The switch to PoS is due to the fact that PoW is unsustainable - those miners who have made massive investment in GPUs to-date are experiencing rapid diminishing returns with these DAG sizes - 'they may' swtich to ETC just to get a little more life out of their rigs, but there is no sense in them continuing to load up on hardware for ETH. ETC, if it has a future (which I doubt - it should not), will face the same need.

Those serious folks who wish to use the technology are not going to go with a bunch of opportunistic malcontents, they will follow those that created the tech in the first place. There is very little chance that ETC will overtake ETH in its current state/price/etc, and def not in the future, as the most capable developers will be working on ETH, and it will be there where the real advancements are made.

ETC is a short-term novelty that some have made a decent profit pumping and trading, but its end is nigh.

This is true as you cannot make money mining eth with a network of 5TH/s on the current PoW GPU algo unless the price rises.
This is to push people into PoS.  It is diffucult to scale up and is now as big as it can get.

PoS however allows you to scale further but is less secure because of the smaller number of validators and makes the system more centeralised.

The more i see the more i think a hybrid is the only way forward, moreover PoW is leading to some of the new breakthrough algos like PoC which gets past some of the energy and scaling problems of pure PoW.  Just imagine if any peice of kit with memory could mine, phones, ipad, laptop, desktop, server.  PoC can also be used as cloud storage space for smart phone dapps.
Everyone in the world could mine and stake a percentage of their coin and not just people who live in developed countries and have access to banking.

Yes the people who started it know best, thats why we like Charles, he is a good supporter Wink

Moreover:  Anyone can join Etc and develop.   Maybe some of Eth devs are Etc dev already as some of our devs are anonymous.  Maybe we have the Dao hacker, maybe we have Satoshi.  We will never know.  Devs are employed and paid by Etc Community and Ect Community is all of us that hold, mine or run nodes.   Wink

We hear the words "progressive" a lot, but it seems few really think about what that means.  ETH started off with its mission statement, core beliefs, and excited a lot of people to get involved based on those ideas.  However people still seem to use the word progressive even if that "progress" has left some or all of the core beliefs behind.  That isn't progressive, it in fact becomes regresssive.  I believe the ETC core beliefs are not malcontents looking for a fight, but those who feel the core values and mission are being lost so ETC was born.  We are now focusing on those core beliefs and development around those core beliefs.  We will not censor, we will not change the blockchain, we will not "be evil" in the attempt to do good and disregard our core mission or ideas.

@greenuser said it well.  We will not be sticking with a pure play POW or pure play POS.  Both methods consolidate too much power into select groups hands.  Over time it becomes unsustainable.  So the conversations are focusing on hybrid types of implementation.  There are those that are wanting to stay pure POW, but I think they need to understand why that is not a good idea.  So some education into the methods for implementation and why POW longer term will be a bad thing.  ASIC's will become a factor, consolidation of mining power in places where cost to buy and operate are cheaper start to dominate the network and power consolidates into fewer and fewer hands.  Same issue happens with pure POS, the power on the network consolidates to the wealthy.  Those that have to earn and use the coin will have a smaller and smaller stake.  To stake coin you typically have to be holder of the coin for a certain period of time to stake anything.  Those using the coin with limited resources will be at a severe disadvantage.

I also agree with @greenuser about the POC type of coins.  Anyone could be mining and staking even with typical devices that people carry with them daily.  Anyone, anywhere there is network access could be mining with very low cost devices that use far less energy.  I could see villages and communities setting a disk farm powered by solar and have income coming into that community.  These are accessible technologies that can be bought by people of even more modest means.  So I hope as this conversation continues we talk more about these ideas.

Right now the conversation seems to be directed to a hybrid POW/POS system.

I believe as we stick to our core beliefs that the original Ethereum will not only survive, but will thrive.  I cannot say that I believe that will happen with ETH.  The more people find out what has been happening with the theft of the DAO and the leaked internal conversations nobody who is investing or risking their businesses is going to trust these people with their money.  Don't like the outcome and have enough skin in the game to put pressure on ETHF and you can get a do over....  Not going to work,  Too risky.

ETC has a active and growing community.  We are excited about where this goes and what is happening.  Those wishing we will go away are going to be disappointed.  Maybe those people will one day realize that the token/coin they are supporting is really only about supporting itself and not about the community.   That is OK, ETC community will be here to welcome them.

Note For Traders

Only invest what you can afford to loose.  Remember, bubbles can pop!
Don't trade on emotion, only on mathematical theory / systems.
Do your “due diligence” research, research, research. (Is the commodity experimental?)
Spread your investment over a number of coins to “hedge your bets”
Think of going “short” to protect yourself from potential losses.
Do not trade with a loaded gun and a bottle of spirits/hard liquor in the room.
Crypto is high risk, have you tried gold or silver trading? forex even?
Ethereum Classic is a long term investment, look for quick returns elsewhere!
Perfect! every day i see people talking about how luck basead trade is, and how bad investment that is but the truth is: they dont know how to trade, they dont botter to learn how to trade, yet, they want to profit(and fast profit)...

The more i see the more i think a hybrid is the only way forward
totally agree, every coin adopting this hybrid choice is a good investment. it's how i see the future of cryptos.

I just got a message from "ocminer" who runs  https://etc.suprnova.cc/

"I am on vacation but of course the etc pool is running fine, still has all sorts of ddos protection and I get notified by sms  and mail as soon as any problems arise."

So all good with suprnova  Smiley  Enjoy your rest "ocminer", you deserve it!

I was mining ETC for 7-10 days. Had no issue mining there. Suprnova is one of my fav pool. Is there any possible threat or attack in ETC ? Have heard nothing about it although. Hope price will go up and will make some profit from mining

Hi Bitpop! Long time!

Guys you need a marketing re-brand. I cringe every time I hear the phrase "Eithereum classic". You guys arent "Ethereum classic". You are just Ethereum. They are the ones who hard forked. NOT YOU. Please stop calling yourself Ethereum classic and instead refer to this project as just Ethereum.

There is a problem with this you say? How will people know which Ethereum you are talking about. Simple. The guys on the fork should hence forth be referred to as "Neo-Ethereum".

Please. Spread the word. The guys who are actually Ethereum, real Ethereum, shouldn't be referring to themselves as "Ethereum classic". Do not let your opposition control language especially when you guys have the intellectual and moral high ground.

No body is in charge of ethereum classic, we have no leader.  We are all supporters.  The devs are employed by the ethereum classic supporters.
If you think ethereum classic needs a marketing re-brand you will have to join, fundraise and create a campaign and try get people to come on board with your idea,  there is no pleading to some higher entity here, we just don't have one.

We have decentralized governance model.  If you want to bring about change in this coin, feel fee, join our slack and make a go of it.  You will be made welcome.  However: no one has control, even some of our Devs are anonymous,  they code and get paid in crypto.
We could have anyone working for us, Eth Devs?  Dao hacker?  Satoshi himself?  We will never know!  Do we need to know if the code is checked and rechecked by different people?  So in someways we are like Bitcoin  Wink

The supporters own the coin.  Talk to them about re-brand

I thought I was the only one who thought so.
ETC really need to take back the "ethereum" name... let eth foundation rebrand.

but unfortunately, this is kinda already established, so it won't be easy.

I worry about ETC. It is like the miners are ready to right away dump everything they earn and when the price is now very low, they are also ready to leave and point all their power on ETH. Is there any update from Charles Hoskinson? What are they planning?
