Unfortunately there is this element of luck in solo mining. The calculator gives you an estimate of how often you "should" get lucky. However don't be surprised if like me you hash away and don't hit a block. Based on the calculator I should have hit several blocks by now. So I will wait patiently for a little while longer before moving back to the pools. Very discouraging. This is why we have pools and they must be supported also. But yes it can take some time. And Blocks can come close together. Every one has to make up their own mind. Even pools get good and bad luck. Solo is a good way to defend the network when under attack. I have my fingers crossed for you Longsnowsm. Best to have options. I have not ruled out switching when things are stable again.

I love how people come out of the wood work as soon as the price spikes or drops. If your "just a trader" then go ahead and sweat every price blip, freak out, jump out of tall buildings or off of a big bridge or whatever traders do when they lose their minds over money. I personally think ETC is a much much bigger thing than "just another coin" to trade. Now if you believe in the technology, the promise of what Ethereum brings then you can just ignore the price of the "traded" tokens. This is still the early days of building something far greater than just another "scam coin". We have a infrastructure and ecosystem to build. This is a long term "investment" in the technology and what it offers. I can only speak for myself, but I am in this long term. And any time you get big pull backs in price it is just a buying opportunity. We are busy building something, not looking for something to jump off of... If you want to talk purely ETC trading and the end of the ETC world your more than welcome to start another thread discussing how high the bridge or building needs to be for a good jump etc. We won't get in the way. Sorry things are not going well for some of the traders. Over time things will just keep getting better, and the price will reflect the hard work so so many that are part of this "movement".

If any of these people really wanted to know who is doing the work, and what projects are being worked they would jump over to the Slack and hang out, ask questions... But I seriously doubt they are going to do that. Things are under way, some things are baby steps, some things are in the grand scheme planning phases. Regardless lots of people tirelessly working very hard on many aspects. We have seen some progress, and some things are painfully slow in developing. Getting a consensus on anything is tough for sure. I fully understand why the ETHF exists and why some things get decided at a smaller group level and only larger issues in the general course of the group are put out there for the general consensus. There is just a lot going on. Too bad it isn't the kind of stuff that makes sensational headlines to get people all pumped up. Sometimes framing a house is just "framing a house". Everyone is excited when it gets close to being done or is finished. They can see it taking a shape they want, but getting to that point takes lots of hammers, nails, people, and hard work.

Ask questions, watch the conversations. There are a bunch of people coding, planning, communicating, coordinating. Things are happening for sure. It is just going to take some time. I don't think ETC is going away any time soon. The momentum is still building and some very talented people are working it.

Really like the way you put that example.
It's true there are A LOT of talented people on the ETC project and for the great things to happen it will take time for it to all span out. Out of any of the coins out there, ETC already has a good foundation down and as longsnowsm said the framing is being done on the house. I see it as opportunity to take part in something great that will have an explosive future, looks at the devs putting in time, major pools on board, listed on every major exchange, and the publicity it receives already. That is half the battle of any coin that wants to make it big, already taken care of.

This is just like buying weed my friends. If you want to make some money, the plant need to grow first.. and it takes some time before you can harvest yur profit. Soo yeah lets just say that this week is a cloudy week, and plant need more sunny days.. this might happen next week or in 2 weeks when the sun will shine again. But still if the sun comes out in 2 weeks, weed will need to grow next few months..

@Longsnowsm Do claymores mine some rounds for the developers? Claymore dev may have solved your solo blocks.
The way Claymore does it is he has it hard coded so that at a certain interval it disconnects from my "pool or solo" and reconnects to a pool of his choice mining to his address. Then once he gets his 1% hash it disconnects and goes back to where you are mining. It reflects this as "devfee" hashes in the miner output. So he is mining to a pool so I don't think that should have affected my hashing or blocks. This evening I may try to setup the etherminer and run that for a day... If that doesn't work then I must have something setup wrong.

I think it is like hourly it does the devfee cycle. You might be right. I am going to just shut everything down for the rest of the day and will play with it tonight. Right now it is just burning electricity and getting me nothing at the moment. I will just take a "break" from crypto's for the rest of the day... Gotta get back to my "daytime job" for now! LOL
