The problem with that is that they haven't done anything that would involve trading and Trust is meant to be a representation of your Marketplace Feedback. Theymos has pointed out that this, in his opinion, is an inappropriate usage of the trust system and probably believes more along the lines of what qwk has said; it would be evidence that the new system isn't doing it's job.
They're being public with their intentions and actions (for the most part). They're just playing petty politics in a disgusting manner. It is certainly harmful to the forum from where I'm standing, but in my opinion the most appropriate response would be excluding these users and allow the system to do what it is meant to do.
The problem with that logic is if this standard were universally applied, it would also apply to lots of people already on DT. Of course every one knows there are no such thing as rules that apply to everyone around here... It harms those of us who are in the middle like myself. I’m trusted by about 10 people. I put Lauda in my trust list & then BANG I check & I have 12 or so distrusting me. Ridiculous. Assuming you used loyce.club/trust for the data: last night's action didn't cause this. The data is based on last Saturday's data dump.
Also, please use the BBCode to copy trust lists to the forum, it's much better!
In which case there are probably more of the snakes distrusting me by now. Yes, but it should also be kept in mind these people are making a direct reaction so similar behaviors perpetrated by people on the DT list currently. Ignoring these people won't make them go away. The whole reason they are doing this is because people find it easier to ignore them than hear their grievances and they don't really have any other option than being disruptive. Frankly I think they did a good job demonstrating how crappy this patchwork of a trust system really is. We need a standard of evidence of theft, violation of contractual agreement, or violation of applicable laws for leaving negative ratings otherwise the entire trust system and all its ratings will become completely useless. At every stage Theymos says "lets see" and it blows up horribly, the people who it effects most get marginalized, and then it gets even worse, and another band-aid is applied. Time to rip off the bandaid before the limb gets gangrene Theymos. Set a standard of evidence for negative rating that is not subjective. Anarchy means without rulers, not without rules. In your quest for social experimentation with this community I think you may have lost sight of this.

It seems to me like that whole list of users (if each is actually involved) should just be permanently blacklisted and the problem goes away.

That seems excessive. They're insignificant to DT. I'm kinda curious what would happen if someone adds a million users to his Trust lists. That may mean a timeout on every page.

I agree the issue could be resolved with a blacklisting of those leaving garbage ratings.

I call bullshit on that; you know very well as I do that if I were the one to create such a shady thread that many wolves would wake up demanding that I be negged to the ground. The system did what it is supposed to, and that is to rate people that are shady which that bunch is. In no context is publicly advocating including scammers into trust lists trustworthy behavior.

It seems to me like that whole list of users (if each is actually involved) should just be permanently blacklisted and the problem goes away. Currently, theymos seems to believe that their so far level of conduct to muster a following and to spew what seems to be shittalk does not quite rise to the level of blacklisting, but those members could also be drawing attention to themselves in such a way that other behavior, if it happens, that seems merely inclined towards destruction to the forum could cause their behavior to go over the blacklisting threshold.

Presume you’ve been ‘distrusted’ by those 10 Merit noobs too JJG? At this time, I am considering just ignoring them, which seems to be the most prudent suggestion based on the totality of the situation. Probably, I do disagree a little bit with theymos on the point about whether their nature of conduct rises to the level of legitimate use of red trust because the conduct does seem to be a kind of excessive coercive and blackmailing attempt to try to get members to remove Lauda from their trust list. Of course, they go the further step of suggesting that members should distrust Lauda, which seems ludicrous in circumstances that members have already decided to "trust" Lauda... but if they are able achieve their intermediate goal of getting members to remove Lauda, then that would assist them to make progress to achieve their objectives.. at least, that is what they hope. Personally, I don't appreciate coercive and blackmailing methods applied to me, but at this time, I think that their negative behavior reflects more on their roboticism and bordering distrustful behavior than upon me or my conduct.

Hopefully, if we live in a world that allows disparate ideas, then there will always be voices of dissent. So, the mere fact that there are some dissenters who are attempting to be vocal and effective with their actions does not necessarily lead to the conclusion that they are correct, when they likely represent a very small percentage of the forum's population.

Pretty much no one cares about this except them, and I'd be willing to wager that all of those accounts are controlled by only a handful of actual people. I smell extreme stinky sockpuppeteering in the breeze. Oh, wait. There must be hundreds of other members who care deeply about the anti-DT agenda but who are too afraid of speaking up, lest they get tagged for voicing their contrarian opinions. The community is deciding on who gets into DT; everyone on that list plus a few others don't like "the community". This has turned into an insane power-grab attempt by a bunch of extremely loud trolls, saying the same thing over and over. If you don't like it, go with the even more centralized option of whining to Theymos to fix it.

I would suggest that you look at the trust ratings of some of these people, including when the ratings were left, and revisit if you believe that dissent is “allowed” (effectively and without having your ability to conduct business essentially removed).

Victim of what ?
You put Lauda in your trust list ? Where were you when Lauda abused the feedback system? Even now theymos said clearly its not allowed to give negative feedback for this distrust list. No DT member has removed their negative feedback. Where is your voice here ?
Ah it doesnt effect you so you give a piss. So why should we care about your problem if you put Lauda in your trust list ?
And if you still haven't realised it ,theymos is supporting this movement in hope DT system gets more decentralised and not being hold in a few hands who stick together.
