461  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.5.3 released on: February 23, 2024, 01:09:07 PM
Code:
changed: label tx sizes as "vbytes", and feerates as "sat/vbyte" (#8864)

I am glad to see the byte and sat/byte changed to vbyte and sat/vbyte. It is worth including that the transaction size and fee rate are both in virtual size before, but just that it is indicated as byte and sat/byte which did confused many people thinking it is the actual size and not virtual size, but it is virtual size.
462  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcointalk accounts available on: February 23, 2024, 09:24:31 AM
Na people like you dey spoil our name as Nigerians
We can not say he or she is a Nigerian. He created the same topic on other local boards.

just imagine what your doing like has it gotten to this with your level on this platform it’s obvious you know the rules and regulations outlined to be followed but you’ve chosen to do as you like.
Do not let me repeat what I have posted before:

Op buying and selling of accounts in this forum  is prohibited and you should know better that if caught, the account you spent money in buying would be ban or tagged. So I recommend you luck this thread.
Buying of account on this forum is not prohibited:

18. Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.

But it should be discouraged because it can lead to scam. Also that newbies buying an account will still remain newbies. You can see it from their posts and to ban the account is highly possible because of mistakes of plagiarism and spamming.
463  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria's government suspensio of Binance exchange. What's your take? on: February 22, 2024, 08:25:01 PM
While Binance, Coinbase, and Kraken are among the suspended exchanges, it begs the question: Why these specific exchanges? Why not others like Bitget and Kucoin? These discrepancies raise concerns about the government's motives and decision-making process.
No exchange suspension nor any ban for now.

Edit:
To make this clearer, the Binanace URL is not working as NCC said it should be taking down by ISPs in Nigeria, but the mobile app is still working and you can use it to access Binance.
464  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Conspiracy theory...Binance in the spotlight...Should we be worried? on: February 22, 2024, 02:53:20 PM
Kucoin seems to be offering one of the best rate than Binance between yesterday and today but the number of traders and trading volume seems to be less when you compare it to Binance.
The number of traders and trading volume do not matter as long as you see buyers or sellers that can trade with you at a good rate.

But those who set rate of 1900/$1 on Kucoin and other exchanges seems to be doing just that to keep the price there but when you click on sell to sell your USDT to them they fail to finish the order most of them wait till time runs out and the trade will cancel I believe the set of people with such behavior are those Binance is restricting their orders.
This is the type of manipulation that was talked about on the first link in the OP. I avoid those selling with to good to be true rates. I think we all know that. But probably some people may fall victim in a way the trade will be cancelled or in a way the buyer or seller will tell the trader that he will deduct some amount of money. It will be good if exchanges can restrict ads like that. We have exchanges to be blamed for that.
465  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / FG benefiting from dollar rise against naira, Ndume alleges on: February 22, 2024, 02:40:41 PM
The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume said the federal government are gaining from the inflation in the country:

Ndume said rather than losing out from the naira depreciation against the dollar, the Federal Government is gaining more revenue to fund its 2024 budget.

They think we do not know?

Another is the salary they are paying there workers. The minimum wage was ₦30000 when dollar was at ₦365 when people were complaining of high cost of living, not knowing what is still coming. Today dollar is ₦1486 to a dollar, using the same CBN rate but minimum wage stayed at ₦30000.

NLC that said at least minimum wage should be increased are correct. Dollar is increasing, government are gaining more from crude oil but not increasing workers salary.

In the last 7 months, petrol import reduced by 1 billion litres: https://punchng.com/petrol-import-reduced-by-1billion-litres-in-seven-months-report/?amp

Yet, dollar continue to increase.
466  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Link several addresses to a given bitcoin wallet on: February 22, 2024, 02:25:18 PM
Question: when address 1 (which holds for example 1 BTC) of a wallet A sends 0.8 BTC to address 1 of a wallet B, do the remaining 0.2 remain on address 1 of A or are they assigned to a new virgin address (let's call it 2) on wallet A?
It depends on the wallet you are using and the settings and how you send the money. There are wallets that you can change in the settings to send the change the the address that you used to send the coin. But, by default, the change will be sent to a change address (which is another address). I am using Electrum for this example and that is how a good HD wallet should be.
467  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Link several addresses to a given bitcoin wallet on: February 22, 2024, 02:10:00 PM
It is possible for one to link different addresses to a particular wallet to the seed phrase

How ??
This is not possible, to link addresses to a seed phrase. Just that addresses can be linked to belong to the same wallet and not to the seed phrase that generates the addresses. No one can even know if it is the same seed phrase that generates the addresses and you can not use addresses to know the seed phrase that generates the addresses.
468  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Link several addresses to a given bitcoin wallet on: February 22, 2024, 02:00:06 PM
The problem is that people do not know how to have the privacy.

Assuming Mr A sent bitcoin to address 1, Mr B sent bitcoin to address 2 and Mr C sent bitcoin to address 3. All can not be linked if you have experience about how it can not be linked. But assuming you spent all the coins at ones, that will link all the addresses together. But if you use coin control to spend individually from the addresses in a way it can not be linked, it will not be linked.

But central server can be able to link your addresses together with your IP address even if you do not spend from the addresses and also if you use coin control. So for this reason, it is better to run your own node and use Tor with it.
469  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Conspiracy theory...Binance in the spotlight...Should we be worried? on: February 22, 2024, 01:49:54 PM
If you read the second link above, you will discover that Binance promised that it would "cap" the P2P rate. Is that not what is happening now?
I posted what I noticed on Binance yesterday:

On Binance P2P, I can see many accounts restricted...

It was the cap that was referred to. I think Binance will not have to look for elsewhere to cap the rate but they are capping it by some ads restrictions of people that they think are manipulating the market.

So if you asked if that is what that is happening? Indirectly Binance is capping the rate by restricting some ads.

This is P2P, you can check other exchanges before selling your coins. Go for the best rate if you do not care about privacy.
470  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is this ideal? on: February 22, 2024, 09:43:32 AM
This is not the first time that they would carry out this operation. One year ago, the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission stormed Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, home to most bureau de change operators in the Federal Capital Territory to dislodge currency speculators who are alleged to be massively mopping up available foreign currencies.
Yes. I know this is not the first time. The last time I heard about something like this was during Buhari time when Emefiele was the CBN governor. But some months ago, we have another incumbent president which is Tinubu. Tinubu appointed another CBN governor which is Cardoso. I thought things would change for better, but it is like how it was before but also getting worse day after day. Taking moves that can only help temporarily but not solving the problem.
471  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / From the arrest of BDC operators to Binance and other crypto manipulating on: February 22, 2024, 09:11:13 AM
Because of naira price that is decreasing in value, the government are looking for ways to make the price to increase. They found illegal means of importing goods but which is not new to us. That is better. But they started arresting BDC operators again which is uncalled for. Yesterday, they are contemplating about crypto exchanges.

See what one presidential aide commented about bitcoin and other crypto exchanges:

Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, had lashed out at Binance on Wednesday, saying, “It was blatantly setting exchange rate for Nigeria, hijacking CBN role.

“Binance, facing regulatory showdown in many countries, and causing disruptions in the currency market, should not be allowed to dictate the value of the naira, not on its crypto exchange platform. Other crypto platforms such as Kucoin, and Bybit should be banned from operating in our cyberspace. FX platform Aboki should be re-banned.

“The EFCC and the CBN should move against these platforms trying to manipulate our national currency to Ground Zero. Crypto should be banned in our country or else this bleeding of our currency will continue unabated.”

Why should a presidential aide be saying what he does not know but which is a misconception. Buyers and sellers are creating their ads and set their own prices on Binance which is based on the parallel market.

I take this:

474  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Mr president Tinubu alignment with Binance to restrict dollar to naira trading on: February 21, 2024, 05:23:48 PM
It is worth mentioning that this is not how to tackle the problem.

On Binance P2P, I can see many accounts restricted for buying cryptocurrencies, but not for those that wants to sell likely because they are selling to have naira.

There is something that I am not getting. Are Nigerians on Binance that are first converting to a bitcoin or a stablecoin and then sell the stable coin for dollar? That is an indirect forex. But for those that are just buying and selling naira for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, that is not forex.

For those that are selling, they have no problem. Some ads are also still available for buying.
475  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: It's over 4 months and you no wan leave? on: February 21, 2024, 10:28:16 AM
Are you the one paying for the expenses?

Is it your family house? You can not tell her to leave. But you can leave for awhile if her presence is no more convenient for you.

If it is your house, you can call her and politely ask her why is she not living. If not convenient for you, tell her politely that you can no more accommodate her. But if it is me, I can not do that if she is in need of help and if I can accommodate her. She is a female, and she has a daughter which is also a female which I do not think is a problem. But only if someone wife (like your financee) agrees to it.
476  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE NAIRA??? on: February 21, 2024, 09:27:15 AM
Op this kind of thread for this our local board nor dey necessary. Since we already get thread wey baba Charles-Tim create wey dey talk about Bitcoin price movement and the NGN value.
Na the thread be this
 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5457300.0

Instead of creating new thread the best thing to do na to just luck this thread make you go post for that thread if you get any thing to talk about the value or price of the NGN.  Like this na, you can be tagged for spamming so take my advise and luck this thread please.
My thread is mire about BTC/NGN price speculation, but we also discussed about USD/NGN on the thread. I have noticed that Nigerians while talking about BTC, they like to also relate USD with it. So I think the thread (I mean the BTC/NGN speculation thread) is good for something like this. I may later also edit the OP so that we can use it to discuss also about USD officially. I also think this thread is not necessary, especially when there are other threads that talked about it. Recently is this one: Drop your predictions for the value of dollar against naira?
477  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is this ideal? on: February 21, 2024, 09:15:03 AM
How about this? Our government is moving against currency speculators. Binance and other platforms are in their target too.

Nigeria Mulls Blocking Binance, Crypto Platforms Over Forex Manipulation

and I quote "Nigeria’s government is contemplating the drastic step of blocking Binance and other cryptocurrency platforms amid concerns over alleged forex market manipulation and illicit financial activities.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the move comes as the Nigerian currency experiences an unprecedented depreciation to an all-time low of N1,800 against the dollar in the parallel market."

Our government is now doing their usual, denying that they are incompetent and blaming the situation on artificial devaluation by currency speculators and exchanges like binance and other websites that show exchange rates.
It would be good if you make new topics with this so that more people can see it.

Nigeria government are incompetent and they have proved that again with this news. I do not see how cryptocurrency exchanges are affecting. They want to make Nigerians to go to decentralized exchanges which can be accessed with VPN. They have forgotten that no one can ban cryptocurrencies.
478  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Lost transferred bitcoin on: February 20, 2024, 07:56:07 PM
You have been using Bitcoin.com before your wife and you got the 12 word seed phrase. There is no way the wallet will not generate seed phrase for your wife. Your wife needs the seed phrase to be able to spend the coins. Else, the coins has lost.
479  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: How Does popular economic trends solve real life problem? on: February 20, 2024, 07:42:12 PM
My question is, how does this whole trend help reduce the price of dollar?
If I understood you, the trend that you referred to is about what is causing naira value to fall. What is causing it can not be the solution.

Or could it possibly make our leaders more concerned and set up strategies to help reduce the hardship on the citizens?
Our leaders with mentalities that have no solution to our problem. With the look of things, do not expect anything positive from our leaders. There are possible solutions but which our leaders can not give.

If this present government is competent to help the country to have good economy, we would have known by now. Let us see if the will prove me wrong.
480  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is this ideal? on: February 20, 2024, 07:15:47 PM
And if they ever succeed in achieving this, what then will they do with forex exchange traders? Will they sanction an exchange for trading the dollar at a high rate? These people don't even know what they are doing. This is the market, and the naira is losing value unless they start working to bring it back. All they are doing is only going to make things worse.
Stablecoins makes the US dollar to have more value, but this does not count in forex market. It is the forex market that determines the exchange rate. Correct me if wrong.

It's really very unfortunate how our government discards the major cause of a problem and begin to hold people that doesn't even have a hand in the predicament of the government in the course of their proclaimed corruption fighting. Is the bureau De Change officials the cause of naira devaluation? It's high time the EFCC stopped embarrassing officials that are no where close to the cause of an action. So now if they succeed in scaring the operators from exchanging the naira to foreign currencies would it implies that their decisions would have a positive effect on the naira devaluation?
You are correct. The cause of what is causing dollarization of the country is not solved and the government are not trying at all. It is like this country is cursed with incompetent leadership.

EFCC are one of the most useless organizations in this country, arresting BDC operators like it's their fault our economy is bad, like they're the ones who dictate the value of dollar in the country.
I was disappointed with this kind of news during this time. They are only deceiving people that they are working excellently. Arresting BDC operators is wrong because they think they are causing naira devaluation. But I guess the CBN will tell them to do so to deceive people.

I read the replies of other posters, you also agree with me. This is just an evidence of one of the reasons the economy is bad. We are not getting anything right in this country. Both the government and their officials.
