to convert the private key to wallet import format (WIF).

Run it offline for the safety of your coins.

The website: https://www.bitaddress.org/

To run it offline on an airgapped device: https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org/releases

There are two WIF: the compressed and the other one that is not compressed. The compressed starts from K or L while the other one starts from 5.

For low fee, use the one that starts from K or L which is compressed.
738  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: cNGN stablecoin to be launched Feb. 27, 2024 on: January 06, 2024, 07:44:18 AM
Please lock this thread. There is existing threads already that you can post replies instead.

I created a topic about this two weeks ago. Although, the date was no yet known at the time. cNGN, a consortium-backed stable coin

Just yesterday, sokani created this topic and included the date: Date set for Nigerian new stablecoin cNGN launch

We can use sokani's thread to post about this and also let us avoid posting the same replies. So the advise is to just lock this thread.
739  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Date set for Nigerian new stablecoin cNGN launch on: January 05, 2024, 04:00:38 PM
Dem say cNGN no come to replace the already failed eNaira but to complement am.
Share news as it is. There is no where in the news that called eNaira failed. If you do not have enough evidence, because eNaira is not used among your people in your area, do not make conclusion that it is failed. The way you also put it, it will make people confuse as if it is written in the news, but nothing like that was written.

Wetin una think about the new stablecoin, una feel say e go thrive wia eNaira fail? Abeg make una share una thoughts.
It is just like how many people will be making use of USD-pegged coins in United States. I have not made such finding before but I believe only few people will make use of it because they will prefer their fiat, USD instead. We have no reason to use it locally because most people will prefer naira. Only its benefit which naira and eNaira does not have is if it is on exchanges and well adopted, it mght be an easy remittance means and also that people that are not in Nigeria that wants to have naira can easily have access to it. But with the way naira keeps depreciating, I do not think it will be an attraction for foreigners.
740  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Some important factors that promoted bitcoin use in Nigeria. on: January 05, 2024, 10:16:10 AM
Inflation has been one of the reasons for the adoption of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in Nigeria which is the first reason stated as the exchange rate in the OP, but the second main reason cryptocurrencies is well adopted in Nigeria is that people see it as an investment. If you invest in bitcoin, that the price will increase and you will make money from it.

Although, more people may know about cryptocurrencies during EndSARs, but I will not state it as one of the reasons. Before EndSARs, CBN has known that the adoption is increasing already and they use EndSARs to make many people to be silent and not against them (the CBN) after they banned cryptocurrencies. Without EndSARs, inflation and bitcoin as an investment means has been the reasons for the adoption. Although, there are other reasons but which I do not think are worth mentioning.
