401  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria House of Representative summons Binance CEO on: March 04, 2024, 02:31:36 PM
This is two days ago news and we have discussed and discussing about it from a thread that I created.

Reps summon Binance boss over alleged terrorism financing, others

They have shutdown Binance in Nigeria, they have closed their P2P and denied Nigerians access to the exchange. Nigerians have accepted, withdrawn their monies and moved one. But here is Nigerian government still doing eye-service with Binance as if they are working. We all know where all these busy body go end. Them wan shake the exchange to see if them fit collect small money, typical of people that want to reap where they did not sow.
You can still access Binance through the mobile app. You can still withdraw naira using Cashlink which is a merchant's P2P network. You can still use sell crypto for naira on Binance.
402  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Network issues these days on: March 04, 2024, 02:25:05 PM
Your location could be the reason. My network is good. But I noticed that the 4G network is not as good as before when there was no 5G in the town that I am living. But as we have 5G now, the 4G is not as good as before, although not totally bad. My 4G router got damaged. I have a better Internet experience with my 5G phone and when I connect my 5G router with my old 4G phone.

Or if you are very rich, you can go for Starlink which its internet connection can be good even in places that the ISP networks are not good.
403  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: A method to still use BINANCE for exchanging Cryptocurrency to fiat. on: March 04, 2024, 02:08:55 PM
We have posted about this before on this local board but I was unable to see the topic. I mean when Binance added Cashlink, we talked about it and the reason it was added was because it is not a payment gateway as CBN banned crypto transactions at the time when Cashlink was added and we indicated that it is also P2P. P2P network of verified merchants as Binance described it. But I have not tried it before. I wonder why you people just stick with Binance like it is the only exchange that has P2P, but which is not.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5487070.msg63737076#msg63737076
This is the first topic of another method you can use to sell coins without p2p methods on binance exchange.
OP there's another thread same as your already in existence here, I think you should block this one.
This method is another alternative to sell Bitcoin or any coins at all.
They are not the same. Check the third image and compare it with OP's third image which I included beneath the images of the old thread:

The old thread is about 'sell crypto' for fiat while this thread is about 'withdrawal' of fiat.

This is the next page you will see

Click on "withdraw"

405  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Imported Private Key to mobile wallet and can't send now on: March 04, 2024, 10:08:06 AM
He said he doesn't remember setting a passphrase. I checked and the BTC have not been spent yet. Is it possible to bypass the password somehow?
It depends on how long the characters are. The longer it is, the harder to brute force the passphrase. You can use BTCRecover for it.

https://btcrecover.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

If it is a long passphrase, the effort to recover the BIP38 passphrase can be a waste of time.
406  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: electrum the most common complaint is privacy, why not broadcast at Starbucks on: March 04, 2024, 02:34:14 AM
Public WiFi is neither private nor safe. In anything that you are using it for, know that the owner can track you and your browsing history.

If you want to have privacy, run your own node or server with Tor. If you want to be anonymous, use Tor.
407  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Imported Private Key to mobile wallet and can't send now on: March 03, 2024, 11:43:42 PM
Sorry i am new to this. The paper wallet was a gift in 2017. I wasn't aware i need a password to access as i was never given one.
The person that gave you the paper wallet encrypted the private key with password/passphrase. Tell the person to give you the password for you to access the coins. Without the password, you may not be able to have access to the WIF private key, especially if the characters are long.
408  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Imported Private Key to mobile wallet and can't send now on: March 03, 2024, 11:22:27 PM
The Private key was on paper wallet i was gifted and i starts with 6. I scanned the QR code to import it.
That private key is encrypted. You have to decrypt it.

You can use https://www.bitaddress.org/bitaddress.org offline. For offline usage: https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org/archive/v3.3.0.zip

Click on wallet details and check ✔️ BIP38 encrypt? and include the password/passphrase you used to encrypt it. After that, click on encrypt BIP38. You will get the private key that starts from 5, K or L. Choose the one that is the same as your bitcoin address and import it on Electum.
409  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Imported Private Key to mobile wallet and can't send now on: March 03, 2024, 11:02:46 PM
Which character did your private key starts from?

You imported an address or addresses and not private key. You can not spend the coins just by importing an address. Private key starts from K, L or 5.

If they want Binance to pay tax, detaining their employees, requesting them to stop NGN P2P on their platform, and demanding a $10 million ransom will result in zero tax.
Demanding $10 billion dollars is a fake news

Binance said government did not ask for $10 billion fine

Quote
Asked for comments about Binance’s position, Mr Onanuga said his statement to the BBC was misrepresented in the media, noting that he never said the company had been informed or that the fine had been concluded by Nigerian regulators.

“I said our government may impose heavy fines on Binance for what happened,” Mr Onanuga told The Gazette. “I never said Binance had been informed about the fines or that it would definitely be $10 billion.”
“I only said the amount may be imposed, which is because nothing has been finalised yet,” Mr Onanuga said, placing repeated emphasis on the uncertainties around the fines.
411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2-month-old transaction still unconfirmed, stuck in mempool on: March 03, 2024, 12:44:45 PM
usually it takes about 2weeks, 14 days and a total of 336 hours for a transaction to be purged and dropped from the mempool. A possible reason for any further delay before a transaction is dropped, might be due to the time when some full node had received your transaction.
On Bitcoin Core, it is 14 days, but some node runners may not leave it as default but change it to a longer period. You can change it also on Bitcoin Core. That is why some nodes will also retain the transaction after 14 days.

Thanks for the informative reply, I'll try that if the tx doesn't purge soon
The purging is 4.45 sat/vbyte right now and you said your transaction is 4.4 sat/vbyte. Some node runners can also edit the purging rate to a higher one. Do what I told you to do and you will be able to spend your coins in a new transaction. Your wallet is the reason you are not able to spend the coin in a new transaction.
412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2-month-old transaction still unconfirmed, stuck in mempool on: March 03, 2024, 12:12:02 PM
You want to do child-pay-for-prrent (CPFP) so that the transaction that is stuck can get confirmed. Like you know, you will pay extra fee. Also that would be if the stuck transaction has change (in change address).

The transaction has been stuck since 8 weeks or more. Import the seed phrase into Electrum and check if you will be able to see the coin and be able to spend it.

If you coin has not been dropped from mempool, go to Electrum server setting and uncheck it from automatic and change the server one by one manually and resynchronize the wallet each time you are changing the sever and check if you will be able to see and spend the coin in a new transaction each time.

414  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Reps summon Binance boss over alleged terrorism financing, others on: March 03, 2024, 10:56:37 AM
The House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes summons Binance CEO, Richard Teng over alleged involvement in terrorism financing and money laundering. Ginger Onwusibe which is the Chairman of the Committe said management of Binance should appear before or on March 4. He said the committee will invoke constitutional powers to take appropriate measures if Binance do not honour the summon.

“We also have to protect and defend the country’s finances, especially now that the country is nose-diving into recession. The allegations of terrorism financing, money laundering and tax evasion amongst others levelled against Binance are damning enough.
Our government were sleeping before, but now they know that Binance needs to be paying tax. But not only Binance but also all other foreign exchanges.

415  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Stupid newbie question, but can I make copies of my wallet? on: March 02, 2024, 09:41:53 PM
If you need a cold storage guide, you can read this which is about Electrum cold storage: https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html

Electrum 2FA requires additional fee: https://trustedcoin.com/#/faq#fees. Know that it is also 2-of-3 multisig. If you want to go for it, know that you should have the authenticator app on a different device, not on the device that you have your wallet.

I will recommend cold storage wallet. But you need an airgapped device for it.
416  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: is it possible to link two BTC wallet on the same installation of Electrum? on: March 02, 2024, 08:31:44 PM
If you do not want the two wallet to be linked together, use your own Electrum server with Tor. Or you can reroute the connection anytime you want to connect to another wallet. Another option is to have the wallet on two different devices connected with Tor on each devices. For privacy and to avoid mistakes, run your own server with Tor.
417  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seed and hardware wallets on: March 01, 2024, 11:44:46 PM
About Bitbox hardware wallet yes they do have advantage features that you can't find on the ledger wallet like "show BIP39 Mnemonic" and take
I do not see it as an advantage because we should think about the senario of a hardware wallet owner not backup the seed phrase and the wallet got damaged or stolen.

A good wallet will recommend its users to backup the seed phrase. Also letting the users know the importance of the seed phrase and the reason not to misplace it.

Although, not that I am recommending Ledger Nano wallets.
418  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Binance said government did not ask for $10 billion fine on: March 01, 2024, 09:33:37 PM
I will lock this thread: BREAKING: Tinubu’s government slams $10 billion fine on Binance

The reason is that I do not know which is which. Or let me read other people's opinion to know if I should open the thread again.

I do not know how legit this is for now, but People's Gazette said Binance top official said the $10 billion fine is not true. It was also said that Mr Onanuga said his statement to the BBC was misrepresented in the media

Binance official

“Werecently discussed ways to resolve issues with Nigeria, but we did not hear any demand for $10 billion,” a Binance official told Peoples Gazette shortly after the BBC said Bayo Onanuga purportedly announced the enormous penalties.

The Cayman Islands-based cryptocurrency giant said it was not in the mood to discuss paying the Nigerian government either to restore its services that were cut off recently or free its executives being held over alleged involvement in purported manipulation that led to the rapid collapse of the naira and associate consequences for historic inflation and poverty in Nigeria.

“Our aim is to chart a good relationship with the government and the people of Nigeria. We want to see our services restored in Nigeria very soon, but we have no intention of paying fines for personnel or services,” Binance added.

Mr Onanuga's

419  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Be aware, no use person wallet . on: March 01, 2024, 08:47:47 PM
As this issue of binance and government dey go so, I go advise make person no go put coins for another person wallet because say em no get another wallet.
Do not get this wrong, Binance is not even a wallet. Binance is an exchange and an exchange should not be used for saving coins because it should just be for what it should be used for, for exchanging coins. After you exchange your coins, send them to a noncustodial wallet that is open source and reputed.
420  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Forex Crisis: CBN revokes operational licenses of 4,173 BDCs on: March 01, 2024, 08:34:28 PM
CBN are just looking ways to strengthen naira. This is a link to the news:

https://dailypost.ng/2024/03/01/forex-crisis-cbn-revokes-operational-licenses-of-4173-bdcs/

Although, CBN said the affected institutions failed to observe regulatory provisions.

The regulatory provisions:

These, according to the bank, include payment of all necessary fees, including licence renewal, within the stipulated period in line with Guidelines, rendition of returns in line with the Guidelines, and compliance with guidelines, directives and circulars of the CBN, particularly Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) and Counter-Proliferation Financing (CPF) regulations

There has been new development everyday but the CBN can only try. The price of naira has increased. Let us see if the price of cement and other goods will also be reduced.

But the problem is that as the primary reason for the devaluation of naira has not been solved as Nigeria depend more on foreign goods and services than they are exporting, will naira continue to increase in value? It depreciated to almost $1400 yesterday or day before yesterday in the parallel market but now at over $1500 again.
