Just curious who sidhujag is?  He made a lot of changes in July 2014.

What was the final decision on a mandatory transaction fee?
0 IXC, .001 IXC, .0001 IXC?

I noticed your screen shots show a .001 IXC fee.

Hey Kraizi,

more good questions...

'sidhujag' is a lead developer on DVC, at the time Ahmed forked a copy of his work, as a starting point for porting Ixc into the 0.9.2 codebase.  We had both been looking around and agreed it was the best starting point then in early Aug, I think it was.  By the end of Aug, Ahmed had stripped the DVC specifics and had a working build that ran on the Ixcoin network, but looked and acted every bit like the Bitcoin 0.9.2 client, the basic components for auxpow code is there to implement merged mining, but that is as far as Sidhujag and the DVC team had gotten.  It was at that point, Ahmed was time-wise taken off our Ixcoin project to work on other things, in particular I think he would tell you its been the PolyMYR pool software development, a really advanced new concept in merged-mining IMO, just read that whitepaper myself the other night, you can find it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1R78lUtwnVB9o0CZpYnxWDSyZP-adgfcN4yfu1PM8jzQ or visit http://myriadplatform.org/polymyr/ for a short description.  At that point you'll know as much about it as I do.

Anyway, realizing how important these different project were to one another, I stepped up and started building source and compiling changes, learning to use GitHub, completed allot of the loose ends through Sept, pretty much brings us up to today.  We've had numerous discussions on here about the transaction fees, I've argued we need to force them higher or at least enforce them, however Ahmed comes from a mining background and seems little concerned about there being any fee changes at this time, CEX.io has pledged their support & sets on the Ixcoin Foundation board, also seems little concerned over there being transaction fee changes at this time.  This still makes no sense to me, and to answer your question, the decision was to leave the transaction fee calculations alone, so they operate just like Bitcoin.

Regardless, I've been looking at the code, thinking about how to make changes to the transaction fee routines, it's actually kinda complex, but from where I set, it's an inevitable change that we will have to be making.  The example you see from me, is because I set it to 0.001 on my options page, and I doubt that I'll ever expect a miner to carry my payload for less than that, pretty darn cheap, from my perspective and I'm not going to be changing it to zero, just to see if a can get the transaction to go through for less, in fact after the last block is mined, I'll probably change it to a higher value, although I'm not certain yet what that might be, it most definitely will be part of our ongoing discussions here in the months to come.

For the time being the speed with which I'm seeing transactions being processed over the Ixcoin network right now, combined with what is basically 'near' free transactions fees could mean that Jumbley has it right: Build it and the people will come!

@Ahmed - correct my if I'm wrong on any of that, but I think it pretty much covers it.

nice to see the necessary changes were made !!

i looked over the commits / looks solid

i know the btc team has multiple people build their exe files from source / when i get a chance i will complete a second build

i assume all the latest tools were used (as suggested by nitrogenetics directions) i would use for bitcoin / just let me know if you used older versions of anything. will complete in a few days.

on another topic, price  I am so tired of everyone ranting and raving about the price of btc.

Vlad pointed out correctly that the price of iX seems to be holding up pretty well right now.

Someone else pointed out that once ix coins are mined out (I am expanding on it a bit here) basically most of the pending 'aggressive' legislation like in New York state and other places would become a moot point. (most not all since once all the coins are mined it removes mining from the landscape)  interesting thing to ponder.  I guess if crazy laws went into effect that would shut down mining or try to shut it down bitcoin will not change nor should it.  I could see all kinds of other alt coins trying to fork thier codebase or such to just end mining. In the end I don't think the very aggressive legislation will pass at least in the United States and if it did it may be later overturned on appeal.

Finally let's not forget, about 18 months ago bitcoin jumped up to over $30 ..... and honestly for me I was pretty amazed at the time.

I do not feel any pitty for people who purchased bitcoin and are holding it at a loss now.

Getting back to the original whitepaper bitcoin was designed with specific goals in mind.

It has been pretty successful at those. One of those goals was NOT to give 'speculators' something to invest in to make a profit.

If you did, good for you. It is still possible to support cryptocurrency to help solve some important problems in the world and help yourself out too.

For the people that only want to help themself and to all the (sorry I have no other word for them) morons who have been attracted to the scene since the price got over $100 my feelings are this---

If bitcoin has to go on sale for a while and one of the results is it 'flushes out' the trash --- I am all for it.

I think the future of bitcoin, Ix coin and several other alt coins is promising.

There will be a lot of time to weed out the garbage, inferior technology and flim flam artists.  The sooner the better for all the decent and talented people involved with different projects who do care about more than thier own personal bottom line.

IXCoin and I0Coin are both looking good because they mint so few coins. If minting none at all does turn out to be a problem (when IXCoin stops minting), then there is always I0Coin chugging along at low minting rates.

As for keeping all the merged mined coins up to date, lets not forget GRouPcoin, CoiLedCoin and GeistGeld, eh? All of those just keep churning out coins, like DeVCoin does, so watch DeVCoin to see whether price can be sustained despite never-lowering amount of minting; if it can, then these three should eventually start to come to more people's attention...

...GRouPcoin (GRP) is merged mined at mmpool.org but as far as I know there is no exchange that carries it yet, despite Vircurex supposedly planning to add it long long ago. It would be nice if they would, in the long run it'd be nice if one could trade all the merged mined coins there. CoiLedCoin (CLC) and GeistGeld (XGG) are not merged at any public merged mining pool that I know of, so are excellent bonus coins for anyone who does their own merged mining. They too are not on any web-based public exchanges yet that I know of.

Just confirming that ixcoin's subsidy rate will drop to zero very soon. I'll continue supporting it on mmpool.org when it does. Are there any changes planned to the coin in the near future?

Over 400k ixc traded in the last 24h on Cex.
There is even a block of 500k at 0.000138 0.000142 0.000175 btc
500k is  more then 2%! Hope an investor will take it.

Those sell orders are gone.  Completely.

I just looked and there are now only about 10,000 total ixCoins for sale at any price on CEX.

Like I've said before - I think there are a lot of games being played on CEX.

The market is definitely heating up.  And the difficulty is higher than ever.   What does all this mean?

Hopefully it means it's gonna be nearly impossible for any investor to buy any alts in any real quantity from here on out.

And hopefully it means that with zero inflation the price will start to sky rocket.

But for that we need an uptick in demand - a catalyst.  And we have to wait until after the mining is complete to get that.  Well, if we get that.

We may have a few really scary days when mining is done next week.

Not true.  CEX is the biggest merge mining pool and they will be merge mining IXC.

I'm speculating there will be fees to be collected by miners in the near future from iXCoin transactions.

I use p2pool to mine BTC, LTC, GRP, DVC, IXC, I0C, CLC and XGG all at once.

But, when I got my first Neptune miner, I thought the miner was broken because I could only get one terahash. Switching to mmpool I got 3.4 terahashes. So even using a nice server for my p2pool and spreading my altcoin daemons across three servers I somehow was not able to get my full hashrate.

Thus I now point my Neptunes at mmpool and just use my Saturn and some butterfly labs miners to mine at my p2pool.

I'd love to find out how to "fix" my p2pool though to make it able to handle Neptunes. I wonder if using solid state disks would help? Hmm...

Yes, the win32-setup I built didn't have the 9/28 updates, so tonight upgraded miniupnpc to the latest, and QT to 5.3.2, rebuilt the source and everything went smooth.  Should be good to go with the latest toolchain.

@mmpool - Fantastic to hear we have more miners supporting Ixc, really important right now, thanks for posting!  Cool

Using SSD's won't help I'm afraid, the Neptunes are known not to be p2pool compatible. There is a shortage of hardware that works efficiently with p2pool atm. Currently, the only miners of any size that are p2pool friendly are all Spondoolies units & the Bitmain S1's & S3's. I have had Bitmain testing the S4 on my p2pool node - it's an abomination, like the S2 was, but worse  Sad. Technobit have told me that they are working on a firmware fix for p2pool, but I'm not holding my breath.... Wink

I'm just curious,  if you have your own p2pool then I gather you aren't mining in some other pool and therefore equivalently solo-mining?     Or can you connect p2pool to another pool?
