1341  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This Smells Like Hypocrisy on: January 24, 2023, 08:45:21 PM
Quote
Gambling in Japan is not black and white. In fact, gambling is considered a criminal offence and is generally banned across the country.

Those that are found gambling can face large fines and even serve jail time.

However, there are exceptions to this rule. Betting on horse racing and the lottery are two forms of gambling that are accepted in Japan.

To me, this seems hypocritical. You claim that gambling is illegal, but you may bet on horse racing, Pachinko, bicycle racing, boat racing, and Mahjong, which baffles me. I do not seem to understand. Why is that so? You claim it is unlawful, yet wagering on games that are overseen by the government is not unlawful. Is this not hypocritical? What does the government fear?

https://gamblingnewsmagazine.com/gambling-in-japan/
There’s always an exception in every banning just like horse racing and motor racing as they are very popular and in demand in Japan and the government is also seeing a lot of profits from it. Same goes with lottery too, though it’s never a part of Japan’s tradition but knowing lottery can be taxed, and in every winner the government also benefit from it, that’s why the government of Japan continue to legalize it instead of banning.
1342  Economy / Economics / Re: What was your lowest point financially? How did you go through it ? on: January 23, 2023, 09:59:01 PM

that's why I said always have extra funds and this is not that hard to achieve , lowering your expenses daily(tighten your belt for small amount)  will help us have this extra funds and that is how i do life,
with my wife supporting that? yeah it can be our bread and butter in harder days trust me.
I once reached to zero - I lost all my money to the hand of a scammer and that was a loan money.
I was hitted hard. One the money gone and the loan payoff. It was horrible - for almost one month I was having sleepless nights but then I realized it wont work and I have to do extra shifts - and I did it! Paid off the loan in 4 months.
It’s either you face your problem and works hard even more to have additional sources of income to pay the loan, or just let your mental and emotional health become damaged just because of your own mistake. I’m glad you do the right thing. But you know what, if you have the right mindset from the beginning, you will never experience something like this. People usually commit mistakes and losses because of their own wrong thinking, but if that’s the only way they’ll learn, then it’s better to experience something like this and just don’t repeat the same mistake again.

How about the Brooklyn Nets against the Phoenix Suns? That's the 4th consecutive loss of the Nets team without Kevin Durant.
I always thought it will be like the freedom for Kyrie as a lone star, take the lead and showcase how he can shoulder the team to win games.
I guess I am wrong or I expected too much from him.
Although, I have seen him trying in the last quarter of the game. Cut the lead from 20 to 5 while the Suns cannot find who will contribute in their offensive end. KD is expected to be back next month so this will be a long season for the Nets to try and win games as much as they can and keep their position in the 5th place of the Eastern Conference.
They have a game later against the Jazz, still a road game. Kyrie should stop his habit of not playing in back-to-back games. Nets badly need him.

Kyrie is not as good as Durant, there's a big difference because when Durant was the only one playing when Kyrie was out, they already started winning games and they get better when Kyrie return. Now, it's going to be a big puzzle on how they'll solve their problem, they are tanking and I don't think this will stop anytime soon, unless Durant will be able to return.

Yeah, it's a different Kyrie that we have been seeing lately, I mean he used to take over games, but now? not sure, maybe it was his team mates. They can't go like this without Durant, they have to find ways to win games with him.

And in their next game, it's against another tough team in Jazz and road games. So if suddenly he is absent again (hopefully we will know if before hand, so that it won't be a trap again). And if Kyrie can't win games with the Nets, then obviously, it's KD's team and he is the leader and alpha and Kyrie is just another player in the roster, just saying.

Bad news is we can't really know if Kyrie will play or not because most of the time, he is just listed as probable/questionable and that gives a lot of a hard time for most of the bettors because of his unpredictability. In fact, even if he's healthy and playing, that gives us no guarantees that he will lift the team as he's like a switch that toggles on and off.
1344  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: January 21, 2023, 04:18:15 PM
He still got a shot and I believe that he can still reign once more before hanging his gloves, which I also do think that's what he wanted to do too.

Adding to that, his plans were just focused on a title match. He didn't consider fighting again at the bottom.

He truly knows that fighting again at the bottom or a non-title fight doesn't make sense and it's good to just hang his gloves instead.

Both of his plans are title matches;

- returning to 115 lbs and facing the champion
- returning to 118 lbs if Inoue will move up and fight for the vacant title

Since he still sits at top of the rankings even after losing to Inoue, he is eligible for both.

Fighting for the title do have more money in stake, so I'm pretty sure him and his wife knows the value so why bother to take the risk if the income is not that much, and with the kind of opportunity he still have since he still in the top position that eligibility to challenge the champion is a good option.

Now that Inoue decided to move up, the vacant belt is now free for the qualified rank fighters, he will take his chance and make some decent amount of money while having that good chance to own the belt.

Furthermore, he is not that behind as well in the rankings at 118 lbs and considering that he was a former reigning champion, he still have every right to call and fight the champions thus he knew that he will still attract audiences around the world and for that, organizers will always agree with him. Just like now, he is getting favored to participate one of Inoue's vacated belts.
1345  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue - WBC and WBO 122 lbs bout - May on: January 21, 2023, 03:31:00 PM
so this will be the New territory for Naoya Inoue ?  now from 118 He'll climb up to 122 to create a name in higher weight , can't wait to see His domination in this new division  .

Looking for Odd to put my bet as i did not expect Him climbing this soon but taking chance to win here is my take  now  Grin

This might sound a little bit off but if we do look into that recent fight against butler then it did really go to distance and i would assume out that Fulton would might be still using up on the same
stance or approach once he would fight Inoue inside the ring.
this is something to prove inside the ring in fight day mate , while Fulton has a good stuff also yet Inoue has been the one who will take this fight  Cheesy

Yes, a new territory but I think he will not struggle that much because a 4 pound difference is not that big and as Inoue goes older, his weight might be more suitable at 122 pounds. Although, he needs to prove this and I didn't really expect that Arum will agree to go directly agaisnt the champion, but it will all be worth it.
1346  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Tank Davis vs. Ryan Garcia betting and discussion (May, 2023) on: January 21, 2023, 02:49:28 PM

The winner of this fight will dictate the possible rematch and for sure the cash rewards will be more different..
If there is a clause on the contract that one of them can instigate a rematch then we'll have a rematch but still depends on the outcome of the fight, on this fight between these two hard punchers I don't think the fight will end in a decision, one of them will get knocked out but even if there's a knock out in a fight its still possible to have a rematch if the promoters feel that the fans want a rematch, they will see the profitability of the rematch.

Yes, even if there's a rematch clause, promoters and organizers will still depend on the outcome of the first bout but this time, it will be more complex. And considering that they are both a knockout artist, there might be a rematch that will be pursued by the losing camp even if the outcome was a KO or TKO as long as it was a close fight.
1347  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 20, 2023, 02:35:57 PM
Let's move forward, we have plenty of games tomorrow to choose from.
I know betting early is not a good idea, but I will make an exception this time as I have an early errands tomorrow.

Jazz -6.5 - They have the momentum now, Nets are not the same team without Durant, so they are not different to a team they dominated which was the Clippers that visited them without Leonard and PG.

GS Warriors ML - I will be a little ambitious here, although this team will be playing a back to back game but I understand that they are desperate to win on the road. it's going to be the Size of the Warriors that will give them a win if they will be able to have a great shooting.

LA Lakers +7 - I think Memphis are just overrated, I won't be surprise if the Lakers will even win at home.

I like the Jazz pick as personally I don't trust the Nets too to win on another road game. Also, I'm thinking of having a parlay bet on the Lakers + Warriors, the odds combine is 11.56 in my sportsbook, that sure is very attractive, so I'll put a little spare amount on that.

I thought I will see an Inoue vs Casimero fight, but this one is way better as he is fighting a real champion. Inoue is very dominant in the bantamweight division, but we haven't seen him fight in this new division, so we might see a different result.

Great start for the year, he will have plenty of time to prepare and maybe he will have more fights this year.

I will still hope for him to fight Casimero this year, so they'll be settled and won't throw bad words at each other.
1350  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: January 20, 2023, 12:18:03 PM
Aside from that, just let Donaire do what he wants. As I mentioned, he might didn't see yet his limitation due to the fact that he fought an unstoppable monster. We can see if he was still that fierce once he faced another boxer aside from Inoue.
I agree.

Let him do what makes him happy and he's a true boxer because his passion for the sport is never gone despite his most recent loss against the monster for the rematch that he has asked for.

Both camps are happy, Naoya will have a bout on May and then Donaire just need to wait a bit for the official fight.

No one can stop him as long as there are people who still want to watch him. He is right, Inoue is just exceptional, he cannot beat him but he was able to give him a tough fight on their first meeting. Maybe now that Inoue is out on his division, Donaire surely thinks that his chance is very high of becoming a champion again.

Warriors visiting the Boston tomorrow, I guess I'll go with the stats, Boston -6.5 is going to be my bet.

I might follow you on this one because Warriors spread are too attractive, I'm thinking maybe it's just a trap, so this one should be the right call. Well, not saying Celtics is guaranteed to cover that spread because to be honest, it's too high, so I can understand why most of us will choose the Warriors spread + the ML.
1352  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: January 19, 2023, 01:54:18 PM

Fajardo? As long as he is dominant, they will not trade him. Under the table? There is a high chance that it is happening, but we don't have any evidences and the only thing that we have is theories.
Exactly, Fajardo is 33 years old, and I think that is still young. Most of the players that are traded are not in the center position, Look at Hugnatan and Reavis, they are already 40 years old or over, but they are still playing with the team, and we all know that Fajardo is better then them.

He is also injury prone now but at least when he comes back he can still deliver the numbers he used to deliver. Fajardo will definitely stay, they won championships with him, SMB will not throw away their precious player. They can trade CJ and keep Fajardo as whoever gets JMF will surely be a very good team, what if Ginebra will get JMF? How can you beat that team?

A triple tower who all have the offensive capability and will be guided by Scottie and Tenyente or Pringles, I can say that Gin kings can compete and represent the country to an international league if they will acquire JMF. But, that chance is slim even these two teams are sister teams they have pride to compete and they are always doing it in every season PBA offer.

They are always there to compete and to prove that they deserve to win a title.

It's different in the international league because mostly the bigs know how to shoot from the outside, and so far Fajardo has no good range outside. Also, if we noticed in international games, Fajardo is not fully used, because their opponents love to run and they cannot match the speed if they keep Fajardo with heavy minutes.
1353  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 19, 2023, 01:10:05 PM
This time, Trae Young didn't take many shots, but he did 12 assists and organized the team well. Everyone in the team scored, there was a very balanced distribution. Dejounte Murray scored 30 points with 67%. In Dallas, the effort of Doncic, Dinwiddie and Wood wasn't enough. Dallas lost 3 times in a row, their decline continues. Something is wrong with the team. Jason Kidd must resolve this situation. They don't get enough contributions from the bench either. Atlanta won 4 times in a row and came close to the play-off spot again. For them things are going well for now.

Or probably Jason Kidd is part of the problem? it seems that he can't bring the team into chemistry, just like in this game, they have a good chance to win although I have the underdog Atlanta to beat them.

And that has been the story of the Dallas, the bench is not helping, or at least if they, it's always feel short of expectations.

There is always some missing pieces and it's hard to pinpoint whether it was the coaching of the players themselves.

Dallas IMO is a better team with him. In terms of a roster, I think they already have a good one but most are young and do not have a good experience in the playoffs. Luka is also young, maybe Luka will only win a championship if he will follow the style of Lebron to create a super team. Right now, Dallas is not a superteam, they have the best player Luka but he is not surrounded with a consistent players.

A good example of a team that has good role players are the Nuggets, their best player is Jokic but he can rely on his teammates to help him win.
1354  Economy / Economics / Re: Does a side job/business improve your finanical stability ? on: January 18, 2023, 09:59:56 PM

To make a living, we must work. In uncertain days like now facing the global economic downturn, a stable job with high income becomes a scarcity. A side job or business seems like more necessary than ever, which can minimize the risks of losing your current job, ending up pennyless. However, a side job/business also takes time and efforts and can never be attained whenever we need it. What did you do or will you do in order to ensure your finanical stability despite all unfavorable circumstances ?
Yes it is. Side jobs take also most of our time and efforts but the result would also be satisfying as you can be more financially stable and earn multi sources of income. However, if you only focus on your own job because you think that’s taking the most of your time, then think of it. No one would get financial stability and financial freedom if you remain an employee for the rest of your life. You need to venture on something new and go out from your comfort zone. That way, you will be surprised that the best jobs are not what you have right now, that’s why you have to grab the best of the best.
1355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What could have Satoshi faced if he made himself known from the beginning on: January 18, 2023, 09:45:30 PM
I must say that I'm now a Bitcoin addict and an ardent fan/supporter of Satoshi Nakamoto and the good initiative Bitcoin technology has brought to the world. But there are these questions that have been ringing in my head day and night as I continue to be curious about this man/men that brought this revolution to the financial space.

I would like people to furnish me with their views even though I personally believe that he would have been haunted by the world governments at the initial stage.

What could have been his fate if he made himself known from the beginning? And later after Bitcoin is recognized?
He might be a target of all scammers all over the world, especially now that they are aware that bitcoin is very valuable and that Satoshi must have the highest amount of bitcoin hodlings. However, with government opposition even at the present, Satoshi may also face a lot of accusations as he could also be a target of authorities. Although the spotlight is on him, but let’s say not all people would be happy for him.

Great thread. It sums up many of the advises I have learnt here over the last couple of months into a concise write up.

When it comes to avoiding the fud, I would suggest that we do not simply ignore anything about bitcoin which does not align with our understanding of it. Stay open minded to opinions against it and do your research before ruling it out as baseless.

- Jay -
I agree to that. OP has made a great list that will help not only newbies but all the members in the forum especially those who keep repeating the same mistakes again. There can be no fears and losses in bitcoin if we just stick to the basics, never invest what you can afford to lose and always avoid the FUDs. The market may be uncertain most of the time but if we know how to deal with it, we will likely to benefit in the future. Just stay patient and always manage to learn every single day by having DYOR.
1357  Economy / Economics / Re: Your way of living the wage what you need to live normal life on: January 18, 2023, 08:59:10 PM
Meanwhile in Philippines, the minimum wage runs around almost $10 or maybe less and those who sit in the government think this is enough considering the price inflation. Not to mention there are still people who get paid lower than the minimum wage. Imagine how these people find ways to earn money just to serve food at their family's table. The government is mostly in favor of companies and investors since they are scared that this might cause them to back out and will leave lesser job opportunities.
That happens because the government alone have less sympathy on the minimum wage earners and so there is always low increase for minimum wage earners not considering that they have heavier load of works compared to the ones sitting in the government. That is why it’s hard to eradicate poverty in the Philippines because even the government alone cannot compensate well their workers especially in private establishments as they favor more on the owners than on the workers.
1358  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: betting against the Public, is this strategy working? on: January 18, 2023, 08:40:13 PM
Betting against the majority? Gauge what you are trying to do. If it is just pride with the idea of not following the majority, then that would be a bad thing. Stick with the objective which is to win even if it would mean you have to follow the majority in some instances. So I think it does depend on the situation; if you are having no assurance of what path or bet to take, then you may follow the majority but if you have your own stand backed with your own reason, then go for it. Gambling is complicated; not because majority bet on first team you'd be required to do also. Always have time to think as much as possible whether following them would yield to a better outcome than following your own intuition.
There’s no wrong actually if you bet by following the majority especially if you have the same analysis with them, so you have to go along with them. However, if you think that betting against the public will be more profitable because there are better odds and you see higher chances of winning, then why not? After all, we don’t gamble to follow the norms, but definitely to entertain us and that will be a bonus already if we get lucky and won some bets.
1359  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Giving bitcoin awareness for easy adoption in my locality on: January 18, 2023, 08:21:24 PM
That's really great to see people working to spread the usage and the need of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. People are participating with good interest which is the best part. Already there were people spreading the word about bitcoin and one more gets added to the list. Doing needful thing without expecting anything is really great. Maybe what is being shared and taught will surely make these people have life changing experience in the coming years.
If people will always work hand in hand to spread on the awareness of bitcoin, well there may be easy adoption in the long run, but of course with the government supporting it. I just hope those learnings about bitcoin will get even spread more if they continue to share it to other customers too, thus rapidly increasing the people’s awareness and the growth of users of bitcoin. Great job.

This are things a sane person won't try at all... I keep saying it
What's the point of getting registered on a decentralized platform just to end up giving away your earnings on a centralized exchange, knowing too well the unbearable disadvantages? C'monnnn, this is been said over time.
Password managers ain't even an option to choose for something as important as your seed phrase -- I won't even save my forum account info on it, talk more of the keys to your FREEDOM? NO!!

Sandra 🧑‍🦰
Centralized password managers can never be reliable at all since they can be a source of losing our privacy by allowing them to access to our own funds and steal them in the process. Seed phrase should always be kept to yourself and not to any other group or entity, otherwise you are giving them the freedom to control you and your funds, rather than having the freedom all by yourself. That is why decentralized wallets are made, to help us more responsible with our own coins and our hard-earned funds.
