701  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: January 12, 2024, 03:21:03 PM
I guess they are slowly working their way towards speeding up altcoin blockchains as well. Your reply is the opposite of what Charles-Tim said earlier. According to him, he now needs even more time to synchronize his Litecoin and Dash balances. Maybe it was just a temporary problem on his end or you have different assets, and some are now syncing faster, while others still aren't.
I have not tested bitcoin cash on it before but it synchronized very fast when I tried it just now.

For litecoin, on my two mobile devices, it is not synchronizing at all now after I left it open for 5 minutes 0% synchronization. I tried it just now.

For dash, on both devices, it is very slow. The synchronization got to 26% after 5 minutes on the first device while 38% after 5 minutes on the second device. Also I tried it just now.

That is not the only problem if you have this kind of coins. If you want to send them, it can be pending for minutes and later become failed. It happened when I wanted to send litecoin in the past. I tried it there times before it was send successfully. The third time that I sent the coin, it was first pending for several minutes if not hours.
702  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transactions confirmation. on: January 11, 2024, 10:07:41 PM
There isn't any possibilities of reversing the transaction even at one confirmation so how's that the reason?

You can read more about chain reorg: https://learnmeabitcoin.com/technical/chain-reorganisation

There is a link posted by Helena Yu: https://jlopp.github.io/bitcoin-confirmation-risk-calculator/

You can see on the link that Foundry USA has the highest mining hashrates of 27%, using it to determine the possibility of a transaction that has been confirmed to get back to the mempool and become unconfirmed. For 1 confirmation, the probability is 56.66%. The more than confirmation, the lesser the possibility.
703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mempool and why it's getting more attention this days on: January 11, 2024, 04:28:07 PM
My question is how can the mempool be improved to speed up transaction even with it congestions, aside from high fee's?
The way mempool is, only high transaction fee that is enough to get a transaction confirmed early when the mempool is congested is the only thing that you can do. Although, if you know a mining pool operator, the person can help you to include your transaction into a block. There is free ViaBTC accelerator, but people that wants to submit their transactions every hour are many, taking up the 100 transactions within 1 or 2 seconds, making it not impossible for most people to make use of the free accelerator.
704  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: My transaction is stuck since 8 days please help on: January 11, 2024, 01:59:28 PM
From that site (bitcoin.io) I don’t think Op can have access to the private key.
He should be able to.

On a general basis I think this days even if a transaction doesn’t have RBF opt in there is a way to double spend it since most node have their settings as full RBF. This way the two transactions might still be in different nodes pools and the one that gets mined first will be the choosen one while the other is invalidated
He should be able to rebroadcast it through a server that enable full RBF. But I have not tried this before because my transaction always supports opt-in RBF.
705  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: My transaction is stuck since 8 days please help on: January 11, 2024, 01:41:11 PM
Do not panic if the transaction doesn’t get confirmed in a week’s time it might be dropped depending on if the wallet or platform doesn’t rebroadcast it or some nodes do not still have it
Most nodes are using the default settings. If he has the private key or the see phrase of the wallet, he can import it on Electrum and be able to rebroadcast the coin in a new transaction. Just like I have commented before, if he is not able to do that, he should not connect the server automatically but manually and look for the server that has dropped the transaction. He will be able to rebroadcast the coin in a new transaction right now.

There are ways of speeding the transaction by increasing the fees but the amount is too small for the hassle.
I do not really understand what you meant. But it is with knowing that he will not be able to increase the fee because the transaction is not supporting replace-by-fee.
706  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: My transaction is stuck since 8 days please help on: January 11, 2024, 01:34:32 PM
Any transaction that is not having fee rate of 22.88 sat/vbyte would most likely has been dropped from mempool because that is the purging right now. If you have the seed phrase of the wallet, import it on Electum. You should be able to rebroadcast the coin in a new transaction.

If you are unable to rebroadcast the coin on Electrum, change the server settings from automatic to manual and select each server one by one and resynchronize your wallet to see if your transaction has been dropped by the mempool of a server so that you will be able to rebroadcast the coin.
707  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't open/find Electrum app in Windows a year+ after installation on: January 11, 2024, 11:49:34 AM
Your wallet has the keys. Your seed phrase can generate the keys. If you have the seed phrase, you can use it to restore your wallet and spend the coins on it.

But make sure that it is the correct seed phrase for your coins not to get lost.
708  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transactions confirmation. on: January 11, 2024, 07:44:57 AM
1 confirmation means your transaction is already included in a block by the miners and it is irreversible anymore.
Not common but it can be reversed. This can happen when two miners mine the same block at the same time. Although, the transactions on the blocks that the miners mined will likely be the same, and there should not be a problem, but if there are transactions on the block that become orphaned and not on the block that become the longest chain, the transaction will become unconfirmed again and make its way back to the mempool. But likely the transaction will become confirmed again as a miner will later include it in a block. But what if the fee used is low and the mempool suddenly become congested in a way that the transaction would be dropped from mempool. It is better to wait for more confirmation if the amount is high.
709  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transactions confirmation. on: January 11, 2024, 07:14:29 AM
Only one 1 confirmation is needed for a transaction to be confirmed. But if it is high amount of bitcoin, you can wait for more confirmation because the more the confirmation, the difficult it becomes for the transaction to be reversed.
710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 994 USD fees (30 Sat/byte) on: January 10, 2024, 08:35:26 AM
The transaction inputs (which will be high) would be the reason. The best would be to wait until the mempool become less congested. There is nothing that can be done.

X safety team said the United States SEC X account that was compromised was due to sim swap.

You can read about it from here: https://x.com/Safety/status/1744924042681897343?s=20

No 2FA or security key enabled.
712  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking! Bitcoin ETF approved by SEC. on: January 10, 2024, 06:44:22 AM
Just because it's called the Securities and Exchange Commission, doesn't mean that they are Security experts Wink you got two different words here.

Governments at large do not really know how to do cybersecurity, because the hackers are faster than not only the researchers, but they are also faster than whatever dinosaurs in the government are making policy - even the FBI can't do much to help here.
I am disappointed with the United States SEC for not using 2FA to secure their X account. I will also blame it on Twitter also because it is one of the social media that people's and organization's account are getting compromised. If something like this is happening, they should let people to be using 2FA compulsorily. But I am highly still disappointed that this could be coming from the SEC.
713  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Inquiry on: January 10, 2024, 06:11:32 AM
The exchange is a KYC exchange. That means there is no way you can block the trace. As long as you have the coin on the exchange, it can be linked to you even if you later mix it using a mixer or coinjoin.

The best you can do is to sell the coin on the exchange and make use of decentralized exchange to buy the coin. Then you can mix or coin it if you want.

But it would be perfect if you do not make use of centralized exchange at all. Make use of decentralized exchange.

It is a fake news

https://twitter.com/GaryGensler/status/1744833049064288387

United States SEC X account was compromised which Gary Gensley has just tweeted. People should disregard this. I was wondering why bitcoin price that was increasing after the news started to decrease. It is a fake news. No spot bitcoin ETF approval yet.

@I_Anime
You can edit the topic title to something like this: [Fake]SEC duh really approves ETF
715  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: SEC duh really approves ETF on: January 09, 2024, 09:36:31 PM
Yes, it has been approved. But do not forget to include United States. I mean United States SEC.

After the approval, bitcoin price increased to $48100 and later dropped to $44750, but now at $46000. Let us be expecting something better. It is a good news though but I hope we would later see price increase.
716  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Getting international passport is now easier on: January 09, 2024, 10:54:19 AM
despite all this delay challenges, people still find the cost of doing it to be more expensive than before, government can do more in making things as more affordable for the people just as the way they have reduced the extended time of getting it done.
I think one of the reasons for the increase in price is that more people are requesting for it. But another reason which I am certain about is the naira devaluation that is causing rise in the costs of goods and services.
717  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: January 09, 2024, 08:09:19 AM
0.37.0 was released a couple of weeks ago, but was only pushed to the play store yesterday

The only thing that is probably worth mentioning is the fast syncing for bitcoin. You can find the detailed changelog here[1]

[1] https://github.com/horizontalsystems/unstoppable-wallet-android/releases
I have just updated to the latest version and I noticed there is no more synchronizing issue for bitcoin all address types. But it is not my bitcoin wallet. One of the reasons is because it is not supporting replace-by-fee and because I will like my bitcoin to be on a bitcoin-only wallet. I still enjoy Electrum and Sparrow to a greater extent, while Electrum, Bluewallet and Samourai on mobile devices. But this is a good improvement.

I hope Unstoppable wallet developers will do the same for altcoins that have the synchronizing issue. Like litecoin and dash. I checked both but still the same like before. Both even take longer time to synchronize than before.

Also for altcoins users, if more coins is added would be good. A friend of mine asked me a wallet that is supporting algorand some weeks ago. I searched for it on Unstoppable wallet and I was unable to see it. There are still other well known coins that the wallet is not supporting.

There is another one that I see as a major improvement, especially for newbies. Which is spam transaction filter that would be against address poisoning. I see this as a major improvement because some people send their altcoins to attacker's address this way and only noticed when it is too late already.
718  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Am I being scammed again? on: January 08, 2024, 06:26:23 PM
Make this clearer. Or they gave you seed phrase and you imported it and saw 6800 USDT which I think is what you will be saying? The seed phrase is just a watch-only and any money sent to the address on that wallet is lost because you will not be able to spend the coins. Only the scammer will be able to spend the coin.

Or they gave you a fake Atomic wallet download link which is also a scam as posted earlier.
719  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet can i use for my needs on: January 08, 2024, 02:48:44 PM
Bitcoin wallet recommendation, read what I posted here just today for me not to repeat myself: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5480802.msg63461485#msg63461485

Online wallet are not that safe but you can use it for little amount of coins. Electrum, Sparrow and Bluewallet are recommended for desktop. Electrum, Bluewallet and Samourai for mobile devices.

For altcoins online, use Unstoppable. Unstoppable not supporting much coins and may have synchronizing issue with some altcoins, you may need to get yourself hardware wallet like Trezor which is even safer. Online wallets are not safe.
720  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is Investing into crypto really safe? on: January 08, 2024, 12:46:53 PM
The most important things to first know are the coins to invest on and the right time to buy. Some people will invest on a shitcoins while some people will invest at the wrong time. These are the two most costly mistakes someone that wants to invest on coins and tokens can make.

The recommended coin is bitcoin. Make further research to know some other ones. Last year has been the time we have been advising people to invest in bitcoin, but it is never too late for now.
