What the fuck is this shit .. hours of mining and a shit load of fucking orphans! Or is is just hashfaster pool that's fucked or scamming ?

Calm, down... take a deep breath... and read the last 3 weeks of posts in this thread.

Hell, read my post right before yours.

People really need to start reading this thread before they cursing about orphans and claiming scams on pools because of them.

Err .. 3 weeks, really?

Hey - this crap has just put a couple of new miners having a go at TAG into the obvious position of questioning this altogether if their efforts are wasted ... why run the pools if its broke - who stands to gain, certainly not them with a shitload of orphans? I was asked if this was possibly a scam so you can stick that attitude of yours right up there where the sun don't shine!

TELL YOUR POOL OWNERS TO MAKE THAT OBVIOUS on the pool that it is fucked ! Easy really, and in all our interests I dare say .. so, why was this not done, is it a scam ?

Why would you get involved in a coin if you haven't read about it?  Wouldn't you want to at least read a few of the last pages of the thread to see if there were any recent issues that you should be aware of before you blindly jump on because coinwarz told you to?  That's just common sense, mate.

I've made it clearly apparent in my pool thread for TAGMining that we're hitting orphans, forks, low difficulty dips, whatever the case is at the time.  In fact:

I can't speak for other pool OPs, but I clearly pointed out the issue on my pool.  Again, it's well documented in this thread for the last x amount of pages.  The coin and pools didn't put you in the position of losing time/coins... your inability to read about what's going on did.

Now, to calm the waters, I'm willing to send you some TAG if you PM me your address.  It won't be a ton, but enough to say you got something for your complaining.

Just a reminder to keep the network healthy, and spread the hash rate around.  There are a few smaller pools that could use some extra miners.  This includes:

POT.CripToe.Com

I am giving out a 20POT block finder bonus to miners.  Bonuses for blocks found by myself or 24Kilo will go right back into the funds for other miners.  It's a rock solid 1% PPLNS pool just looking to have it's place in the community.  So if you want to show some love, come mine with us and get some sticky icky!

A bright flash and some smoke occurred on one corner of the motherboard. I'm guessing something finally died on the motherboard.

PSHHH... that's just how you know you broke it in.  Now it's time to push it harder!  Just jumper that component with a paperclip, and you're good to go!

I mean I've been mining at tagming for a couple days, and probably 80% of my coins are orphaned!! That's absurd!

The orphan rate on the site right now is 50%, verifiable by the block stats.  This is happening everywhere, but it is more pronounced on Tagmining because we are currently the largest pool.  So yeah, the orphans suck.  But Tagmining has also stayed ahead of the forks because of it's size.  I haven't had to resync or worry about whether we were falling behind, and usually after the orphan streaks we hit a super low difficulty for a dozen or more rounds, so it really does even out.

The orphan rate sucks right now.  But 80%?  No.

EDIT: And also, can someone please explain why the fix doesn't get implemented immediately, instead of setting a date and waiting for that date, while miners are losing money and wasting hashing power and time? I've seen some people say "If you don't like it, go mine some other coin!" That's great customer service and an excellent way to show the people who love TAG how much they are valued.

I'm one of the people that specifically said to people that if the orphan rate was a problem for them to mine something and come back when it's fixed.  But not because I want to push people away.  People who know me know that my #1 priority is the well being of my miners.  If you're not making the coin you think you should on my pool, mine on the pool that makes you more.  If the coin isn't performing like it was, go mine something else that makes you the money you need, and come back when it's right for you.  It's not about pushing people away mate.  It's about making sure people do what they need to do to keep the bills paid, and money in their pocket.  Do what's right for you  Smiley.

As far as the timing of the fix goes, it is what it is.  This isn't a fly by night coin.  The projected longevity and stability of the coin far outweigh any hiccups we've seen in the first 3 months.  I do wish we did another block checkpoint instead of a time checkpoint, but I agree that we need to make sure everyone is updated.  We could have easily had a block checkpoint, and then end up pulling a whale like BCX again to push the chain along.  Then what happens?  We're left with half the people on the old wallet, and the other half wondering why the new one still isn't working.  Dab's is 100% correct with this one.

Babomancer, PM sent.

FYI...

It appears we're forking like crazy again.  I was told we were behind the curve this time, but it now appears that we are ahead of the other pools with a difficulty in the 20s.  Get some, ladies and gents!

Hey, mate.  You realize that you're already close to half the reported network hash rate, right?  I shut down the registration on Tagmining.Com when we hit 40% of the network hashrate for TAG.

I can appreciate the push as a pool OP to get the word out and pull members, but Potcoin really needs to spread the hash rate around to other pools.  It keeps the network healthy!

If new miners are just starting to mine Potcoin, please spread the hash rate around a little and support the smaller pools.

OH MAN... my 10 gigabyte 270s have changed to status "Shipping Now".  So it looks like Amazon's 2-4 week shipping estimate on these was about 10 days.

So stoked.  By midweek next week, I should be part of the 10MH+ club.

I'm coming for you Kilo and Vesper!

Looking to sell upwards of 40K potcoin.  I'll sell 1k @ 0.1BTC OBO, or I'll do the whole 40K at 2BTC.

I will not send first unless you're a full/senior member with good rep.  Will accept escrow through a reputable 3rd party, but for a quick sale, you send then I send.

PM me with offers.

7th Jackpot

Alrighty folks, here's the info:

There were 397 total rounds for the week.  To be eligible for this jackpot, you would have needed to submit shares to 75% of those rounds, equaling 297 rounds.  There were 27 people who qualified for the jackpot.  Another record this week for miners who mined on the pool - 664!  The qualifying miners are as follows:

AFKMPEG
btab
caihuii
CrZnv
dkmarket
emvasquez
fiftycoin
gsoul5005
johndec
kolednik
kubur
mevecco
nothosaurus
parenzo
ppsirg
Scheffler667
Sergik
smitemesmith
TagCoinDaddy
Thekmartsheriff
therteen
thunkit
tiger
vesperwillow
widgetwhite
xmwxw
zuoxilong

Orphans again this week, but the fix is on the horizon.  So...

This week's total fees and donations equal roughly 200TAG  Sad.  So half of that, the total jackpot purse, is 100TAG.

This week's winners are as follows:

1st place -  thunkit                 50TAG  - TXID 3a83c2340dcc4686a9ff092bb124b19e5b8a58815471be043bd275df0e46d323
2nd place - fiftycoin               30TAG  - TXID 7efd0a2d582c69a54122f08a1d3149711c3d8de42b229f2e60ad17d16d04dfc4
3rd place -  smitemesmith     20TAG  - TXID 6101dd49925b492f92169fdbc3957ec85454191b547ef546fa2b12e8892132d6

Payments will be sent shortly, and TXID numbers will be posted above.

Congratulations, miners!  Good luck to everyone next week!  Pray to the orphan gods that they don't smite us as bad this week.

Dopecoin seems to have better marketing

Per the DopeCoin Dev:

Quote
DopeCoin is designed to facilitate a very broad demographic and enter into various billion dollar marketplaces VS simply one.

So while Dopey(the dev) might be pushing into marketing harder, his target demographic is questionable at best.  Also, if Dopecoin wasn't targetted just at Marijuana, then why use the leaf in the coin image.  I doesn't sound like he has a cohesive idea about where he wants the coin to go.

On the flipside, Potcoin is being targeted at the growing medical and recreational marijuana industry.  What sounds better going in to a dispensary, "I've got a coin that is used for black market drug sales" or "I've got a coin made for the marijuana industry"?  Dispensaries, grow shops, and businesses backing marijuana consider it a legitimate, legal, expanding industry, and no longer the back alley black market sales of the past.

Now I do have to say that I would like to see the Potcoin dev more active here in the forums.  Twitter is great, but when your target users are here more than anything, you need to be here as well to at least chat about where you think you would like to go.  Spitball ideas, offer bounties to keep people interested, etc.  People say he's active, but Potcoin(the dev) hasn't posted in this thread since page 5.  He needs to be here pushing this more.

Heya, with the USB 3 style powered risers, the power for the card comes from the power supply directly, it does not ever pass through the motherboard? If so, then the comment about needing only enough power to run the motherboard is true? Then you can power the the motherboard (and cpu and ram, the system) with one power supply, and you can use a different power supply to power the risers and GPUs?

Also, that means any motherboard that has the number of pcie slots you need would, in theory, work. What's the consensus on the cheapest MB that has the most slots? Or what are the top 3 motherboards for 4 GPUs, 5 GPUs, 6 GPUs, and 7 GPUs? Are there MBs with 8 slots? 9 slots? Is that ASRock BTC motherboard any good since you are going to get powered risers anyway? (or maybe it's redundant, or maybe it keeps the system really stable.)

I could ask this in another thread, but I figure you guys would be better, hehe.

You could probably run the riser power off another PSU easily.  Even something like a sub 500W PSU... at least in my mind I could see that happening.  But you have to think that powering the risers is the same as having them on the board.  The power draw is going to happen one way or another.  It's 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

The most PCIE slots you'll get on a traditional motherboard is 6.  This is a processor limitation.  I can't remember the thread, but I had posted it somewhere.  There was a really great discussion on some computer engineering forum, or something like that, about whether it was possible to have more than 6 on a board.  Now, if you went up to a server MB with dual CPU sockets, like the TIAN boards, you could go up to 12.  But the cost to do that is way more than going with 2 GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3(6 x PCIE) or ASUS M5A99FX PRO(5 x PCIE) MBs, both around $140 shipped Prime on Amazon.  I know you have different sources for goods, but the price should be close to that there as well.

The H81 board is slick in that it is really a bare bones mining board.  One particular feature I would want to test is the additional power input on the motherboard for the GPUs.  I'd love someone *cough cough Vesper* to grab one to test 6 cards sans powered risers.  I've seen them in the last few days on newegg and ebay for like $60.  You can buy them off members in the forums for like $170.  Culex has them for $100 if you could work out cheaper shipping.  But better resale value would go to the gigabyte or asus boards.

NOTICE TO JACKPOT SEEKERS:

After tearing my hair out trying to figure out why some people are not being included in the jackpot, I have stumbled across something in the MPOS code that explains it all:

Users who chose to be anonymous do not get recorded in the round tables with their user name, and therefore do not get tallied at the end of the week.

This means that you are being lumped in to a "anonymous" username count when I run my script to tally users.  It's not that you aren't being counted, but rather that you aren't being counted with your name.  There are a few possible ways to rectify this issue:

  • I maintain a separate, private round stats page for each round that uses modified code to display anonymous users to an outside, unauthenticated URL parsing script.  I don't see this happening without at least a weeks work to set up and test.  Possible downtime.
  • I implement an OAuth service so I can parse URL data as an authenticated user.  This would require heavy modification to the pool and to my code.  Maybe two weeks to research and implement the change.  Definite downtime.
  • Miners who want to be eligible for the jackpot do not mine on the pool as an anonymous user.  Immediate effect and change, requiring no coding or downtime.

Going forward, if you want to be eligible for the jackpot, you need to not be an anonymous user.  If you win the jackpot, your username and TXID info get posted anyway.

Problem finally solved.  This has been eating at me all week.  I don't know why I didn't think of this before.  I will update the jackpot rules accordingly.

Trolling? Naw, I posted here after a customer told me that he was pm'd out of my thread by this new seller. The only other one I can think of is the pro btc motherboard thread, which I think people need to know that they are budget boards, and overpaying for a budget board vs buying a different model for less is dumb. Thanks!

Also, mine's bigger!  100cm USB cables at the same price Smiley

Thanks for the correction.  I guess I forgot to change that when I rewrote what I was originally going to say to/about you.

Now that you've made it a point to shit on this thread again by pointing out the difference in your risers, you can move along and let the man do his business.

Again, thanks for the correction, mate.  Much obliged.

Man... just venting, but that Rick James seller guy is a tool.  On two occasions today, I've caught him bashing on new sellers, only to stomp them down, or further his own sales.  I don't get into flame wars on threads, I don't think the trolling is worth it, but man I want this guy to go away.  What a complete lack of community relation skills and integrity.

I will never recommend his sales threads to anyone... ever.

Really, thanks for the advice...  Roll Eyes   There is a difference between starting off, and sending pms to my customers trying to offer them the same thing I'm selling. I didn't do that to anyone selling these, in fact I waited until another seller had sold everything he was planning on getting then offered mine.  I'm selling thousands of these a week, and don't have a problem with competition, but there are ethical standards, things you don't do. Since you have only been here a week as well, you probably wouldn't understand.

Actually, he would, mate.  He's my coworker and business partner, and has read over my shoulder for the last year while I've been on these forums.  Just because he hasn't made an account until now doesn't mean he doesn't know the community.

Maybe it's that you haven't been around that long?  Or did you forget that you only registered a little over a month ago.

Just like I've been reading these forums for a year, just didn't need to post anything until I got my Jupiters.
What does any of that have to do with my actual points?  Did you just need to come in here to defend your friend?

No need to defend him, mate.  He can take care of himself.

The point that I'm addressing:

Assuming that he doesn't understand something because he is new is obtuse.  For someone who "sells thousands of items" a week, you're community relation skills are lacking.  I've seen you, on a few occasions now, 2 today alone, trolling sellers' threads.  Just go sell your 1000's of items a week, and let people sell theirs.  You don't need to bash people for trying to make something of themselves here, whether they PM "your" customers or not.  Last time I checked, people don't need to sign exclusivity contracts when they look at items for sale.

Just my $0.02.
