RX470 rigs are still difficult to upgrade, tbh, as it's impossible to get as much bang for the buck currently... And they're still chugging along nicely. I've been contemplating a Vega56 rig for a while but I just can't seem to make the step. Mostly for logistical reasons... But time to breakeven is definitely a big factor.

Vega at this point only seems to be good with Monero - and only then on Win 10 as the bloody blockchain driver needed to get good Monero hashrate DOESN'T WORK on Win7.
(Perhaps LINUX, as I think AMD finally got around to updating the LINUX driver).

Thank goodness I didn't get my Vega 56 card with the intent of mining on it.

yeah... XMR is what I ran my 470 to Vega-56 ROI scenario on as it appears Vega can get close to 3x the hashrate of my 470's on Cryptonite algo.

Assuming I could get $200 each for my 470's and replaced them with 4 Vega56's, I figure my ROI at only about 60 days.  That is also assuming a total at wall wattage of 1KW for the 4x Vega's.  Anyone here know if that is close?

I'm assuming that I cannot go any higher than 4 Vega's mainly due to lack of extra 8-pin PCIe power connectors. My 1200W PSU only has 4 x2 so if both power ports need to be filled on Vega's I think this would be limited to 4 of them. But, if those 4 will take anywhere close to 1000w then I wouldn't have enough headroom to add a 5th Vega anyway.

This isn't quite a no-brainer yet but if XMR were to have a few more good days and hold, it's probably a worthwhile endeavor... at least on 1 of my 4 rigs to start.

Eh, 3x 470's?  Not really, but at least 2.2 - 2.4 and slightly less power draw when set up right.  You do need both power ports filled on the top of the Vega, but you can get Y splitter cables that plug into a 6-pin and then branch out to (2) 8 pin connectors.  Three Vegas will mine 5,600/5,700 and draw under 600 watts from the wall, so a fourth should not take that over 1K. I personally would not add a 5th to a single 1,200w PSU though.

Been testing the limits of the m12 onda b250 .

It will do eight cards 1 short  7 full size .

Eight 1070s ran well
Seven 1070s and one 1080 ti

Will not run two 1080tis with six 1070s

At the moment I run it with the short slot empty .

Two 1080tis
Five 1070s

Does about 3655 sols. This may be the max.  Close to 1000 watts.

I have a throttle issue with it. When I go to 2 1080tis and 6 1070s

I believe it is deliberate the mobo protects itself from melting the three molex and three sata.

Still it is a good board.

Just has a power limit close to 1000 watts.

I will be testing the other boards throghout the next week.

I don’t think any of these boards are meant to do 8 1080tis

But 8 1070s yes.

I myself may consider an 8 GPU 1070Ti rig pretty shortly depending on how many weeks i'm up here working right now.   I'm across the state being a hired hourly person for several weeks.....   Just the thing I needed at this time of the year to get that extra bit of cash to go over the top once again....  I'm self employed, so that entails a lot of caveats...

My whole deal is I want to be able to fit the 8x 1070Ti rig in a 4U slot in my shipping case;  This will be perfect to fit in there with my rosewell, the internet/network server, and storage array (I got 2x SCSI Raid arrays populated with drives with both cases;  as they were originally each portable 16 channel TV live playback/recording/rebroadcasting stations... so im going to play with this fast storage media for a while)  Soon to be used to test the viability of a gas generator to fuel the operation so to speak.

I shared this in yun9999's thread - sharing it here.

I use a lot of Deltas, so far no problems.

I hang them (with s-hooks) with exhaust pointing upwards.

This way I can push hot exhaust air upwards.

Very effective.

Those cases I pictured are being retrofitted for outdoor use.   I will have one major exhausting fan on the rear case door, and a filtered input on the other door of each.  Ill work out attachments for managing heat away from the boxes if/when they end up indoors.

I need to be able to fit this format in my satellite systems for portability....  Cause I will have some odd space restrictions from where I'll be renting to expand the gorilla farm; but when rent is going to be less than $300/mo, which each rented space includes a 30-50A 220V power hookup....

I need not say more..... or rather shouldn't.... lol!

Hey guys, I would like to replace my bedroom electric heater with a mining rig almost 100% silent, but able to provide heat of course!

With nowadays available parts, what would you build from scratch ?

How much heat wattage you need? 100% silent would be difficult, think about watercooling, and a very big radiator. Maybe from a car? Wink
