1461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: THIS CRASH IS DIFFERENT than previous crashes... The FEDERAL RESERVE is why.... on: June 21, 2022, 08:21:36 AM
Of course they knew about huge volatility.  BUT, Bitcoin was being advertised to institutions as now more stable, DIGITAL GOLD, INFLATION HEDGE, and that the huge crashes were a thing of the past.

That narrative is now dead.   It would take a very long time for institutional money to trust Bitcoin as being stable again...
I don't recall anyone ever advertising Bitcoin as a stable currency, and institutions/companies would've absolutely known this. In fact, I actually suspect this is why some of them got involved in the first place. El Salvador for example, likely got involved anticipating a upward trend, so they can better their country very quickly. Obviously, at the moment the opposite has happened, but if they were to hold on long enough to see x2/x3 their money, they could really launch their country, quicker than they would be able to elsewhere.

They'll be back, but the volatility has always been a issue for companies to start accepting Bitcoin. It's why the likes of Steam, Wikipedia and various other companies pulled out after a certain period. This isn't anything new at all.
1462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Age of bitcoiners on: June 21, 2022, 08:16:51 AM

Maybe old people might didn't have an interest in technology or even using computers.
And most of us now in our age are more fluent on gadgets, so I think that's the reason.
Which as of right now, is probably the contributing factor to younger ages generally being more involved with Bitcoin. It's a currency, the only real difference is it requires a certain knowledge of computers to secure effectively, which is harder the older you're because you haven't grown up with computers. Unless, you have a specific interest, you've likely steered clear of them.

Although, computers are becoming more common in older people now, I imagine in the next twenty years this won't be an issue at all. As pretty much every generation will have some sort of familiarity with computers, and I imagine most will depend on one whether it's for personal usage or within their working environment. I mean phones are pretty much owned by everyone these days, and the majority of them being smart phones.

So I wanna ask what you guys think of Nurmagomedov - Rakmanov - Moises parlayed at 1.90?
Sounds good to me. Probably my three favourites on the card, that I don't see slipping up. If I were to pick one that could potentially slip up, I think it would be Shavkat. Neil Magny isn't a push over. I do expect the three of them to win though. 1.90 returns, I mean depends on how much you'd put on it. However, I'd be pretty confident of netting a return putting them in a treble.

I like the look of Tsarukyan too against Gamrot. My underdog of the night would likely be Rodolfo Vieira. Although, I'll review some tape before making any decisions on that. Just those are my early leans.
1464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did Bitcoin Disappointed You ? on: June 20, 2022, 11:21:49 AM
Nope. Actually, I'm finding a lot of users here are a little more positive than expected, which is a good thing. I was only just talking about this the other day. Instead of the constant doom, and gloom we've actually seen a lot of users claiming to accumulate Bitcoin at these discounted rates. Obviously, we still have the doom, and gloom which is somewhat evident in this thread, but you only need to go to the speculation section, to figure out not everyone is on the same wave length.

I think the saving grace is that Bitcoin has had these dips before, even if this one is more than expected compared to the last one, hopefully that'll teach people that history doesn't always repeat itself, and even with technical analysis, it's only an indicator, and not something that's a foregone conclusion.

Although, I'm not sure why Bitcoin would disappoint me. I can still control my money, don't have to worry about a third party controlling it, and I can spend it on what I like. Plus, when I first got into Bitcoin it was no where near this low point that some people are claiming, it was much, much less.
1465  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 20, 2022, 10:01:48 AM
Lolol.  Cheesy  I was totally annoyed, I wanted to kick the TV.  But yeah...  I gotta do a better job to get the top ticket right to at least get my money back and live another day.  So note to self, don't but prelim matches in the top ticket or low level WMMA.  They're unpredictable.

And man the event was so good.  Out of all the events in the UFC this year, I think UFC London and this recent one at Austin have been the most memorable so far.  They're not even PPV events!
Completely wrecked it for me. I hate losing my accumulator on the first fight, just takes all the extra tension out of the night. Although, luckily as I said this particular fight night really did deliver.

I'm going to try, and get tickets on one of the London ones. Maybe, when Aspinall or some of the Welsh fighters are due on next. I just know its expensive, and then its travelling to London, which I can tell you now I bloody hate. Hate Cities, but I've never been to an actual event, and it's probably over due the amount I actually watch these days.
1466  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [Q]To take a loan or not to on: June 20, 2022, 09:33:59 AM
The thing is, Bitcoin doesn't even have to fail or not go up for you to be burned. Loans are taken out for a period of time. Usually, the longer they're taken out for the more fees associated with it. Interest rates will also go up in the future, and usually loan companies have their terms of service written in such a way that they can change the interest rate that you signed up for.

What I'm trying to say is, even if Bitcoin did go up to one million a coin, if it takes fifty years, you're probably still probably going to get burned because that loan had to be paid off within five years. I don't think gambling on whether or not Bitcoin is going to be successful in the long run is unlikely, and in my opinion is probably one of the more safe investments you can make, but to put a timescale on it, and then have the time pressures from the loan, that's just asking for trouble.

In short, nope don't do it.
1467  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 19, 2022, 03:40:06 PM
Horrible night for predictions, for the most part anyway. However, we've been proper spoiled the last two weeks. I'm not sure what the record is of finishes per card, but surely this one has to be up there? In between the quick knockouts we had some competitive fights. Pretty much exactly what you want when you tune in. I don't there was a bad fight in there. Some pretty dominant performance, but at the same time still being rather entertaining.

I did end up betting, but lost on the first fight with that bloody knee.
1468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: THIS CRASH IS DIFFERENT than previous crashes... The FEDERAL RESERVE is why.... on: June 19, 2022, 03:34:44 PM
And so the cycle repeats. I remember back in in the 2017 bull market where people were throwing money left right and center in to every completely pointless and stupid ICO that came along. The ICO bubble burst, the whole market crashed, 99.9% of those shitcoins died and were never heard of again, and bitcoin just kept going as it always does. This time round people threw their money away on picture of monkeys, shitcoins like Luna, and scam centralized platforms like Celsius. But bitcoin will keep going as it always does.
Interesting point, that I hadn't come to the conclusion of. I'm a big believer in correlation doesn't mean causation, but this is quite a good way of looking at things. I remember how mad the 2017 craze of ICOs was, I mean we're still recovering here on the forum from the amount of spam that invited in, but also the effect it had on cryptocurrency adoption.

Although, I didn't make the connection of the recent NFT, and other shit coins that have been peddled recently. So, while on one hand it doesn't look like the market is following the exact same pattern that some people claim it to be, it does have some interesting deja vu with the ICO, and NFT craze.
1469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador loses more than half the value of its reserves in bitcoins on: June 17, 2022, 10:01:45 PM
If El Salvador's reserves can absorb the Bitcoin dip comfortably, then it's not much of an issue.
Right. Although, if they don't hold through the dip, we might see Bitcoin go on sale even more. Since, its confirmation bias for a lot of people, that if it fails in El Salvador they'll see it as a risky investment, which will never be adoption by serious businesses or countries again. I'm definitely not saying they're right in thinking that, but they will absolutely think it.

I don't mind the price dropping a little further, but I'd rather El Salvador cutting their loses not be the cause of it as it could significantly hurt adoption in the medium term, at least from a legal tender point of view.
1470  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dealing with ISP block on Gambling websites on: June 17, 2022, 09:55:17 PM
but quickly realized that it was actually blocked by my ISP.
Ah, so the war has began on anything Bitcoin related now. I hate how much power ISP's have. They don't have any right in my opinion to censor what you can view. Obviously, they're a private company so they can make their own policies, and you sign up to them. However, it's still wrong.

They don't ban other fiat trading gambling related websites, so they shouldn't with Bitcoin trading ones. As others have said a simple VPN will fix this. You could have problems with the site themselves if they don't allow VPNs. Alternatively, you can use your phone connection, those usually aren't blocked, unless the company providing your contract has done so, in my experience they've only ever had parental controls, rather than blocking websites.
1471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is dead! on: June 17, 2022, 09:51:20 PM
Exactly this.
How people view the world these days has greatly become a result of what news outlets you listen to as each have their own side of the story, while the actual story takes the back seat.
It's a shame. It's even more evident with news sites, and their stance on Bitcoin. I hate it when so called economy experts talk about Bitcoin. They seem to focus on the risk involved, when I consider the risk of Bitcoin to be substantially lower than any other investment that you could make. The thing is in the same line of breath they'll go recommend some risky stock or they'll say to invest in property, saying it has historically gone up. They fail to mention that its because of inflation.

Even the dedicated Bitcoin news sites I'm not a huge fan of. Most of them pull the same sort of stuff that traditional media does.
1472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let us know your contribution towards making BTC become successful in your area on: June 17, 2022, 09:48:10 PM
That's how I felt when I first explained Bitcoin to the people closest to me, even though they thought I was exaggerating. But after thinking about it again, it turns out that there is a concept that is wrong with what I explained, namely where the explanation is too clear and does not make comparisons with real examples in their daily lives.

For example: when I show them their bitcoin transaction activity with a comparison of simulated real transactions that they often do on a daily basis, the difference is that they use fiat while in the world of digital transactions we use what is called Bitcoin.
I've tried the technique of associating it with something they already use, but they're too used to traditional banking, since it has built in protections, which they consider a benefit. It's just hard too convince someone who hasn't had any problems with banks or their money being inaccessible, because they don't appreciate that Bitcoin can't be censored by a third party, whereas your fiat definitely can.

I've given up for now, but I do know the questions are going to be coming my way again with the price tanking, and of course they hear about that. I'm not interested in being right, I just wish I could explain in such a way they could retain the information. Up to this point I've failed in convincing many people that Bitcoin is a better alternative to fiat currencies.

1473  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 17, 2022, 09:42:38 PM
I'm still undecided if I'll be betting on this weekend event. I'm just not feeling the match ups, think there will be a lot of close fights that could go either way. Anyway, predictions:

Josh Emmett
Donald Cerrone
Kevin Holland
Albert Duraev
Damir Ismagulov
Julian Marquez
Adrian Yanez
Jeremiah Wells
Ricardo Ramos
Maria Oliveira
Cody Stamann
Phil Hawes
Kyle Daukaus

Really underrated card in my opinion. There's some absolute wars in those match ups, could we get some absolutely memorable, from top to bottom event back to back? Because last weeks was brilliant from a entertainment perspective.
1474  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 3 Bitcoin Suddenly Appeared in My Digital Wallet on: June 17, 2022, 06:12:17 PM
Check it via a Blockchain explorer, then you'll know if someone has actually deposited something to your address (unlikely) or Ledger is acting up. I would've thought that other people would have reported this issue if it was on the Ledger side of things though. Unless, you aren't up to date with the latest updates?

Although, if it's a glitch on their side, and not something on your system that's causing it. I'd definitely be questioning the software behind it, especially when its holding something that's so sensitive.
1475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is dead! on: June 17, 2022, 06:05:40 PM
Media houses would still release such headlines to get traffic and stay in the times.
As a hodler, such reports or even the price fluctuations do not matter much. All that matters is buying and having a secure storage to hold in.
You only have to look at their reporting history to find out their bias. Most only produce articles that are sensationalist, so when Bitcoin returns or even goes beyond what they've previously reported as the bubble bursting, they don't post anything about it since it doesn't get the clicks, and they'll focus their attention on something else happening in the world which will.

My news intake has gradually gone from semi frequent to non existent. The only time I was invested in the news somewhat was with Covid, since I needed to know what was going on, especially when it comes to business, and what was, and wasn't allowed etc. Other than that, I don't even check the weather these days.

I used to search for neutral news sites, then quickly come to the conclusion that they don't really exist. Even the ones which are known for being more neutral than others, have a bias in some shape or form.
1476  Economy / Speculation / Re: WHAT EVENT DO YOU THINK WILL USHER BTC INTO THE NEXT BULLRUN? on: June 17, 2022, 05:59:38 PM
We don't necessarily need an event to start the next bull run, and we don't really need a major event to keep the price up in the long term. All we need is time, and a steady pace of adoption. I'm talking about both user adoption, as well as merchants picking up Bitcoin, and accepting payments.

As long as we continue how we're going right now, there shouldn't be too many problems going forward. There's no major events that I see coming up other than the halving, if you call that major, as it's predetermined, and I don't know if I would call it major.
1477  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie status even with more than 30 activity on: June 17, 2022, 05:54:29 PM
This is typical for bump spam or Newbies trying to rank up. Welcome to my ignore list.
Sadly, incredibly common tactic. Usually, they then start pumping out some decent or at least passable content that gets them a few merits to rank up. Very common of alt farmers, although I'm not exactly accusing the OP here of that. Although, most of the super low quality posts have been removed.

Hopefully, they'll take that as a warning, and improve.

Ugh, I read your post after writing the above.  He definitely shouldn't have gotten any merits here, but I think PX-Z had good intentions.  Vifzor, if you're working toward earning merits you might want to step up the quality of your posts by a factor of 100 at least.  You don't want to end up on the ignore lists of merit sources, and creating this thread isn't helping you.
Or banned. Although, I do agree that PX-Z likely did have the best of intentions, and wanted to help a new user out. Can't hold anything against them for that.
1478  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 17, 2022, 05:49:23 PM
Kattar is durable enough...  I think, eerrr I hope so.  I got him at top ticket for my lottery.  And I have to say, I'm glad that a lot of you guys are coming up to speed and having a feel for what's going on in the UFC.  I could tell just from reading all your replies.  It was a lot different a couple of years ago.

Here's what my lottery ticket would look like...  I haven't made the bet yet as I want to see these guys on the scale.  There might be changes.  And the lines are from Rollbit.  I started going there instead of my Stake account.  That account could be bad luck.  Lololol.  Cheesy
Taken a lot of damage over the years definitely. I've seen it before though, that a fighter who once had a chin, suddenly loses it, and even a strong wind would knock them over. However, Yeah Kattar is a determined fighter, and has the chin to back it up too.

I'm relatively new to the UFC to be fair. I've always stayed away with it as I rather ignorantly thought it was a brutal sport, and didn't like the idea of seeing someone get beat down in a cage. Although, the way boxing went, and then following some podcasts which ultimately led me to watching a bit of UFC, has me hooked. Must be two years now I've been watching? Don't know exactly. I even do BBJ now. Started with the Gracies school thing, that they offer online. Their self defense course.
1479  Economy / Speculation / Re: $13,000 is quite possible this week on: June 16, 2022, 10:26:52 PM
I know this is going to sound a little daft, but this might the last chance we have of getting Bitcoin for this cheap. Obviously, no guarantee, but even if it isn't the cheapest it'll ever be, I do believe that in the long term you won't be seeing these sorts of prices, so might as well accumulate some if you believe in Bitcoin. Don't wait for the absolute bottom, as you'll likely miss it.

For anyone panicking about what the bottom might be, and what the long term outlook is, I'd encourage you to take a look at the fundamentals of Bitcoin, rather than its current price. Its current price isn't going to influence the long term price too much. We're already seeing stubborn people like me, who won't be selling whatever the price hits. Which means, even when the economy is crashing down, we believe Bitcoin will bounce back.

Plus, I'm by no means in the select few there. There's plenty of people with this attitude. That's quite telling, and almost a little special, since any other investment doesn't have that belief. Even when you support your favourite team, you can lose faith when trailing. Bitcoin has done a good job of convincing a certain amount of people, to keep it reliable.

I'm not as concerned about people losing faith as I used to be. Especially, when it comes to merchant confidence. Although, I do think we'll see the most merchant adoption when Bitcoin proves to be a more stable currency, which we're a bit off right now.
1480  Economy / Economics / Re: Apple wants to replace all passwords with biometrics on: June 16, 2022, 10:19:53 PM
Apple has never been known for its security to be fair. More about collecting data, same as Google, actually come to think of it, every company out there. Since, data makes money. Security, doesn't necessarily do so.

Do I think it'll pass? Maybe, not right now. However, it has come quite clear that in modern times we're getting lazy, and therefore we seek out convenience over security. Therefore, biometrics actually appeals to the vast majority of their network. So, yeah I do think biometrics will eventually become the standard.

However, I imagine they'll keep the optional passwords. If not, they'll likely be met with laws that make it compliance to offer the option. EU in particular is quite strict on these sort of things, I believe they recently passed the requirement for all Apple phones to require USB C rather than their own connector.
