761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many individual holders of Bitcoin are there? on: January 02, 2024, 06:39:45 PM
There is no way you can know that because a single person may have more than one address. I have not seen such research or way to know how many bitcoin holders we have. You can only know about addresses and not the holders.
762  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make sure say u no de waste BTC 4 fees way 2 high– step by step guide (Electrum) on: January 02, 2024, 06:12:59 PM
But even at dat, I think say Electrum dey adjust transaction fee manually oh.
Yes, this is what this thread is also about. To let people know that they can customize their own fee on Electrum. There are some other open source wallets that can also do that.

And for dis time wey di transaction fee na one in town if you put am for dat low fee , men di receiver go wait for like two plus weeks or even month.
This thread is about how you can know the exact fee that you can use to broadcast your transaction. That is why 1miau also discussed about https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/. It is not just about using low fee, but about using accurate fee.
763  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction Rebroadcast on: January 02, 2024, 05:54:21 PM
Unfortunately, the TX wasn't included in the block viabtc mined.
It is possible that the transaction has not been dropped from the node that VIABTC is running. If you submitted the transaction and it was successfully submitted, you can wait. Sometimes it will not be included in the next block mined by ViaBTC. It might be included after many hours has passed, but still it would be included in a block that ViaBTC will later mine.

Submit the transaction again on ViaBTC. If it does not display there is no transaction with this or something but says states below in orange that the accelerating the transaction, just like you can see in the image below. Then just wait. ViaBTC will still later include it into a block.

Instead of rebroadcasting the TX from the Electrum wallet, is it the same if I do it through any website? For instance- https://blockchair.com/broadcast
If I put the TX ID there and broadcast, am I fine? Do I have to do anything else?
You are not submitting the txid but you want to submit a transaction so that it can be broadcast. There is no point in doing that, you can rebroadcast using Electrum instead. But wait and see if ViaBTC will include the transaction in a block. Be patient about this if you or your friend is not in haste.
764  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Most safe wallet for mobile wallet on: January 02, 2024, 04:29:19 PM
Your mobile wallet is online. Online wallets are not safe like cold wallets which are offline.

My advise is that you should not hold more than the amount that you can afford to lose on mobile wallets. It is good to get yourself a cold wallet. If you can not buy a hardware wallet, you can go for wallet on airgapped device.

Or you can go for multisig wallet if you need a safe online wallet. If you have 2 or 3 phones, you can use it to setup a multisig wallet.

The wallets that I have used on mobile phone that I can recommend are Bluewallet, Electrum and Samourai. For multisig, use Electrum. Although, Bluewallet has 2-of-3 multisig which is called vault, but Electrum multisig is perfect as you can use it for up to 15 signers and also you will be able to use it for 2-of-2 multisig.
765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees are high - a problem? Not for everyone! on: January 02, 2024, 04:17:25 PM
There are option for people that want to hold little amount of bitcoin. Lightning network and side chains. But their security is not as strong as that of bitcoin blockchain.

Maybe this is another in a series of topics about how the fees are too high these days, but considering that a lot of members are literally disappointed that they can't use Bitcoin the way it should be used, maybe we should clarify some things so that everyone would not continue to pretend that we live in a world where we should continue to expect that Bitcoin will become a global means of payment that will be used by just about everyone.
In my country, wẹ use local currency mostly and not using bitcoin or cryptocurrencies for spending. I have no option than to first convert my coins to fiat if I want to purchase something. I can say that many of us that were frustrated has been because higher amount of bitcoin is now required to move signature campaign earning and posting about it.

Let us hope something will be done about this mempool congestion.

If you click on preference on Electrum, you will not see fee. I mean you will not be able to edit fee manually.

That was 2019 post. It is still a good post but that requires little editing about setting Electrum fee manually. To set the fee to manual on preference, it is no longer available on the recent version of Electrum. You can only do that after you press on send, input your address and click on pay. After you click on pay, you will see this:

On the image are ? And x symbols, below the x symbol is another symbol that looks like a spinal on a screwdriver in x shape. Like this image below:

Click on it and you will see this:

Check ✔️ edit fee manually.
767  Economy / Economics / Re: And the most worthless fiat currency of 2023 was: The Iranian Rial! on: January 02, 2024, 03:04:45 PM
You think the deprecation of the US is bad, just look at what others have experienced and you might start to thank god for at least saving in $ if not BTC other than:
- russian ruble, losing 31% purchasing power
- turkish lira losing 44%
- lebanese pound losing close to 700%!!!!
Dollar is far better than many fiat currencies in this world. That is why you will see people from Africa and other continents buying fiat-pegged coins like USDT and USDC despite the risk of having them. If you go through the inflation rate in most countries in the world, you will see how fiat should not be used for savings. Although there are good ones but which are still not worth holding, especially in time like this when we are expecting bull run.

But most importantly, if you think one can't deal with Satoshi, there are proof millions are dealing daily with smaller denomination, so with Bitcoin going higher and higher, soon rather than thinking of mBTC we might have to think of mili satoshi!
As inflation persist in a country and as their fiat is becoming depreciating, what certain amount of fiat can buy in the past, it can no longer buy it in the present time. I remember when I was small, many years ago, what I can buy with ₦20 is what I will buy with ₦500 or more now. I can remember we have 50 kobo and ₦1 coins at the time. 100 kobo makes ₦1. But later, no more ₦1 coins. Recently, the common ₦5 and 10 are no more common anymore as goods and services are becoming more expensive. If inflation continues, the lower denominations may no longest exist. I am trying to point out the reason a sat may still be consider small in the countries with inflation as it will not still be able to afford food and services in the countries. Let us assume that the goods and services are not depreciating just for us to understand what I communicating, but the fiat is the one depreciating.
768  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Can this be the start? on: January 02, 2024, 02:15:24 PM
Bitcoin price was $16500 at the start of 2023, but it was $44700 at the end of 2023. Bitcoin increased 2.7 times. If you check the monthly chart of 2023, you will see how it was a bull year. All these was as expected.

We expected 2022 to be a bear year, but 2023 to be a bull year while 2024/2025 to be the year bitcoin will reach all-time-high. If this time would be for the bulls, no one yet knows. We are waiting for the United States SEC spot bitcoin ETF approval and this could be be a price increase for bitcoin but we do not know how the market may react after a bull run after the approval.

What I know more about is for people to just hold bitcoin. If the price decrease slightly, they can buy more because we are getting closer to the day bitcoin will reach all-time-high and followed by the day bitcoin will reach six digits which is $100000. This is the time not to sell at all but to hold which is what that worth discussing.
769  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is English language really necessary in our local board? on: January 02, 2024, 09:39:25 AM
Feel free to use Pidgin English as people like me use English. Do you know that we have local board rules?

1. Only Naija Pidgin and English is allowed

Did you know that few topics in English posted on English board are moved to local board if it is strictly pertaining to Nigeria?
770  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Best advice for 2024 on: January 01, 2024, 07:41:00 PM
The best advise for 2024 is to hold bitcoin. Bitcoin price might get to six digits in dollars. If you buy now, you will make some profits.

The second advise is to make more crypto research and learn better, but to be careful and avoid scammers and hackers.

The third advise is to never make the mistake you have made in the past regarding cryptocurrencies. Be patient and believe in opportunity.

Muslims should go to church? I hope most of us are not drunk yet.
772  Economy / Services / Re: [END] Mixero ADVANCED MODE Bitcoin Mixer Signature Campaign | Sr+ up-to $250/w on: December 31, 2023, 07:32:40 PM
But it was announced so you supposed to expect it to end today
No! I did not know. You are the one that is knowledgeable enough to tell me now. Your post is not necessary. Highly uncalled for and annoying.
773  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Inquiry on: December 31, 2023, 06:32:56 PM
It depends on the address type. To calculate the transaction virtual size, you can use this calculator: https://jlopp.github.io/bitcoin-transaction-size-calculator/
774  Economy / Services / Re: [END] Mixero ADVANCED MODE Bitcoin Mixer Signature Campaign | Sr+ up-to $250/w on: December 31, 2023, 01:51:59 PM
I do not wish this campaign to end. Royse777 thank you so much. Mixero thank you so much.
775  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live tracks you on: December 31, 2023, 06:00:43 AM
This has been discussed on this thread: Fuck you ledger

Read what cygan posted which is what you are also referring to: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469941.msg63308706#msg63308706

Then start reading from what o_e_l_e_o posted: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469941.msg63322241#msg63322241

I am not a fan of Ledger hardware wallet and I do not recommend it. But in the case, all hardware wallets that are not airgapped can share your information this way.

The only hardware wallets that I prefer to recommend these days are airgapped ones which are open source, like Passport, using them with external wallet like Sparrow or Electrum. But I will prefer to use Electrum or Sparrow on airgapped device instead.
776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin stability important? on: December 31, 2023, 05:30:44 AM

Being volatile is what pushed bitcoin to where it is today; it's not some fiat or stable coin for which we want it to remain at one price.
Fiat do not remain in one price. They are also volatile but less volatile than bitcoin. Bitcoin volatility is towards being an appreciating asset. But fiat volatility is towards being a depreciating asset. That is why it is not worth holding fiat.

I have noticed that most people referred to fiat pegged coins as stable coins. Are coins like wBTC, rBTC, BTCP and the likes pegged to bitcoin or unstable altcoins not stable coins? They are all stable coins just like fiat pegged coins.
777  Economy / Services / Re: Free Bitcoin Transaction Accelerator (Service) on: December 30, 2023, 10:04:36 AM
rebroadcasting the transaction with lower fees mean it will never be confirmed soon.
Rebroadcasting transactions in this regard means a transaction that supposed to have been dropped from mempool would not have dropped and find its way back because some other nodes keep rebroadcasting. Making the transaction to remain stuck in the mempool. There is no fee added.

If any fee is added, that means the coins was rebroadcasted instead as some nodes have dropped it from their mempool. Rebroadcasting this coins would require higher fee while lower fee will make no node to accept the new transaction.
778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it possible to derive a mnemonic from a given xprv? on: December 30, 2023, 09:21:23 AM
Is it also possible to calculate a mnemonic from a given extended private key?
Just as it has been explained above, it is not possible. The mnemonic is converted to seed through PBKDF2 key stretching function with 2048 rounds of hashing using HMAC-SHA12. This is irreversible and it is an effective protection against brute force attack.
779  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Nigeria unbans cryptocurrency on: December 30, 2023, 08:55:23 AM
You need to edit the title. Nigeria did not ban bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Just as what is in your content, it was the central bank of Nigeria that ban cryptocurrencies and not Nigerian government.

Before now in Nigeria transaction in crypto has always been difficult and stressful especially using P2P.
I am still using P2P and I prefer it now. I do not think I will ever use those credit cards anymore. P2P is not bad as long as you know how to avoid scammers.
780  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: [ECONOMICS] Who's Using eNaira Here. Expect Less Cash in Circulation on: December 30, 2023, 08:49:39 AM
So there is need for CBN to enforce law on e-naira banking as to make it a compulsory for it citizen to use otherwise no body will be able to use it because whatever thing that is not law enforced, its always taken for granted.S
CBN do not have the power to force citizens like this. The only thing they can do is to campaign and do things that can increase awareness which is not force. They just have to continue doing it. But I think the government has a role to play as well, some government workers of higher rank can be paid in eNaira instead of naira.
