Too expensive.

Solar costs pennies. Large scale batteries will cost pennies within 10 years.

As far as climate change goes, technology is going to sweep away the coal power plants.

Individuals are taking back their energy sovereignty.  Fuck Big Oil, Big Nuclear and Big Coal.

Only thing that can replace coal and oil is nuclear. It's a matter of energy density and cost of extraction.

Surely you have a gay frogs man video to back up your points?

hairy did you ever watch the gay frogs video link I posted?  Kind of not cool to ridicule something if you did not watch it Wink
He doesn't care. That's one of the main defining traits of lefties. They think reality is dictated by their personal emotions, not facts and evidence and cause and effect.

The true irony would be Scotland leaving the UK "because independence" and then joining the EU.

That's what they would want. The majority voted to remain.

All the talk of Churchill, 'winning' and 'taking back control' has been English. The English have saddo delusions of prior glory. Scotland wants to be small and prosperous. They've consistently aligned themselves more with Scandinavia.

Scotland has always been more intrinsically European. They actually like French people for starters.
The French are absolutely terrible people. Second worst people I have met in the entire world up to this point, only eclipsed by Venicians.

Energy density is irrelevant.

The big solar farms are coming - and they will export electricity into a global grid.

Australia is already planning to power Singapore with a solar energy via an undersea transmission line.  Just like the current fiber optic network, just ultra high voltage.

Haven't been in a talkative mood lately but just wanted to say @Last of the V8s, I feel for you man. I've lost many of my closest loved ones to cancer and its a real shitty thing to watch and be helpless to do a thing about.

From the article:

Quote
a 10-gigawatt-capacity array of panels will be spread across 15,000 hectares

That’s low energy density.  Energy density is irrelevant.

As of August 2019.

I love the green movement. Very Naive in terms of what resources will be needed to shift out of fossil fuels. Mining companies love the green movement. Australia had its first surplus in 44 years due to exporting natural resources. Yes coal will die and fossil fuels use will greatly diminish, however mining will boom for the transition materials required.

It is more than just Lithium. According to the CEO of Sandfire Resources , we will need 12 times our current copper usage. The list goes on into other materials such as rare earths.

Don't get me wrong , I am for the green energy movement.

If it requires 12 times the materials we currently use then it's not "green", WHATEVER people think that means, it's just wasteful.

And just because I know people keep forgetting, co2 is not a pollutant.

you keep saying it, but this particular meme had absolutely NO meaning whatsoever:

1. Your cells 'exhaust' CO2, hence the exhalation process. Exhaust is exhaust, no doubt about the meaning of it.
2. Yes, there were periods on earth with MUCH higher levels of CO2. We did not live on the planet back then, so we don't know if it was cozy or not.
3. Human brain can tolerate only certain level of CO2 before you would be losing large IQ capacity. These levels are not too much higher than current (maybe about a double).
4. Plants LOVE CO2. Yes, for them it is something similar to food. We are not plants.
5. Last, but not least, try converting a small amount of dry ice in a limited space into gaseous form (CO2).
Breathe it in, but first sit down before doing this because the result is unmistakable.
It is like a hammer to the brain. In fact, don't do this, really.

69. Plants need it to live. It is literally the beginning of the food chain.
70. Too much co2? How about too little? At what point do we have a planet wide biological dieoff? Sink some green bucks into that research project. Well, if the whole thing wasn't political to begin with, anyway.
