@wiggi:
I recently managed to sync the client by adding a few nodes.
It's a fresh wallet, but the crashing/freezing still is unbearable. I'm still a total noob on this so I won't use Mithril's client (fees?) but the freezing def has to go.

I guess it was a wallet issue. Mithrilman wouldnt openn (lost the fee transaction) and I had like 7k transactions, so I sent my coins to another wallet and started a new game wallet. So far so good. back in Mithrilman.

As for the new people, it's like 1 HUC/day to use the mithrilman client and well worth it.

You can be assured that I agree with you about the freezing, and will work on it in the future.  I've got quite some ideas for what to optimise.  However, you should be aware that Huntercoin is probably the single coin out there with the most "blockchain bloat" (possibly even more than Bitcoin) - just "by design".  I think that the original devs didn't expect it to be so bad, as this was intended mostly as an experiment.  Still, we're working on it.

For now, there are already some optimisations in the upcoming release.  But I'm concentrating on the disaster hardfork now, in order to combat crowding of the map and hopefully make the game more interesting again for humans to play (even with the presence of bots).  Afterwards, I'll concentrate on performance issues further.

Sounds good. I got my first teams out there and they basically sit on top of each other. All the coin spawn spots are simply spammed by people.
So it will be interesting to see what you come up with to make it more of a game.

I'm wondering about something else now though:
People mostly spam chars on coin spawn spots. They sit on each other and share the coin value.
That means they can indefinitely sit there, go back after 100coins or whatever and sit there again.

Doesn't this drive the price down like crazy? It doesn't take too much effort to do this. And with bots coming up you could probably make 1000 teams easily instead of manually clicking.

Still getting the mechanics, but that's my first impression so far.

with original client?
you then miss a lot like where an hunter is going or set composite path (multiple waypoint)
other then that, you are seeing the game from a wrong viewpoint. Sitting down on a coin spot is a way to collect (or at least try to collect) some coin, but then you need to bring it back to spawn area to bank the coins, and in the trip back you could be ambushed and killed.
This game isn't intended to be an AFK game where people position themself, log off then later send back the hunter to base, but it's a tactical game where fighting and cooperation should be the main strenghts

Bots invasion somewhat ruined this at the moment, and our efforts is to rebalance tha game to be as fair as possible (my way to achive this is developing my client, while coin devs are working on core aspects like disaster, etc..)

Imagine position yourself near enemie colors zone (or near coin areas), bring there 2 different colored hunters and coordinate your action in a way that with one hunter you blow enemies, and with other, positioned right and with the right timing, you grab dropped coin. then you need to defend the way back to home of course

with standard client, bots are a worse threat because you can't see where they are going while they can see your moves (it's all public on gamestate so it couldn't be hide in any way), thisi is why (well, not just for that) that i've created my client version, to give to everyone more insight about the game and plan better your moves (this means collect coins in your pocket!) so you have the same weapon bots have, with the difference that an human *should* be smarter then bots.

path visualization is just one of the added features (and could be used even to take advantage of bots attacks), there are already posts everywhere talking about other things.

about your price concern, you should think anyway that there are a constant flow of coins put on map every block, independently from how much players are on the map (plus the value of generals on the map), so the value of coins per se isn't affected by the playing style, rather than from how many human players are playing the game and investors invest in the coin, plus the value that the coin could have apart from the game itself (so merchandising, buyable goods, etc)

Perhaps some other programs using your disk too much. If you are on windows, the usual culprits (that need to be deactivated) are
'Windows search' and the 'Cache server' of antivirus software.

I've noticed it doesn't like cpu intensive stuff in the background..
I also got my first 4 teams killed. The one doing it got killed as well I believe (wtf) but hey first HUCs are gone.
Don't really know how to approach this.

It's way too slow to watch it all the time but there's too much happening to not watch it. No idea right now. Tongue

It is all strategy. As you said in an earlier post about sitting on coin spawns... there is much more going on than that.

Lets say you wanted to attack a red coin area. You position a few of your red guys around the perimeter of the area, then bring in some of your own yellow guys to the coin area and destroy whoever is sitting on the coin area. Then you take your waiting red guys and pick up all the coins left behind and haul butt to the spawn area to bank.

You can see this happening in almost every coin area right now.

Note if you "destruct" on somebody, you lose your player also. So you need to have another player standing by to get the coins, unless you are attacking for the sake of attacking.

Are there any HUC guilds or anything yet? Can I fund some teams that someone else will control, and they will give me some earnings or something? Anyone interested?

There are some united players from China that I know of.

What do you have in mind?

Some strategies right now are short lived with the upcoming changes.

I just have a bunch of coins sitting on exchange, wondering if there is anything I can do with them without actually trying to download and sync the client...I guess I should just download game/wallet and try it out.

Hello again guys,

I'm pretty sure there is a problem with building huntercoind on 14.04, I just noticed this on a new merge mine p2pool guide:

huntercoin - i get error at linking. will look into this as well [update: i see in huntercoin forums that others have issues compiling under 14.04 but there is no solution that I found yet. They say if you compile namecoin you are good to go. We apparently compile namecoin OK but doesn't work]

I've not seen or heard of anyone who has been able to build on 14.04 yet - all have the same problem - any ideas?

Have you been a victim of dogie insults, neg-rep'd for no reason or been falsely accused by him? If so, air your experiences here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=905210.0

Yeah I can compile namecoin and bitcoin fine. Devcoin, ixcoin too. thought I was doing something wrong. I should try an older version then? Where to find? 14.04 is the huntercoin version number?

HARD FORK UPDATE (update before block 255k ):

UPDATE - 1.0.11 Mandatory Update (HardFork)
WARNING - This update will rebuild some files (blkindex.dat and game.dat) - on some systems this may take several hours (if you are already up to date). The Process will also use up to 2.5GB ram. I'm Uploading chain for those that do not wish to do it
You can monitor debug.log or run the daemon with -printtoconsole=1 to monitor the process. Make a backup of everything first.

Remove unused data from blkindex.dat. It will be rewritten on first open and certain data removed. This should reduce blkindex by quite a bit - this process takes quite some time - maybe hours on some systems. For more information see:
http://forum.namecoin.info/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1757 This update also reduces ram usage significantly.
Implement "Cleansing" - aka Poison Disaster - Disaster will first occur on the Hard Fork Block. All Generals on the Map will be infected with a plague and will be given a random life span of 1 to 50 blocks. Following disasters can happen 1440 blocks (approx 1 day) after the last
disaster. There will then be an increasing chance of disaster maxing at 12 days.
Add Remaining Life Span to QT
Increase General Cost - 10 HUCs per General
Remove starting Hunters - You will start with only 1 General (you can still pickup hearts for additional Hunters).
Add toaddress argument to name_firstupdate -  can be used to assign a player to a specified address with firstupdate.
Implement name_update in createrawtransaction - can be used for atomic trading of names.
Various Performance Updates and Fixes (too many to list - see commits on github)
Add checks for valid player name in name_new
Add length check to IsValidPlayerName.
Add coinAmount field to players in game state
Add game_getpath RPC command - Create a new RPC command game_getpath that makes the internal shortest path algorithm accessible to front-ends.
