281  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why are mining fees not refunded on: March 23, 2024, 12:13:20 PM
so saying your transaction fees should be refunded means you are indirectly saying that every node should purge your transaction from the block chain. And that would have been possible if you had made use of a fee below 6sat/byte. Probably only the node network of the wallet you used would have broadcasted it while other node will simply just purge it because of the extremely low fees.
Let us say the purging is 2.91 sat/vbyte right now. If the server of the wallet that you used set the purging to be less than usual, and you used a fee of 2.5, the server that the wallet used may make the transaction to be broadcasted successfully. But if it is by default and it is 2.91 sat/vbyte as it is Right now, any transaction with the fee rate below that will not be broadcasted by the server of the wallet used.

Also know that if the server has already broadcasted the transaction and later the server dropped the transaction in a way that the sender can spend the coins again in another transaction, if the sender decided not to spend the coin again, the sender should not be surprised if the transaction he thought to have been dropped later got confirmed because the unconfirmed transaction has been sent to other nodes and some nodes have different settings.

So if you want a transaction to be sent back to you, it is better you use RBF to cancel the transaction to send the coin to the address that you own.

transaction with a very low fee, that it is purged, what then happens to the fees since no miner included it in a block?
If a transaction is dropped from mempool, the fee will also be dropped because there is no transaction at all as the transaction dropped from mempool.

Just regard node and server as the same in my reply.
282  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why are mining fees not refunded on: March 23, 2024, 10:33:43 AM
If you cancel a bitcoin transaction, not that you actually cancel it. You only increase the fee so that the coin can be sent with higher fee to another of your wallet address.

Next time, just use pump fee/increase the fee instead if you are still willing to send the coin to the receiving address.
283  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How to view your funds in Sparrow Wallet? on: March 23, 2024, 08:00:18 AM
Balance says zero. I must have entered the wrong seedphrase. Entering 24 words is pretty tedious easy to make a mistake.

EDIT: the seedphrase is correct just verified with the view seedphrase feature in Coldcard. Don't know why funds are not appearing in Sparrow.
It could be as a result of the script type.

Try to import the seed phrase again, click on 'script type'. It is in Native Segwit by default which consist of bitcoin addresses that starts with bc1q. Click on it and you will see other script types which are:

Legacy (P2PKH) which consists of bitcoin addresses that starts with 1
Nested Segwit (P2SH-P2WPKH). Which are addresses that starts with 3
Taproot (P2TR). Which are bc1p addresses.

If you know which address your seed phrase generate, you can click on the right script type. Or just import the (seed phrase using the) 4 script type individually and check which one are funded.
284  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How to view your funds in Sparrow Wallet? on: March 23, 2024, 12:59:13 AM
If you import the seed phrase correctly, it would be on 'transaction' by default and you will be able to see your balance at the top left corner just like this:

Know that if you import seed phrase on online wallet, the seed phrase is no more safe as it was on cold wallet. If you want to continue using Coldcare or other hardware wallet, generate the seed phrase using the hardware wallet and not on online wallet.
285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: in future are you hoping to see some countries in Africa legalis bitcoin. on: March 22, 2024, 01:33:48 PM
Bitcoin is already legalized in some Africa countries.
Not in some, but in almost all Africa countries because either the government of the country do not talk about it at all or they legalize it. I do not think there are up to 5 countries in Africa that illegalize bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in Africa.
286  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DCA vs Smart DCA, what do you choose? on: March 22, 2024, 12:41:42 PM
To be honest I choose the DCA method over Smart DCA at the moment. Because I don't have enough money to buy a lot of bitcoins at once that's why I'm not using the smart DCA method.
Both DCA and smart DCA do not require huge capital to start because you are not investing at ones in both. Just that in normal DCA, you will buy bitcoin at certain time interval like a week, biweekly or monthly. But in smart DCA, you will buy bitcoin after price fall weekly, biweekly or monthly. Like saying buying the dip.
287  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Will the Prices of Cooking Gas Ever come down in Nigeria on: March 22, 2024, 11:48:53 AM
I guess that is what this present government are planing to do. I read that PMS will likely reduce in price if the refinery in Port Harcourt is fully functional but I do not know much about about gases. Let us just hope everything will become cheaper. But as of now, dollar is appreciating in price but they may also say insufficient storage for gases can make the supply not to be enough or sufficient and the demand is high which is leading to increase in the price.

is also important to Note that since cooking gas is imported using The United States Dollars,Same will continue to increase if the Nigeria Naira continue to devalue.
Shame on us. The gases are by-products of crude oil. Nigeria is the leading crude oil producer in Africa.
288  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Government demanding from Binance the lists of its Nigerian users on: March 22, 2024, 11:31:27 AM
I've removed my banking details from Binance p2p and I will advise everyone to do the same thing.
It could make sense to do this, but i don't think deleting it means you have completely deleted it from Binance's database. They are a centralized exchange, so definitely have all data stored somewhere and if they ever have to give it to the government, they would do that, even if you have deleted yours from your own account.
You are correct. We should not believe in centralized platform even if it says no data is collected. According to Binance, about people's data retention, I found this:

11. How Long Does Binance Keep My Personal Data?

We keep your personal data to enable your continued use of Binance Services, for as long as it is required in order to fulfil the relevant purposes described in this Privacy Notice, and as may be required by law such as for tax and accounting purposes, compliance with Anti-Money Laundering laws, or to resolve disputes and/or legal claims or as otherwise communicated to you.

While retention requirements vary by jurisdiction, information about our typical retention periods for different aspects of your personal data are described below.

Personal Identifiable Data collected to comply with our legal obligations under financial or anti-money laundering laws may be retained after account closure for as long as is required under such laws.

Contact Information such as your name, email address and telephone number for marketing purposes is retained on an ongoing basis and until you (a) unsubscribe, or we (b) delete your account. Thereafter we will add your details to an unsubscribed list to ensure we do not inadvertently market to you.

Content that you post on our website such as support desk comments, photographs, videos, blog posts, and other content may be kept after you close your account for audit and crime prevention purposes.

Recording of voice calls with you may be kept for a period of up to six years, for audit/ compliance purposes and to resolve disputes and/or legal claims.

Information collected via cookies, web page counters and other analytics tools is kept for a period of up to one year from the date of the collection of the cookie of the relevant cookie.

Even if anything is deleted, we should know that Binance still have the information.
289  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to use unused BTC adressess from dynamic wallet as a new? on: March 22, 2024, 11:13:47 AM
Is it possible to use one of the previously generated empty addressees to receive token once more in future?
The addresses are yours and you can use any of the addresses at anytime and as many as possible times. Example are signature campaign participants on this forum, each campaign participants submit just one bitcoin address to their campaign managers which is used for payment every week. So do not be worry if you are not bothered about privacy.
290  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Useful information for Nigerian newbies on: March 21, 2024, 05:26:15 PM
The reward for labour is wages in relation to the forum, the reward for our posts is merit which will in-turn fetch us some cash in form of signature campaigns.
Now I have been in the forum for sometime now. My activity has grown to the level where I should be in the member rank but merit has limited me. I have been coming across some threads where one can appeal for merit but I discovered that the thread is always closed from replies not until a particular date i was lucky though to apply from one of the thread but no result till now. I'm using this medium to appeal for thread where I can make further appeals to rank up. I have been tolling like Peter in the bible without fish I need some reward to compensate my little effort.
You can report of your posts on these threads:

[self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source
[Merit] Share your best posts/threads with Fillippone to be merit assessed

Make sure you read the rules. If you are posting good, those threads would be helpful, especially the second thread.
291  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor's Twitter (X) Account Hacked on: March 21, 2024, 05:02:02 PM
Strange how this could happen when they had strong password and 2FA activated in twitter, this was confirmed.
Either this was some insider leak from trezor team, or twitter has some serious security flaws, and I would not be surprised if this was the case.
With what Pmalek later posted, Trezor accepted the fault is from them (Trezor).

I don't trust clown Musk and his twitter with anything so I automatically not blindly trusting tweets from anyone.
I thought there have been several Twitter accounts hacked before Elon Musk bought Twitter. But just that the hackers are having more knowledge daily and the hack become common. I think aside setting the 2FA app or security key, we also need not to click on any link as Trezor did or they should do it on a separate device instead.

Trezor has released a report with more details of the hack. Here are the most important points:

- Trezor didn't use SMS for 2FA. They used a more secure method without naming what.
- It was a phishing attack that was in the works for several weeks.
- The hacker contacted Trezor's PR team pretending to want to arrange an interview with the CEO. After several rounds of communication, the hacker shared a Calendly invite, which turned out to be a malicious link.
- Trezor's team member connected the company's Twitter profile to the fake app, giving the attacker a permission to post and control of the account.
- Trezor revoked the malicious access when they became aware of what happened.
Which means the fault is still from Trezor.
292  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Are there some charges to use Bitcoin ATMs ? on: March 21, 2024, 01:52:36 PM
There are charges and the charges are always high compare to what you pay without using a bitcoin ATM. There is only one in my country, which I have not used, but it is located in Lagos.
If you click on that link, you can see that there are two bitcoin ATMs in Nigeria and both located in Lagos. I have not also used any of the two before and I do not know how functional they are.
293  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Are there some charges to use Bitcoin ATMs ? on: March 21, 2024, 01:47:27 PM
You can use this link to know the bitcoin locations and the countries they are located: https://coinatmradar.com/countries/

You can check the bitcoin ATM providers and the amount they are charging as fee. It is always expensive.
294  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Government demanding from Binance the lists of its Nigerian users on: March 21, 2024, 01:00:47 PM
The Headline I meant today
click the link below and see the full tori. Will Binance provide this information to the government and it agencies?

Court Orders Binance to Hand Over 'Comprehensive' User Data to Nigerian Authorities
The high court of Nigeria e don order Binance to comprehensively provide the users of it exchange to Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) with immediate effect. Now my question is why to the EFCC? According to the news, it is because of the price manipulation that EFCC is coming into the matter. Well if dem no use hunt any user of the exchange and it is pure for the reduction of the dollar and increase of naira fight then no problem.
We have talked about this and you can read some replies after I posted it.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5487027.msg63824366#msg63824366

EFCC will use it to look for money laundering, terrorism financing and other illegal money transactions. That is the work of EFCC.

The detained Binance officials were taken to high court today and the court extended the detaining to another two weeks. And names of these detainees are: Tigran Gambaryan from U.S and Nadeem Anjarwalla feom British. https://saharareporters.com/2024/03/21/detained-binance-executives-appear-nigerian-high-court-remain-detention-two-weeks
They should just let us know that the detention is indefinite and not two weeks extension.
295  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Do you know these about Bitcoin speculation and prediction on: March 21, 2024, 12:52:57 PM
Quote from: Obim34 link=topic=5489758.msg63835700#msg63after halving. 835700 date=1711007219
While Bitcoin prediction is on the theory that after every halving comes a new ATH, back in 2012  after the first halving Bitcoin surged from $11 to $1100, second having it as well increased to $20k, followed by the third halving it also increased to $65k now we are heading towards the fourth halving, this will help us denote the fact that we must surely see a new All Time High which we may likely predict the price of Bitcoin to be.
You are correct. From technical analysis and also with other analyses, bitcoin price will increase after halving. But point of correction, some all-time-high prices you mentioned are not accurate, especially the all-time-high in 2021 which is $69000 and not $65000. But to be expecting all-time-high, yes we should. It is worth knowing that the present all-time-high occured in this year some weeks ago which was $73800.
296  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Let's be more careful with local exchanges. on: March 21, 2024, 12:39:34 PM
Since Binance removed peer-to-peer (p2p) trading, many Nigerians have switched to other exchanges that still support it. Binance has been the go-to exchange for us Nigerians for a long time. However, when exploring new p2p exchanges, some have different trading patterns and fewer traders, increasing the risk of scams.
Binance is just one of the exchanges with centralized P2P and there are others that are good as Binance.

If you can not be scammed on Binance, you will also be able not to get scammed on other centralized P2P exchanges.

Binance is not that better from many other centralized P2P exchanges.

The centralized P2P are kind of similar.

When I meant local exchange, it's those exchange you can find locally in your area or within Nigeria(owned by Nigerians themselves). some local exchange in my area except they publish there services online, or are well known within the country, can't be in your area. The name of the local exchange my friend used was swift exchange. It's just known locally by small traders.
Local exchanges are exchanges in your country. Just as we are Nigerians, local exchanges are exchanges that have offices in Nigeria. I have not heard of Swift exchange before and I can not recommend it.
297  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Government demanding from Binance the lists of its Nigerian users on: March 21, 2024, 12:29:26 PM
The thing is binance wouldn’t comply but rather look for ways to reduce the damage that is by paying some fine that the government will ask of but definitely not the $10B. Other government like the US had in the past accused them of money laundering and CZ then took the hit of stepping down from his role and both him and the entity were fined and that’s it.
We do not know what will happen. As some people and organizations are seeking for United States intervention, it is possible that our government may still demand for lists of Nigeria Binance users. If the US government also agree to that, Binance will not have any other option if their officials are not released from detention.

The reason why I don’t see them releasing the names is because it will look like a breach go right to their customers and they might lose there customers to that, not only In Nigeria but around the world. Many of their customers might see them as push overs by the government and any country can use it against them and we all know even though people submitted KYC they will still want it not to get to their government
Exactly. But people should expect something like this if they go for KYC. KYC can be extremely dangerous.
298  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: How to solve network issues for men and airtel on: March 21, 2024, 12:23:57 PM
Me I dey use portable mini WiFi wey I dey use, and Naim dey help me meet up my daily activities. Sometimes too E dey worry because of say na MTN but my Airtel dey work normally. Any body wey get money make E buy like 3 simcard MTN Airtel and glo, then come buy portable universal mini WiFi sothat if network no dey 1 you fit put 1of the remaining 2 inside the wi-fi no how wey network no go dey for 1 or 2 among the 3 simcard wey you get.
I have MTN 5G router and the network was absolutely bad. I even recorded better network on phone than on the router during the time. But your other advice is good that someone needs to have other providers sim cards and not to just go for one. I am using just MTN which is the best network provider in my area. I have Airtel, Glob and 9mobile but they are not working anymore. I later had to change to Glo which solved the network issue. I changed back to MTN 3 days ago and the network has been good till now.
299  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor's Twitter (X) Account Hacked on: March 20, 2024, 06:33:56 PM
I have X to blame more about this. Hacking someone's X account is something common nowadays. We hear about new hack every week or less. Even United States SEC account was hacked. If X want to protect people's accounts and have better security, sim authentication should be removed while remain authentication app and security key which is hardware 2FA.

I also have Trezor to blame about this. They are hardware wallet company but failed not to use either the security key or the authentication app.

Trezor has regained access to their account and confirmed the hack. They also said that they used a strong password and had 2FA activated on Twitter. Some speculate it was a SIM swap attack.
They have just used now or they used strong password before? Also what kind of 2FA they used? If it is sim authentication, they are very stupid and foolish.

According to ZachXBT (https://twitter.com/zachxbt/status/1770237007366639681), the hack wasn't successful compared to many others. The address received a little over $8,000 in SOL.
It is because this type of scam is common and not new anymore.

I do not think Trezor also care about their customers at all. Not long when people that subscribed to their newsletter email accounts were compromised, now their X account.
300  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Develop to maintain your bitcoin holding anonymously to the core. on: March 20, 2024, 05:59:48 PM
Samourai Wallet
Bitcoin Core
Sparrow
Electrum
Passport
Bluewallet
These are good and reputed wallets. But only Bitcoin Core is recommended for privacy because if you want privacy, you have to run your own node. Others that you mentioned are SPV wallets while only Bitcoin Core is the full client among them. Although, there are ways you can use SPV wallets and have some privacy but you will still have to depend on central servers which knows about your wallet addresses and IP addresses. So if you want to have privacy with SPV wallet, you need to have several wallets on several devices or rerouting your Tor each time you are connecting to another wallet.
