Ridiculous: Peter Schiff Lost Access To His Bitcoin Holdings

From Twitter:
Quote
I just lost all the #Bitcoin I have ever owned. My wallet got corrupted somehow and my password is no longer valid. So now not only is my Bitcoin intrinsically worthless; it has no market value either. I knew owning Bitcoin was a bad idea I was too stupid and incompetent to be able to handle a Bitcoin wallet and keep a backup of my seed, I just never realized it was this bad what the hell I was doing all this time, but it's all good because the coins I lost will make Bitcoin more scarce and the smart BTC HoDLers will all benefit!

FTF him.

Nice. Already 25% increase from the 15th-20th December. The next target 18th January. Maybe a day more or less. Will consider to take some profits.
Told ya! Target 18th January! It worked like a magic! JuanGee, do you believe now in this theory? Or still sceptical?

You are a fucking diptwat.

I will say that.. reason: because you mentioned my name  along with your stupid-ass numerology, phoney baloney.

You are just waiting to get fucked up the ass.

Bob has not been feeling too good recently, so if he does not want to sacrifice one for the team, we might have to find another willing one.. .    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
No, because you canot explain why is this stupid if it works?  Now it's the 2nd time in a row. That's not luck. I called only twice in 3 months, the bottom and now the top. Please explain why is it stupid?  I will shut my mouth when you guess the next bottom and the next top. But i don't think you have that knowledge or luck to giess that.

Let's say you come up with $1million as nice round number. Again, this could as low as $500K in some countries and just for a very modest lifestyle up to $5 million for US, with many years to live, and with a nice lifestyle.

Daym you need $5m to live in the US?

Wellllll...

The traditional financial advisor .. um ... advice is to plan on withdrawing 4% annually.

So 4% of $5M is $200K. Is that enough? Before taxes? It's an individual target.

Note that the 4% assumes normal retirement age and life expectancy. If retiring early or planning on living to 268 years of age, you might wanna reduce the percentage for calculation purposes.

I might have different assumptions about the traditional 4%, which I thought was meant to be a perpetually sustainable withdrawal rate because it is presumed that you are going to be able to average at least 4% per year returns (some years higher and some years lower).  So, 4% should even work for someone who lives to  268 years old.

Well, there are a lot of unspoken assumptions that go into the 4% figure. So, there are a lot of ways to skin this cat.

As for me, I value dollar-value a whole lot less than I value purchasing power. In order to be perpetual in terms of purchasing power, your return needs to outrun inflation by a factor of 4%. Which is a whole lot more than simple 4% per annum in dollar terms.

I would think that 'financial advisors' -- CFPs and the like -- have a fiduciary duty to forecast typical life expectancies into their recommendations. Accordingly, I believe the publicly broadcast 4% figure to factor in typical (e.g. 65) retirement, depleting all principal exactly by the day of expected death. Otherwise, their client would be 'leaving money on the table'. Literally. Plus, that is roughly the explicit disclaimer I have commonly heard attached to such advice.

But hey - it's just a wet finger held aloft in the wind. What is more important than the 4% figure is going through the exercise of deriving it, so you can tailor a plan to your own situation.

if you invest into [BTC - ed], you really do not need to diversify

Unless, of course, the next FOMO rally brings on Blockalypse ][, leading to incoming investors being literally unable to buy due to tx time and tx cost, followed by them redirecting their investments to chains that actually work.

I agree with description, but wallet management is tough, especially if you did not use the wallet for a few years.
We think that we remember/record everything right, but sometimes we make mistakes (especially if trying to memorize something).
Memory plays games from time to time.

Anyone who is interested in getting into BTC should get a hardware wallet and follow the instructions. Schiff wouldn't have had to tweet that if he had.

I dunno. If he can't retain a single password, how is he going to retain a 24-word recovery phrase?

Clueless!

BBC News - Bitcoin virtual currency reaches all-time high price
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21601608

remember this?

That was like 8 months before I started. On Oct 18th, 2013..sometime during the day, BTC was $150 when I looked. Smiley

I miss my Newbie BTC Youth! The thrill of being absolutely 'clueless' on wtf you were doing and still making out like a bandit!

KNC Jupiter Miner arrived on 0ct 18th, 2013. I got it sopping wet full of water and parts floating inside. Dried it out. It was $5,131.80 USD.

Tried to turn it on, IT CAME WITH NO FRIGGING SWITCH, I was utterly befuddled.

Emailed them got a prompt reply to use a 'paper clip' and short out the PSU leads to the

computer cable for power to a computer motherboard.

Sat there 'stunned!'

I mean really, I paid the amount above for this beastie and it does not even have a 'frigging' switch!

Closed my eyes, turned my head away for expected flash/explosion and of the certain 'bricking' of the device.

Worked fine, Ran like a top for a couple of years, till difficulty got to high on BTC vs electric. (considering BTC price now should have run it another 1/2 year!)

Best Miner I ever had par none for output and stability. Sometime during that day, I looked up the price of BTC it was $150 USD per BTC!

I think I made 1 BTC a day.

I 'long' for a return to those glory 'newbie' home mining days, but alas, they are gone forever.

Those were the days.
I had a pretty tidy return from this:

I bought 6 in all.

And then this:

Butterfly labs scam. I got a refund (i was a dumb newbie) and got the monarch upgrade because my 'supposed' 1-month arrival in June 2014 did would not have arrived

till Oct 31st, 2019 (got a jelly as the only thing left rather than count on a refund from BFL scum) so I was extremely lucky. ONE WEEK before the SEC shut down BFL they

tried to re-start refunds after 1 year late from when I was supposed to get my stuff...I was one of the few that week who got refunds ($8,230.00 something) (did I mention

I was a crazy newbie all in 3 days after learning about BTC?) after that week no more refunds in that to BFL's dismay the SEC shut them down. However, they let the BFL

corporation take the fall and got all the BFL owners got a nice BTC mining customers machines through summer and fall of 2014...Only fined $30k total for 3 I think individuals...nice scam

All the millions of BTC they got to keep! Because the corporation took the hit on all this, not the folks running the BFL corporation!

Anyway, I bought the KNC Jupiter on the 'slim' hope they were legit and somehow the end of 2014 'hoped' to recoup my BFL losses never to be seen again, I thought!

(KNChad line drawings on their order page for crying out loud) and so got way, way lucky.

Never buy an ASIC miner in the USA, the SEC will simply say after 1+ years 'what are you complaining about you got your device!...

damn, I was both stupid and lucky! Now I seem to have kept the 'stupid' part and lost all the lucky parts. Sad

So frustrating!

I lost all of the gold I have ever owned. My map showing where I buried it was destroyed and somehow when I dug down where I think the gold was it was not there. So now not only is my gold intrinsically worthless; it has no market value either. I knew owning gold was a bad idea, I just never realized it was this bad!

Ridiculous: Peter Schiff Lost Access To His Bitcoin Holdings

The popular economist and well-known nocoiner, Peter Schiff, has said that he’s lost all of his bitcoins because of a forgotten software. He took his rant to Twitter, outlining that the lost bitcoin has no market value, on top of having no intrinsic value as well.

BBC News - Bitcoin virtual currency reaches all-time high price
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21601608

remember this?

Clear as a bell.

It was a month and a half after I discovered Bitcoin and the price had already doubled as I gave myself a crash course in dual-key cryptography and Bitcoin history and realized it was not only NOT a scam but one of the biggest technological breakthroughs of our time.

I was drawn to the fact that it was decentralized, open-source, and peer-to-peer. I realized it could be to wealth what the internet was to information, a money superhighway so to speak.

I'd actually made the decision to buy and mine Bitcoin in mid-February but had wasted time transferring money to Paypal (no credit cards) to buy coins, foolishly not realizing that Paypal would have nothing to do with anything Bitcoin.

Then I realized that Butterfly Labs accepted Paypal so I spent my money on ASICs instead. That was about the time this article was written. I was promised delivery by May. LOL Who knows how many coins my miner had already mined by the time I received it in October.

By the time I had figured out how to actually buy coins anonymously, the price had doubled again up to $68 (USD and CAD were at par in those days).

My miner ended up mining me around 5BTC before becoming obsolete shortly after receiving it. If I'd bought bitcoins instead as originally intended, I would have gotten over 20 coins for my $650.

Oh well. Live and learn. At least it wasn't as expensive a lesson as MtGox teaching me to never use an exchange or otherwise expose coins to the internet.

Ahh. Those were the days. So much excitement and anticipation. Now I just sit back and watch the price like some kind of abstract sports score, buying or receiving revenues in Bitcoin whenever possible and selling only when necessary.

Living happily ever after is fun and stress-free. Thank you Bitcoin.

The more you speak, the dumber you sound.

There is no burden on me to show whether or not your stupid-ass assertion of a system that is based on the movements of planetary bodies works, but I am going to call it a stupid-ass system to the extent that you are trying to convince others to follow such astrological nonsense in their bitcoin choices.

Do what you want with your own investments into your likely mediocre amount of less than 1 BTC and your martingale practices.

I give less than two shits, except for your trying to assert that you have something of value, importance or insight that others should also follow.  The burden is on you, not me, and it continues to sound dumb as fuck to me, and I could give two shits if you end up being correct on the next 50 coin tosses, the success of your calling heads and tails does not mean that you know more than dip squat.

JayGee has aparently a prejudice about something he doesn't know.

You already explained your planetary bodies theory sufficiently in order to know that it is about as fucking dumb as they get.  I have heard enough astrology and other psychic assertions to know that there is no basis to your shadow watching and that you would be much better off if you removed yourself from the cave and started to attempt to make predictions based on actual meaningful evidence rather than shadows.

Maybe you heard from others that numerology or planets are pseudo science. You have been misslead.

I am not 14 years old.. I have been around a bit longer than that.    (Greta, is that you?)

I am also not a virgin, so I understand various aspects of sex and sexual interactions that come under a variety of courting circumstances....  shit can become complicated, so better not have no more sex because it gets complicated.  Much easier to just say no.  Agreed?

Peasants stay peasants unless they have a luck. So your only chance is to hodl because you don't have the knowledge. But you're lucky enough to be in btc.

I have many years of investing in a variety of assets, and when I came to BTC I already had a lot of years of investing and building up capital and various kinds of experiences.
When I got into bitcoin more than 6 years ago, I was able to employ some known strategies and also to learn a lot of new strategies, especially since I had not had so much ability to have access to 24/7 and either free or low cost trading, and of course, some of the trading options have changed over the years, but I have also been a lot more active with my bitcoin investment rather than other investments that I had, and overall bitcoin has had considerable exponential growth and a lot of volatility, that I have witnessed through those years and while actively watching it and investing into it.

Admittedly in my first couple of years, I was mostly focused on accumulation and buying on dips, so any time that I sold BTC in my first couple of years resulted in almost immediate replacement, but starting in about late 2015, I began to expand some of the timeline in which I replaced my sales, and employed a lot of other tactics in order to attempt to increase my preparations for BTC price movements in either direction.. both emotional and financial preparations.

In the end, my systems and the building upon systems do not rely on short term predictions or making those kinds of predictions, and I tend to enjoy criticizing when others attempt to put too much credence into their systems - which your nearly baseless system clearly falls under an absurdity category, and what is even more absurd is that you continue to try to spout it out.. for what purpose?  Who knows?  You just want to be famous?  You want a following for your sorcery?   Keep making your predictions?  Maybe you should describe your bitcoin buys and sales too?  Are you gaining more BTC?   What else is going on in your investments?  How is your cashflow?  your view on bitcoin as compared with other investments?  Does that matter?  How about your timeline?  Do you have other investments or are you trading everything on Gann theories?

Ultimately, I anticipate that you do not have very much money, anyhow, so it probably does not matter too much what you are doing, because you do not have much to lose.  You believe that you are going to plan this way for your whole life, but by the time you are in your 40s, you are going to be a total fucking wreck, unless you fix your ways.. but no, you know everything because you are young and you have a lot of ideas that you want to share.  Problem is that those fucking stupid ass planetology ideas do not work, even if they sound all woo woo... and  by the time you figure it out, it will be too late and you will be fucked.

In other words, better that you attempt to learn now, rather than spouting out your woo woo nonsense and actually following that bullshit...

Get some better and more solid plans about how to approach matters, and maybe attempt to have sex too... it is a pretty fun little hobby having sex, but I do understand that you might not want to have sex with just anyone.. especially the first few times.  Good luck and report back when you fixed some of this nonsense going on in your life, your thinking and likely negatively impacting on your finances too (even if you might not realize it now (regarding your finances), you will in the future if you don't start to take meaningful measures as soon as your lil pee wee brain can start to appreciate more complicated ideas in life).

Sex is a puerile and animalistic urge that causes nothing but trouble. I had sex once. Or at least that's what they told me it was.

I've scoured the internet and couldn't find anyone doing what I did. Everyone else looks like Daddy unblocking Mummy.

Look, just remember to rotate the cricket bat counterclockwise, and make sure the rodents of choice are nice and healthy ahead of time. That's the summation of all I've learned in nearly 4 decades on this earth.

I dunno. If he can't retain a single password, how is he going to retain a 24-word recovery phrase?

exactly. 24 words written on the enclosed paper...someone was recently checking the wallet, left it on desktop....cleaning lady was vacuuming, piece of paper flew down on the floor, she puts it in trash. Several days later.."where is that very important piece of paper that I left right here?
"I dunno, mister, I clean".
