1321  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Medical student wins lottery 5 times after embezzling graduation funds on: January 30, 2023, 09:41:36 PM
he has been heavily addicted to gambling because he should only chase victory and leave gambling.
She is definitely addicted to gambling, I don't think someone that's not addicted to gambling will gamble with the money that's not his/her own, I don't think their is any assurance that you are going to win when gambling, when gambling the chances of winning and losing is just 50/50, so why will you use the money that's not your own to do what you are not assured of win. Definitely she have being doing it before and probably she have been winning but she is not lucky this time around. She have to be forced to pay back the money so that she can learn her lesson.
Maybe you have a point too. She might be doing this even before but it’s only now that she has been caught because of severe gambling addiction. My worries is on her classmates because now that their funds are lost, then how they will cope up with their upcoming graduation? I just hope the parents of this student involved in gambling will also make an action on how to resolve the problem because whatever their daughter has done, it will always affect them.
1322  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Nonito Donaire vs Jason Moloney on: January 28, 2023, 06:53:04 PM
Donaire is looking for one last big fight and he wants to end his career with another title, every boxer whose career is in the twilight will like to have that graceful exit, I just hope he'll get it this time and finally retire, a title on his belt will vanish that nightmare loss
to Inoue, because the boxing history book and people always remember your last fight.
I hope Donaire will finally consider retirement if he wins the fight and the title, that's the best time to retire.
That may be the best choice he will make after the fight. Win or lose. Then just do exhibition games if he thinks he still miss boxing just like what other old boxers are doing now. He did prove himself and if only he is in his prime, he may have been the one who defeated Inoue and blemished that perfect record of him.
It's difficult to predict where this fight will go but I am thinking Donaire's heart to claim the title back is bigger than Moloney. He will definitely box like it's his last dance and perhaps the retirement is also being suggested to him by his team.

That's the easiest path to go after retirement, just like Manny Pacquiao, he had a successful exhibition fight and he made money on that. Donaire is not convinced his career is over because Inoue has been beating young and old fighters, so he wants to try on this young fighter that does not have the quality of Inoue, which means he can take the punches and he can KO Jason Moloney if the latter makes a mistake.

It will be early for Donaire to retire and it is also not too late for him to prove himself more on the ring. There are still many chances for him to beat more strong boxers if he will be more determined and make his previous losses as his motivation.
The previous fights was tough for him but we know that he is still capable of doing more. I hope he will never lose this chance to win and prove that he will still be a strong Filipino boxer.

I guess he can do a couple more if it turns out that he can defeat Moloney in this one but I think he won't fight anyone unless it's another title fight where he can have another belt in his possession, I doubt that he will have a some title defense because that would be a waste of time on his side because his clock is ticking as he knows that he can't do some clean-up in the division anymore unlike when he was still young.
1323  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Errol Spence vs Keith Thurman on: January 28, 2023, 04:33:12 PM
^^^ Everything else is OK. But please don't call this as the mandatory title defense. WBC has created a bad precedent here, which will definitely come back to bite them later. I am sure that we will enjoy the clash between Errol Spence and Keith Thurman. But what we don't need is this additional burden of title defense, which is completely unfair to the other athletes in 147lb and 154lb divisions. Anyway, now Caleb Plant has joined the party, after the rant against Spence from Timothy Bradley Jr. Take a look at this tweet:

https://twitter.com/SweetHandsPlant/status/1617574782148685826

I agree, I wouldn't call this mandatory defense as there are no belts on the line and then the fight is going at 154 lbs wherein the order was to fight at 147 lbs. Nevertheless, it seems that this fight is a go already, Thurman could have agreed.

I was not aware of the rant though, but I'm not surprise by the reaction of boxing analyst and even boxers are really this fight is sort of a joke and it's bad that the organizations has allowed this kind of set up.

Spence will be fighting not using his status as champion, it's more like an exhibition fight because winners will get nothing, aside from the money base on their agreement. However, I believe this is good than not seeing them fight, Spence does not want Crawford, so at least Spence were able to fight a decent challenger which is Thurman. To be honest, despite Spence is the favorite, I still see Thurman going on top here.

Yeah, I go with that opinion better than not seeing him fighting a decent challenger, even it's more on the money side and there's
no belt that they will going to stake.

The moment they meet inside the ring is far better than not seeing any fight like this, Thurman will take pride and with his intention
to bring his name up again, he may push his limit to try winning this fight.

Let see if how things will proceed between these two decent fighters, an old champ against the current champ!

And we shouldn't forget as well that this fight is somehow quite personal for Spence because of what happened back in the day when Thurman neglected Spence to have his chance to fight for the belt that Thurman held that time. This maybe the biggest reason why this fight has been brought up to 154 lbs. because Spence doesn't want the latter to have a shot at his belt to get the situation even.
1324  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 28, 2023, 03:57:35 PM
There's always been talks and intrigue about these 2 teams since the Mavs made an upset and knocked the Suns out in the playoffs in 2021. It seems like some Phoenix fans and maybe even Booker himself hasn't moved on yet.

That's why when these two teams meet again early in the season and the Suns won it after a big comeback, the celebration is like they truly got revenge on the Mavericks lol. They should really be bitter in their last year's playoffs exit as just imagined having the best record in the NBA and up by 2 wins in the playoffs against the Mavericks but still choking and losing it. And the worst, they allow the Mavericks to give them as much as 46 points behind, a literal choke.

I hope though that they will meet again in this year's playoffs to continue their rivalry, with no injuries and in a healthy lineup.
But this lost though, I mean no Luka but still the Dallas were able to escape and get that needed win against their rival. So this could be another huge lost for them mentally and it's worst for them.
I wonder what Luka is saying at the back when he saw that his team won against the Suns without him.

Well, the Suns don't have Booker as well. Since he got injured, the Suns played not that good. Well, they got a 4 game winning streak before that lost and that shows a sign of adjustments, but still, many are expecting that the Suns will be the same team as they are 2 years ago when they are at the top of the standings. Now they are 25-25 and currently 9th in the league. Nowhere near the expectation of their fans and other people who have high expectations to them.

Will they enter the playoffs? Yes for sure. The question now is, where they will land. The worst thing that can happen to them is if they will end up at the play-in tournament.

I really doubt their presence if they can have an appearance in the playoffs because they won't get that far because they are heavily relying on Devin Booker alone, point god can't lift the team anymore if he can't give his power pass to someone who is reliable to shoot anymore. Moreover, the Jazz, Thunder, Blazers and Lakers might force their way too. So if CP3 and Booker will get injured again in the precious times then it's a no go for them for sure.
1325  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: January 28, 2023, 03:08:30 PM
But on the other hand, if there is a greater insertion of teams, I believe that this will reduce the quality of the world cup, I am not discrediting the teams, but I do not know, this could reduce the level and quality of the world cup.

The world cup only happens every 4 years, and I have no doubt, this is one of the most anticipated events for many people.

When more teams are added to the World Cup, the quality of the World Cup may be affected. Football's biggest event, held every four years, has different views from around the world. Therefore, FIFA will not take any decision that brings FIFA into disrepute. They have already decided to include 48 countries from next season. I think it's a good decision because a lot of teams, especially multiple champions ‍some times can't play there, so it's definitely a good decision. But more than 48 will do more harm than good.
Yes, I also believe that the number of participants can affect the quality of the world cup, not to the detriment of other teams, but unfortunately if a country has not participated in previous world cups, it means that it has neither the capacity nor the quality to be a eligible team to participate in the world cup.

I imagine that the main reason the world cup is such a rare and prestigious event is because it takes place every 4 years.
This World Cup has been the best in history. All football fans will remember this World Cup. But the next World Cup will be even more spectacular, as several countries will host it. Everything is updated as the day progresses. I hope people will see new surprises in the next World Cup.

It is already expected the next World Cup series which is in 2026 will be remarkable and more sensational especially after what happened recently in the FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022 where almost everything was handled very well by the country that hosted the said event, so organized and yes, spectacular as you said.

Regarding the next World Cup that will be hosted by three countries, here are the list of the stadiums of each respective country that will be used for the said event. Just a disclaimer, this list is not yet official and still bound for some changes. FIFA announced that they will announce the final list of the host cities and schedules of its games.

Quote

Wow. Another lost. Not a funny loss but I am laughing, I might be crazy.  Cheesy

Had the right prediction on who will win but the spread was not covered. Lacking 1 more point for both the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The sad part about the Miami bet is I think that the lowest spread @1.57 only and the next is ML which is not that rewarding for a win.
My Bucks bet though, it's my fault for being greedy. That -10.5 if I remember it right is the max on spreads option.

Chasing my losses for the Golden State Warriors -3.5. Let's go Warriors!

Damn!

Those are the toughest kind of losses to swallow, especially when you have to lose two bets to such margin in just one night... I might have fooled myself by hoping for a very low scoring game between Toronto Raptors and Warriors, 125 points combined in just the first half of the game alone, it's either a lower scoring 2nd half or I'd be handed my L's by the bookies tonight  Angry

It seems that the bookies had a beautiful day because I bet there are a lot more bettors out there who also put some of their funds on the stated teams. It was quite a game and yes, those scores are really tough to swallow because you could've won that bet if it's not because of the .5 handicap left to cover.

Anyway, anyone interested about the Lakers vs Celtics match-up tomorrow? The Celtics has been listed as a -7.5 favorite over the Lakers, this will be a nice game to watch and bet live as AD is also back on the floor. Also, is it possible that LeBron will pass Kareem's scoring title tomorrow, or not?
1327  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: January 27, 2023, 12:40:11 PM
We already know Bob Arum and I'm quite sure that there will be a rematch clause in this fight because even if they are just the challenger, it's still risky on their side because the reputation and value will be heavily affected. Inoue might remain as the #1 contender but a loss is a loss and he will need to prove his name again as it's also the only way towards the top.
Let's say there is no clause about the rematch. It will still depend on the champs camp to decide if it should happen.
I mean, what if Stephen Fulton wins and he felt like there's a chance for Inoue to defeat him on the next one? They would rather let him work his way up by defeating some of the higher contenders who are also asking for a chance at a title match than a rematch so they could prepare more and learn his movements while he is trying to go back up.
I do believe that even if Inoue loses this fight it will mark a great surprise to the champion that will affect the decision for a rematch. They might say no and protect the title, making a reason of "get in line, you are already defeated".
If Fulton is thinking of the money the he can make on a rematch, I think he will give Inoue a chance to make it happen. Inoue will definitely give him some problem, but of course, although Inoue is the heavy favorite, we still cannot guarantee if he will win this fight. Let's just wait for the outcome and let the promoters do their job as I'm sure they'll try to make more money, so rematch is definitely possible.
1328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: January 27, 2023, 11:37:38 AM
Great opportunity for TNT bettors.

They are down 13 points at the half, but you know this team is capable of making a huge comeback.
The ML now is 3.00 and the spread is +5.5, I guess this is worth taking IMO, I should take this and the moneyline.

Betting on over 94.5 for TNT and and over 194.5 total score. (INC OT)

Good decision, suddenly it is now a close game. That over for totals and TNT will easily hit. The ML and the spread, of course there's still a good chance as TNT is now the favorites per live betting. This is the type of opportunity we can find if we are into live betting, but you need to focus and give your time to find this one. yeah, good luck mate.

1331  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 26, 2023, 01:56:48 PM
The return of Brandon Ingram is not enough to end the Pelicans' losing streak. Ingram seems lost and is still to find his rhythm after his long injury. The Pelicans tried to control the game but things changed when the Timberwolves gained momentum in the 3rd quarter and maintained it until the end. Another huge number came from Anthony Edwards with 37 points.

This is the 3rd straight 30+ points by Edwards. Hopefully, he can bring the same momentum when Ja Morant and the Grizzlies visit Minnesota in their next game. Also today, the Grizzlies lost a wild game against GSW. That's the 4th straight loss suffered by the Grizzlies yet they are still looking strong at top 2 in the west.

He did try though specially in the last 2 minutes of the game, but the Timberwolves have every answer on Ingram's score. Of course, it's really hard to come back and make an impact immediately.

And in the 3rd quarter, they really struggled a bit and so it's hard to make a come back when the other team is hitting their shots as well.

Lost my bet here, as I thought that the Pelicans will win big in their homecourt with Ingram.

He probably needs more time before he can get back to his usual game, but the most important now is that he is already healthy and he will be able to help his team to reach the playoffs as he did last season. Despite the losing streak, the good news is that they are still in the number 4 spot, so if they will star wining, then probably their ranking will improve s well, and it will guarantee them a playoff spot.

Although he scored double digits, but 4-18 shooting is very bad, has not made a shot on the 6 attempts in the 3 point area. Overall, he had a bad game but we can understand since he just returned from a long layoff due to injury. Maybe Zion would also come back soon, and this team will be healthy again, it's okay if they'll keep losing as they are still in the safe standing.
1332  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 26, 2023, 01:16:59 PM
I almost hit my 6 teams parlay last night, I just lost on the 76ers game because I took the spread. They could have covered that already as they were leading with a decent margin, but I'm just unfortunate that they allow the Nets to come back a bit, just enough to cover the handicap.
Sorry to hear that mate, they are really in control of the game and taking double digits lead, but the Nets won't simply go away. Ben Simmons hit some of those shots, his right hook and instrumental in the comeback.

If I'm not mistaken, the spread is like -6.5 right?

I lost my bet because I took Sacramento, but they are really off in this game at their homecourt. As if they don't want to take this win because there are a lot of turnovers. There are stretch wherein Sabonis will have like 3 TO in succession. Very bad game for them at home.

Based on the pregame spread, that was -6.5. 76ers led as many as 16 points in that game, I thought the spread will be covered easy, but with the unpredictability of the game, things like this could happen, and it's very costly because it's only one game that will destroy your winning parlay bet.
1333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin gaining this much fame despite it's restrictions? on: January 25, 2023, 09:59:23 PM
Though I'm new in the cryptocurrency space,I have been hearing so much about crypto ( Bitcoin precisely) lately even before I got registered on the forum and I had to ask this very question because in three days I've heard and seen people talk and discuss about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general and it prompted my question wanting to know why it has been talked about this much and gaining more acceptance in my local community despite it's restrictions in my country and is it also gaining this much fame in your environment?
Maybe because a lot of people are seeing it as a get-rich-quick scheme because of the fuss everywhere that bitcoin is the best way to generate huge profits. While for me it’s also true because you can really make the best of profits out from bitcoin but it can never be gained quickly as everyone is fussing around. And since it has the latest technology and we are at a digital world, then digital currencies will become of high demand these days.
1334  Economy / Economics / Re: How is the cost of living in your country? on: January 25, 2023, 09:44:45 PM
Cost of living here in the Philippines is pretty cheap compared to other countries, but the salary and wages isn't on par with the price of goods. I live alone, have two jobs and live near the city. What I earn is more than enough for me and some other hobbies that I have. Total budget every month never exceeds $600, and that includes rent, bills, food, and gas for my car. However, the quality of the food I eat is a little compromised; I seldom have any greens on my food because of how crazy expensive they are here. Meat is somewhat cheap, and that is what's usually on the menu. Any other comforts in life, I can afford but choose not to because I'm trying to save and invest in order to retire early.
That’s the sad reality that wages aren’t even increasing so it can somehow cope up with the increasing prices of basic commodities, the reason why mostly low waged workers are put into even more worst situation and can’t even imagine how they put food table on the table considering everything is already high priced. Maybe this is now the best time to go out from our comfort zone and explore other jobs outside our main job. At least, we will have more sources of income that will enable us to still live a good life.
1335  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Too accessible of online casino grows addiction faster? on: January 25, 2023, 08:59:31 PM
I have a discussion with a close relative about online gambling and he said something that about how he hate gambling online because it's too addictive, he claimed real life casinos are better and less addictive because he will have to drive down to Las Vegas to gamble or drive down to a local casino and this still takes some physical effort and it discourages many people from frequenting gambling.

He said with online gambling it's available on through mobile phones and you can play at any time, this means no shortage of gambling around the clock and no shortage of losing money as well, you can easily pull out your phone and gamble with any free time, a bit compulsive and too accessible.

What do you think about this claim? Is he right or wrong?

He can be right or wrong depending on how a gambler manage himself when gambling. If he gambles most of the time maybe because he has no permanent job to look after, that will trigger addiction because of chasing previous losses and chasing for more profits. However, if he gambles only at his spare time just to have fun and become entertained, he will most likely not develop addiction because he only gamble occasionally.
1336  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's a good idea to just register on casino on: January 25, 2023, 08:38:17 PM
There is this thing about shopping and airlines that when you check and forget, they send you bonus or discount for your possible shopping/trip. Same holds true for casinos, if you just register and leave they will send you some bonus to get you started playing.
Ohh yeah, This is some kind of a clever trick to utilize the bonuses of the casino. Haven't think of this kind of trick before but I guess it is logically possible since I also receive emails on casinos that I usually don't play. I just keep receiving emails from them about giving me a bonus to play again and welcome back bonus. Using a separate email for this kind of trick is mandatory for it to be sorted (unless you want spams) and lessen the risk of getting stolen or hacked along with other important accounts,.
Obviously, this is only not happening to casinos but even in those online stores as well that you have been buying your previous stuffs. They will send you bonuses and discounts so you will be interested again to buy at their store. Just like in casinos, once they see your account is inactive, they will try to reach out to you again by sending bonuses and discounts. That’s why if you don’t want to be annoyed with their consistent emails, it’s better to create a separate email address that’s only good for gambling.
1337  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: i am a housewife want to invest in bitcoin on: January 25, 2023, 07:59:26 PM

You should inform your husband and don't ignore him in this case, when it comes to investment both of you should put your heads together,so that he will not feel irrelevant if he discovers by himself,he might also support you with some funds to increase you investment. You will need to noncustodial wallet to keep your investment safe

I don't look down on women or homemakers, but it would be better if she informed her husband, and both of them could invest in bitcoin together. For these forms of venture capital, I think men will grasp it faster and better than women, and to avoid encountering unnecessary fraud incidents, both should learn carefully and invest together would be better.

OP, and if in case, you want to stay private and don't want to share for some reason. You should be very careful and should ask anything here before deciding to invest.
Well, husband and wife should always be transparent to each other that’s why if you plan to enter into this volatile investment, have your husband aware about it so he can also share his own perspective about investing into bitcoin. Also, who knows he also has plan to invest in bitcoin and you can support each other and create a good capital needed to invest in bitcoin. But always remember to only invest what you can afford to lose knowing bitcoin investment has also its own risk.
1338  Economy / Economics / Re: After Budgeting, How Do I Deal With Unexcepted Expenses? on: January 25, 2023, 07:45:33 PM
I as a man with a wife and two daughters, can indeed relate to what OP is talking about, like for example, I wrote my resolution for this year 2023 which also include things I plan to achieve this year and when I plan to begin each, this is a plan I draw based on how much I earn over all monthly, but even up until now, I discovered i have not started working towards achieving what I have written in my resolution, and January is almost coming to an end.
miscellaneous and unexpected expenses have not allowed me focus on my goals for the year, this is indeed very frustrating, and at times, it makes me want to just throw the resolution away as i see no need for it.
This is a topic that is indeed worthy of discussion and i really wish there was a long lasting solution to this problem.
You know it’s hard to achieve your resolution when you are not even starting to do it. Although unexpected expenses will always be unexpected, that’s why you have to prepare for it like having your own emergency funds that will cover all of your sudden expenses that are out of your budget. That way, you’ll have less trouble achieving your resolution if you think that is really valuable for you.
1339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Its safe to say Bitcoin has recovered all it's losses since the FTX collapse? on: January 24, 2023, 09:51:31 PM
I never expected the fast recovery that's why I said the world is finally understanding why Bitcoin is a necessity in every one's life, am I saying too much? Or you think I am right?

Quite an overly-optimistic take in my book. People won't suddenly realize that Bitcoin is a necessity, just right after one of the biggest exchanges committed fraud. People still think that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are a scam/fad, and I don't see that changing any time soon.
I guess even without the FTX event, people are still in doubt about bitcoin and prefer to think that it’s more of a scam than legit. So how much more when the FTX scandal suddenly arise, a lot of people have nailed it that it’s right that they never trust bitcoin at all. So I’m also not saying bitcoin has recovered eventually, it’s price alone is still in a dump position.

Everyone has their own vision of how to advise other people when it comes to Bitcoin, and I can agree in principle that one of the good tips is "not to invest more than you can afford to lose", but the problem can arise in that many cannot properly estimate that amount and then find themselves in a problem. Ignorance and greed are often much stronger than common sense, especially at a time when we have a big bull run and when most are under the influence of FOMO (fear of missing out).

I have long taken the position that I will not advise anyone on such sensitive matters if I do not assess that this person is not aware of all the risks arising from such investments. In addition, everyone should focus more on promoting Bitcoin as a currency, and not just as a means to make a profit.
Do not invest what you can’t afford to lose, will always be the most basic rule in any forms of investing. However, with bitcoin which involves high risk because of high volatility, I would not advise people to invest but most likely to learn and become knowledgeable about bitcoin. That way, if they have already understood completely about bitcoin, then it’s already their decision if they still wish to invest or not. But the moment they’ll start investing, they should also be responsible enough to think that bitcoin will never give them quick profits as it could be a good long term investment instead.
