Was that the 1GB or 2GB model, for speed?

1GB model.  Consider it the new 5850 at a higher clock speed.

Anyone here ever try Gigabyte 1GB 7850's?

You'll get 350 out of them, so a little more than 2kh/$ with what Newegg is selling them for.  The 2 fan design isn't as killer as the 3 fan design, but they're good cards.  However, if you can find them(they pop up every now and then), you're better off buying 5850s in the forums at half the cost.  I've been able to find used 5850s for < $75.

But the 7850s are stellar.  And Gigabyte is known for a trade up on an RMA when the model is discontinued(7950s are getting 280Xs in return right now).

Breaking news...

There is 50TAG listed for sale on the TagBond Exchange at a significant discount to the current Crypsty price BTC.0009750 at time of this post.

I will keep the TAG listed for today... let's get some daily trades happening on the TAG Exchange... I am not planning to sell TAG at a discount forever... Mark... we need price support from head office.

Com, on fellows... let's get some trading happening... there is no trading fees so it does not cost us anything to do a bit of trading between ourselves to create some traffic.

If I had the BTC, I would snatch it up.  I'll probably offer some TAG up after this week's jackpot.  I'll split my portion of the payout between the server bill and the exchange.

I spent some coin today on some of those USB risers that I've been looking at for a while.  I should get them Friday/Saturday.  I'll let you guys know how they rate when I get them up and running.

Also:

Happy New Years to everyone!  Have a safe and joyous New Years Eve!

1565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin on: January 01, 2014, 12:25:08 AM
I am still watching this alt coin, as I do like the business model but right now I hate the coin.  Why I look at a forum site like Feathercoin has, and its very well developed and communities build the coins.  Tagyak is okay but I would like to see a more PHP site like this from Tagbond.  I am not interested in doing altcoin exchanges on crypsty as I have Bitcoin friends heavily involved in Doge and they despise the site so I would really like to see someone like Mark who I would trust work on the exchange site.

24Kilo - Commending you on adding TAG on the exchange.

Mark has already expressed a desire to create a subdomain forum site for tagcoin/tagbond(forum.tagXXXX.XXX).  I'm not sure if that idea ever took off, but I agree that it would be a good thing to have in-house.  Not knocking TagYak(props to Centurion for stepping up and creating the forum), but I agree that the SM / phpBB / BB clones would be a better fit in the long run with the plugin/add-on capabilities.

I 100% agree with your ideas about the exchange.  I'm sure a lot of people here agree that getting the exchange up and running, with direct miner to retailer TAG sales, should be priority #1.  Mark has already expressed that this is one of the things that the development team are working hard on, so I'm guessing we just need to hang tight and wait it out.

+1 about 24Kilo... he's a pillar of the TAG community.  Not only is he actively involved on my pool thread, this thread, and LeftToeCut's pool thread on a daily basis, but he stepped up to help LeftToeCut get his pool off the ground, and now he's providing TAG to the community at lower than Cryptsy prices to stimulate trade.  My hats off to him.

Way too expensive, mate.  For $460(over MSRP), you can get a brand new Sapphire 280X Toxic that would do 100-150KH more than those cards.  You'd probably get some interest at about $350 or less.

Just my $0.02.

You might want to rethink your price on these if you want to sell them.  You're about double what the going rate is here in the forums.  Everyone is buying 280Xs and the market is flooded with these codes.  Same thing happened with the never settle bundles.  First couple went for good money, then they sold for next to nothing.  Sell them at the going rate now while you can, or you'll be holding $5 vouchers.

FYI, there is currently a small arbitrage opportunity between cryptsy and bter on TAG right now.  Probably about a 580TAG trade for a 0.03-0.04BTC profit.  I know it's not a lot, but it's there.  If I had the liquid BTC I would jump on it right now.  So I figured I'd pass it on to you guys.  If I see these in the future I'll let you guys know.

Another thing to consider...

http://davaocity.en.craigslist.com.ph/reo/4261750526.html

This is 20HA farm in the Philippines for sale for 5500000PHP.  So using the high end suggested exchange rate, it's about 55,000TAG.  So take a guy like Vesper, with 8-9MH on average on the pool everyday.  He's easily pulling 100+TAG a day(right now 168 at difficulty of 34).  So even at 100TAG a day, that's 550 days of mining and you pay that place off and own your own tropical farm.

I know that's a stretch of the imagination, but I'd like to think that one day I'm going to retire on coin and have my own place somewhere tropical, paid free and clear.

As far as LeftToeCut's pool goes, mate... do what you think is right.  It's a noble cause helping him out, so kudos for that.  You'll always have a spot here if you decide to swing back over.
1575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAG] TAGMining.Com- Try your chance at our weekly jackpot! on: December 30, 2013, 05:27:49 PM
Personally, I'm making about $150 gross per week (before electricity and amortising equipment costs) with 2.3MH/s at those prices.  Yes, I've had a bit of fun/profit mining the 2 latest hot coins, DOGE and EAC but I think my long term approach is to stick pretty tight to TAG.  I'm working on the theory that Mark (tagbond) is going to:

a. Actually get the business model up and running to his expectations and
b. Get to a steady price point of 1 TAG = $2.00 which he stated was a goal in the main thread.  TAG has already been there briefly a few weeks ago when the Chinese went crazy buying anything and everything and pushing BTC to nearly $1300.00

Do you guys think a and/or b will come to fruition?

I'll take a stab at these 2 key points:

a. The thing I think we overlook with Tagcoin is that the business model is already up and running.  Businesses are already using it, and people are slowly adopting the rewards system.  In my correspondences with Mark, he has hinted at expansion plans.  I can't go into that any further, but he has plans  Grin.  So I think we'll see a nice steady growth of the system, and a long term economic model we can bank on... whether we're miners or rewards users.  I think you'll see things come out of Tagcoin far beyond what Mark is projecting for the next year.

b. I think we need to start thinking about the regional currency that this system is targeted at right now.  If you take the business model that Mark is shooting for- 1TAG = 80PHP-100PHP, you're looking at a conversion at about $1.80-2.25.  This is the buy/sell spread he is going to shoot for with his internal exchange.  I think if we were to focus on one thing that needs to be pushed for, it's the exchange.  Lets be honest, ATM our main exchange is Cryptsy.  There is BTER and Coinex, but try selling or buying more than 100TAG without moving the prices +/- 300% of where they are at.  I think once the exchange is properly operational, with the direct retailer buy options(where we can sell direct to the businesses), we'll see a better exchange rate for the coin.  I'll take a coin that I can mine for a year knowing that it will be a consistent rate all year.  I know almost everybody in crypto is about the big swing trades and wins, but I can see TAG being a long term solution for miners who like stability.

I would love to use TAG on the farm, but which works better selling this...

(picture of yummy food I want to eat right MEOW!)

this... or this...

I really like TAG and hope that Mark and the team achieve their goals, which I am quite positive they will, and if so, I am definitely a long-term TAG miner, maybe just not a user. I think TAG will be a steady and consistent earner, not the most profitable or the latest fad, but solid and predictable, a coin that you can take to the bank each week to pay the bills with some profit left over, and that makes TAG my choice of coin to mine for the long-term.

+1, and exactly how I feel about the stability.

But as far as using TAG on the farm, I think I look at Tag a little bit differently.  Why not use Tagbond, and tagverts, to offer your buyers rewards on what they buy?  Maybe if they buy X amount of veggies you give them X amount of TAG, but if they use Earthcoin to buy the same veggies they get 2X the amount of TAG.  Or maybe its a buy 10 with Earthcoin get one free, or whatever.  All of which is easily trackable through the Tagvert system.  You could even use RFID cards, like the TAG cards I have, to make it easier to track these rewards.  They don't even need to be the official Tagbond cards, you could have them branded for the farm, as well as with Earthcoin, and give them out as the farm's rewards card.

I think we need to look further than just the coin, and really focus on the rewards system that the coin is backing.

24Kilo, if you believe Earthcoin is going to be successful, and widely used, maybe it's worth asking Mark to include it in the internal exchange.  Then you could easily exchange TAG for Earthcoin or fiat once the exchange is live.

Speaking of which, how would I go about running either my own pool, or running something like p2pool? I'd like to see how it's done, if Fuse doesn't mind. Doesn't mean I'd set one up though ... but 1% or 2% of 50~100 MH/S looks good. I'd probably add my own miner too, since 1% of 100 MH/s is only 1 MH/s and a 4 GPU rig is more than double that already.

Dabs, sorry for the late reply.  I've been sick the last few days, and I haven't been as active as I usually am.

Getting a regular MPOS stratum pool up and running is relatively easy to do if you follow the MPOS instructions to a t.  The only thing you need to remember is that Tagcoin is a POS coin as well, so you need to make sure you get the POS branch of the stratum-litecoin-mining git project.  Other than that, it's just a lot of configuration.  If you aren't running on high-powered servers, dedicated or otherwise, remember to shut off the live stats.  I learned the hard way that they take a toll on your CPU usage, especially if you start pulling a lot of pool workers(not accounts, but workers).

As far as P2Pool goes, I've never tried.  I would guess it would be as easy as setting up the wallet, pointing the p2pool service at the wallet, and testing it out.  I'll take a look and see how hard it would be.  I'll report back with what I find.

-Fuse

Edit- Dabs, take a look at https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool.  Pretty straight forward on the setup, assuming you some general knowledge in the services used.  If you decide to go down that road, and need some help, let me know.

Fuse,

I have moved 5Mh/s or so back into the pool... seems the TAG.cryptopool.IT may have crashed or hung... been nearly 12 hours since a block which is unusual... so decided to come back home for abit!!!

Good to be back... gets lonely over there!!!

Welcome back, mate!  Good to have you around!

My 3yo daughter gave me a late xmas present this weekend.  I've been battling a 102+ temp for the last couple days.  If I don't respond right away to PMs and such, it's because I'm probably passed out.  I swear she breaks my heart though.  She comes up to me, gives me her favorite stuffed animal, a kiss on the forehead, and tells me, "this will make you feel better, daddy."   Cry like a hallmark Christmas commercial.

Which 280x cards are confirmed to be voltage unlocked?  Is it safe to say ALL reference cards are?  Come Jan 1st, I'll (hopefully) be doing the gyft to amazon thing assuming they have something in stock or on short backorder.

Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD-GA Rev 2.0 cards ARE NOT unlocked... or at least I have not found a way to unlock them.

Sapphire Dual-X is unlocked or at least voltage can be change with MSI Afterburner and Sapphire TRIXX... but cgminer does not seem to be able to adjust the voltage.

Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD Rev 1.0 cards are unlocked and voltage can be controlled by cgminer

I have a MSI Twin-Frozr, but can't remember if the voltage is locked or not.

+1 for the info 24Kilo!

I had an interesting conversation with my dad today(FusesDad on the pool).  He asked, "what would it cost to buy 4 more cards?"  I tried to explain to him how even if there were 4 in stock somewhere, we'd probably be limited to 2, or we'd be competing with the quickest click in the west, Vesperwillow.  Vesper, I'm thinking you need to start a service where you buy cards on Amazon and sell them to me at a profit.  I honestly don't think I can compete with your 1-click-buy skills.

I have also updated his post in the newbie sub-forum.
