881  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make we keep our pigin unique on: December 19, 2023, 09:27:22 AM
Other local boards they speak their own language which they understand very, and I think in their country English might be an official language which they also learn in school.  But the essence of the local board is for them to use their own language to explain thing very well for them to enjoy discussion in their board.  As for we the people of naija English is not our language,  it is a borrowed language that most of that went to school and graduated with good grade we still find it difficult to speak and write English very well.if we must speak English here I don't see any why we should have naija local board.

English is mostly spoken in countries colonized by Britain, but not all countries are speaking English. Some countries are not speaking English at all and they use their local language to communicate which is good that way.

Nigeria has many languages and non we accept on this forum. Pidgin is derived from English and not a local language. Pidgin is also not our language if your regard English not to be out language. Pidgin is derived from English.
882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anything to worry about if you use mixers and not doing anything illegal? on: December 19, 2023, 07:00:51 AM
Anything to worry about if you use mixers and not doing anything illegal?
To avoid centralized exchanges. Because they may seize your coins and tell you to verify your account. Also on those KYC exchanges, they may seize your coins at anytime and ask you to provide how you get the coins.

Will posts like this be banned too after Jan?
Yes. Not Coinjoin like those on Sparrow and Samourai. Coinjoin are not banned on this forum.

- Mixer URLs will be automatically wordfiltered out, but you can still discuss mixers otherwise.
883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the transaction fee will high if I send small amount under $50 on: December 19, 2023, 06:52:08 AM
Will the transaction fee will high if I send small amount under $50
hd49728 has given the correct answer. The fee paid is determined by

  • The fee rate used, which is determined by how congested the mempool is. The higher the congestion, the higher the fee rate and the higher the fee that would be paid
  • The number of inputs and outputs. As the inputs increase in a transaction, it makes the weight and virtual size of the transaction to increase. Also the output increases the transaction fee. The higher the output the higher the fee, but we can say increase in output still decrease the transaction fee because if you send to individual address one by one, the fee paid will be high than sending to many addresses at ones.
  • The address type used. If you use segwit, the fee to be paid will be lower than while using legacy addresses.
884  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is Electrum affected by this Ledger exploit going on? on: December 19, 2023, 06:35:32 AM
The point I took from what Lucius said was how to keep Bitcoin safely stored through any means and not limited to HW or even specific brands.
I will still be one of the users that mostly mention paper wallet and wallet on airgapped device on this forum. What he is proving is that adaseb is not a newbie and likely not comfortable with me not recommending Ledger. But anyone that post about Ledger, I will still let the person know how Ledger is not a recommendable wallet. Although, it is just a forum with free speech, you can also post yours.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search2

I suggest that the use of hardware wallets is not limited to specific brands, but instead, security functions, of course, are adjusted to the user's budget to choose based on their search results
Then you can post about the hardware wallets that you will recommend. I have gone through the features those hardware wallets have and I prefer Passport among them all. I also prefer Trezor before until they brought close source secure element with the Trezor Safe 3. For altcoins hardware wallet I still recommend Trezor Model T. If it is Ledger, I can never recommend such wallet. Ledger Nano is a wallet that do not care about their customers privacy and full control and yet becoming to be more of a wallet that can not be recommended.
885  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is Electrum affected by this Ledger exploit going on? on: December 18, 2023, 05:36:30 PM
You repeat the same thing in countless posts as if older members are not already aware of the risks that come with using Ledger - and you also advise buying HW that you most likely don't even own and that costs around $300 outside the US. Keeping Bitcoin "safe" is much more than owning any HW, although some people realize this too late.

Are you feeling not comfortable that I am repeating it? Which means you do not have to read my post because I will continue to repeat it anytime we are discussing about hardware wallet.

Yes, I do not have Passport hardware wallet, but you can give any flaws the hardware wallet has to correct me instead of your pointing towards something not useful.

I use 2-of-3 multisig which I have also posted about few times on this forum. But using hardware wallet like Passport is still a good idea, even though I will still prefer to use hardware wallet multisig setup with online wallets.

I have also repeated several times about using wallet like Electrum on airgapped devices, which I will like with passphrase backups in different locations from its seed phrase.
886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: brain wallet with lightning network support? on: December 18, 2023, 02:52:38 PM
If you want to use a lightning network, do not forget you have to open a channel and pay for onchain fee which is expensive. Or you can use the lightning wallet that you do not have to open a channel like Muun wallet, but with little amount of coins.

If you used legacy address to store your coins on blockchain and thinking you can transfer the coins without onchain transaction first to open a channel, that is not possible.

To move the coins, you can use 3 UTXO counts each (I mean 3 inputs) sent to an address each in a transaction if you have many inputs. Then, use ViaBTC free accelerator to accelerate the transactions.
887  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why was the block size not increased? on: December 18, 2023, 01:58:35 PM
All I heard was that the block size was not increased and this led to the creation of Bitcoin Cash. It was a fork but it is an altcoin (shit coin) while bitcoin remain the bitcoin.

But I am thinking recently that if the block size is increased, more transactions can be processed and the mempool will not be congested. If the block size can be in a way that 1 sat/vbyte transactions can all be processed in the next block, will this not be good?

If the block size is increased, what is its disadvantage to bitcoin network and miners?
888  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I buy bitcoin ETF now? on: December 18, 2023, 01:36:49 PM
the other downside is
if you bought 1btc direct.. its still 1btc in 30 years

however an ETF comes with annual fee's where by buying 1btc worth of shares. becomes 0.54btc worth of shares in 30 years (assuming their 2% annual fee)
He is referring to a token called BTCETF. He is not referring to Bitcoin ETF. So there is still nothing like annual fee, but it is just a token. Some people that will buy this token may be confused that it is the bitcoin ETF but it is not. It is an ERC20 token and definitely an altcoin.
889  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: RBF. What are the dangers of making it mandatory for all Transactions? on: December 17, 2023, 09:25:03 PM
When full RBF has been implemented, it is because full RBF is not enabled by default. A node that will have to support it will have to enable it.

Any transaction can be replaced, if you can find a node that has your transaction in its mempool and that enable full RBF. O r if you run your own node and enable it, you will be able to replace any transaction.
890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core transaction is stuck on: December 17, 2023, 08:46:04 PM
The transaction is over 2 weeks and most nodes have dropped the transaction from their mempool. You should be able to see your coins on your wallet balance and be able to rebroadcast it in another transaction.
891  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction is pending because fee was too low, now what on: December 17, 2023, 05:10:05 PM
- The 2nd one is to do a CPFP with high fee if you have full control of the receiving address you can do this.
If he used like just 1 inputs and 2 outputs, there is no need for this because the transaction would have been confirmed or will still be confirmed. That fee will be enough. I wish he tells us the fee rate that he used.

- The 3rd one import your backup phrase to Electrum and bump the fee.
He will not be able to do that if the transaction is not supporting replace-by-fee. Unless he tries to look for node that is supporting full RBF. I have not done this before and I do not know how it works because all my transaction are supporting replace-by-fee.
892  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction is pending because fee was too low, now what on: December 17, 2023, 04:02:26 PM
Do you use Bluewallet because I only experience this on bluewallet whenever I open it while my data is still not on then load the wallet. You can check your transaction on blockchain explorer to see what fee is used is sats/vB format. Mempool is the best explorer to determine suggested fee and the details of the transaction.

You use a high fee so you just need to wait a little until the mempool clear some space.
Bluewallet supports RBF. So I do not think he used Bluewallet.

https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC,1y,weight is the best that I know of to check the fee rate. mempool.space is also good and accurate.
893  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction is pending because fee was too low, now what on: December 17, 2023, 03:51:33 PM
If the transaction is not having high inputs and/or outputs, that fee will likely later be enough to get the transaction confirmed. Just wait and let the mempool become less congested.

One final question. As the fee is expressed in sats/vb. How do I know how many vbytes my transaction is?
Paste the txid into the space on this site and check the details. you will see the fee rate (sat/vbyte) that you used.

https://mempool.space/

Before broadcasting a transaction at all, you should be able to see the fee rate. Use reputed wallet like Electrum, Sparrow or Bluewallet.
894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help accelerate my transactions I will pay 30.00 USD. on: December 17, 2023, 02:05:25 PM
ViaBTC now says "Accelerating the transaction", instead of the green "added" they used to add. Anyway, I added the second one for OP, it'll probably confirm within about 6 hours.
I tried it and it says the same thing. It means someone else has submitted the transaction before you. Probably hosseinimr93 submitted it. You will still see the transaction submitted successfully or so in green if you are the one that submitted it.
895  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Could the BIP39 word list be completely replaced? on: December 17, 2023, 09:46:20 AM
BIP39 word lists are also in other languages

https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/bip-0039-wordlists.md

In the future, can the entire word list be completely replaced by a more comprehensive and agreed-upon BIP?
Or is it mathematically impossible to proceed with that substitution?
]
I do not think this will be possible in the future. I do not think it is worth speculating on. But no one knows what will happen in the future.
896  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Keeping our identity hidden on: December 17, 2023, 07:10:53 AM
Probably you may still have something to explain, or to explain more about what you are talking about.

If you post on local board, you have reveal your country already. As a Nigerian, we encourage Nigerians to post on local board. Although, not necessary if the person do not want to reveal his country.
897  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Import a Bitcoin Core private key into Electrum wallet that supports Lightning? on: December 16, 2023, 06:49:22 PM
You can generate a seed phrase, keys and addresses on Electrum and send your coins that you want to use to open a channel there. If you think the fee is too expensive, use ViaBTC free accelerator. If you can not use ViaBTC accelerator, you can let us know your txid. Make sure the transaction size is not more than 500 byte (not 500 vbytes).
898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: This is beyond craziness on: December 16, 2023, 05:12:37 PM
Bitcoin transaction fee can be part of it, but the main reasons are the BRC20 tokens. You can see how the transaction of SATS would have increased recently. ORDI s still part of them. There are some like RATS that are part of them. There are many BRC20 tokens and there are more that will be created if this continues. Something needs to be done.
899  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: [SCAM PREVENTION]Setting a Sim Card Password May Save from Theft of your Funds on: December 16, 2023, 04:45:01 PM
I think we have discussed about this on this local board some months ago, but I am unable to find the topic. I am referring to a topic that educate how to avoid your money from being stolen on Opay, Kuda and banks.

But emphasizing on how pin lock is very important makes this thread useful.

A solution I found out for this issue is to use an eSIM but who wants to go through this stress?
There is nothing hard in esim activation, but most phones are not supporting it. The phones that I know are supporting it are those most expensive phones that are two or more times expensive than midrange phones. Phones like Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max and Google Pixel 8 et cetera.
900  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Why most Nigerian struggle financially in January on: December 16, 2023, 03:19:07 PM
I think what the OP is trying to point at, is the struggles and hurdles that occurs during this festive period
No. What he meant is that most Nigeria spend more during the festive period in a way they spend more on clothes and tourism which he called travelling.

I don't see anywhere that the Op talked about Nigerians buying used clothes but Instead he made mentioned of new clothes
Yes. He mentioned new clothes. I mentioned used clothes which is common to buy in Nigeria and some people are buying it which can be  those that are less privileged. That people are cutting cloth according to their sizes. Some people spend more during festive period, but not that they are not wise.

if you not you would understand the notion the OP is driving at because during this period alot of Nigerians tend to do all sort of crazy things especially the average and low standard and they do all these in name of trying to meet up and some of the youths even go as far as kidnapping and doing all sort of vile act such as human sacrifice just to meet up with the season spending spree.
So the festive period should not be celebrated? Who is wasting money during the festive period to show off will continue to waste money to show off after the festive period. Festive period are what we planned ahead and if you like it or not, you will spend more during that time. It is a time you will but new cloths and spend more on family, but to still spend wisely.
