URGENT!!!!!

Has anyone else just seen a 25% drop in PPS?  I'm getting this on every single machine/VPS I have running.  Happened in the last 30 mins.  Perhaps due to the >8.0 diff increase?

Yes pps dropped even more than 25% on my rigs.

Jumping to difficulty 8 makes the mining algorithm do more work. That's why PPS numbers are dropping. We'll have to see what happens to block rate.

I haven't looked at the code but I think that the diff is controlled by the length of the primes.  Since we've just hit a new whole number on the diff, I suspect the code now needs to search a significantly larger number of primes.  I'm actually seeing about 30-40% drop now Sad

Maybe we'll stop having a block per second now.
I think that can only be a good thing.  I'm glad for getting more blocks in the last 12 hours with this version, but the effect on the price is obvious - 30%+ drop

I can confim, that both my Windows and my Linux versions show an approximate 30 % decreased PPS rate.

Referring to Sunny King's paper (and hoping that I understood that part Wink ) a difficulty increase from 7-something to >=8 means that the prime chain length has been incremented by 1.

Although I don't know where the PPS rate is derived from, I assume the drop of the rate has to do with the difficulty increase to 8. But I'm not skilled enough in programming to find the place in the source code where the PPS rate is generated and what variables are taken into account...

I'm sure it's been looked at already, but I wonder whether the code doesn't even attempt to find primes with chain length of 7 now.  I hope it skips them out otherwise it's doing unccessary work.

Maybe we'll stop having a block per second now.

Looking at the information panel of the qt help window, I just counted 10 blocks in 40 seconds Sad

might want to check you're not on a forked chain.  Maybe delete and redownload the blockchain.

Yup, blocks are being produced quite rapidly. Also difficulty seems to be climbing pretty fast. It just hit 8.1.

I am using two similar Core i3's. One running WIn 7 32 bit on 4threads is giving 700 pps while the other running Win 7 64 bit on 3 threads is giving 1.5k pps.

Seems that the x86 version is lagging in performance.

Same here, but I've gotten two blocks since the drop, which seems luckier.  I wonder how the difficulty gets calculated if not by PPS.  Because a network wide PPS drop you would expect a diff drop too. I derped, per Aggro's post below.

Edit: in another thought, the difference in diff rise between releases of hp1 and hp2 indicates clearly that hp2 is doing better.

difficulty depends on how many blocks are generated ( 4-6s for now)

I wonder if a big botnet or some rogue sys admin with 100s or 1000s or good machines has jump in. Difficulty is already 8.35.
