Saw 19 270X gpus came into stock on Amazon. Moments before I could pull the trigger, they disappeared.

Le Sigh.

I went ahead and just ordered 10 on the "2 to 4 weeks to ship" plan.  Now it's like waiting on Xmas.  I'm checking Amazon every day.

Vesper or 24Kilo, can you PM me your power cost estimates.  My partner and I are starting to think about what further expansion, and it would be nice to have something to compare the power usuage to.  We're closing in on you guys... watch out!

I'm going to make a comment regarding the issues we are having.  Do not take this as being directed at anyone or anything.  I just want to assuage the masses.

Yes we are forking.  Yes, orphans are going to happen and people on certain pools are going to lose coin.  But it is 100% factual that the network will sort itself out.  As I'm typing this we're all on the same page again.

This earlier in the week I was a bit skeptical about whether or not the TAG network is healthy.  After the numerous forks, and orphans I've had on Tagmining, I was getting a bit ticked off.  But each fork we had corrected itself over time and everyone ended up on the same page.  This "self-healing" of the network, through the mining pools' support, have proven to me that I can stop worrying about the forks as much as I thought I had to.  I slept well last night knowing the only issue I needed to worry about at yesterday was the fact that my main drainage line to the septic tank is clogged, or the septic tank is full, making it impossible to use water in my house right now.  So no worries about the crypto world, and I slept like a baby!

Mark and the TAG development team are working on the fix.  I'm sure it will put an end to a lot, if not all(I'm banking on all), of this.

So let's just ride all this out and laugh it off years from now when TAG rewards are used on every continent in the world  Grin.

(just my $0.02 on all this)

OK, miners...

So we are way ahead of the block explorer, as is Hashfaster.  I'm going to ride this one out and hope this auto-corrects like it has been.  Botpool is on the behind fork, and will probably carry that chain closer to ours as our difficulty increases.  If we were way behind the explorer, I would be worried.  I'm not going to say keep mining or don't mine.  Do what you believe is right at this time.  However, like always, I'm putting my eggs in tagmining's basket, as it has always come ahead in these matters, even if we get a string of orphans like crazy.  I know, I know... the orphans are killing us.  No need to remind me.

A very major fork is happening... nearly 50 blocks between... TAG and BOT on something like 29434 and Hash and IT on something like 29475... explorer at 29434... Mark needs to suspend TAG until they have this fixed... somebody is going to end up with a lot of orphans.

Yep, we took the brunt of the orphans on this one.  Working on a resync right now.

Not yet, still doing some calculations. I do have a pre-order for an Alpha-T Viper 5 MH/S (Which I put up for sale on their thread for 2 BTC.) I think I'll wait a week or two before I go buy a bunch of GPUs, I don't think that guy in Taiwan is going to run out (but he's more expensive than Amazon or Newegg, a little bit.)

Yes, that kind of gun show. It got moved from SM Megamall to SM Mall of Asia because it's a bigger venue. On the first day, usually the Chief of the PNP (Ph National Police) visits. Then the Chief of the AFP (Armed Forces of Ph) also takes a peek. They do it for publicity, because they get their guns at cost anyways. Our current President, President Noynoy Aquino owns at least 26 units, including a bunch of Glocks.

Its nice to go to a mall here, and see 3 computer stores right next to each other, then in the corner sandwiched between them is a gun store.

Sounds like my kind of place.  Our malls are full of annoying tweens and cinnabon shops.

The Devil Has Been Summoned!

Looks like Botpool is the source of the issues here.

Time to take out Botpool it seems.

~BCX~

Did someone say his name 3 times... quick, go back and check!

Honestly though, BCX... Botpool is just trying to push through the issues as much as the rest of us.  I think there was some incorrect speculation with regards to were the blame lies.  Now, if you want someone to blame for the crazy difficulty spikes... I'm pretty sure we all know where the blame lies there.

But I beg you to go easy with the legitimate community members and pools.  As much as we've been concerned about Botpool's hashrate, I think they are really trying to do the right thing with the pool.

-Fuse

EDIT- Also, I can, with almost 100% certainty, say that the forks and orphans are not a result of one pool's hashrate, or even the difficulty fluctuations like I had thought.  I will not go into specifics, as it is not my place to say, but I have discussed the issue with Mark, and he and his developers have identified the cause and are working towards the resolution.  I will put my rep on the line and say that I believe the next patch will fix our issues.

What multi-pools exist? Just wondering. I know of middlecoin, coinotron, multipool.us (is this the same as multipool.in?), hashco.ws, poolwarz, and whatever pool is on coinchoose.

These are the ones that jump on TAG or any other coin for that matter when it hits the top. Any kind of re-target longer than a few hours will totally disrupt the difficulty to the detriment of "legit" TAG miners. But that's something each coin has to consider until it is bigger.

I think that's it, Dabs.  Although I don't think Poolwarz is a true multipool in that it doesn't automine.  I have an account to check out the site design, but I never found that option.  I think they just offer all the pools in one easy to use location.  I could be wrong though.

Yeah, these are the bane of TAG, and other alts, existence.  I honestly wish there was a way to turn off their mining of TAG.  We'd stay under 150 difficulty easy if that was to happen.  I saw we were at about 210 today at one point.  And to think 2 weeks ago we saw 30's and 40's.  I wish I had my new cards then.

You get your rigs yet, Dabs?

I would say no, Dabs.  I'm pretty sure there will be at least two going up in the next couple of weeks.

So hungry. Must. Keep. Going.

NZ is in my top 3 places to live, with 'Stralia right alongside it. Heat, sunlight, awesome flora and fauna.

I'll also take tropics.

I'll find a way to make those GPU's run cool in the tropics..

Shipping container or cinder block bunker buried in the ground with geo-thermal cooling.  One step ahead of you in the planning process lol.

OMG, 24Kilo... really???  Work was so crazy today I didn't get a chance to eat lunch, and I never eat breakfast.  So seeing delicious fresh potatoes, and the thought of grass-fed beef and lamb.  All I'd need is some shallots, some butter, a little white wine, garlic, and salt and pepper to finish.  My mouth is watering so much right now.

Damn you, 24Kilo.

Now as far as "having to support Fuse".  I have always said you do what is right for you and what gets you the best return.  Whether that's monetary or karma/happiness, do what is right for you  Smiley.  I'm behind TAG because I really do think it has a very long sustainable future.  Mark will not allow it to fail.  I will run Tagmining until the wheels fall off.  I have discussed with my business partner how we are going to move forward with everything crypto.  So yesterday was the last of the cashout of our hoarded coins for another round of 270s.  These will be pointed at Tagmining 24/7 unless there's some crazy coin launch we want to try to earn some coin on first day... but I doubt that's going to happen often.  Besides the mining operation, we will be looking at expanding our pool operation, which is essentially my side of the partnership.  This will include EAC(if the dev stops threatening people), and whatever other coins we deem notable enough to invest server infrastructure in.  Speaking of my partner, he is currently trying to get out of the newbie area, and may or may not introduce himself in the thread.  He likes being the silent partner lol.

So long story short... just keep doing what you're doing.  I'll keep doing what I'm doing.  In the end we'll all meet up one day for a round of beer and great food somewhere on a nice tropical beach in Thailand or something  Grin

Fuse, it is with deep regret that I'm considering scaling back my involvement with this coin.  As you know better than anyone I've been involved with this coin since day 1.  I just checked the ANN thread and my first post was the 23rd of what is is now 2060 posts.  You also know that I've been your wingman here, I used to be the pool whale in the early days with about 1.4mh/s !

However this coin is slowly getting fucked up by some poor choices by Mark in not being flexible enough adapt the coin as it grows.  However that pales into insignificance compared to the effect that the Chinese pool is having on the coin.  They don't appear to care that they are repeatedly forking the coin, be it accidental or deliberate.  Coinwarz might tell me this is a highly profitable coin but when you deduct up to 1/3 orphans, it ain't.

My farm is currently up to 2.85mh/s.  I'm keeping the .85 pointed at TAG for old times sake but the other 2 is ATM moving over to earthcoin. Hey, 24kilo lives 15 minutes up the road from me.  He'll take EAC for his vegies!  If he sold lobster or steak, I'd be an EAC fanatic but even I need potatoes and turnips...

Feel free to point out this post to Mark.  If he's losing me, who else is disillusioned.

Couple of things that might ease your mind:

1. Mark is addressing the fork/orphan issue in an upcoming update.  His developers know the issue and are working towards a fix.  He has assured me that this will happen, and that they are certain that this is the fix.  The forking/orphan issue is not a direct result of the increase in hashrate or the fluctuating difficulty.  At this time, I will go on record as saying I am almost completely certain that he will fix this issue without changing the difficulty retarget.

2. Without discussing specific details, I will let you know that Mark is taking some very large business actions right now that are taking some time to resolve.  This was the reason for his trip to the US.  I will leave it at that.

3. Botpool won't be a problem in the next couple weeks.  No ETA, but there will be an announcement shortly Grin

4. I will go ahead and openly state that I am going to start an EAC pool.  24Kilo and I have talked about this briefly via PM, and I have confirmed that I am interested in starting one.  I just need a little time to square away the more pressing matters, and work, and my personal life(a little lol), before I get started on that.  So keep an eye out for the updates.

Fork again.  Tagmining, Hashfaster, and Botpool are on same block ahead of the explorer and Cryptopools.

Unless Tagmining falls behind the explorer, we will be operation with business as usual.  However, we have had another 6 orphans in a row for the last hour.

Mark, I seriously think this needs to be investigated by your developer staff.  I'm not sure if it would help, but perhaps you should really consider changing the difficulty re-target to every 10-20 blocks.  This would be a fast re-target time(every few hours) and would not only help even out the difficulty swings, but would help stabilize miners' payouts over time.  Yes it would mean that multipools would hammer TAG longer, but when they stop mining TAG we would have an equally long period of low difficulty.

Vesper had mentioned graphing out some comparisons on re-target times.  Not sure if he has preliminary data yet, but it would be worth investigating.

Is there any detailed data I could examine? Essentially I'm looking for: Block #, Difficulty level, # Shares to solve, Network hashrate.

I could plot out data showing how the coin would react with different block retargeting times (every 2 blocks, every 5, etc).

Also, curse you amazon.. still no cards.. all is good though, within an hour or so I'll have a restock of amazon giftcards at a discount. So I will be patient. I want 10 more cards, but I might have to suffer with only 5 in order to purchase other stuff not related to mining. lol

The round data is the closest to that info as I could give you without giving you access to the back end DB.  You could easily parse that with the Scraper Chrome Plugin.  That's how I calculate the jackpot each week.  The only variable I wouldn't have in that is the network hashrate, but you could use Dabs's equation to get that via the difficulty.

There was a site I saw the other day called giftcardgrandma, or something like that.  Basically a buy and sell site for gift cards.  They don't take BTC, but they have a ton of Amazon gift cards at a discount.  Worth a shot if you have the fiat.

Fuse.  Have you considered the non "x" version of the 270.  See my post earlier on this page.  It should be easier to get than it's "x" rated brother.  Tongue  I've had one running for 24 hours happily at 469-473 kh/s (expect for an hour or so when the bride unplugged it to using the power point to vacuum the room - I kid you not... Came home and wondered why the miner was down... Sheesh!

Actually, the non-x card is the next 6-9 that I will be purchasing.  I'm just trying to go Amazon to be able to use BTC via Gyft.  If I don't pull the trigger on those today, I'll be piece-mealing a bunch of 270Xs.

Fuck this for a joke... Pool is hashing at nearly 400Mh/s, busts it gut for over an hour and a half only to find another fucking orphan... (Block 28546).  Sorry Fuse, not having a go at you, it's not your fault, just venting my frustrations.  If Mark doesn't pull his finger out and fix this problem, I'm moving on and that's a big thing for me to say as I've been mining TAG since day 1 as you know.

Didn't post this on the main thread for obvious reasons.

John,

I agree wholeheartedly... with an orphan rate of nearly 33%... just check the 24hr stats - 61 blocks found - 43 valid - 18 orphans... TAG is no longer a profitable coin to mine for me... and as everyone here knows I am a big TAG fan and been mining since the beginning as well... Mark and the team must address this... it is vital for the long-term usefulness of the coin... and if Mark does not know how to remedy this problem... then the coin faces a real long-term confidence issue.

Fuse is in no way implicated in this fiasco... he has set a gold standard for pool admins... and he has to be extremely frustrated to see this happening after all the hard work, energy and real money he has invested in this pool.

I have moved on... I am mining EarthCoin... the other coin that I believe has real potential and usefulness... now and in the future... and it is reasonably profitable to mine... at least until it starts getting hit with multi-pools.

Fuse... you know I will support any pools that you choose to open to counter your losses from TAG.

EDIT - Another orphan - #28256 - that makes two in a row.

I am with you guys 100%.  In fact if you look back in the main thread, I was one of the first people, if not the first person, to bring up the unusually high orphan rates.  I understand that people are saying that it is correcting itself, but lets say TAG gets as big as LTC.  Take one of the top pools, GiveMeCoins, and they are hashing at about 8-9GH.  That's 8-9 times what Botpool is doing.  If we're seeing issues with one pool at 1GH and the rest equaling about 1GH, what is going to happen when the network hits 10GH?

I agree with your concerns and complaints.  It's very difficult for me to look at the block page and see it dotted with ORPHAN ORPHAN ORPHAN ORPHAN.  It's especially hard when you can't do anything about it because it's not a server issue.

I think if anything is to be done about it, the difficulty needs to retarget every X amount of blocks.  I say 10-20 blocks.  That's every few hours if things are running smooth.  I think it would help to even out the difficulty, and reduce the issues we're seeing.  I really do think the wild swings are what are causing a majority of the issues... as well as Botpool being such a blubbering whale in Asia.  But I'm working on that  Wink.

In the meantime, I think we should campaign for the difficulty to retarget less often.  Even if that doesn't solve the orphan issue, it will smooth out the round targets, and stabilize the rewards a little bit.

3 times now, I've put cards in my cart on amazon, and by the time I check the cart total, they're out of stock.  Damn it, people... let me buy all the GPUs!

I know, I know... one-click-buy.  I'm an old fashioned kind of guy.  I like tallying up big orders, and ordering everything all together.  I've still got about 40 empty amazon boxes in the living room waiting to be broken down for recycling from Xmas.  If I can reduce the number of boxes that come in, the wife will be happy lol.

@Fuse, I mentioned it in another thread, and I said, if I ever launch my own DabsCoin, I will prevent 51% attacks, by having 51% of the hash power myself. I'll probably set up a proper rig and just point it at your pool.

But for the security of the coin, long term, it makes sense to set up another pool, then we can both have 30% each of the network.

I am currently in a private discussion with someone regards to setting up another Asian pool.  If it doesn't pan out, I will probably open another pool, and create the asia.tagmining.com sub-pool to help spread the hash rate around.

I will keep people updated on what's going on.

-Fuse

P.S.  Dabs, I'll sell you 50,000,000 FuseCoin for 50,000,000 DabsCoin.  I like to diversify.

Easy, mate.  This is a classy thread. (insert top-hat wearing smiley face here)

I understand your frustration, but please keep tone reserved and calm.  Your best bet is to contact the pool OP, LeftToeCut.  Please remember that 24Kilo is not the OP, and was trying to help out LeftToeCut without access to the server itself.  If LeftToeCut doesn't respond in a timely manner(a day or two), take it a step further and submit a scam report on in the scam accusations sub-forum.  If he wants to clear things up, he can do so there or in PM.  However, remember that he was in a pretty bad car accident and he might not be up and around.  There might be some things going on in his personal life.  Or he could very well be an absentee OP, or even one that got in over his head with running a pool.

I'm not trying to defend him, but rather trying to keep the peace.

Sending some happy vibes your way, mate.

Quit resting on the job, Dabs!  You have a pool to guard lol.

No difference between any pool out there, really.  A pool is a pool is a pool.  Only real difference is location, payout system, fee and pool OP.  Otherwise it's all the same on the back end.  A miner connects, hashes, and gets paid Smiley
