Gridcoin? More like Greedcoin

...? Greedcoin...?

This is a coin that rewards you for contributing computing power to scientific and technological advances...

Far less greedy than buying and selling bitcoins/alt-coins purely for profit... Other than being a decentralized currency (which Gridcoin ALSO is) what are Bitcoin and 99% of the other coins really contributing to the world...?  Roll Eyes

Is there a way to git clone this without having to download the 150MB of useless binaries?
Yeah, we need to mark those binaries as gitignore; I have about 9 items on my list for the holiday; Ill try to remove those later tonight -
Bob - I will upload the latest after I fix the gitignore flags-

Not worked on windows 2012 server x64. Bad. Mining console doesn't appear
Konfet-

Try downloading, unblocking the download as safe, install as admin, close gridcoin, reinstall the MSI, click Repair Gridcoin, then finish and re-launch as admin.
I think it might work on 2012 x64.

If it does not work, give us the reason and the logs, thanks

On windows 7 x64 even with boinc_7.2.34_windows_x86_64.exe started normally and show BOINC utilization.
So on windows server 2012 it's started, but the popup windows on "mining console", "email center" "project console", "sql query analyzer" not shown. Of course i installed, reinstalled both GRID and BOINC many times, started it with admin rights (local admin, domain admin). It's not showing windows. Used both RDP and local access.
Also i didn't find point 9 ( http://www.gridcoin.us/download/GridCoinMiningInstructions.pdf ) in program started on windows 7 x64.
And now, please say what files, logs should i give to you ?

ps: other coin wallets started and worked normally.
pps: if you cannot connect with your project manager or if you have such error: "Scheduler request failed: Error 417"; try add file cc_config.xml, containing
Code:
<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
</options>
</cc_config>
in your BOINC DATA directory.

Good idea. I see Gridcoin just posted there and I did one.

Not to nag, but would you add us to some team challenges at WCG and/or BOINC-BAM? Only the team captain can do it. I'm pretty sure we'll win a few, even at this early stage. Thanks!

Hey!

Been playing around with Gridcoin, my first attempt at mining cryptocurrency, and I found a bug with the cgminer instance config generation. I described it over here and will try to summarize it:

Here's how the configuration panel looks in gridcoin-qt:

https://i.imgur.com/3IjiHHP.png

After creating the cgminer instance, cgminer wouldn't start. Here's some info:

Code:
cgminer.exe -c cgm0 -T
 [2013-12-29 23:33:00] Started cgminer 3.4.0
 [2013-12-29 23:33:00] Loaded configuration file cgm0

 [2013-12-29 23:33:23] No known USB devices

After doing some research, I fixed the problem by manually changing the "gpu-platform" setting in cgm0 from 0 to 1.

Hope this helps anyone else having this problem and that there will be a fix in the config generation in an upcoming version of Gridcoin (recreating the instance sets the setting back to 0).

Oh and happy new year!

Anyone having trouble with the boinc processing power number:

50% weight goes to the"Boinc Avg Daily Credits":  if you are lower than 1000,that is the culprit and is dragging down your total.  To get to 100, you need to increase those.

Other technical solutions:

-Ensure you are running gridcoin as admin
-for a very rare issue when performance counters are corrupted:
lodctr /r
from the command prompt
-Try adding projects such as milkyway, world community grid, rosetta

The system is working for 100 users, so rest assured the problem can be solved.

Thanks,
Grid

i'm not sure i have undestand well: if i want 100 Boinc processing power, i need to increase my Boinc Avg Daily Credits. Now i have 300 Boinc Avg Daily Credits...if i get 1000, i will have 100 Boinc processing power? and to get 1000 i have to use boinc for more hours at day?

thanks!

Super, thanks. I answered you there.

Edit: Also - I think you picked a very good first challenge. It's in the future, so all teams start on an even footing, it will be over quickly, so you can see what the process is like, and (best of all?) there are some team names there that would make good headline material if we happen to beat them, e.g. "Tiny upstart Gridcoin team beats Chicago in its first WCG challenge".           Smiley

Looks like we did indeed beat Chicago! We came in fifth in our first-ever WCG challenge and even beat the challenge sponsor.

Hi Konfet,

I'm looking for some things that can cause it not to render the dropdown menus from the main screen, please have patience.... We'll have a release out later tonight that fixes a few unrelated things;
In the mean time to rule out this possible issue, try verifying the location of your boinc data & app folders and set these keys if they are different, and re-start:

boincappfolder=C:\Program Files\Boinc\
boincdatafolder=C:\ProgramData\Boinc\

Next, send us the Help | Information  client version and the
Help | About | Registered Version value

Thanks!

New Version Available:
Release Notes : 1.1.4.9/50/6.7.2: Install from MSI: Yes

Please delete c:\program files(x86)\gridcoin\*.* before installing; install from the MSI (our upgrader has been modified).

1.  Added capabilities to the auto-upgrader to upgrade any file in gridcoin
   & provide the ability to add new files & the ability to upgrade the upgrader.
   Designed to remove the necessity to install from the MSI in complicated circumstances.
   The Upgrader will now try to upgrade each file up to 6 times before failing (HTTPWebFailures).
2.  Moved the SQL database to the Data\SQL directory to avoid ReadOnly issues.
3.  To attempt to remove the heuristics cgminer failure, we now include cgminer_base64.zip as a base64 version of
   cgminer.zip.  Gridcoin will decode the base64 file before using it when creating a new mining instance.
   Note: You may replace cgminer.zip with your own preferred version of cgminer: Place it in the DataDir.
4.  Added checkpoints.
5.  Added homogenized utilization breakdown for easier tech support.  The "Breakdown:" value is located in the
   mining console near the bottom right.
    The first component is the processor/thread utilization and the second component is the avg_credit calculation.
6.  Modified the boinchash to include the necessary leaderboard fields: boinc_project_hostid,
   boinc_project_avg_credits, boinc_projectid, and boinc_project_name.  Also added the SQL table Leaderboard, so that reports can be written with the
        gridcoin network and boinc credit information.  The chain has been modified to store 3rd party security verification by one of the 60 public boinc APIs for future avg_credit verification.
7.  Added Copy-Paste capability from Query Analyzer and the leaderboard.
8.  Added the Leaderboard to the client (Main menu: Leaderboard).  This screen is designed to:
    * Collect global network project average credits so that we can calculate factors
        per project (done in a dynamic way, so the factors are not hardcoded in the client)
    * Compile a list of Boinc Leaders per project (GRC Address project_credits sorted desc)
    * Provide a report for visibility of the Global Network Statistics per Project and Public Factor values
    * Provide a report of GRCAddress Leaders for the network
    * Provide a report of GRCAddress Leaders per project
8b.  Note: The leaderboard contains test data; we will need to wait 14~ days for users to upgrade to this version and blocks to be solved and new data to be stored before we can start using the feature.
8c.  Anonymity Statement! : If you are feeling we are desregarding your privacy by creating the leaderboard please read the following statement:
   * The network avg credit factor per project is required for us to develop future enhancements to the subsidy algorithm: That is because the official boinc project credits vary wildly;
   therefore we need the network avg per project to implement future algorithms.
   * The Public GRC address in the leaderboard is stored so that we can apply 3rd party credit verification checks through the Boinc APIs (by other GPU miners),
   for the benefit of the integrity of the coin and exchange value.
   * The leaderboard does not collect or store any other information in the chain other than the extensions added in release note 6.
        As always your privacy is fully respected and we will not add any new features that disclose private information without being discussed and voted on that may result in positive benefits for the survival of gridcoin!
9. Updated the SQL replication engine to sync blocks faster (since we need the blocks to be synced to successfully test the leaderboard).
10. TribalBob, will you please test the virus scan again to see if the issue is resolved?  Thanks!
11. LennStar: CGMiner Invalid Count is already being updated: Mined Block number on the gui is not yet available.

Thanks and best regards testing,
Rob Halford

PS Removed the Git binaries.

PS II: If anyone downloaded 6.7.1 between 8PM-10PM CST (1/1/2014) please do an "upgrade" to 6.7.2. from the command line - bug fixed.  MSI updated: v6.7.2 is the latest...
