541  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Softwallets, Bumping and Cancel Feature on: February 09, 2024, 09:22:03 PM
Are there wallets that do not have bump fee or cancel transaction features.
There are many of them. Example are Unstoppable, Mycelium and many other wallets that support altcoins. In fact, I have not seen an altcoin wallet that is supporting bitcoin that has this (RBF) feature before.

And what happens to such wallet during periods of high network congestion when the transaction is stuck, what can or should they do?
Import the seed phrase into wallet like Electrum, wait for one of the servers to drop the transaction from the mempool. If you have waited for 2 weeks and you did not see the coin on Electrum wallet balance, change the server from automatic to manual and select the servers one by one and synchronize the Electrum wallet each time you change the server. You can even do it before 2 weeks daily and repeatedly until you see your coins.

If your coin have appeared on Electrum balance, you can spend the coin again on a new transaction.

There is also option of full RBF in a way you can use a node/server that supports full RBF to rebroadcast the coin. Electrum: how to use Full RBF?
542  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is it possible to convert WIF to seed phrases (BIP39)? on: February 09, 2024, 09:08:17 PM
I think this kind of question was asked some weeks ago. You can not generate vanity address using seed phrase. Although, it is possible, but there is no known available tool that you can use to generate it.

Edit:
This is the thread that I am referring to: Mass BTC Wallet Generator with mnemonic andbip39. You can go through it and see some people's reply.
543  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Top 2 cryptocurrency exchange on: February 09, 2024, 06:13:37 PM
The Nigeria banks for example takes a huge percentage to transaction fees especially when it is Bitcoin transaction
This is not true. Make use of P2P and bank has no charges to take than the normal transaction fee.

The other is called COINBASE:This is also ranked among the top two cryptocurrency exchange and it is ranked second after the BINANCE but like I said earlier I haven't heard about this COINBASE if not for the research I made today though I still don't know more about this COINBASE until I am well certified with the ongoing research.
Nigerians are not allowed to trade on Coinbase. It would have been one of the most popular exchanges in Nigeria. But you know the type of segregation we faced from many services from United States like PayPal. Coinbase is one is them. Thankfully, we have alternatives that we can even say are good and better.

So those who do this online transactions do you see this two as the best and how do you rate them for your own transportation
There are other better centralized exchanges as well. You can look for their trust score on some sites like Coingecko.
544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Limitations or scalability issues with the Bitcoin network on: February 09, 2024, 06:03:56 PM
Another challenge is the environmental impact of Bitcoin mining. The process of mining requires a significant amount of computational power and energy consumption, which can have negative implications for the environment.
People are the problem themselves. The world has been the hottest this year while bitcoin miners are producing less carbon dioxide than what critics depicted about bitcoin in comparison with the total gases release to the environment that can cause global warming from tiger human activities. The reason the world is getting warmer day after day is not because of bitcoin mining but because of how the world are generating electricity, industrial chemicals released to the environment, deforestation and transport emissions of the gasses that can cause global warming.
545  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: [Mycelium Android] Transaction stuck for ~2 weeks, can't bump the fee on: February 09, 2024, 05:03:30 PM
Or you could just delete an unconfirmed transaction from Mycelium, so it won't get rebroadcasted anymore.
If you continue to open your wallet, the wallet will synchronized with the blockchain again and likely the server the wallet depends on will continue to rebroadcast the transaction. If your transaction is stuck, it is better not to open the wallet, or making sure the wallet do not synchronize with the blockchain. With this, if you import your seed phrase or private key on Electrum, with time, a server or some servers will drop the transaction from their mempool so that you can rebroadcast the coin again in another transaction. I have seen people that used Coinomi, Mycelium and Trustwallet that import the seed phrase on Electrum and were later able to rebroadcast their coin again.
546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a wallet that stores more than one crytpo on your desktop? on: February 09, 2024, 01:24:54 PM
If you want to store any altcoins then you can use Metamusk Browser Extension. You can hold more than one HUGE amount of altcoins here. But if you want to hold Bitcoin then Electrum wallet will be best for you. Because it is considered a Bitcoin secure wallet.
You meant Metamask wallet. Second is that someone should not hold huge amount of coins on an online wallet. If the amount of coins is huge and also for many coins and tokens, the best is to get a hardware wallet. One of the best hardware wallet that can be gotten is Trezor. Trezor is supporting bitcoin and many altcoins.

Although, if it is a bitcoin only wallet, Electrum can be used as a cold storage wallet. Also is Sparrow and some other reputed bitcoin wallet.
547  Economy / Speculation / Re: What to expect this bull run? on: February 09, 2024, 01:19:33 PM
Looking at the last bull run, Bitcoin hit $61k in March 2021 then crashed back down to $31k 4 months later and then hit all time high in November 2021.

Is the crash down to $31k normal during a bull run or did something happen?
Elon Musk manipulative tweet that Tesla is no longer supporting bitcoin for paying first crashed bitcoin price. Later the Chinese crackdown on bitcoin mining later crashed the price to less than $30000 before increasing to all-time-high. Something like this can also happen in the next bullrun, there are some negative news that can significantly crash bitcoin price in some minutes to hours. But the later long-term outcome is still all-time-high and bullrun.
548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a wallet that stores more than one crytpo on your desktop? on: February 09, 2024, 09:05:33 AM
The best you can do is to go for hardware wallet like Trezor.

Exodus can hold other crypto currencies apart from Bitcoin. I guess they are open source too ,you can look up their code on GitHub.
You can get the app from their official site
Exodus is a close source wallet.

OP, you can use unstoppable wallet as it is an open source wallet that can be used for bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.
Unstoppable wallet is open source but it is a mobile wallet and not having a Desktop version. OP is looking for a desktop wallet and all the ones that I know are close source except bitcoin wallets that we have many open source ones.
549  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Wallet with lost password 12k BTC FOR SALE on: February 08, 2024, 06:18:15 PM

Don't know the password.

One sale price 5 BTC
Multi sale  price - 1200 USDT
I thought that you can brute force such a wallet. Or have you forgotten you have a topic that you can recover such a wallet. This from one of your topics in the paste as reference:

Hello.

If you have forgot your password for any Qt wallet, but have your wallet.dat file, we can try to help you recover your password.

What we need from you to start:

1. Your Wallet.dat file.
2. Hint for your password, something that you remember.

Prices:

1. For wallet with no password options 50%
2. For wallet with  hint 25%

All coins that use QT wallet are supported.
Don't by wallets from internet!

So recover the wallet yourself than to sell it. You will not be able to recover the coins because you are only looking for someone to scam.
550  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What are best and secured tools to create public keys ? on: February 08, 2024, 12:10:44 PM
You can use Electrum on an airgapped device.

Do you mean private keys or public keys? On Electum, you can have access to the private keys and public keys that your seed phrase will generate.

Do no mind my question. Why is public key so important that you want to generate it and not mentioning private key? Know that private keys are needed for spending your coins and not public key.

552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: In need of some testnet BTC (sats) on: February 08, 2024, 10:08:02 AM
this is just aimed at beginners to get top know how they can earn, send or receive bitcoin transactions
Testnet may be useful for beginners, but I did not know what testnet is since I have been using bitcoin until I can came to this forum to know it exists. This makes me think that most beginners are not starting their bitcoin journey with the use of Testnet. Testnet will be mostly useful to the developers that will first make use of Testnet before introducing a new protocol to the mainnet. Also it would be more useful for wallet developers.
553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin’s, Altcoin’s Private Keys are all Compromised. Second proof. on: February 08, 2024, 09:26:11 AM
Do not use close source wallet. Do not use Javascript to generate your seed phrase and private key. Do not use a brain wallet. Avoid those with insecure means of generating seed phrase like Libbitcoin explorer. These are all insecure means of generating seed phrase and private keys.

Use a good software to generate your seed phrase and private key. Go for reputed wallets like Sparrow, Electrum, Trezor etc. There are many open source wallets for bitcoin that are reputed that you can go for.

If you generated your seed phrase and private keys securely and safely on a safe device like airgapped devices, the 128 bits of security that bitcoin has is still enough against brute force attack.
554  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: In need of some testnet BTC (sats) on: February 08, 2024, 08:41:32 AM
These are some sites you can be helpful for you to collect some testnet coin: List of Testnet BTC Faucet

If you want to return the coin after you finish using it, I think NotATether and BlackHatCoiner have their thread for it. Go through their topic history or message any of them for help.
555  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Withdraw Fees for BTC and ETH on: February 08, 2024, 12:23:46 AM
The same happens to Bitcoin. Using BTC Network and LIGHTNING makes a crazy difference in fees. What is really the difference?
The difference is that lightning network is not as secure as bitcoin on-chain network. Also that you can not use the lightning network for transactions huge in amount to save fee. Lightning network wallets has to be online while you can transfer bitcoin onchain while using cold storage wallets and other secure means. For security reasons, you still have to depend on bitcoin blockchain.
556  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: When is the best time to trade a Bitcoin on: February 07, 2024, 09:08:18 PM
I just discovered that Bitcoin most times depreciates in day time but when it gets to late hours at night it increases its exchange value I don't know if anyone has this observation as well
Many people from all over the world with different time zones are on this forum. If you want to talk about something like this, you will need to specify your country time zone. The morning in your country is the afternoon or nighttime in another country.

So for me in this situation you can buy your Bitcoin at day time and trade it at night when it adds
But it is very important to watch at it carefully.
Trading is not as easy as this at all. Bitcoin do not have a time it will increase it decrease. You may notice what you are saying to be repeating, but within some days, it will change. Bitcoin may increase during the day and fall during the night. Bitcoin may increased in the night and decrease during the day. There is not specific time for the increase and decrease of bitcoin price.
557  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Privacy Protocols on: February 07, 2024, 08:54:56 PM
Now, the sticking point is that yes, transactions can be followed through the blockchain BUT who/what has ownership of coins cannot be discovered until they are exchanged into fiat or some type of physical goods which can be linked to people & organizations. He wanted to make sure that BTC had that discovery mechanism.
That was so nice of Satoshi Nakamoto. If bitcoin is like monero, it might also not be widely used as it is today. Nearly all countries do not ban bitcoin and the discovery mechanism would be one of the reasons many countries do not ban the coin.

Satoshi understood a lot about privacy and its negative impact. He somehow knew that if Bitcoin's privacy was as completely strong as that of coin like the monero's, it would lead to more illicit activities using Bitcoin.
Exactly. But it is worth knowing that fiat is mostly used for illicit activities today. It is mostly used for money laundry, terrorism financing, ransom and bandits funding etc. So far something is of value and can be easily transfer from one person to another as a money, some people will want to use such thing for illicit activities.
558  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [LIST] Wallets supporting Taproot on: February 07, 2024, 08:19:49 PM
We compare 52 Hardware Wallets (aka Signing Devices) feature by feature.

Now you can see the Bitcoin Address formats supported by each hardware wallet: legacy, nested segwit, native segwit and taproot.

https://thebitcoinhole.com/hardware-wallets

Soon, we will also include that info for our software wallets comparison.
Good contribution. Well done.

I think you have a thread that you can use to notify people about this: 16 Bitcoin Software Wallets, compared feature by feature

This thread is mainly for wallets that are generating pay-to-taproot addresses and not a comparison thread.

But if you see a reputed wallet that is supporting pay-to-taproot and not yet included on the OP, you can post them here at anytime so that  dkbit98 can edit the OP and include the wallet if necessary.

560  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DO NOT plug random cables and sticks into your device. on: February 06, 2024, 09:31:00 AM
For maximum security, one of the best option is to go for a wallet on an airgapped device which its OS has been reinstalled and also making sure that it is not connected online by removing its WiFi card. Also remove the Bluetooth. If a wallet is setup on the device with the seed phrase having a strong passphrase is a good option. Backup the seed phrase and disable the USB ports and card reader or something from the Bios.

Another option is a 2-of-2 multisig in a way at least one device is a cold wallet like hardware wallet. Or going for a 2-of-3 multisig in a way that at least one device is airgapped. Better security but transaction fee will be high. Better for storage. For a wallet that is not used frequently.

For small amount on a desktop or a mobile wallet. Do not use the device to browse anyhow you want. People are now having at least two phones, and a laptop if possible. I prefer to use just one of my phone for browsing, while the other phone for just something related to wallet and exchanges. Disable download from unknown source. From settings, disable apps not to download files. Do not use it to download anything and also not using it for browsing. Just use it for only wallet and exchanges and let your other phone do the other work and get be careful of malware on the two devices. Do not share files with the devices.

Leave small money on online wallets while the remaining on cold wallets.
