I really don't think Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin's dominance in terms of coin price but in market capital its possible. Today Bitcoin drops badly and the longest correction time in the history. Unlike correction events in the past, it only last for a week then rise again like a sky rocket.
Today Ethereum is also in the stable mode, it hasn't increase since the start of the correction last December 22nd until now.

Cryptocurrency volatility is indeed unexpected that no one can forsee the real convergence of the market and Bitcoin is not guaranteed as holder of the number one seat as the highest market capital of Cryptocurrency world as time shifts.

Bitcoins will reach their maximum and a lots of ppl will certainly get rich on them. But in fact it seems to me the Ethers are more progressive and I would prefer to invest in them than in the old cryptocurrency.

Guys, lets be honest... We cannot foresee the future! ETH has what it takes to seriously diminish BTC's dominance but a lot of factors have to combine in a favorable way for that to happen.

That's not gonna happen. If some coin will overtake Bitcoin it will be Cardano, but that won't happen anytime soon.

To make a forecast in the market of crypto-currencies is not realistic at all. But in my opinion the etherium will not overtake the price of bitcoin in 2018. At the moment, the etherium needs to catch up with the ripple for capitalization. And there will still be more than one such coins in 2018.

As much as I like ETH, I don't believe that this is possible. In the long-run (more than 5 years) - probably. Now, however, the probability is significantly low. BTC, regardless of its infrastructure problems and price drop, has proven to be the very FIRST cryptocurrency, thus, it won't fade away that quickly. It will keep its title at least for another 2 years. ETH has a huge potential, however, it is currently mostly used for ICOs and other tokens to be created.

I think it's not a matter of Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin or not. There are two different cryptocurrencies with different goals :
-Bitcoin as a store of value and a mean of payment
-Ethereum rather as a platform to create decentralized applications.

To my mind, i don't believe Ethereum will surpass Bitcoin which is far more mainstream than Ethereum.

There are absolutely 0 chances for ETH to take over BTC. After all these ICO's cooldown the marketcap of Ethereum will drop down dramatically. It's not even the best platform for tokens anymore, the blockchain constantly gets clogged. There are far better platforms for tokens nowadays and people will figure that out soon. Go do some research before talking about things that you have no clue about.

What a harsh answer, but somehow, I agree. I think even if Eth is one of the strongest altcoins around with a promising value that would take the same path as bitcoin took during it's starting stages. There is no crypto around that would really have that massive push to overtake bitcoin. For right now, the price point is way different. Also, more and more people are beginning to recognize bitcoin, and it would take them some time to explore other facets of the cryptocurrency market such as altcoins.

ethereum seemed like the best alternative and promising coin compared to bitcoin before, however, it looks like it has become same old currency like bitcoin. yes they are both powerful but there are lots of promising and easy transferable coins out there.

I think though ethereum being an alternative coin but to beat bitcoin is very difficult, because the position of ethereum is currently under bitcoin and can only be under bitcoin.

In my opinion, Eterium will not overthrow Bitcoin from the first place. Yes, certainly, Eterium is growing in price, but it is unlikely to overtake Bitcoin.

there will be posibilities for eth to take bitcoin price in th future. there even a possibility that ripple xlm to take over bitcoin place cause i dont think bitcoin have any value in future. what matters now is which altcoin will be in the top in 2018, as we knew now ethereum place been taken by ripple. so i wonder which coin would able to defeat ripple.
