841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA LIFT THE BAN ON CRYPTOCURRENCY IN NIGERIA on: December 23, 2023, 08:04:09 AM
I guess it was this, that they realized that they were losing much more than they could gain from the ban.
There has been changes in government. New president was elected some months ago. 10% capital gain tax was included in 2023 Financial Act for cryptocurrencies which the incumbent president signed. The CBN governor that banned bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies was removed and replaced by his assistant before the present CBN governor was put there. The former CBN governor is illiterate to cryptocurrencies in regards to how it handle cryptocurrencies. It is not about them seeing that they are losing but there is a change in government.
842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I don’t think bitcoin is now decentralized on: December 22, 2023, 11:40:17 PM
The miners are not to be blamed. The mempool is congested and that has been the reason. You can face the developers, not the miners. Either they should do something about Ordinals and BRC20 tokens or get a way the mempool will not be congested as this.
843  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: CBN lifts ban on cryptocurrency transactions on: December 22, 2023, 11:27:45 PM
I don't mean to sound rude sir, @Charles-Tim  but if you actually think the topic is really worth meriting, you being the first person to sight it, can drop your merit.  Grin

It's really a great news tho.
Thanks for telling me your mind. Although, I wanted to merit the post, but I was still editing this thread's OP as you can see before you post.

Yes, it is a great news. There will be more ways to buy and sell cryptocurrencies again in Nigeria. Although, I like P2P but some people will definitely prefer other means.
844  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / CBN lifts ban on cryptocurrency transactions on: December 22, 2023, 11:15:50 PM
You can send the merits to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5478992.msg63371202#msg63371202

https://punchng.com/breaking-cbn-lifts-ban-on-cryptocurrency/

The ban has been lifted. But banks and other financial institutions in Nigeria are not allowed to hold, trade and/or transact in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

In the 2023 Financial Act that 10% capital gain tax on virtual assets was included, we know this is coming. Although, we enjoy the CBN ban. Probably regulations and taxation are coming.
845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is the #1 crypto currency in the world if it's slow and expensive? on: December 22, 2023, 11:09:15 PM
Bitcoin is decentralized, unlike ripple that is completely centralized. But the reason ripple did not got to all-time-high might be because of the SEC lawsuit which has later been won. But if it is not centralized, there would not be such lawsuit.

Bitcoin has more utility. It is well known than ripple. Bitcoin is an asset that can be used for investment and that is the reason bitcoin investors do not think more about the fee. The fee will also later become reduced than it is now.

847  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin losing its P2P efficiency!! on: December 22, 2023, 06:49:40 PM
segwit and LN have not solved things..
If you open a channel, even fee paid to miners would be charged.

But there are some wallets that can be used that run their own channels which can be used in time like this for small amount of bitcoin. Example is Muun wallet.

developers could have had many ways to keep fee's from becoming a premium
This is true. It would have been better if bitcoin developers can do something that can make the mempool not congested at all.
848  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Abeg Na true say say porthacourt Refinery don start dey work? on: December 22, 2023, 11:59:22 AM
let’s just hope it’s true and make fuel price come down.
What do you think its price went up in Nigeria that later went down? Inflation can make the price of goods and services to go up, but for a country to have deflation, it is not easy and government only prefer to keep the price just stable than to be looking for ways to bring the price of goods and services down. I am not expecting the price of petrol and other crude oil by-products to come down. But maybe this might help in a way the price of petroleum products will not be increasing. It might help to minimize inflation.
849  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Abeg Na true say say porthacourt Refinery don start dey work? on: December 22, 2023, 10:09:15 AM
The news was just yesterday. We should give it some days to know if this is true or not. I think it should be true but it may yet not be fully functional. The people that can let us know more about this are people working in the refinery, or someone that knows someone working in the refinery.

It was a good news and we hope that the refinery will not become disused anymore but remain fully functional. It would be a surprise because it has been long that this refinery has stopped functioning.
850  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: address reuse within Electrum on: December 22, 2023, 07:22:49 AM
Electrum allows you to receive to different address each time but when you send it doesn't is there a wallet that allows you to generate new address to send from too?
You can read more about the whirlpool on Sparrow and Samurai. If you have coins on any of this two wallets, you can go for the coinjoin which is the whirlpool which will help you to mix the coins to different addresses. But this will require fee to be paid. If you want to send the coin, it would be from the mixed coin which is from different addresses
851  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make Una Avoid Ethnicity Here in the Forum. We're all One. on: December 22, 2023, 12:16:23 AM
The funniest thing is those who were actually communicating on that Yoruba thread were Niger Deltan using Google translate to write there.
I thought Niger Deltan are not Muslims. But some people can be Christian, or use Muslim or something similar to Muslim names. Some Niger Deltan family might have yoruba because you should have seen tribes marrying different tribes. The only person that I know there is Mpamaegbu which I thought was not Niger Deltan (I do not want to disclose his tribe). You can also see a Yorùbá speaking Igbo or Hausa, that does not matter if the Yoruba post on their local board.

Yoruba tribe are not much into crypto or maybe like to keep it secret. I could be wrong though.
They are much into it. Many young guys do not even know how to keep it to themselves, you will see them discussing about it.

End of discussion. Just two languages are allowed. English and Pidgin. We still all have the same conclusion.
852  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make Una Avoid Ethnicity Here in the Forum. We're all One. on: December 21, 2023, 11:50:55 PM
Even if that thread was very active there is no way we would have made it a sub-board. Nigeria is way more than just Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. A country With more than 500+ languages can not create a sub-board for some ethnic groups. There is already tribal war going on our social media we do not want that here.
The future is hard to speculate. If that thread was active, it means there are many Yorùbá people on this forum and if we are many, do not underestimate masses.

I am not saying Yorùbá people are not many on this forum, but you can easily understand that we also prefer it in English even before this board was created.
853  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make Una Avoid Ethnicity Here in the Forum. We're all One. on: December 21, 2023, 11:36:29 PM
Any tribe that feels uncomfortable and wants to be on their own should start a local thread outside of the Naija local board and stay. You must keep and converse in the two approved languages as long as you are a member of this board.
As long as we are Nigerians, Nigeria local board is enough. And only two languages are accepted. Which are English and Pidgin that everyone can use to post. No need for anyone to create any other language thread.

@Charles-Tim such thread will divide us and will hinder alot of users.
It can not. Assuming we have many people from a particular tribe posting actively, there is nothing bad to have such as child-board. But that can not be done because I can remember that Yorùbá has a thread which was very inactive. And most people did not come up with their own languages. Assuming if Yoruba thread was active and people came up with their own languages, many people could have voted for English, Pidgin and native languages.

I am not insinuating that native languages should be allowed, but saying the reason it was not allowed was because of how inactive native language threads would be. Or maybe it was only me that thought that way in the past.

Charles-Tim you know say local language na one of di problem we dey face for dis country
No. You can create a new thread about this for us to discuss more about it.
854  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make Una Avoid Ethnicity Here in the Forum. We're all One. on: December 21, 2023, 10:55:00 PM
We do not have local languages not because we do not want tribalism. In fact, we supposed to encourage local languages or have a threads in it if it people can make such threads to be active. But with what we have noticed in the past, local language threads are just not active as people are not posting there. The reason most people did not choose local languages was not because of tribalism but for not to have inactive threads.
855  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Glo and it's network wahala on: December 21, 2023, 03:19:46 PM
I will advise you to have all the networks. To get each network sim card is very cheap and they do come with many offers. Go for MTN, Etisalat and Airtel and see the best one that have network in your area.

If you do not want to buy the SIM cards, look for the one that its mast is closer to your house or where you are browsing. The closer the mast the better the network.

I can recommend MTN because I have been to so many places outside my state and it remains the most reliable.
856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to speed up a transaction? on: December 21, 2023, 11:41:43 AM
The transaction is not supporting replace-by-fee. Use a wallet that support replace-by-fee next time. Like Electrum, Sparrow and Bluewallet.

Bitcoin open source wallets that support replace-by-fee (RBF)

But if the transaction is not having parent transaction. If the fee is more than 10 sat/byte (not 10 sat/vbyte) and also if the transaction size is not more than 500 bytes. Then you can use VIABTC free accelerator to accelerate it.

857  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using "send everything" compromises your privacy? on: December 21, 2023, 09:31:50 AM
Assuming you received 5 BTC in 5 addresses. If you send all, all the addresses are connected together which anyone can see on blockchain explorer.

Sometimes, if you want to consolidate, you may decide to send all at ones into a single address, but you should know that all your coins are linked as you send out of your wallet. If you consolidate and you use Tor, your anonymity is still there because as the coins are linked together, it can not still be linked to your real identity.

But you should know how to use coin control so that your UTXOs or addresses are not linked together in your outgoing transactions.

How to spend specific UTXOs in Electrum
858  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance withdrawal fees are too high, what do I do? on: December 21, 2023, 08:16:00 AM
Yes the have fix charges but it changes depending on the network congestion since part of that is paid to the miners. I also thought before that it doesn’t change since binance has its own mining pool but it does change and will reduce if the congestion reduces too

There was a time the fee was 0.0005 BTC. Binance reduced it to 0.0002 BTC. Ordinals came and transaction increased, then Binance increased it to 0.001 BTC this year. OP said the fee is 0.0008 BTC. During congestion I was surprised that Binance reduced transaction fee. I went to check and I saw this:

That is almost 2 times of 0.000 8 BTC.

When the mempool was congested in 2020/2021, the withdrawal on Binance was 0.0005 BTC. It took months before Binance reduced it to 0.0002 BTC when the mempool has been less congested with 1 sat/vbyte getting confirmed, Binance left it at 0.0005 BTC, until several months has passed.

But when the mempool becomes congested, Binance did (several times) increases the fee asap. But when the mempool become not congested, Binance will not reduced the fee for months that can be more than a year.

Some exchanges are using floating rate, but not Binance. Binance used a fixed fee that we should not consider to be altered for decrement unless you want to hold on the exchange. And not your key not you coin.

The temporary solution is to just use lightning network on wallets that have their own channel like Muun wallet if the amount is small.
859  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New crypto stealer: Rhadamanthys Stealer malware on: December 21, 2023, 07:52:26 AM
In recent times I have been seeing news on this crypto attack malwares and how there are improving the more we update our security measures the higher they increase in viruses to attack but phones to still information.
You may have just been seen malware news recently, but malware news is something common.

My major concern is the fact that it can be in operation without our notice even with some anti malware, so avoiding it now seems to be difficult because it all over the place already from every site you visit regularly like YouTube most time normal videos are link to YouTube.
I am not certain of the ads on YouTube. Just do not click on the ads. Or you can go for the premium version which has no ads and have more benefits. I prefer the later.
860  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New crypto stealer: Rhadamanthys Stealer malware on: December 21, 2023, 07:12:32 AM
So as much as possible stay away from those sites, do not download any fake softwares. Everyone should be very careful more than ever as criminals are very much into our space right now and we don't want to be the next victim here.
We are in the time that we should have like 2 phones and a laptop. One phone for just something like mobile wallet, banking apps and things like that, but not about just browsing any site. The other phone for browsing much more but still to be careful of malware, avoidimg malware download. The laptops for not browsing much. I mean not to browse just any site than known URLs. To avoid malware is simple but most people that have been affected are not doing things that can make them avoid malware. It would have been late before they will realize that. Even with one device, malware can still be avoided.

But for high amount of coins, it is better to use a cold wallet like Electrum or Sparrow on airgapped device, or to go for a multisig wallet with a proper seed phrase backup.
