For some reason I had that video of the rat breathing oxygenated fluid run through my head just now...


But honestly, I am considering doing this to the S7; but I don't mind it when the fan speed is 30% and hashrate is 3.5Th avg....

But for the newer louder hotness they just released, and seeing board AND chip temps; I think a submerged cooled unit would be awesome.  I could pipe it far away and outside easily to a radiator and sump tank.  Just need pumps good enough.

Nothing a decent pump and a nice trip to HomeCheepo can't handle.

I don't want the noise with any more miners.  The S7 is like an S3 that's fans are running full tilt...  And that's all I'm willing to deal with anymore.

BTW:  I live in a "confined space" with my miners.  One of them is taken in and managed by me at home for a friend for a split of profit.   A friend and I almost have our business model down for setting up small farms at locations with very very very little rent that happens to include free power to the tune of a 60A 240v supply line for each space rented.....   Oah man... If only they knew what we have planned!!!

Almost at 2 hours now, web page indicateds 13,544.19 GH/S(RT) and 13,6954.32(avg) - just added the "Lowes sound mod" and noticing the temps go up a few degrees - now at 65-67C.

Of interest, Slushpool is crediting my S9 with 14.53TH/s over the past hour:



My units are in a basement "machine room", so thinking of removing the grills to see if that helps.  On my S7s, I found partially blocking the intake worked, but raised temps.  Using a block of 2x3 lumber BEHIND the unit brought the sound under control.  May play a bit more before disabling the safety grills.

I have still been testing different pools with 24 hour runs.  This time I gave BTCC a try with the S9.  During the 24 hour run the S9 hashed very close to the 14T as shown with extremely low hardware errors.   Still no issues with pool comparability, which points to good news.  The pictures below show results which I'm very happy with.

Sound report:  Doing the Lowes filter trick raised my temps about 10%.  Removing the fan guard lowered my temps 1-2C and made the unit rather quiet (at least relative to S7s or S4s).

Tried removing the fan guards from the S7s and had very little impact.  Placing a Lowe's filter across the intakes worked great though.  Since I have 2, side by side, I just used one filter and suction is holding it in place.  Temps are up a bit but very inconstant now, varying from 53 to 63 between the 6 boards.  Still that is in line with the S9 temps, so I suspect I'm fine.

Right - for this and fee reasons never use saved or mined btc to pay for a miner.  If you really think btc will go up, buy the btc with cash, then buy the miner.

Not sure I'm following - what difference does it make where the BTC came from? It's still the same amount that you need to ROI. Speaking of which - if you think that BTC will go up, why buy an overpriced miner that might or might not ROI in 9-12 months? BTC going up will just make it worse for ROI (likely faster difficulty growth etc).

I go to coinbase today right now spend 2k on coin and send it right to bitmaintech.  my cost is 2k in btc and in usd.

If I sold 8 gpus at 200 each in btc on June 1  I made a gain since the coin went up in fiat so I would use less coin 15 days later to buy the miner.

same applies if I mined coins from april to june 16 to buy the unit.  the coins went up in value.

The curse of having a degree in accounting. Being the son of an IRS auditor the husband of an IRS revenue agent and lastly finishing college while working in IRS collection division ( truly a really bad job).

It can be difficult trying to explain that bad and hold is in no way the same as mining.

Worse yet while all that I say may be true for USA accounting rules there are lots of places these rules do not apply.

Also, does anyone have a link to the spec sheet on the BM1387?  I can't find it on the site but I suspect it's there somewhere.

Yes. I used a few more friend's account. Miners from my own account  I received yesterday. The rest should be today.

what is the ambient temperature in the room?  I suspect that getting 14.0 th will not happen  unless room is 70 f  or 21.c

and that board is not sick  61c  and 93c are fine

In a data datacenter I'm getting 13.55 TH/s average for one day as read by the pool.
13.66 TH/s on the miner (avg). Errors are at 0.003.   650M.
Temps are 62 PCB and 88 chips.
As good as it will get I imagine.

Sometimes a slight  freq down-clock will improve  numbers :

try 643.75 for a day and compare.
try 637.50 for a day and compare.


the s-3's   and I had a lot   sometimes the 343.75 or the 337.5 were better then the 350 settings

Don't have any thermometer at hand right now but should be around 22-23°C.

hmm which new psu are you talking about?? the miners with the psu mounted on the top? those are only supposed to reach 2.7th/s on the default config. or do you mean the separate 1600w psu (if so those arent "new") they sell? that psu only runs on 220v power i believe so are you sure your using 220v and not 110v?? try using another psu with 4 pci-e power connectors and hook 1 up to the controller and the other 3 to one of the boards. power the miner on with 1 board at a time and see what the hashrate for each board is. this will help you determine which board has issues.

Completely useless suggestions.

First of all, he lives in a country where is 230V electricity .
Second. I'm pretty sure he bought 1600W PSU.
Thirdly. S9 software shows each blade separately. Hashing speed and HV errors.
There is no need to disconnect anything.

I got my first five S9 and one is also "lemon".
Tomorrow brings  courier another 6x S9 . I hope they are better.

All New Bitmains 1600 Watt psu's and 220V. Got 100+ Bitmain miners and have never had so many problems with a lot like these 5 pcs.
2 of them are just completely dead… no light no nothing.

What a dissapointing miner. Got 5 pcs S9`s and only 1 is working 100% even after firmware upgrade.
1 miner is running only 2 th on 1 board another miner is only running 2.4 TH on all 3 boards and 2 are completely dead. I bought even the new Bitmain PSU with the miners...

my two

1 does freq 625 good temps.
1 does freq 587 good temps.

I do firmware after all other methods are tried.

I would have down clcoked the 2th at

 freq 650
 then 625
 then 600
then 575
 then 550
 then 525
then 500 if that failed

I would have pulled the psu from the best miner running close to spec and put it on the 2th 1 board miner. and tried freq 500 first.

if it worked I would know the boards are okay and the psu was shit.
if it did not work I would know the miner has an issue.

1 very stable at freq 625 fans at 90%  about 13250
1 very stable at freq 587 fans at 90%  about 12750

they are good from 75 f to 90 f

Im planning to try out lower freq on 2 of them today even they are all running at very cool temperatures. 80C on Chips.
I just do not understand why 2 are just dead….  No light no nothing. Tried 3 different Bitmain 1600 psu's on them and they just do not react at all…
