Develcuy, I was wondering if you could post the steps again for getting involved in your Steemit project. I'm hoping to start writing there again and it would be nice to get the boost, as well as give others a boost.
Also.... ctya, Unthinkingbit, I am trying to sync my wallet and it's getting hung up on block 319999, 7 days ago. This is the first issue I've had with this wallet recently. Do I need to upload different receiver files? Let me know ASAP as for all I know, I may be part of the problem.
Update: I shut down my wallet and then tried to restart it, and this time the error message I get is "failed to connect to best block." So... I officially have wallet problems. What should I do? The first thing I'll try is to download the entire block chain from the beginning, but I won't start that until tonight. Please let me know if there is anything else I should try first.

The wallet problems seem to be related to the most recent receiver file updates. Not all of the receiver nodes have updated. We need more nodes in the wallet. I have issued a pull request for develcuy at the GitHub official repository. Once the code changes are pulled in I should be able to compile a Windows wallet that should fix all of the syncing issues. CTYA

It definitely has been a while...

Thank you for the update ctya x I will wait patiently, sorry I seem to have jumped the gun a bit. Also: Is a node something I can offer? My understanding is that it is simply a computer connected to the network that verifies the blockchain? (excuse me if I have the lingo/terms wrong, I haven't looked this far into it before) Happy to help out if this will be any use, I have a computer connected 24/7 On Steemit, I signed up but am waiting to sort the wallet issue before I proceed.

An open, running wallet is a node. Nodes can leave and rejoin the network at will. Upon reconnection, a node downloads and verifies new blocks from other nodes to complete its local copy of the blockchain. Simply open a wallet on a computer connected to the internet and you have a node.

Remember that we have a dedicated domain, dvcnode.org, whose purpose is to provide links to stable nodes, and that it does so by pointing the hostnames dvcstable01, dvcstable02 etc to such nodes.
I used to have three nodes on there, dvcstable01.dvcnode.org, dvcstable02.dvcnode.org, and dvcstable06.dvcnode.org, but then I lost my hosting and have so far only set up one new server with a new hosting-provider, so right now I only have dvcstable01.dvcnode.org up and running. I am happy with my new hosting provider though so am thinking of asking them if they can provide two more servers both independant, that is, located in different datacentres with different power sources etc so if one of their datacentres goes down the others should not.
I am wondering whether the other stable host names are still pointing to valid stable servers or not, as it seems like a long long time since I was last asked to update any of those hostnames.
I also wonder if those hostnames are still built into the source code, I think we used to have dvcstable01 through dvcstable10 hard-coded.
Since I seem to be seeing reports of recent wallets not being able to find any connections I am thinking hmm how come they cannot at least connect to dvcstable01 since as far as I know that host has been up reliably for a long time...

Hi Mark, Can you tell me how to connect to that node? Is this something I can do manually?

Thank you for the explanation, I need simple explanations I have had my wallet open for about 5 days now but as it cannot find a connection it isn't "running" as such so it isnt operating as a node... catch 22 again. Back to patiently waiting for CTYA to work his magic

I confirmed this! It is working now. If you start with an empty wallet, you will sync to present day. CTYA

For developers, competition in the market now is a great opportunity, but it is also dangerous everywhere. Can DevCoin stand out from the crowd?

I am not sure if I must be doing something wrong? I have a new install, empty wallet and still it says no block source available. Sorry to be a pain but can you advise what I should do next?

Sorry to be a pain but can you advise what I should do next? no pain at all! If you installed devcoin on this machine previously, you should find the location of the devcoin software and remove the directories in that folder For example, on my Windows 10 machine, Devcoin was at c:\users\ctya\appdata\roaming\devcoin So I made a backup of the wallet.dat in that folder, then deleted the contents. Finally, once that directory is clear, start devcoin.exe again and you should start syncing. As an alternative, installing the Windows wallet from devcoin.org on a machine that has never had the Devcoin windows wallet before seems to also work well. CTYA

Would it work if I deleted everything but the wallet.dat file? I'd like to preserve my wallet file. However, if it truly has to be an empty wallet, I could at least sync up the block chain and then swap in the original wallet.dat. Would that work? Or would it be better to just import private keys into the new wallet? I'll be setting this up for tonight, so my wallet can be downloading the blockchain at night and not holding up my computer activity during the day. Please advise on the best pathway. Thanks

Thank you so much for the reply. That I know how to do (and have done many times). Just so I know I'm on the same page, do I run the exact same wallet software that I currently have, or has there been an updated version I need to upgrade to?

Any devcoin software version should work if you remove the content of the subdirectories first. I tested a couple on Windows and Linux and they all synced well.

So there is no updated version of the DVC wallet? That is what I'm assuming. I'm running the same wallet version I've had for years. It's about halfway through downloading the blockchain. So far so good.
