What a warrior Gregory Rodrigues is. The way he survived from that huge knee alone and was able to unleash his own attacks was very impressive. I'm pretty sure that doctor would stop the fight if Rodrigues was not able to finish Chidi early in the second round as the cut will easily re-open even during clinches.

Rodrigues will now have to be extra careful with his forehead in his next fights because there is a high tendency that old wounds that were stitched will re-open even from lighter strikes.

MMA legend Jose Aldo has announced his retirement from the sport after being granted a release from his UFC contract and as the birth of his son. He was a name with many fans and a legendary master of mixed martial arts. His contract is over and his child was born, I think he left with the right decision. I hope everything turns out the way he wants, I have the utmost respect for him.

The 36-year-old is one of the greatest champions in UFC and WEC history, and is a virtual lock to earn his place in the hall of fame. His UFC release likely sets him up to try his hand at boxing, something he has shown an interest in for many years. It would be nice to see him in boxing.

And that kind of gruesome cut is likely very alarming and Gregory Rodrigues would need to lie low for about a couple of months so the injury would likely heal properly, but that was one hell of a fight and Gregory Rodrigues deserves that win, he has shown heart and determination to win that match, and that is one fight that I want to watch again,

Tanner Boser has lost again and right now to Rodrigo Nascimento, and for this, I think Boser needs to plan his retirement because he just got some bad records and a lot of losses on it, it was a slow pace fight, and likely he can surely become a gatekeeper on the top 15 for the Heavyweight division but aside from that he should already target the money fights,

Yup! it was a great decision for Jose Aldo and he will be remembered as a legend in the MMA world and his career in the UFC, for me he is one of the great boxers and strikers who has ever fought in the UFC, and his last fight was full of respect from Merab Dvalishvili we can see that Aldo is not really the same anymore, he is likely caught by takedowns that probably he got decent defense with but yeah his age has caught up to him and having a kid surely he must have thought about the future of his family and his newborn kid with a legendary father that is Jose Aldo, Goodluck in whatever you would do,

^  Yeah and during the match you could see a little swelling around the cut.  All in all a decent event once again even if it didn't have a lot of the more top tier fighters in terms of popularity.
Event was brutal with fighters we had and I never in my life saw so deep inside meat and blood vessels in fighters head.
This is just reminder how dangerous with combat sport is, it could end up with tragic endings in some cases.
I remember when Mike Tyson bit Holyfield ear and this was bad, but this is nothing compared to MMA injuries.

One thing is for sure, I really like the long cards. The pacing on them is exceptional, and they start early which is also quite nice for us Europeans. As long as you don't start drinking early that is. Good event, not the blow your socks off type of event, but a entertaining one no less.

We've got some good events coming up this week, so I'm hoping to bag my self an accumulator. I'll try to get my predictions out a little earlier this time, and just hope no one misses weight or any fights get cancelled, since I'll probably be betting a few days before to add some of the football to the accumulator.

I don't want to upset you, but next even will be only October 1, that is in two weeks only Cheesy You can plan something different for this weekends evening.

I am not excited much about UFC next event. Looks more like a time to rest for me until something huge (and it is coming). Same as the event after that. Again main event are women fighting... *sigh*.

Despite some heavy weight guys, I see no interesting fight to watch.

It was pretty much brutal but that is why the UFC referee has ensured to stop the fight if the doctor won't allow the cut to worsen even Further I think this is to ensure the life of a fighter because they are pretty much for the MMA life is more informant for them, while on boxing which is I would say have many deaths than with the MMA, and pretty much cuts like these are pretty much common, but with the deep worse cut is pretty much rare to see for an event,

We will be having a lot of events and right now it is starting, the Contender Series 2022 Week 9, on Sept. 27, another Contender Series 2022 this time Week 10, and after the 2 contender series, on Oct. 1, that is the time we can get UFC Fight Night Dern vs. Yan, on Oct. 15, UFC Fight Night Grasso vs. Araujo, Oct. 22, UFC 280 Oliveira vs. Makhachev, which is the event that I am waiting but for now, these events are likely we are going to see this year,

I will surely be going to give my early predictions and pick aswell but for now, waiting for the Contender Series to start,

No wonder there are such huge cuts only in MMA. It is impossible to make such a cut with boxing glove. Such cuts can occur in boxing after head clash or if a bloody bruise explodes. But boxing, imho, is much more traumatic, mainly because there is no pause (like clinch, ground game) from receiving punches. Last UFC was kinda bloody. If not mistaken, Gregory Rodrigues was not the only one to get a huge cut. Song Yadong also got a juicy elbow cut.

But that is nothing to Overeems smile Cheesy

Some good cuts can be found on Reddit (just scroll down, and in case link is broken, just google fighters name)

Song's cut is a killer. he manages to still fight in the 4th round. Cory should have won this fight. what made the decision win for Song is surprising. if there is 5th, it will be Cory's. i'm not the judge but it would make me feel good to see Song win. but if i am a judge i'll give him the 5th. i feel the pain when i saw the gruesome image. an elbow did that? feels like seeing Overeem's lip again.

Huh?  But Sandhagen did win the match.

Another filler event but this one is kinda worse.  I can't say that I'm looking forward to this one and at first glance I'm seeing just one match that could be good enough to be FOTN.  And that's Barcelos vs Jones.  But dunno...  Barcelos is a good fighter but he hasn't been looking that good as of late.

But it is what it is.  Just like most events that we thought would suck, there's always at least a couple of bouts that would surprise us.

It's extremely frustrating when you check your bet slips, and it literally was just two of the favourites which messed up both accumulators. I'd be a few k better off if it wasn't for them. My fault for falling for the hype.

Bloody typical. I got so used to consecutive weeks that I just assumed. Alright, well at least we'll have the football back this weekend...right? Tongue. That's alright, I guess we did have the longest card in UFC history? There was a lot of fights on the last card so I guess that's at least something before we have a week off.

I guess I'll be seeing you lot in two weeks then. I'll be away after that too, so unlikely to get predictions up, depends on what my internet is like when travelling.

Yup! cuts in boxing were all due to headbutts, but likely boxing fighters will focus more on the head, which may cause head injuries, and concussions to boxers, but with cuts like that, I think it has just less risk with the MMA fights while on boxing boxer could have a trauma with his brain or it can cause brained damage,

That cut was pretty much because of Elbows and Song Yadong has taken it like a man, for me if the fight is not stopped by the doctors there might be a chance that Song Yadong can win this match,

That MMA cut for me is not really life-threatening it is still gruesome, but as you can see Overeem is still smirking although he got a bad lip cut injury, and the thing that surely can cause that head Concoction, was on the boxing part because they focus on hitting the head,

Most of this terrible cuts are done by elbows or knees and that is not allowed in boxing, there are gloves in MMA but I think they could be improved a lot to avoid or reduce eye pocking.
When I say cuts I always remember Diaz brothers that are always bleeding a lot, and once you get cut it's easier to open old wounds again much easier.
I think I never saw Adesanya seriously getting cut, maybe because he has such a great defensive play for avoiding punches.

I also expect more cuts in MMA because fighters are allowed to use elbows and they can also kick. The worst cuts I saw in boxing so far were from Badou Jack, Travieso Arce, Vitali Klitschko, and Denis Lebedev.

I remember when UFC goes mainstream and Don King a former top boxing promoter tried to stop it calling MMA a barbarian and very brutal sport. It's been decades now and I cannot remember any deaths from the UFC. While boxing sadly has regular casualties over time. Boxing also has 12 3-minute rounds for a total of 36 minutes compared to UFC's 25 minutes. And boxing's only chance to stop its opponents is by knockouts or technical knockouts where most of the punches are towards the heads. Whereas there are many creative ways in the UFC to stop an opponent.

This will surely happen a lot but maybe if there are knee or elbow pads those cuts will surely be prevented, but it will surely lessen the impact of that knee and elbow, and it could be implemented if the UFC wants to, but Boxing is different because they only allow punching with gloves and they surely don't allow hammering punch just like in the UFC, and that eye pokes can not be reduced if they switch the gloves with a more close one, the Grappling or wrestling will tremendously limited,

Now the Diaz Brothers are more tolerable to pain that is why they can withstand those blows that hurt the most, and even though there are gushing blood they would simply ignore it, While Israel Adesanya sure has a great defense, I think he incorporates Floyd Mayweather's technique, on his defense that is why it is so good, and right now he has the best fight IQ in my opinion so in the fight between him and Pereira I will still bet for him,

I have remembered a podcast if I am not mistaken where Michael Bisping defended the MMA by saying that it is more barbaric and brutal than boxing I think it is Simon Jordan that said that MMA fights are Brutal and he doesn't want to watch things where an opponent comes down the canvas and the other will simply still makes another punch until the referee stops the fight, Michael Bisping really put Simon Jordan in his place, here is the LINK

MMA is more barbaric and brutal? It is more entertaining and exciting to watch. If we compare the damage boxers get and the damage MMA fighters get, then I would say boxing is far more dangerous. In MMA we have 1001 way to finish the fight, to stop your opponent. In boxing, every head punch is dangerous and can end persons life. Cut can heal, bruises will be gone after some time, broken bones can be fixed, but damage to the brain can not be cured. Also, I have never seen stories when an MMA fighter died in the ring or on same or next day after the fight. In boxing, we have such examples, and they are more than "can be counted by fingers on one hand".

^  Whatever anybody says MMA is as close as it gets to real fighting.  Western boxing is just a part of MMA's whole.  It's a skill set that every MMA fighter needs to learn but it's not the end all and be all of the sport.  I used to watch a lot of boxing but once you get into MMA, esp the UFC and know the all fighters from top to bottom, it's just better, more well organized and it's an easy sport to follow overall.  And as far as the betting market goes, MMA is waaay better.

Every fight is dangerous, and to be honest before I actually got into MMA, I was one of those people saying that it was to barbaric like, and I didn't want to watch people get absolutely smashed to pieces. However, luckily I became a little more enlightened than that, and discovered it's actually a very disciplined sport. However, comparing the damage done compared to other sports is trivial.

At the end of the day every contact sport is dangerous, with boxing you have the compounding damage that can be done due to bigger gloves, and therefore you don't see flash knockouts nearly as often as MMA. However, MMA you can definitely get a lot more gruesome injuries due to the smaller gloves.

Ultimately, as I touched upon every single contact sport has its dangers. For example, there's currently investigations going on in rugby, and how they handle concussions. There's suggestions in football that headers shouldn't be allowed due to the brain being damaged. There's a ton of examples of this across loads of different sports. MMA isn't any different.

Agreed, and if Simon Jordan would only learn the technicality of MMA he would surely notice it, and I think Michael Bisping has utterly humiliated Jordan in a right way where he doesn't debate it furthermore because he doesn't have much knowledge with the MMA, but we can not blame him because MMA is close to a real fight, what we call a street fight, but in MMA it is more technical and like Bisping have said it has all the aspect of different sports in one, that is why it is so exciting to watch Than good old boxing,

I agreed aswell, MMA is outstanding having many varieties of sports in one, well includes boxing in it, and you can surely use every martial arts possible even the Jeet Kune do style imagine brutal kicks from the legendary Bruce Lee there are a lot of variety of martial art you can apply and the way you can finish your opponent is surely a lot aswell, and I surely agree that it is way better,

You can be a great MMA fighter without top boxing skills, Khabib did great for years before he improved a lot in that area.
MMA can be better because it combines other combat sports, but some people don't like wrestling or grappling and find it boring.
Spoiled crowd only likes to see blood and KO's but you can't have that all the time.

Guys, check out Israel Adesanya's great trailer for fight against Alex Pereira at UFC 281.
I can't wait to watch this fight, this has potential to be one of the best comeback stories and best fights of the year 2022.

Adesanya-Alex Pereira is a kind of match to watch. It's going to be a wild fight for thier skills. Who will win is very unsure because of thier records. Pereira climbed fast his rank on UFC only to chase Izzy's belt. He only has a few fights in UFC but he has already been given the opportunity for the belt. He really is that good that need not fight fighters below Adesanya.
