What we know so far: All legendaries have 1000 merit, all heros have 500 merit, senior members 250, full members 100, members are at 10, and newbies are at 0. What we dont know yet: Much nore. Theymos seems to be in the progress of integrating the merit system. I'm sure he will make an explained announcement and update about it once he has fully activated the system. Here it is: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

Jr Members can no longer have signature links.
Can you please confirm theymos whether the removal of signature links for Jr members only applies to all current and future members whom have not yet reached junior member rank? Or are current junior members with signatures having also having this privilege revoked? Cheers

You can be a junior member without having any merit point but in order to have a member rank you need at least 10 merit in addition to the required number of posts.

whether the amount of activity and merit also interrelated with the rise in rankings, when the number of activities has been reached then the amount of merit is not achieved whether it can rise the ranking.

This whole thread is a perfect example of why activity and post count should be restricted even further. Everyone talking in circles, asking the same questions, and posting garbage. The Signature campaigns have gotten out of control. Some of them are very lucrative but at what cost? Every thread is full of broken english, generic posts, and questions. It greats frustrating having to sift through so much noise. I've been a member of many forums over the years and never have seen people put so much stock into their "forum ranking." In most forums a high ranking means you have contributed a lot. Here it is almost meaningless. Without censorship I don't know how to combat this, but it seems like this should be a ban-able offense. Looking at the post activity of some members and its obvious that out of hundreds of posts they have contributed zero knowledge or insight, or have even asked a relevant question. 9 times out of 10, when you see a low quality post, there is always a signature advertising something underneath it.

Hello! Due to the current number of bounty campaigns around this question comes to my mind. Does this have an impact on a current signature campaign or should it has no effect on their current count?

When I registered here I had no ideas about forum status, member rank, forum signatures etc. I came here mainly to read the forum, obviously not to contribute high quality content from day one. That's what newbies do and it should be OK. After some reading in this forum, regardless the sub category, every newbie here gets the impression that forum rank is the most important issue and topic here. Of course now after a lot of reading I see the reason for that. I also get that all bounty and airdrop campaigns focus on membership rank and free stuff is just very attractive. Ironically for these campaigns that is an easy measure to get rid of all the newbies who are just here for free stuff and the forum itself has to deal with all the disadvantages of newbies posting for no reason just to increase their forum rank. The thing is that I have seen situations like that in connection with other communities and seen that limitations and increased requirements often make the problem even bigger. Unfortunately I don't have a solution for this, but maybe admins and the old and trusted forum population should find a new approach to keep this forum high quality, as rewarding the quantity of posts will drag down quality.

I don't like the low quality posts any more then anyone else, but it gets into a grey area when the forums start getting micromanaged. Like at what point do you have to be afraid that someone thinks your posting just to post? Do we have to be scared to quote something someone said and reply "Hell yeah!" under it because someone thinks we're trying to raise our post count? I've been coming to this forum for the last couple years, but I never registered until December. Actually the way I used it before that was to type questions about mining in Google, then when a result came up from BTT I'd choose the "see more from bitcointalk.org" link and go from there researching whatever problem I had. I was motivated to finally get off my ass and make a real account here as the result of a signature campaign, but I would say that's defintely not a bad thing. I know what I'm talking about at this point, (you probably didn't want to hear much from me for awhile when I was still learning anyways), I like to think I have meaningful contributions to discussions, and I've had some great conversations with some great people since then. With a forum related to something as international as Bitcoin there's going to be alot more people who don't speak great english too, and I feel bad for them also, as many of them probably have no ulterior motives for the less then clear and concise posts other then that they really don't know any better. I am glad that the forum isn't a free for all, and that there is accountability, and I do appreciate that alot of people are working really hard to try and make it better. It's definetly a double edged sword, I just always like to give people the benefit of doubt, and I believe that most people are good, they just usually don't have a chance to be or they have been burned so many times they become jaded. But goodness is like a root. A little water and you got some fresh sprouts.

In other words anyone can put a hyperlink in his post's text but junior members and lower ranks couldn't put this hyperlink in their signature space.

You just got one merit I've been here for rather a long time. And, like you, I lurked even longer than that. Despite real life experience, gmaxwell even called me the "voice of reason" at one point. Something I'd never been accused of prior to Bitcointalk But I digress. Guys like you, and I, were far more common about 4 years ago. Then BTC and other Cryptos got to the edges of the mainstream, and we have gotten a steady stream of people (young, I'm guessing), who, for lack of a better way to put it, are a waste of carbon. I'm not talking about a new guy with something to say who just does it wrong, I'm talking about people trying to raise their post count simply by, well, posting. Nothing. Sometimes literally an asterisk. At the same time, the moderators were implementing rules that seemed to target actual content instead of the vague idiocy. I know from talking to them that this was not actually the intent, but it came off that way. I think this system makes more sense, to be honest. Not sure how it'll play out, here in Mos Eisely, but it's certainly an improvement!
